The Giants Just Made a HORRIBLE Mistake....

- During the 2024 NFL Draft the New York Giants made a huge mistake. Do you think they made the right move drafting wide receiver Malik Nabers over a quarterback like JJ McCarthy of Michael Penix?

Just to clarify guys. Nabers will be an ELITE WR. He’s a great player. And for the situation they were in it WASN’T a bad pick. It’s just one where I’m like ok so when are they gonna address the QB? I’m concerned the organization has no plan when it comes to the QB position…
I agree 100%
We get u at least I do
I understand where your coming from but I believe that malik nabers can boost daneil jones into his 2022 form.
@@MMRG77you need BETTER than that. It’s year 6.
Disagree
Giants are smart not to force a QB pick. Every year college QBs come out of nowhere and get first round grades
See Brady simms
Just cuz we need a QB doesnt mean u just grab anyone just cuz..thats how we ended up with DJ to begin with.. if we were a QB away,id feel more of a way about it,but we have A LOT of needs
DJ is mid. But he is underrated. I thought he was bad, but then I thought about it, and it was also the O-line, the coaching, and the fact that the most effective guy on the 3.5/10 offense was Barkley.
Ok with all due respect, I gotta wholeheartedly disagree with this take. You NEVER draft quarterback JUST for need. Mac Jones, Kenny Pickett, Daniel Jones especially...time and time again when you force a QB pick just because you need one it has been proven to always fail, and you've wasted a draft pick. You only pick a QB in the top 10 if they can become elite (top 5 like Allen, Herbert, etc), not be a future Kirk Cousins. JJ and Penix (not even including Nix cuz he should've never been in the discussion) do not have elite ceilings, and picking them really doesn't help you a lot. Finding QBs is a process, one that you can't force, but when the opportunity is there, you move mountains to seize it. The Giants tried with Maye, and failed. So rather than being Dave Gettleman, Schoen took the wise route of selecting a blue chip player; the Giants need blue chip players and especially need offensive weapons with Saquon gone and likely Waller too. And no, Jones hasn't "ruined" receivers' careers. The doctors told the Giants that Golladay might not be the same after his hip issues, yet they signed him anyway. Jones had nothing to do with that. Who will throw Malik Nabers the ball? The draft is not just for 2024, and while his QB situation is clearly not optimal, he has a whole career ahead of him; most of it won't be with Daniel Jones (who I am no believer in btw). Drafting QBs for need just continually sets you back. The argument that the 2025 QBs are bad is another one I just don't understand. While right not it may not look good, things change. Where was Burrow before 2020? Zach Wilson? Kenny Pickett? Richardson? Daniels? While some of those have been elite and others not, the point is that QBs pop up and you never know what the next class is going to look like until we get there. I don't know when the opportunity for the Giants to get that QB will be, but the process of oh who's throwing Malik Nabers the ball we have to get a QB and JJ and Penix are available is a philosophy that gets GMs fired, not one that prolongs their careers.
As for JJ, one of his biggest questions is his deep ball. He doesn't have elite arm talent, and doesn't throw with the best touch, and just doesn't have a great deep ball. Daboll runs a vertical oriented offense, so this is not going to work out. JJ is cut out for the Shanahan mold, which is why I'm happy he went to Minnesota. For Penix, while he has a canon of an arm, he doesn't have great arm talent, his accuracy is all over the place and he misses players wide open, and most of all, he rarely displays the ability to throw over and process the middle of the field (also a flaw with Daniels), something which kills QBs and often prevents them from reaching elite status, even if they have the physical traits. Plus the injury history, age, and fact that he played with the best receivers and amazing O line in his best year of college.
And you never trade back to select a QB. Reeks of depseration, and just gets the same results as when you take one for need. You have to love and have a plan for a QB, and if you're in the top 10, see an elite ceiling.
