I was able to flash the FC but when I rebooted one of my motors pulses whenever I connect to betaflight. Even when motors are stopped I watch the RPMs pulse on betaflight. There is voltage on the pads of that motor and none of the rest. What's wrong 😢
@@JoshuaBardwell I am looking for the prebuilt. Now that I know what it looks like I can prob find it. Hopefully you’ll have it bundled with a controller and headpiece. So when we are hooked up to betaflight is it 6S to smokestopper to power supply, then usb to computer? Also do i gotta worry about it overheating when in betaflight? Ive noticed some of the boards get hot on previous bnfs after a few minutes
When I was checking the motor direction they all spun wrong and then when i clicked to change them they didn't change the direction they spun. Also instead of having all my motors spinning constantly they spun and stopped in a pattern. Please respond I don't know what to do.
The reverse direction button doesn’t reverse the direction. It only tells the flight controller the current direction it’s spinning in already. You have to change direction a different way.
If you have goggles 2 then you can update the Vista to firmware 01.01.0000 or newer, and it will bind to the gray FPV controller v2. If you have V2 goggles then the answer is no.

24:11 Is there a phone app or something that can connect, upon user request, to the WiFi and tell it to switch to the controller? It's an obvious design flaw that the controller doesn't have a WiFi radio so it can do this on it's own?
@@JoshuaBardwell I thought you were saying if pwr up in wrong order the copter enters a WiFi config mode. That's great, unless the controller doesn't have the hardware or software to connect via WiFi and ask for the other mode. Like if unplugging power is the correct step, then someone is ignoring a bug.
Question: I have a tx12 and when I go into the systems key and run ExpressLRS it is stuck in the loading screen. What can I do for it to not get stuck on loading?
Thank you for the video. I'm in the process of building your drone. I am at the step of deciding which way to orient the ESC and FC. Do you think it's best to orient it the same way you did? I was going to orient the ESC with the big pads forward to face the FC "forward" and possibly make the cables shorter in the process but it seems like the "forward" is actually "backwards"? I was hoping to be able connect the xt60 cable at the left front, both to make it very short and save me a headache but also so that I can run the battery balance lead into my thumb pro
I am building DJI 03 air unit and I am totally new to this. but I don't know how to choose 6s or 4s motors and best FC for it. any answers is appreciated. I am interested in long flight minutes. that is why I did not want the avata.
Hey Joshua Bardwell I bought your drone and it is coming pretty soon. And I'm super excited!!!! I already have Beta Flight downloaded. But I can't seem to find a way to install ExpressLRS Configurator. Is there easier way to download it that I'm not figuring out.
I'm not sure what to say. It downloads as a standard Windows installer and installs like any other app. www.expresslrs.org/2.0/quick-start/installing-configurator/
I just flashed my Succed X v3.2 from iflight with BF 4.3 and BF thinks my FC is on backwards. Just had to realign it. Maybe an issue with the new firmware?
this has been super helpful so far. but the part I'm stuck at is I can't get express LRS to open on my radiomaster tx16s after I install it. I also don't have a debug prompt when I plug in usb if that's needed; only joystick, storage, and telem mirror. and I can't find the solution anywhere online. does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
I just ordered stuff to build my first drone. I bought a speedybee v3 722 (Esc and flight controller). I have a flysky fs-i6x transmitter and a fs-ia6b reciever laying around. Could I use those? The reciever has I bus on it but the reciever says sbus. But is there some sort of setup that I can do to change that or buy a reciever that is compatible with the transmitter and flight controller?
I can't seem to flash my receiver, I hooked everything up right and selected all the options as you did in the video but it gives me a failed to connect, no serial data received
For anyone else that is having the same problem there are two small pads that need to be jumped for the first time flash from the factory. After that you don't need the jump anymore, hope this helps
Should I be getting continuity across my motor leads after soldering them to my flight controller I keep getting a Continuity reading after I finish soldering my leads to my board and it’s throwing me off. I’m scared to hook up a heart Lipo to it even with the smoke stopper cause I don’t wanna throw my flight controller😅
I've flashed successfuly, but betaflight does not ask me to apply custom defaults when I reconnect, no matter how many times I disconnect and reconnect. I don't see anywhere in betaflight to manually apply defaults. It looks like I can only do that through the pop-up that I'm not getting. should I move on? Or, will this screw something up?
so for programming the DJI controller he didn't do any of the button assignments. Are they done already with DJI controller or it has to be done as well.
I’m following this tutorial exactly except I have a Radiomaster TX12. When I turn in the TX12 and plug in USB there is no serial debug option. There is only the USB storage and USB joystick options. How can I fix this?
