A lot of your modding strategies seemed unorthodox but they worked out perfectly and by the end I could tell that you knew what you were doing. Never thought I would be saying this but, I want that rk61!
Just got Newmen GM610 and saw your video. I opened it up and realized that dimes were the only thing I could fit in the bottom, with a layer of gorilla tape. The grooves in the bottom of the case fit the width of the tape and dimes perfectly. I think I counted over 12 dollars worth of dimes in there haha. At least I know where they are! This thing turned out so great!!! The weight is absolutely amazing, and it feels like a high end board now. Thanks for the video and I'll keep you updated on how it is!
I had this Keyboard last year. It's a pretty amazing for modding even though the one I received wasn't hot swappable. One downside to it though is the ON/OFF switch at the bottom. Any case mods that raise the PCB will make the switch difficult to use. I wish it was in the side instead.
v solid video for budget/plastic boards. with ergo keebs especially it can be hard to find a nice case even if youre willing to shell out the money for one. pennies + foam + tape like shown in this video completely changed the sound signature of my iris for like no cost, would really recommend 👍
Nothing's cheap about the RK61 except the price itself! I got mine 2 weeks ago and even stock it feels SO good just by changing the caps to an original set of NIPPON WAVE. Mine even came very well pre-lubed and with basically no rattle on the spacebar - I'm impressed with the stabilizers RK uses. Awesome board overall, I'd consider it even at 80-90 USD price.
i love how just one of either keycaps or switches costs more than the entire original keyboard. lel but, man, the transformation is nothing less than magical.
The pennies is a perfect way for me to get rid of my spare pennies, since canada banned them years ago and the rusty ol’ things sit in my drawers collecting dust for years now, i might do this.
Your desk is so pretty and this keyboard is so insanely modded, I love it. Where would you go for those keyboard rubber bands? I love my new little mechanical keyboard but it'd be fun to mess with all the same. :3
The PCB doesn't sit higher on the keyboard because you used a gummy o-ring to mount it, it sits higher up because you layered pennies and a thick piece of foam in the case.