Cook
I'm sure Giants fans is not complain about it when you drafted LSU Wide Receiver Marvelous Malik Nabers with the 6th pick 1:14
At least the Giants' draft is going better than the Bills' is
Lol
This woman absolutely trashed Daniel Jones 😭😭😭
Eli Manning was trash the year before Odell got here...he almost turned the ball over 40 times in a single year, the year before.
At the time Eli was known around the league as "the turnover machine."
Eli had a career revival after Odell was drafted.
Giants' O-Line is worse than the Bengals. Daniel Jones needs protection. Whoever is under center is gonna need protection.
Nah, I don't agree with your take on Danny. I like how you didn't mention how our o-line has been basically invisible for the past ten years. JJ McCarthy and injury prone Penix would've died in NY.
Here we go DJ hate!
JJ overrated as hell. Pats wanted too much in return plus I think they were just bluffing.
100% they loved Maye all along. Anytime a team goes back and forth and changes their public perception a lot, it's a smoke screen. For example, they went from potentially going QB or WR to trading back to loving JJ to trading back. Dolphins in 2020 similar thing- Tua then Herbert then OT/Jordan Love at 18, and it was Tua all along.
Great video! I enjoyed watching!
I think they see something with Jones. He does show potential. His football IQ is pretty high. He’s a big dude, fast on his feet, with a good arm. I think he deserves one more shot. But I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Lol
They literally tried to trade up and get his replacement lol
No one thinks Jones has potential except for Mara. 🤣
Agreed
The locker room energy will be interesting to watch after last season
“Football IQ is pretty high” lmao…..
My jaw dropped when on pick6 the Giants passed on JJ McCarthy.
Me too. I love how the giants fans say jj will bust already when jj is 27-1 in college and Daniel jones was 17-19 never supposed to go in the first round. And jj hasn’t even played 1 nfl game yet. Mind blowing
Why?
Mines didn’t I’m glad we didn’t reach on JJ
@@ryanMcknight27 because at that point JJ would had been a reach at #6 and he’s coming from a program where he wasn’t that impressive compared to the first 3 QBS in the draft .
I breathed a loud sigh of relief.
I mean before Malik Nabers who's the Giants WRs. Should be excited for Nabers. Giants had so many holes! Any Qb would have struggled with the Giants OL and WRs
I’m definitely excited! But I just question when the QB position will be fixed
yeah she definaty in the minority of giants fans we couldn't trade up for drake so we settle with a stud in malik who idk how we even got him and how the chargers didn't lmao but drafting jj or penix would've truly set this franchise back years imo
@@wetdrippThey would fail in our system, we have too many holes on offense.
@@wetdripp Harbaugh likes to run the football a lot. It made sense that he chose the best tackle. And while Herbert probably would have loved another target to throw to, he can also appreciate a coach who knows the value of keeping pass rushers far away from him.
@@SheGotSportslikely next year. This team will be bad again, and Daboll will possibly be fired at the end of the 2024 season.
W/ that in mind, why draft a qb, when the team will be bad this year; a new coach will likely be in place in 2025 and will want his own guy?
Great video Lauren your my favorite RUclipser thanks for making these amazing videos 📹
Yay! Thank you!
@@SheGotSports your welcome Lauren gbu
you said it in the very beginning, they TRIED to get maye, that's the only guy the loved, you don't draft someone you don't love especially with your job on the line the next season, we'll be fine as long as the Oline isn't absolutely trash like last year, DJ is not incompetent, if nabers is who we think he will be, he will produce regardless, look at zach wilson and garret wilson
no one knows, they have tons of scouts watching quarterbacks and players like nabers. i trust them more than us regular fans.
Yeah for sure. I’m definitely not saying I know more than the pros, that would be just silly lol. But my question is why did the other teams feel so comfortable taking all these QBs so early?
@@SheGotSportsI think a lot of teams other than the top three picks, they took quarterbacks were doing it out of desperation. I think it was a great pic that got the best wide receiver and they can see what Mac Jones can do. I still have more confidence in Jones, and if not then they'll have a team ready for a new QB
@SheGotSports tminnesota had none and kirk cousins is 35.
