the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. Many of us slowly collect the higher priced equipment for more options but this can be done with more basic tool by purchasing cabinet boards and some cheap hand tools. Most woodworkers started with less. We start with a drill and skill saw usually and work our way up (either saving long term or selling projects to make money for tools) garages sales and fb marketplace are also options for cheaper tools. Don’t feel discouraged when you see people with nice equipment because as nice as it is, its not required (just makes things faster and easier) but the learning happens from all the struggles
LOVE what you said at the end! I raised my three kids telling them that... Do what you can with what you know and it's wonderful to make "mistakes". Miss take. Missed that take on it. Missed the try. Didn't match what you were going for. It's so fun to re-try and learn. It's one thing to learn from a book or video and another thing altogether to learn while doing it. Invaluable. Thank you!
Just a suggestion, for the inside of the door where you see all of the pocket holes, you can buy maple plugs to glue into those holes to hide them, it makes the project look that much better and more finished
The more I watch your videos the more I start to see your actually a really cool guy...your moral compass & attitude to life is admirable, your definitely one of the few youtubers that viewers can relate to, family guys always win. Good job bro
love how you don't get frustrated at anything. I would of quit once the wire had no slack or when i built a bunch of drawers 1/4 inch off. Good attitude
Now this is what I wish I had in my apartment pantry it's narrow, deep and dark need light having to reach in to find what I'm looking for pull out drawers would definitely work.I like what you did.
when I started following your channel, you only had a few hundred followers, now a few well-deserved hundreds of thousands... i always found your videos fun and full of humor ... you are an extraordinary communicator ... CONGRATULATIONS ... accept a hug from Lisbon, Portugal, EU
One of my biggest wishes right now is simply to have a garage to work in. Right now all my projects are being done on the side of a house in the sun. Any tool I need needs to be carried out and back to store. A dedicated build space is the dream.
I have a recessed area in my kitchen that is currently being used for the water heater. Getting a tankless and sending that puppy outside to open this space up for built in cabinets. Unfortunately it’s up against the exterior wall next to a protruding door frame, so I can’t slide anything in, but you gave me a few ideas I definitely want to use now. Thank you for this great video and what a beautiful family! God bless.
You did an amazing job, as a woman I learned alot. I need a door for my hall cabinet. You showed me how to make drawers to allow to pull out and a beautiful door I would like to do for my pantry cabinet, thank you. Great skills I enjoy doing wood work, it's so gratifying and fun. I told my boyfriend I want to build him a entertainment unit. He said I was a different type of lady🙂
Love the build. Love the energy! I find it interesting how many "suggestions" there are on these comments for what you could do better or differently. You are clearly crushing it with a beautiful family and home and life focus!! Keep up the good work!
I love this type of content, not that I will be doing it. At 78 years I sometimes want to improve the way my kitchen area or closets in general work. I have a good joiner, if I can show him , he can do it.
Amazing work with this! 👏🏻 My kitchen is SO small so I need to rework my pantry situation. Seriously love your videos! Thanks for the motivation to work on this!
Electrician here. Regulations will depend on where you're located. You have good advice concerning box depth and not leaving hidden junctions. Where I am you can't have plugs in furniture behind doors. Except: 1) the plug turns off when the door, or drawer, is closed. 2) the plug connects to a dedicated alliance. (Could argue that the coffee machine is dedicated, but a better example is a microwave that occupies the entire space) also leave 6"-12" of wire as extra, I the outside, at every junction. Very good woodworking ideas, good presentation, and content. Subbing 👍
I love the renovation and wish I had the guts and money to do similar with our pantry well actually our pantry is about same size I would like to rip it out and make an addition onto the back of the house making it a real walk in pantry losing 2 windows we don’t use any way but I’ve actually been sick and unable to finish couple other projects I started so until I can make some real money and am well enough to finish these other projects I can still dream even though you lost some space you made the usable space functional and you waste less food for sure in our old house we had a pantry cabinet with slide out and most of our cabinets had slide out drawers which I miss very much ❤😂I love how you make it look so easy thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks
Couple of questions. 1. Think about putting a piece of white pine trim along that top behind the door to close up that gap above the shelving unit? 2. I know it is on the inside of the door, but thoughts on trimming out the backside of the door just to cover the pocket holes and add just a bit more rigidity to the door? Overall, that is a great build. Our panty is about the same, but a bit wider and it is such a pain to see things because it is so deep and dark. I may be doing something like this in ours. Great video. Keep up the great work.
Nice job. Things I would have done differently: make the 2nd shelf a pullout drawer (I'm tall), give more space above the first 2 pullouts below the coffee shelf for taller items, like oil bottles, etc., put a solid door on - no slats.
I appreciate your videos so much man. The energy and excitement you show really inspires me to be a more productive and creative DIYer at home, cuz I gotta be honest, the constant clutter and dust around the house between the projects, not to mention the technical setbacks...they can really make a person frustrated and sorta depressed, really. But watching your channels is encouraging and it always makes me think 'how bad could it really be?' if we put in the work and do the research, plan ahead and reach out to ppl in the community, I find that we'd always end up with a project we can be proud of.
