I have a 1990 Yardman 1842. Previous owner had removed the flat idler drive pulley. I got a new one and put it on but I have zero tension. I am not certain what to do as I didn't remove it. This mower is nothing like mine. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

How did you get the belt into the bottom pulley with the teeth that keep the band from slipping out. You can't remove the top pulley in order to do it and i can't seem to figure out how you got the belt squeeze through

I got the same tractor. My tractor won't go up slopes. The engine runs fine. It moves on flat level ground but loses momentum when I come to a slope. The belts and pulleys are all moving when I look underneath. It will move up a slope if I get off let it move on its own. Any ideas?

I can't get my front pulley to stay still while I loosen the nut

Use something to hold the pulley with to loosen the knot

Front pulley? The one on the engine shaft? If yes, it could be your shaft 'key' is missing. It's there to keep the pulley and shaft turning together, not separately.
