How to Build a Simple Pantry Cabinet with Pull Out Shelves

  • Hey friends, let's build a simple basic pantry cabinet! This works as a stand alone storage cabinet OR can be integrated with existing cabinets.
    The great thing about this basic build is that it's easy to customize. I built this one for my parent's garage and the ceilings were pretty tall. So I made this one a full 8'.
    Standard pantry cabinet height is generally around 84" tall, though, so that's what I made the printable plans for. Plans include tips for modifications.
    Grab the printable building plans here: woodshop-diaries.myshopify.co...
    Grab more project details here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/how-t...
    This cabinet will be installed in the next video. It should be secured to the wall studs as noted in the plans linked above to prevent tip over.
    By the way...I promise what I hear in the video editor sounds nothing like what actually uploads to RUclips. I'm doing my best, but sometimes the background noises aren't audible in the editor and they are after I upload here. So bear with me.

    Okay, got my Saturday morning Woodshop Diaries fix. All is right with the world again 😊. Love this back-to-basics classic Shara build! One thing I'll point out to us who are watching (and you probably know it already)... Shara downplays her attention to dimension details; things like the precise sliding of the pull-out shelves and the fit and finish of the doors do not happen without some careful work on her part. Well done. Looking forward to seeing the whole picture! And thanks for being a donor. One more thing... 9:07 you know he did that on purpose, right?😂

I can’t wait to share the whole garage update in the next video-Bubs makes his appearance in that one too 🤣 I’ve come to the conclusion Bubs is far smarter than we give him credit for. Someone over on Instagram asked for a price comparison for how this compares to a prebuilt one and a similar but smaller cabinet was $1800 (plus shipping!) and the lumber for this was about $300. So a huge savings plus it’s bigger plus it’s custom. It’s a great project to DIY. Happy building and thank you so much for watching. Have a great rest of your weekend!

      The flip up top was awesome. I think if I had just made the cabinet a little shorter, it would have worked fine. I’ll definitely have to save the hardware to try it again in another build!

    Shara, I've been eyeing a spot in my shop to capture and store some of my clutter. I think this cabinet would be perfect. I'll probably be buying your plans as soon as I get a couple of other things done around here. Weather here is constantly changing so the only way I've found to deal with that is to have multiple projects going, some indoors and some out. Wishing you a wonderful weekend. Give Bubbs and Lucy hugs from us. They crack me up! Thanks for Sharing! 🙂🙃

      Weather here is crazy too--I keep thinking this too shall pass, but I'm not looking forward to that summer heat settling in for the next few months haha. Happy building!

    That a nice pantry cabinet, and a really nice garage cabinet. Parents are lucky. For the top cabinet are, I think the lift up may have still worked because that area is still pretty. Not sure how tall you are, but to get into that area may still require a step stool. It’s pretty tall. Took the doors off to make painting them easier. Yep, anything to make painting easier, huh. That’s a great build.

    Background "noises" are just normal shop sounds. They put us in the shop with you. I love how Bubby just had to supervise this project, making sure you did everything correctly. Now... what is with the red bandage? Thanks for another great shop project.

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Месяц назад +3

      I try to keep in some of the noises-I think they’re fun! But for some reason, lately, my editor makes some of my audio sound like it’s barely there. Then I upload to YT and it’s so much louder than it sounded in edits. I couldn’t hear my shop radio playing in the editor but I definitely can once it was uploaded 🙈 maybe it’s just my ears ha!
      Anyway, Bubs always has to be involved. He’s great company but kind of a micro manager 😆 The bandage was from giving blood. I gave right before I filmed the finished shots so I still had my bandage on

      Hi! Yes, it should be secured to the wall. We show that in the next video when it gets installed in my parents garage. This is detailed and noted in the plans and tutorial here: www.woodshopdiaries.com/how-to-build-a-basic-pantry-cabinet/
      The back supports are installed specifically for the purpose of securing it to the wall.

    Great Video and I enjoyed watching your methods. Question: Do you believe the pocket holes, screws, and glue will provide enough load support over the term side mount draw slides? I'm building a beverage bar with pull out drawers and my initial thought was that "Heavy Duty" drawer slides where needed however after a little math applied to the weight of wine bottles figured out that 100 LBS is a lot and more than enough capcitty. Just thinking about load transfer. Thanks.

    Do you always assume that the plywood is straight? Have you ever had any complications with the squaring? It seems like everything you do is so perfect.
    Waiting on Summer break to start coping you! 20 days to go!

    • @WoodshopDiaries
      @WoodshopDiaries  Месяц назад +2

      It’ll be here before you know it! I check my sheets before bringing them home and avoid buying anything that looks beat up, twisted or bowed. I’ll be honest, I’ve never had issue with the hardwood plywood I’ve bought not being square-at least not enough to make any difference. Now…I’ve had issues with some crappy exterior grade plywood. But…it’s crappy plywood so it’s to be expected.
      At the end of the day, nothing is perfect and even if you get home with a plywood sheet that’s a little bowed or warped, 99.9% of the time, it won’t matter by the time you cut it down and assemble the project. This piece will pull that piece flat, once you trim it down, the bow gets less each cut. Your material doesn’t have to be perfect.