Just a thought I’m pretty sure when adding electrical you need to get it inspected by a electrician before closed off the wall or in the event a fire happen your insurance won’t cover
Oh please! Adding an electrical box is not rocket science. Yes if your an idiot, and can't look at RUclips to see how it is done, don't add the box or hire an electrician. I am guessing their are many sub-contractor that don't get a permit for some of those small jobs that require electrical work.
The drop cloth to move stuff is exactly what I do as a single Mom when I move things around (curio cabinet, hutch etc). 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I hadn't a dolly but some things need to be moved sideways to fit through narrow passages and my dolly wouldn't work.
This is a nice little project. For the edging I tend to use a chisel to trim the excess moving it like a file into the edging, then file the corner to achieve a nice rounded corner
Nice job Max! I did a similar thing but didn't want to loose shelf space so I just used the existing shelving and freed them up putting them on rollers with a minimal barrier across the back to keep things from falling off when pulled out. I get the idea with the cut out top shelves but I didn't want to loose that real state so I just added lighting to see seeings clearly. Mine was already bigger with better access than your old pantry. Wish there was a way to share a photo here. Is there? I wonder if splitting your door in half so the drawers are behind one door and then french doors for the top half would be a better option?
Nice job! Love the door idea. I know exactly what you mean where you say you’re not afraid. Only I get skard…. But I also know I got skills. Just enough to get me in trouble 😂
Thank you for your videos. The gave me the confidence en creativity to do some projects in my own house. I placed a new radiator en shelves in my kitchen en overhauled my garage. Thinking about doing my bathroom next year. Thanks and have a nice day 😊
Just FYI for those doing electrical on their own homes. There is almost never enough slack in the cable if done by an electrician. Just enough from point A to point B and to fasten to the stud. So the best way to do it is to find the nearest receptacle/outlet, ensure the full circuit (# of other items on the same breaker) typically not to exceed exceed 80% of breaker capacity. Which the breaker is typically 15 amps in most homes for receptacle runs. Anyways, if you are good on that, then you just run the cable (which is usually 12 or 14 gauge wire depending on breaker size) accordingly and your good. Also, be weary, from my understanding insurance may not cover electrical fires if not done by a licensed professional and ends up being wired incorrectly which I have seen, and heard about, homeowners doing. Also, there are a numerous rules and regulations involved in wiring these days. I enjoy the channel and look forward to watching more of your stuff.
-Not and electrician here but lots of experience with those push in connectors: super small contact area + heat from those wires over time will create a no-contact/faulty plug. Pain in the butt wirenuts will increase contact surface and not generally fail. Just FYI!
Excellent! This the shape of my pantry. I’m so frustrated seeing “small pantry videos” and they can still fit their body and stand inside it! THIS my friends is a small annoying pantry
mistakes help you perfect the craft you rock sir !!!!!!! your project looks AMAZING !!!!!! and has inspired me to do work at a higher level thanks for the vid
You slay man and definitely motivate and inspire me to continue on this hobby/craft. Definitely frustrating at times but then I watch some of your vids and get right back at it! Thnx brother! 🙌🏽🙏🏽
I need these drawers in my bathroom cabinet! Our cabinet and countertop had to be custom made when our house was built (1950’s) so the door could open.
I think one additional item you could add would be to insert a magnet at the top of the door to assist in keeping it closed since there does not appear to be a latch or catch on the frame. Other than that, great video.
Not only do you make mistakes you also learn how to correct them. I've fixed up several homes we've had will all kinds of project. My first house was 100% a fixer upper and stuck in the 70's. Not a room I didn't touch in that house. Current house go floors last summer and it was not my first time to lay flooring, but I even learned a few things and also some things I'd do different. You don't know if you don't push. Used those little connectors in Telecommunications for years in cable pedestal to snap together twisted pair for land line phones and DSL. I think they were made by scotch originally and everyone just refers to them as a scotch locks. Same thing just a bigger cable. Likely a 3M product.
This is a timely project, actually. I have a hall linen closet thing (pretty old along with the house) that I want to deconstruct and put in shelves so it is a book shelf (maybe other items) with lighting. The closet itself is a side in unit like what you built so will allow for a pretty clean slate and access to the electrical for the lighting. Still deciding, in my mind, what it will look like.
I would like to see a DIY on this where the guy just has basic hand tools, so the average homeowner does not have to use his car garage for a full blown wood shop.
Man, your videos inspire me so much. I need to do this on my pantry. Love that you show when you screw up, but I am sure I will make that exact same mistake.
a few suggestions you could do is paint the cabinet white to match the aesthetic of the kitchen, and also get rid of that little gap on the top right corner besides that I think the build looked great! 👍
Anyone else never plan on building anything but still watch these 😂
Could look them up later in like 10 years tho, might need it hahaha
💯
That is exactly me 😅