The tx12 must not have internal elrs. Are you using an external elrs module? What receiver do you have? You can email me jb@joshuabardwell.com if you want to discuss this.
Solved my issue, bent a pin on the FC side of the ESC cable but incase it happens for anyone else - Anyone able to help me figure out why in the reorder motor wizard only 2 motors spin (both left side when looking at the camera), and when doing manual control through the sliders 2 spin (same side) and 2 beep, but when using the master slider 3 out of 4 spin? This is my first build so I'm not really sure how to go about debugging this, I tried resolding the wires on the side not fulling working but that didn't change the results
I soldered my receiver to TX3/RX3 instead of using UART 4 like in the tutorial. It works fine. However, TX3/RX3 are just above from where the VTX is plugged in. I get video, but when I arm the quad it doesn’t get out of “Low power mode”. Is there a chance that it doesn’t work because that VTX plug in the FC is using RX3/TX3, so I basically have two things on that UART?
I followed this tutorial and had everything working perfectly. I go to fly today and my goggles give me a barely visible image and the screen is flickering and now I just get an even worse image. Any Idea on what may casue this?
@@JoshuaBardwell only thing I changed is the location of the battery voltage in the osd, But I flew it after and it worked fine. I did have a small crash last time I flew, but again it worked fine. Im worried my anntenna may be damage, but I see no signs of it.
Can anyone else clarify. I always understood that the input capacitor should be as close to the load as possible. I know the reason you put the capacitor on those wires is to run them somewhere else less crowded from the battery lines, but doesn’t that somewhat defeat the purpose of that capacitor.
thank you for all the guidance so far on this build, my first ! i have one problem, i am using IRC Ghost for my RX and i feel i have the module and the TX16S working as they should, however i cant get it to talk to the Xilo any help here would be fantastic. i did wire it to TX4 and configured in betaflight serial on uart4 and setup the receiver tab to serial(via uart) then selected IRC Ghost for serial provider.... am i missing something ?
A common mistake is to not bind+setup in the ghost module, but just to bind. Make sure the ghost module is set to protocol GHST and then bind+setup. Also you have to go to the CLI and type: set serialrx_halfduplex=on save
@@JoshuaBardwell thats exactly what i did :) just bind, now after bind+setup the led on the receiver is now red and blue on the module, but seems stuck... does it take a while to Bind+setup?
@@JoshuaBardwell thank you Joshua i really appreciate your help!, it seems fully bound now i have a green/yellow light on the transmitter, the ghost module has rssi, snr and info updating in the little ghost module screen and on my radio, just still not talking to the Xylo... even changed to TX3, and setup as i did on TX4, tried srxl2 , irc ghost... too many hours on this today need a break. :)
@Joshua Bardwell, Sorry if this is a dumb Q but if I am using an analog vid w/smart audio but using DJI v2 with the Wildfire BDI Digidapter setup, do I choose the JB OSD for Analog or JB OSD for DJI?
I am in the process of building one of these and I am trying to use a frsky r-xsr and I am having trouble figuring out which port to use in Betaflight does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm not sure this guide works anymore as Betaflight seems to be completely different, none of the menus you go to seem to even exist, all there is is a small section in the flasher menu where you can't do a lot of the things you did. I can set it to DSHOT but not bidirectional, and there are no options for 150 300 or 600. There seems to be no way to get to that menu you were at where you were configuring the rotors and stuff. Is there a more up to date guide or am I on my own with this?
You're using 4.4. This video is based on 4.3. You can still use 4.3 and the flashing options go back like they were. We are working on an updated video series now.
maybe someone might be able to help but i have a tx12 edge tx and a frysky receiver and i was curious if i could flash express lrs? im assuming not but any help would be greatly apperciated
You can't flash ExpressLRS to a Frsky receiver or a 4-in-1 module. It only works on specific hardware. FrSky R9 and ImmersionRC Ghost already have compatible ELRS hardware, and can be flashed. But generally if you want to run ELRS, you'll just buy ELRS hardware.
@@JoshuaBardwell okay thank you! I’m just really confused because my frysky receiver binds to my transmitter but when I go to beta flight it’s not showing any input from my transmitter before I flashed bf 4.3 onto my FC built and tuned by rotor riot. I doubt they made a mistake. But i don’t know I’m lost I’m new to the hobby always had a interest but wasn’t able to really start acting on it till now.
"There may be some other drivers you need to install as well" - The linked video does not mention drivers, so I am not really sure what is being referenced
Wondering if anyone can help with this, I got to calibrate the motors, I have DSHOT 300 selected and bidirectional Dshot turned on but when I agree to do the motor test 2 out of the 4 motors(front 2 motors closest to camera) the error % is 0 but the other 2 show 100% and won't spin?
