The colors on the pc engine are so vibrant, its insane. Surprising it wasnt as popular here in the US. My first system was a Sega Genesis, but i would have taken a PC Engine all day
The main reason was mostly market timing. The TurboGrafx was delayed in America so it had to compete against Sega Genesis/Megadrive and Super Nintendo.
It was marketed like crap and came way too late. The PC Engine competed with the Famicom in Japan back in 1987. Had it been released in the west at the time, it would've competed pretty well against the NES, Master System and the Amiga even!
I bought the turbografx + cd add on when it originally came out in the US. I saw the potential. Too bad leadership didn't. Games took way too long to get released in the US, and too few of them.
spent many years of my youth playing pc engine, had a rare 5 player multitap, motoroader was so good with 5 players and dungeon explorer, this is the only console i ever owned when i sold it i got 3 times as much as what i payed for it, i have an emulator now with at least 180 pc engine games, great memories thanks for putting this on youtube!
I got a TurboGrafx 16 when it first came out. I thank my aunt and uncle for having the foresight to recognize the systems uniqueness. They also bought the Turbo Express with the TV tuner. They also had 2 Atari Lynxes. The ultimate aunt and uncle!
Really great video. I loved watching it and actually used it to add quite a few titles to my 'buy list'. Hoping for a longer version so we can see the gameplay a bit more. Some of the fragments felt a bit on the short side.
Good video. All these years certain video game magazines of that time hyped up the PC Engine as an amazing console. Lots of puzzle and shoot'em ups, and RPGs mostly. Afterburner looked great.
Well, not 'too' many RPGs here, there are way more on the CD add-on. Shame it was a pretty much non-existent system here in Europe. I really like the colours in these games, they look really nice aesthetically.
Interesting console, it reminds me of Sega Saturn - popular in Japan with many exclusive games - but completely overlooked in the west with very few games available.
I'm still convinced the creators of Cuphead were heavily influenced by one of my favorites here - Parodius Da This project was quite an undertaking...congrats!
Great video, is this missing Idol Hanafuda Club? Also would be great if you could highlight the Japanese exclusives that never made it to the US. Keep up the good work!
I got curious about the TG16/PCE after seeing some of its games in Hi Score Girl. That console was pretty much non existent in my country, so seeing your video and all the available games on it was a shock for me. I feel like getting the TG16 Mini when it's available now.
This is an excellent video on the PC Engine, but it only represents the line up released in Hu-card format, tell yourself well that many other games came out on this console with much more elaborate support like the CD-ROM, Super CD-ROM and the ARCADE CD-ROM !

Muito excelente trabalho porque os logos do Japão são os melhores do mundo principalmente os retrô se vocês separarem vídeos de todos os games japonês de todos os console ia ser fantástico
It seems that console hardware plays the 3d games animation like the Arcade hits did. Great. I did not know it but i would have loved Chase HQ, running like the arcade cabinet.
this is what i'm talking about. strip fighter is an all female fighting game. there needs to be a sequel one day, or failing that they could be in a female led spinoff from the tekken series which has females from mortal kombat, street fighter, bloody roar, kensei: sacred fist, ehrgeiz, EX layer and kof, but the originals.
Hey bro, how are you? This games were released on japan (they are not exactly exclusive, some of them were released for TGX16). You can watch this video instead ruclips.net/video/yh_CKMO9OXw/видео.html
Hey everyone I need some help please! I've been trying to find an old game from when I was a kid, it was VERY similar to Skweek, but with slightly better graphics. Maybe it was a Taito game, but I might be wrong on this one. Anyone has an idea of what game it could be?
My friends used to rave about this machine but I never saw it. I had an Amiga. I can see lots of repetition in the games (the shootem ups were all the same, but that is true of many arcarde clones of the time) but when I saw Hatris, I knew the devs had ran out of ideas :D
No, but most of them are shoot 'em ups etc., so they're playable without knowing the language. It's worse with PCE-CD, there are tons of text-heavy games there you cannot play without Japanese.
The colors on the pc engine are so vibrant, its insane. Surprising it wasnt as popular here in the US. My first system was a Sega Genesis, but i would have taken a PC Engine all day
Part of the reason is TurboGrafx had few games come from japan because NEC didn't trust it

I can see why this was popular in Japan in 88. It basically had alot of arcade ports closer than the Famicom to the real arcade.
I would love to see this but for the PC engine cd games.
its already the case Castlevania rondo of blood is a cdrom game
@@etienneamien what are you saying that doesn't makes sense
Type pc engine cd project👍he made one
Back in the day Japan always had a ton of exclusive games that never left their shores.
0:03: 1. 1943 Kai (1991)
0:13: 2. 21 Emon: Mezase! Hotel Ou (1994)

Soldier Blade and Neutopia II forever in my heart.
Great video! Excellent work.
Any chance of a similar one for the NEC PC-98?
thank you for your work!
It is crazy this console was same gen as NES.
thanks for this, pc engine is the best console ever!
The legend continues

Looks like a lot of fun! (Apart from the dialogue)
Finalmente pude achar o jogo que eu queria. Obrigado pelo ótimo vídeo.
I noticed for some games you still showed the US version, like JJ and Jeff and Cratermaze.

How come you only did the japanese games for this video?
Because this is PC Engine, they made a separate video for TurboGrafx 16 (which is the english version of the console).
Wow! PC Engine really nice machine!
Strip Fighter 2 is one HELLUVAH game
Hello, all this games exclusive japan only right? I mean don't released for tgx16

Are that different games on Hu Card, CD Rom and Super CD Rom?
Are these all hu-card games? Not cd rom

My friends used to rave about this machine but I never saw it. I had an Amiga. I can see lots of repetition in the games (the shootem ups were all the same, but that is true of many arcarde clones of the time) but when I saw Hatris, I knew the devs had ran out of ideas :D

You missed Popful mail!
2:52 이거도 좋아했었어 기억난다
do the games have an English subtitle option on thi system?
no. the turbo grafx 16 is what this console was called outside of japan. very few games got localized to english - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurboGrafx-16
No, but most of them are shoot 'em ups etc., so they're playable without knowing the language. It's worse with PCE-CD, there are tons of text-heavy games there you cannot play without Japanese.
Aside from RPGs, most Japanese games are actually in english.
*there are codes! Ninja Gaiden has the English copy hidden inside!*
FINALIZADO PARA SEMPRE!!!
@19:15 BOO! That's J.J. & Jeff, not Kato-Chan Ken-Chan
No, it is Kato-Chan Ken-Chan. This video is strictly about the PC-Engine titles (Japan). Not TurboGrafX-16 (US) ones.
@@danieldutch8621 The video is of JJ and Jeff. Chan-Chan has different character graphics.