Yeah sorry I'm not sold on McCarthy, Penix or Nix....
I don't think it was a bad pic by any stretch
Could they draft back? The Falcons had to be in love with Penix to make that decision, and the Vikings were apparently hell-bent on getting McCarthy. And if any of Penix, McCarthy or Nix was still there at 13, you have to figure the Raiders were going to choose them.
The only thing I can figure is that the Giants just didn't believe in any of the three that were left on the board after Maye went at 3. And if that is the case, then they were right to get Nabers rather than take a chance on a guy they didn't trust. Just about everyone thinks Nabers is going to be a stud.
The 2025 QB class looks bad right now. But you know someone is going to step up. Someone always does.
Even as a Jets fan, I was surprised to see the Giants not even draft JJ McCarthy.
Are you happy with the Olu? I think it was a great pick
@@SheGotSports Oh absolutely! When it comes to the trenches, the more we have, the better.
Same
Them New York giants 😅
Imagine getting JJ McCarthy and people will be upset. It’ll be like Daniel Jones 2.0.
Someone's a little salty that the Falcons now have 2 quarterbacks while the Giants have none. lmao.
Enjoy your takes on sports. Keep up the great work
Great Video Lauren!!!!
Great video!
Thanks!
I been a Giants fan since the 90’s (80’s baby), they made a huge error not grabbing a young QB. This was a QB’s Draft. It was stacked with great young talent in the Quarterback position. The jets are out of their mind putting it all in Roy Chicken leg Rogers hands. O my giants you guys fumbled the ball this draft.
The Giants in the 2022 NFL Draft should've took DK Metcalf out of Ole Miss but yet you take a stupid QB at Daniel Jones? What goddamn waste of time and a waste of a pick too 5:08
💯 with you should got Eli more weapons atleast he throw the ball down field and not check downs every single play. Eli loved the big body receivers too so I would’ve like to see him with metcalf could been another plexico Eli duo
@@ryanMcknight27I can understand that
You are wrong for three reasons.. 1. Josh Allan is a outstanding QB but has never gone to the Super Bowl.... not one time. 2. Jones can throw a slant to Nabers and he has the talent to take it to the house. Jones or Drew Lock if he steps in do not have to throw the ball deep to make Nabers productive. Most of Nabers catches are short range catches that he turns into bigger gains after the catch. So he can help any QB and can change the dynamics of any offense. 3. You do not draft a QB who you do not have a full conviction in will be a Franchise QB.. You are better off taking the Best Player available. The Giants signed Dew Lock who appears based on his play in Seattle to have progressed to a level that is equal to or maybe better than Jones. It therefore made no sense to draft in the first Round a Rookie QB who you do not have a strong conviction can progress beyond what you already have. After they could not trade up for Maye who checked all the boxes , the next best thing was to take a guy like Nabers who will improve the completion and TD percentage of any NFL QB.
Yall definitely deserve a legitimate QB for real 1:48
The plan is to get Arch Manning in 2026. Giants are filling other needs like WR, Secondary, TE, OL, etc. Trust the process
Hey Lauren!! Good to see you back . Be well
And btw the pro bowl is a popularity contest at this point and Daniel Jones is not popular hardly a way to analyze a qb
exactly dude stays to himself and gets the job done
whoa why are dogging the Duke QB for throwing over 3k then saying we wanted Justin Fields who cannot crack that.
Thoughts on wiggins? Lauren I was correct on the suprise that penjx would go 1st rd to a qb needy team! N your vid explained why. Really good vids so far too
Wiggins might be the best CB in the class!
I’m glad we didn’t reach for Penix and JJ
Since the draft is officially over, I feel now I can react this video.
For starters taking JJ with the number six pick would be ANOTHER risky situation for the Giants. It would’ve been another déjà vu scenario like how they took Jones when they drafted him in 2019. With the system he was performing at in Michigan ( a predominantly run heavy offense), The Separation of talent between Williams ,Daniels and Maye, taking him that high didn’t make any sense for the Giants.