@Joshua Bardwell I turned it off and still the same, one of the 2 motors will start twitching but won't spin. I have no resistance when spinning the motors, checked with the multi meter, and everything checks out fine. Also when I plug it in and pinch both motors I feel no vibration from the beeps but will getting all 5 beeps of start up
Ok if you feel no vibration at all from those two motors, not even the 1st-three startup beeps, then I think the ESC might be damaged and you have to contact support@getfpv.com to discuss it. Sorry for the inconvenience :-(
@Joshua Bardwell thanks man! I've been trying to wrap my head around what's going on haha keep up the great work! I've definitely learned a lot from you
(Update) I got a new esc got it all wired up and the situation has improved. All the motors except one is not responsive. Made sure to try d shot on then off, no change. Tried to feel the vibrations and different from the last time I can feel the first 3 beeps in the unresponsive motor but not the last 2? Bad motor?
ok im stuck on building and flashing the zorro controller. it keeps asking for a com port and it keeps looking for com4 but mine is com6 on my flight controller. how do i get the com4 detector lane to get away. its not showing it on your end at all. but on mine it is for the controller? any help is much appreciated
The exact number of COM port will vary from computer to computer. When you plug in the device to USB, a new COM port should appear. When you unplug the device, the COM port will disappear. That's the one you want to use.
@@JoshuaBardwell ok so the controller finished building and flashing but it made its own com port. it wouldn't allow for me to use the other one. so i guess i got throw that point? now im having trouble finding telemetry in beta flight lol.

Can i use my existing DJI FPV Controller 2 with is config?
What if you dont use elrs I'm using flysky for now?
What stack do u recommend for my cinelog25hd? Need to replace the original
Joshua, the video feed in the goggles just shows black, with the ch-r-8. I don't know what happened, because earlier today it was working fine! I appreciate any help.
Joshua,
So far everything is perfect with the build. I got to the point of the DJI sections. Unfortunately I've got a FrSky setup. Are there any special procedures that I would use to set up my FrSky transmitter and Fat Shark goggles?
is the radio setting same for those without external module?
Why there is telemetry lost when packed rate is changed. It happens to me too and it keep saying signal critical and c sometimes dissaper. On 50 Hz when I have that on 1000F it works
QUESTION: Hey Joshua, I just finished building my drone using the same components as you, but using a 3d printed frame. However, whenever I arm the drone, the motors go slow for a second before going full speed and start screeching. What should I do?
I seem to be losing connection to the quad as soon as I switch to 50hz on my elrs module. I switch back to 500hz and it works fine..strange
I was able to flash the FC but when I rebooted one of my motors pulses whenever I connect to betaflight. Even when motors are stopped I watch the RPMs pulse on betaflight. There is voltage on the pads of that motor and none of the rest. What's wrong 😢
I am looking in your store for the prebuilt setup that you made in this video. What is it called? There’s so many to choose from.

So when we are hooked up to betaflight is it 6S to smokestopper to power supply, then usb to computer? Also do i gotta worry about it overheating when in betaflight? Ive noticed some of the boards get hot on previous bnfs after a few minutes
Great detail
When I was checking the motor direction they all spun wrong and then when i clicked to change them they didn't change the direction they spun. Also instead of having all my motors spinning constantly they spun and stopped in a pattern. Please respond I don't know what to do.
The reverse direction button doesn’t reverse the direction. It only tells the flight controller the current direction it’s spinning in already. You have to change direction a different way.
I was able to connest to my quad but when i tried to flash it it does not work, but i impulseRC Driver fixer fixed that problem
Will this build work with the dji fpv controller 2
If you have goggles 2 then you can update the Vista to firmware 01.01.0000 or newer, and it will bind to the gray FPV controller v2. If you have V2 goggles then the answer is no.
@@JoshuaBardwell I have the goggles 2 and the v2. I would really like to try this build. You done a great job on the walk through. I don’t think I would have to annoy the local fpv community with multiple questions. I just don’t want to have to buy a new RC I have the one that came with the dji fpv. Thanks for the response
I love this build however im having some issues with binding? nothing seems to be working and everything i check online doesnt seem to be helping. also a noob to fpv so im not sure what to look for sure. lol. but is a very fun build and if i ever figure out my issue i will be doing another one.
Better to email for this type of question jb@joshuabardwell.com
Will any FC work with any ESC?
yes
24:11 Is there a phone app or something that can connect, upon user request, to the WiFi and tell it to switch to the controller? It's an obvious design flaw that the controller doesn't have a WiFi radio so it can do this on it's own?
