    I was concerned about using the 150 grain hunting ammo I found at the store in my M1, this put me more at ease using it. Thanks.
    By the way your chart is well put together.

    Good job and much needed info! I was always leery of the "old wives tales" of ammo and the Garand M1's. Glad to see some real evidence and and good opinion that agrees with mine (cause I know I'm always right) and supports the same conclusions. Thanks!

    Nice video thank you!
    I recently got an M1 been to the range few times , I was shooting LC72 no issues
    Turkey Ammo 64-65
    I have heard people having issues with turkey ammo from 63
    I shoot maybe about 100 rounds and I had one shell stocked , gun instructor was there an Korean War veteran who train with the rifle and explain to me to use proper lubricant on the barrel mouth were the extraction happens .
    He got the shell out by pushing the operating rod down and the butt at the same time .
    He said was a common issue if the gun wasn’t properly lubricated .
    Now I got S&B M2 ball and gonna try it when season starts.
    Also shoot PPU no issues whatsoever

    I enjoyed adjusting the variable gas cylinder plug. Suster? One click in until bolt cycled and picked up new round then locked it with outer screw

    • @jonathantatum8437
      @jonathantatum8437 22 дня назад +1

      This is the best solution - tailor your gas to the load you are using. People who shoot ARs are well used to adjustable gas systems, which means a softer recoiling gun that doesn't stress the parts unnecessarily. No reason not to treat the Garand the same way.

    The only scary,hot surplus round I shot out of my 44 unmolested Winchester was Genevelot 49 . It kicked like a mule. Only shot 3 rounds, scary hot. It is a 150 gr all copper and lead corrosive primer round made in France. It had a new op-rod spring at the time.

      @@themilsurpguy8758 Good. I was worried that with lesser velocity ammo it may not cycle properly. I will mostly be shooting CMP ammo and hunting ammo in the average velocity 165 to 180 grain. Plus I was not sure if it would be CMP JCG match legal. It's nice to know I don't have anything to be worried about. Thanks

    Would you recommend getting a Garand Gear plug or one of the adjustable plugs just to be safe? I am getting a Garand from the CMP soon and want to be able to shoot whatever ammo I can get my hands on since it is hard to find right now and if nothing else, it will be less hard on the gun.

    • @themilsurpguy8758
      @themilsurpguy8758  3 года назад +2

      If you have watched the videos I see no need for either of those. The rifle runs fine as is when properly lubricated and with good springs. If anything get a few spare springs which should easily last several thousand rounds each.
      Latest testing shows the wolff springs actually reduce oprod velocity an average of 10%. So thats an option as well.
      The aftermarket plugs can cause cycling issues in some guns with wear in the gas system.
      I don't use the aftermarket screws and have no plans to do so. If they were really needed they would have been available in the late 50's when civilians first started shooting garands.

      it means that pretty much all commercial ammo is fine in your garand if it's properly greased and has a good oprod spring 19.5"+ long

      No its not, do more research i learned the hard way I bent Op rod then cracked my stock, AND sometimes the action would drop out. kept repairing until I figured out all that commercial Winchester ammo I bought at Kmart was the culprit. Myth I can assure has NOT Been busted. Go ahead shoot 220 grain or commercial ammo with who knows what powder burn rate, bullets EVENTUALLY you'll see for yourself if its a myth I guarantee it!!!! I shot garand with cmp Greek ammo or m2 ball garand ran great.