Secondly, the situation the Giants are in is NOT good for any rookie quarterback. Over the last couple years it’s been obvious the formula you need for success is to build a proper roster BEFORE drafting A quarterback. Patrick Mahomes, &Dak Prescott are good examples of this. meanwhile, if you put a rookie quarterback in the system which is not up to par you run the rest of damaging their development such as Marcus Mariota, Justin Fields and Daniel Jones too. We would have had Daniel Jones 2.0 (2020-2021 version ) if McCarthy performed with the roster we had the previous season. The best thing is to get the best available players at all positions ,make sure all the main components of your roster is set, then get a quarterback.
My Broncos drafted QB Bo Nix.
I liked that pick for them
You are not wrong back up QBs make the pro bowl with ease there.🏈
Girl you dont know what your talking about how many times did danny get sacked last year and how many pressures no its not a needed position danny needs protection to be able to read the field to throw the ball plus time for receivers to get open so it dont matter whos behind the line throwing the ball same result
How many checks did Danny miss at the line that would have protected him better. Yes the O line is bad but he isn’t helping himself out there
As a Steelers fan I ain't got no problems with the New York Football Giants because evre since Eli Manning won the Super Bowl in 2011 just the 1st time back in 2007 in a Giant big UPSET the G-Men has not been the same in the last 13 years like yall deserve so much better then this you do 4:11
Don’t worry they can always suck next year
You are so good. Full stop...
Kirk cousins next year from ATL as a bridge, grab Arch Manning in 25 is pretty much the only hope i have right now
Damn even giants fans hating on Daniel Jones she’s wrong about how early it is to make the pro bowl but it’s fun to see as a cowhide fan
You still have time to take this down 😂😂
Maybe the Giants should start Tommy DeVito over Daniel Jones 🤷🏻♂️
Did you want Penix or JJ?
Either tbh. Penix was more tricky because I Ovi don’t know what shape his knee is in. But considering he went 8th the tests must have come back good
@@SheGotSports Penix has been completely healthy since he got out of Indiana. If you put a good O-line in front of him, he'll be fine. He's going to watch and learn in 2024, anyway.
Tyler Nubin Minnesota #1 best safety on the board and first one to be picked we lost Xavier McKinney hows that a terrible pick. Also rd 3 pick 70 Andru Phillips CB DB Kentucky, hes solid
You are absolutely right, Danny Dookie fans will defend him no matter what and blame the o line, Jones lacks basic fundamentals, he still can't read coverages or even the field to find receivers, he's absolutely trash. The 3 QB's we didn't draft, McCarthy, Penix and Nix, will have a better season than Jones. It all starts with John Mara, he's the reason for the team being so conservative and not going big to land Drake Mays, he's responsible for Jones' absurd contract and a slew of other problems. Now that the schedule is out, I think we'll be lucky to beat Carolina, 1-16, then Mara will get involved and tank next years draft, then the following year he'll fire Daboll and blame him, who's the best coach since Coughlin, rinse and repeat. After all, we are the Next Year Giants.
With all due respect to Giants Fans like Lauren is nobody on the team at Quarterback clearly will never ever ever ever be what Eli Eazy-E Manning was in his own Prime Winning Two Super Bowl's 4:44
You like jj McCarthy?
I think he has all the tools to get it done in the NFL with the right coach.
It’s going to be DJs year
i’d much rather suffer through another year of qb purgatory(daniel jones) while drafting an elite receiver than force a qb and be committed to that guy for the next 3-4 years if he isnt a top tier prospect
Valid. I guess where my opinion differs from a lot of other Giants fans is I thought JJ and Penix were going to be good NFL QBs
@@SheGotSportsi wouldnt say that they cant be, but jj mcarthy will likely have limitations in his game, and Penix tore his acl twice while also playing through injury in the natuonal championship. Fair or not, those injuries are a dangerous gamble for someone to put their job on the line for. I do think if the giants are bad this year, next year they’ll have to force draft a qb, whether they love him or not… so lets hope we’re good and dont set our franchise back 5 more years 😅
@@SheGotSportscongrats on 100k btw 🎉
This is a multi year rebuild at this point. The QB wasn’t available, so we wait until next year. It’s the only logical decision even though it sucks. It’s too early to tell what next years QB class will look like. Before the seadon Jayden Daniels was a projected 4th round pick. You gotta wait until you can draft the guy you want so next year it is. They may also strike gold on a free agent like bucs with mayfield. Let’s see what Lock can do. Starting Daniel jones is a complete waste of time since they have to cut him after this season regardless of his play.