The controller has wifi in its elrs module the same as the receiver. I'm not sure what functionality you're asking for.
You can build it that way and often times I do when building this frame. The capacitor can tuck in behind the camera.
I am building DJI 03 air unit and I am totally new to this. but I don't know how to choose 6s or 4s motors and best FC for it. any answers is appreciated. I am interested in long flight minutes. that is why I did not want the avata.
which UART is the Caddex vista connected to when Im building the digital Quad? Im trying to get betafligthOSD working, Thank you!
It downloads as a standard Windows installer and installs like any other app. www.expresslrs.org/2.0/quick-start/installing-configurator/
you forgot to put Jb private repo link in description!
I also don't have a debug prompt when I plug in usb if that's needed; only joystick, storage, and telem mirror. and I can't find the solution anywhere online. does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
there is no longer a JB OSD for DJI in your repo
Yeah there is it's just combined all the OSD presets under a different name.
Is this kit no longer available?? Looking to order it but out of stock I was wondering if it will be replenished or its done deal
There is a new version of the kit. The 2022 kit is discontinued.

Does anyone else have a digital version with a radiomaster zarro elrs controller and having binding issues with the receiver and the controller?
Yes motor wires are connected to each other inside the motor windings. It's normal.
They are done already.
@@JoshuaBardwell woooow good thing i plan on digital thanks for the response
My ecs says it don’t support bidirectional dshot
The ESC that comes with this kit definitely does support bidirectional dshot. You could email me if you want to discuss it. Joshuabardwell@gmail.com
With tx and rx4 being used for reciver can I still install a GPS? I cant find another tx and rx available. Can I use sbus and s port for gps?
You can use UART 3 for GPS, unless you are using that UART for digital vTX.
@@JoshuaBardwell crap, yep im using it for vtx digital, uhggg lol. Thanks for the clarification 👍
Why is it always +/- 97.7 in the calibration (my two radios have the exact same values)? Is there a reason why EdgeTX does not default to it?
I don't know why it's always like that. Some protocols don't do it but most of them do.
I can't find a pinout for that FC online, but I would say, if it's not working, do it how I show in the video because that's verified to work.
@@JoshuaBardwell sure! Thanks.
I followed this tutorial and had everything working perfectly. I go to fly today and my goggles give me a barely visible image and the screen is flickering and now I just get an even worse image. Any Idea on what may casue this?
What camera and vTX are you using? Analog or digital?
I am using the Analog.
@@JoshuaBardwell
What changed? Did you change anything at all about your configuration or setup?
@@JoshuaBardwell only thing I changed is the location of the battery voltage in the osd, But I flew it after and it worked fine. I did have a small crash last time I flew, but again it worked fine. Im worried my anntenna may be damage, but I see no signs of it.
This is a tough one. It seems like hardware damage might be the issue. Try changing out the camera for a new one.
Can anyone else clarify. I always understood that the input capacitor should be as close to the load as possible. I know the reason you put the capacitor on those wires is to run them somewhere else less crowded from the battery lines, but doesn’t that somewhat defeat the purpose of that capacitor.
Yes but what choice do you have?
thank you for all the guidance so far on this build, my first ! i have one problem, i am using IRC Ghost for my RX and i feel i have the module and the TX16S working as they should, however i cant get it to talk to the Xilo any help here would be fantastic. i did wire it to TX4 and configured in betaflight serial on uart4 and setup the receiver tab to serial(via uart) then selected IRC Ghost for serial provider.... am i missing something ?
A common mistake is to not bind+setup in the ghost module, but just to bind. Make sure the ghost module is set to protocol GHST and then bind+setup.
Also you have to go to the CLI and type:
set serialrx_halfduplex=on
save
@@JoshuaBardwell thats exactly what i did :) just bind, now after bind+setup the led on the receiver is now red and blue on the module, but seems stuck... does it take a while to Bind+setup?
Try power cycle the RX after bind+setup, then press bind button.
If you have DJI v2 goggles and Vista vTX choose jb. OSD for DJI.
@@JoshuaBardwell Appreciate your time to reply!. Will the analog version work for my setup even though I am not using SharkBite?
It depends what vTX you have. If DJI vTX, choose DJI OSD. If analog vTX, choose analog OSD.
I am in the process of building one of these and I am trying to use a frsky r-xsr and I am having trouble figuring out which port to use in Betaflight does anyone have any suggestions?
You can see me wire an RXSR to that FC in this tutorial video from 2020 - ruclips.net/video/FEittnx42Zc/видео.html
Try disabling bidirectional dshot. Does it work then?
