If I was Maybourne, I would have a dilemma. I would like to be king but I would miss the comfort and pleasures that gives technology. On the other hand, I'd prefer to be king rather than a nobody in jail.

I would totaly prefer to be there. Even if not a king. Living in technologicaly advanced world is actually boring and you waste all your time and not enjoying it.

The average person nowadays probably has a slightly bettter quality of life than an ancient king would. I mean hot baths and meat everyday doesn't seem like a big deal now but that was pretty hard to get regularly for most of history. But on the other hand four wives!
Plus you'd probably start to actually care about your subjects.

I love Maybourne. I wish we had gotten more of him. Not too much, just a bit more. He and O'Neil where great together.

Actually not exactly, although there might be some ascended ones hanging around.
thats probably what happened, examined the events of this time, and then went back to make the ruins with the prophecy, and left the puddle jumper it there for them to find. he knows not to mess with timeline like that if he stayed.

1. He came, he saw, he went back and wrote the prophesies. Then he left the time machine where it is now.
2. He ascended
3. He went through the stargate to the time machine that was introduced in the movie Continuum, and went back home to his own time.
I like reading fanfics and one I've been reading for SGU has Mayborne return a few years later to bring intel to Colonel Young. His planet had been taken over by the Lucian Alliance and he learned a lot during that time. What he revealed to Young led to him and Jack leading a coup against the IOA and launching a major attack on an Alliance base. Jack reveals he knew Mayborne had returned to Earth but just left him alone.
"Take 5 guys!... I taught them that expression." Way to draw attention to the fact that this is an isolated human culture that has had no contact with Earth for thousands of years, yet they all speak perfect contemporary English. Just like on most planets SG-1 visits...

How did Maybourne learn that Jack was promoted ? & he's apparently not surprised that Daniel isn't ascended anymore.
It looks as if Jack arrived well after the others, so they had chance to bring Maybourne up to speed before Jack's arrival.
It's almost the first thing they say. They go without Jack to save Maybourne (from an upcoming Goa'uld attack), since Jack isn't quite his best friend... so the first thing he asks is "Where's Jack?", and the reply is "General O'Neill is back at the SGC".
"General O'Neill? That doesn't sound right...?"
Cos he was talking to SG1 earlier on?
Jack comes through the gate wondering if he was sent to a Renaissance Faire.
It scares the hell out of me. That these kind of people can be in the service.
They're not. They're professional actors. I doubt that anyone with Maybourne's serious character flaws would even be accepted into officer training in the USAF today, let alone make full bird colonel. Or King.

I hated him so much at the start. By the end of the show. He was up there with Daniel and Teal'c as favorites.

& I think that I saw this episode. It is very good to be King, as it turned out that the good Col. has about 20 good looking honeys that turned about to be his many wives.

Seriously, he's no Kurt Russel or Snake Plissken...but then again what do you expect from a character in the Chair Force.