It would be cool if Lock got some playing time this year
I didn't see the giants draft a qb, while just having payed Daniel Jones. Next year might be something different, but on that contract he should get that next year, if you were willing to extend him.
In my opinion the wrong move in the first place, then jj could have been a viable option.
For that matter, Nabers is the right pick to help make the money you spend on Jones worth it.
Love her videos so knowledgeable
great move you mean to tell me their isn't a QB next year that can be better than JJ and no knees Penix? Carson Beck, Sanders, Ewers? Hello?
As a chiefs fan I wish you guys the best of luck I think Daniel Jones will stay another year then draft a new quarterback is needed for next years draft.
I see your point but Nabers is a generational talent. He will still be productive with a mediocre quarterback.
Yeah he is an elite player for sure
Don’t think you guys did any research at all! Just reacting to what everyone else said!
No
Ok 🤠
ok so if we get a qb who is he gonna throw the ball to. it works both ways. when you are a bad team and you get a qb on a very bad team the chances of him being good is low { like when we drafted daniel jones and why are where we are btw } look at young this year or alot of qbs that go to bad teams and how they play. why not build around the qb who every it is and when the times right get a qb where he can developed right. you cant panic and take qbs on a team thats alowed 83 sacks the second most in nfl history and have not had a wr over 1000 yards since 2018. thats how you set back your team. if you want a real good team it takes time.
I hope so too Lauren I really hate to see such a beautiful marvelous young lady like you as a Giants Fan who really does not want the 2024 season be bad or worst of the season 5:20
Well commanders made the good moves
It's going to be a problem for us eagles.
As a broncos and bengals fan my fav teams I’m glad the giants didn’t take J.J. McCarthy cuz of the situation the giants could’ve put Daniel jones
Never needed a qb got DJ a real number one and are building the team actually
Great pick I would’ve liked to get maye but definitely not jj at 6
@0:05 …. O no ….. I know that look! ….. son of Gase! ….. I feel bad for you guys ….. - A Jets fan.
Can’t wait to get a real QB! Thx speak the truth to the fan boys. Go Lock!!
Giants didn’t draft a QB at #6 this year because they know Danny Crimes will get them much higher up if he lasts the whole season. 😂 Just kidding Giants fans. Danny might surprise us this year.
Have you ever heard of smoke screens ? Giants were never trading up
Not true they tried. They were never truly interested in JJ at six, or at least Schoen wasn't.
Pro bowl ain’t nothing
Your so beautiful Lauren your the best cutie
Is this da same girl that use to make 2k vids back in da she got kicks ?
If you are a true giants fan you didn’t want a qb or offensive lineman considering our past. I don’t understand the point of this video we all wanted Nabers. Im so happy we didn’t trade up if anything we should’ve traded down if Harrison and nabers were taken before 6 considering how heavy this WR class is.
Nabers is great but jones won’t throw past 5 yards
I don’t think wanting any specific player makes you a “true” fan or not. Again this is just my opinion doesn’t mean it’s “right”
No they didn’t
I like Nabers. The problem is that we have a shitty qb.
It’s because he doesn’t have an oline and he doesn’t have a receiver
When I see Kadarius Toney and Richie James shit the bed in KC and Kenny Golloday still being a free agent. I don’t think it was Jones fault his WRs were just ass lol. Bro’s never had the line and receivers other QBs have had. 2023 had shitty QB play across the board. Hurts and Burrow were ass and then Burrow got hurt. Herbert wasn’t playing nearly as well as he normally did. So many starting QBs got hurt in general too. The Jones hate is really stupid. I get it he’s not showing himself as a franchise guy but just let him play one more and stop bashing the poor guy lol.
