18:38 For Duane. Essentially you need a center smush. Depending on where the shims put the gear (deeper in or out into the cavity), you'll get a smush that's either outside or inside the ring gear's teeth. Your aim is to get it smack down the center (and depending on the left to right shim action on the diff or non diff package, you either get a narrow contact or a wide contact smush). The smush in the image is "chef's kiss", if just a touch too high on the gear, but very likely exactly where it needs to be (you can only shim it depending on what shims you have, nutty flavored people spend weeks cutting their custom shims for both of the "settings" to to get that contact smush exactly right, which is ... not really worth the effort). Those gears touching exactly right.

    Tip
When editing anything make a copy first and put it in a safe place on a separate drive then periodically stop and make another copy of your progress in a different place.
Never delete the original or final or intermediate works until you have verified that you will never need them ever again. Note , this is usually a week after you have uploaded the final work and no one has pointed out any errors.
On a separate note , don’t use extremely long names for files or folders keep it simple. A date in the name can help also.
All this is on top of any automated backup system.
    And finally
    BEWARE the drag and drop
Files that go missing are often accidentally moved to another location without you realising because you accidentally dragged them there while looking for something else.

Being precise on diff shims is only really necessary on an everyday driver so that the diff isn’t noisy or self destructs due to chatter or lack of free play.
On a drag car as long as there is enough clearance so the bearings don’t bind and the pinion isn’t chattering or way off on the contact patch just send it.
To put it in perspective a diff in a luxury car might be 100 on the anal retentive scale and an eco box at 80 to avoid warranty claims . So you only need to be at or over 60 on the scale with a drag car not the full Monty.

Love this series Jared (as with most wrench every day stuff of course). I've some confusion with a couple of the design parts though (and I apologise in advance for knowing almost nothing about drag racing). Firstly, the rear shocks - you say that you needed much more travel on the rear end, but doesn't that just mean that more energy will be used by compressing or extending the suspension rather than driving the car forward? Also, you've talked about the fuel tank system being complex etc, but surely any long range tanks are a bit pointless as the car will have no rear diff - surely you wouldn't want to be driving it like that for any distance? Or do you have a tyre sponsor? 😀