Your imagination and skill are remarkable! And your philosophy!!
I don’t understand while younger 18 &up don’t want learn trades . This is awesome . A true craft
I'm from Cincinnati, OH and I'm a female who probably won't ever build anything, but I love your channel!
I love your videos, so many building videos tend to be dry and boring. You bring a human touch to yours with your family and with humor. (thumbs up!)
Alex at 6:28 what you're holding is a toner probe.

@@Mitrasmit I watched the whole video - and went back and rewatched parts of it. I never comment on videos I have not watched.

- LUV the impromptu pantry door. Thanx 4 sharing.
You could put magnets on the left side in the door and the door jamb to fix the door in the closed position neatly
You should put dowels in those pocket holes, and flush cut them so those holes aren't an eye sore when the door is open
I love the idea of the drawers. I would have added some lighting, like a small overhead light.
I suggest you add LED strip on the bottom of the rack to give it more light
YES. This is exactly like my current pantry.
Looks really good

Great little project. Don't like the exposed pocket holes, but that may be personal preference.

You should do a hidden door from a bookshelf!
I'm sure glad he taught us how to preserve that dry wall before tearing it out.

😂😂😂😂that little scream..when water drop fell on you 😂😂❤❤❤awesome video.
Your energy is awesome.
I would consider using wood plugs on the pocket holes for a cleaner look but as always nice work!
I think we need a video or part of a video dedicated to your tattoos and the meanings behind them👌
a few suggestions you could do is paint the cabinet white to match the aesthetic of the kitchen, and also get rid of that little gap on the top right corner
besides that I think the build looked great! 👍
Nice work! Your house is looking good. Keep up the great work.
Indeed loving your uniqueness mr builder. I love it 💃🏻