He seems like a nice guy and I feel bad it hasn’t worked out. But part of the problem is him not making the right checks at the line of scrimmage letting a free rusher get to him. (Watch the Seahawks game from last year to see a lot of that)
@@SheGotSports I've seen him make checks before yet with simple defensive line stunts or just being beat our line hasn't been good. Yes, I'll admit the Seattle game he wasn't audibling as much or making the right checks. The PFF grades support this. Pass blocking since Eli's later years for some reason hasn't been the best, although run blocking wasn't as bad. Just say you don't like him. Every media member that doesn't like Jones always says he's a nice guy but he's not throwing pro bowl numbers while throwing to guys off the street with defensive players getting in his face in .2 seconds sometimes. When you been getting molly wopped for so long I'm surprised he's somewhat functional and aiming to go next year. Burrow has had some pretty bad injuries too behind a poor O Line.
Again if he sucks then boom he's gone. Just wait another year.
Yall don’t watch football next year quarterback is good
MARA NEEDS TO SELL THE TEAM! End this shit!
Mara didn’t do anything
@@MrTreyshawn22 He keeps hiring yes man. Joe Schoen is a spineless yes man “GM”.
Maybe Drew lock will be a good Qb with the giants I mean he sucked with the broncos and he was ok with the Seahawks so maybe he redeemes himself with the giants
And what pro bowl wr did danny dimes ruin nobody he has had tiny slot wrs that get injured and cant block for the run game facts is no offense line no big targets or real threats saquan always was hurt and missed big plays or dropped passes by wrs and rbs no te act like danny had a great surrounding cast ever .plus
wasted offensive line draft pick bust for some many years
Kenny Golladay…
Go BIRDS 🦅
The Giants tried to get Drake Maye. But the Pats simply wanted him for their team and rejected all trade attempts. And here comes the point where I have to clearly disagree with you. Just because “any” QB was available at the 6 doesn’t mean you have to take him. Personally, I don't think McCarthy and Penix are outstanding QBs. And I'm not alone with this opinion. McCarthy only benefited from a good O-line during his years at Michigan and even there he repeatedly made terrible decisions. He was also far too immobile outside the pocket. And then he should play with our porous O-line? Really? And don't tell me we've strengthened ourselves in the FA. What came next definitely doesn't raise us to an elite level. And Penix? Anyone who saw him in the National Championship Game against a good defense knows how miserable he played. He would have lost against Dallas or Philadelphia. So I agree with Joe Schoen, not to have started a desperate act to get anyone. I'm not a fan of DJ8 either, but McCarthy and Penix definitely wouldn't have been an improvement. I firmly believe in that.
I guess that’s the difference then. I liked McCarthy and Penix as prospects. But again it’s just my opinion doesn’t mean it’s right
Idk i believe in jones n think he will be better with nabers n hyatt🤷🏾♂️
I hope so! I would love nothing more than for Jones to ball out!

The logic that I don’t want to watch Daniel Jones for another season
@@SheGotSports ik you a DJ hater and i'm no fan of his but id way rather us draft a top tier receiver at 6 then a second tier qb who would have literally no weapon to throw it to and would be DJs story all over again, if DJ really isnt that guy then we cut him next season we could easily trade for a veteran qb as a place holder
@@wetdripp no I don’t hate him. He actually seems like a really nice guy. I just personally thought Penix and JJ would have nice NFL careers. But again that’s just my opinion doesn’t mean it’s right. I think nabers is going to be a good NFL player, but I find it inconceivable that we've not looked to get a new QB in a deep draft class when it's clear we need a new QB desperately - his career year with us endee up with him being around league average.
Two deep QB draft classes and no new QB - though I got why they didn't in 2020 given they'd just signed DJ.
