    Aw this is nice! Such a useful piece and, as is the norm around here, elegantly simple. I really like how you took some extra time for explaining some of the design subtleties and watch-outs, and the new info pop up balloons are a fun touch. Thanks for keeping it real - woodworking projects don’t always go 100% smoothly and I have to take brief breaks to blow off a little steam on most every project 🤪. But it turned out great! Looking forward to seeing it in place.

      Thank you so much! It’s funny to watch myself throw tantrums on camera and realize how silly all of this is sometimes. Keeps things in perspective and gives me a chance to laugh at myself and remember next time-chill out. This isn’t that big of a deal 🤣
      So glad you enjoyed the video and the extra little tidbits (and hopefully the pet appearances haha). I appreciate you watching and hope you have an amazing weekend!

    Another awesome build! I just finished building the modern bookcase with the drawer. It’s good to see that I’m not the only one who has a meltdown during a project.🤣🤣🤣

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Месяц назад +3

      I have far more meltdowns than I’d prefer to have 🤣 but it upsets the dog, so I try to keep it together most of the time for her 🙈
      In all honesty, watching it back always makes me laugh because I realize how petty and silly these things are. Like chill-it’s not that big of a deal 🤣 anyway…here’s to fewer meltdowns on our future builds 🤪

    Very nice pantry cabinet! I really like the shelves you added on the inside of the doors. That’s a really nice way to use more of the space. Glad that Bub approved and Lou was willing to help you while it was raining! lol… They’re both precious! Have a great weekend Shara and keep on building!

      Thank you so much! I will be showing the pantry build out in stages. It’s a weird layout so we’ve got to move a doorway, which requires moving a light switch. I’m hoping to attempt making it an arched doorway…we will see 😅 Then I’ll be sharing a few different parts and pieces I plan to add into it and a full reveal eventually (it’s going to be a process ha).

    🤣 I just made this almost exact design as a built-in three weeks ago! I used 4/4 poplar that I planed down to 7/8" for the shelves because of my 'over engineering ocd', but otherwise just like it.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Месяц назад

      Haha well the audio was off-that made it less intense 🤣 but, no, you’re definitely not the only one! Mine seem to always happen when there’s glue involved. It’s on my hands, it’s on the clamps, it’s on the floor and the workbench and everywhere I don’t want it to be. And there’s a limited time to get things where you need them before it’s too late. 🙈 I can’t handle it 🤣

    This is awesome! Question - would it have been better to use a 1x1 (something solid) to mount the drawer slides so you have a lot more meat to handle the weight of the drawers, especially once they're filled? 🤔
    I plan to build 4 of these across the back wall of a room since my house has no storage. Seeing it come together is a huge help!!

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Месяц назад

      Thank you! You could do it that way, too. But these braces can easily hold the weight capacity of the drawer slide. At the end of the day, the slides are rated for 100 lbs. so the bracing only has to be able to hold 100 lbs (and that’s distributed weight). So I’m not concerned. BUT, if you wanted to use thicker pieces, you can. Happy building!

      I was trying to differentiate it from the pantry cabinet I built a few months ago since it’s similar but different 🙈 “Larder” cabinets kept coming up in my searches, so I went with it haha. Apparently back in the day, they’d cover their meat with lard and store it in cabinets similar to this to help preserve it, I guess 🤷‍♀️ so that’s where “larder” cabinet came in. Anyway-it’s a pantry 😂

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  22 дня назад

      Hi! Thanks so much! To make those, it would be the same as a slab door except instead of iron on edge banding, you’d just use some thin wood strips about 7/8”-1” wide to trim the outside edges. The thing about those is that makes your door 7/8”-1” (whatever your trim is) thick so you’d have to make sure you get hinges that will work with that thickness door.

    How much did you spend on the materials for the pantry? I’m thinking of making one similar but for a coffee bar!

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Месяц назад +1

      Hi! I didn’t add it all up for this specific build (I buy my materials in bulk and just use what I need as I need it for projects). However, lumber prices vary greatly by location and change daily so whatever it cost me likely won’t match what it would cost someone else across the country. So I’ve included the materials list in the video description so that you can check local prices for these things and get an accurate estimate for you to build it in your area. 😊

    Question. You built long panel doors. Do you ever have a problem with the doors warping? If so, what did you do to prevent warping. I’m building a tall cabinet similar to yours with long paneled doors.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  12 дней назад +1

      Hi! I do my absolute best to check they’re not warped while in the clamps. If glued up flat, it’ll likely stay flat but if it’s glued up warped, it’ll likely stay warped. I also check that my boards I’m using to make the door aren’t warped beforehand. Warped material makes warped doors. Inevitably, warps can happen, but these are two huge factors to pay attention to to prevent them. This post goes into more detail on preventing and fixing warped doors: www.woodshopdiaries.com/how-to-fix-a-warped-cabinet-door/

    You seem to be lately building out at least sum of the cabinets in your kitchen. will you be showing the final remodel when you're done?

      Hi! I’m building a few cabinets for my walk in pantry. I’ll be sharing several of these cabinets in future videos and the full remodel eventually. It will be a long process to complete it.

    Thanks for keeping it real and including the screaming and "tantrum". It can be very demotivating watching RUclips, where everything goes smooth time after time, and you're left wondering why nothing works when you give it go.

      @@WoodshopDiaries interesting! Just not needed? I suppose my concern is with an spillage soaking into the plywood.

      I applied a coat to this cabinet specifically (mostly because I wanted the wood grain a little darker but didn’t want to stain). But I didn’t seal my old kitchen cabinets or laundry room cabinets or shop cabinets. I just never felt the need and I’ve never regretted it so I just don’t usually.

    I hate the doors too cuz no matter how many times I measure them they always seem to have 1-2mm off, grrrrrrr XD thank goodness the hinges allow to adjust that

    2:24 Lesgo, the weekly Bub footage! ❤
    5:44 Okay, now we've gotten a Bub overload, especially since it's Lucy's turn.
    6:48 See what I mean? 😂😂😂
    8:43 Sometimes, that helps.❤
    9:00 There she is!
    11:53 Okay, math... oh look, Bub is modelling.
    14:01 I retract my previous statement about a "Bub overload" since that is proven false here. Thats impossible.
    15:18 Oh, thats clever! Awesome idea that'll come in handy for many projects to come.
    What an awesome project for storage! It looks so clean and easily replicated for tons of additional room. Much easier than ripping into walls. Thanks for an awesome episode, Shara!

      Haha Bubs likes to be in the way and Lou usually stays just out of the way. So Bubs naturally gets more camera time 🤣 Lucy, in all honesty, is a much better helper 😆
      I’m so glad you enjoyed the build and the video! I really appreciate you following along and watching my crazy projects. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend 😎
