Could the writers have written enough to separate D.Jackson and Quinn. I thought that Michael Shanks either did not like what the writers were doing and not doing with his character. To work that out and bring in Jonas Quinn might have been to much. On the other hand. I didn't like the season 7(?) episode he Jonas was in yes it might have ended better. I agree.
I liked Jonas a lot. After several seasons of the same characters, with pretty much the same reactions to the same situations over and over, it was kind of nice to introduce a newbie with a sense of awe in situations the other characters just played as "another day at the office". If I had been a die-hard fan from the beginning, I might have hated him. But, having only recently started watching the series again, I think he was a great addition, and I really wish he would have been on the show a lot longer. It's always a bonus when the new guy is cute, too.
I was a die hard fan from the beginning, and I never understood the Jonas hate. He was far more interesting than Daniel ever was, and in my opinion, a better actor too.
I was a die hard fan and crushed by Daniel's 'death', but Jonas was a great character and I wish they'd utilized him more after Daniel came back. His interactions with Teal'c were the best.
@@CSHummer I mostly agree plus given how slow daniel and occationaly carter took to figure stuff out it would have made sense to keep him on anyway in universe outside that keeping the extra actor on would have kept both sides of the daniel vs jonas fence mostly happy
I know people didn't like him much, but I thought he was way more interesting than Daniel in so many ways. I hated all the Daniel returning as an ascended being junk
I think Daniel acting as the distant sponsor of the SGC kind of worked but they never quite knew what to do with that sort of set up. Jonas was great, though he had a little too much in the way of technological competence and was under-used as a sort of... let's say non-warrior analogue to Teal'C.
@@CSHummer People were probably slow to warm up to him because everyone missed Daniel, but Jonas was a great character in his own right. I was glad Daniel came back but I would have loved to see Jonas on SGA or guest starring after he left SG-1
@Ashakari Singh I never could get into SGA, because, after watching several episodes, both the cast and the characters seemed very boring. Jonas would have been a bright spot in all of that, and probably would have been enough to make me keep up with it.

Jonas really should have had his own spin off show. Like the Langaran’s SG team commanders or something. Versus the Ori, maybe going up against the Wraith- just SOMETHING. Maybe even finding an alternate version of his Goa’uld girlfriend who he could be happy with?
Yeah I felt he was written that way and it was really unfair to him. Characters and actors should never be compared to each other unless its for a specific purpose in the story. And in this case, it wasn't.
@@xxZerosumxx Not really Daniel was very smart just only in a limited field same as Sam and when he came back he had a small amount of ancient knowledge

I never watched Stargate when it aired, I was born too late. So I was very surprised to find out people didn't like Jonas back in the day. I thought he was a great character.
I think the fandom was a little shell shocked by Daniel dying to be honest. I watched Stargate from 1999 and I remember not really wanting to watch the 6th series after that. It was also their first year on sci-fi channel instead of showtime.
Haha I think Mitchell was just there to be the local cheerleader but I kind of loved him for it. After eight seasons he was the only one who was excited about absolutely everything.
I think what was unfair about Jonas, Mitchell and Vala - from GateCon, DragonCon and other convention panels - was that their actors were low-key treated as "adopted children" by the cast and crew who had been there from the beginning. I think Corin Nemec (Jonas) wasn't given a chance to continue because Michael Shanks came back after a year, and I remember Claudia (Vala) and Ben (Mitchell) mentioning in a panel that they were kept apart by the crew for at least a year - despite them being veterans and the stars of Farscape. I love Stargate to death, but it's sad that this happened because all these three actors brought something interesting to the story of Stargate, and it didn't seem that they were given enough credit by the producers and writers for it.
This interaction is great. I liked Jonas and never thought he's strange (i have great Memory too, by the way) -sad we never heard what happened to him during the Ori Arc. Sadly, we can figure it out with logic: He rebelled, and was overpowered and killed.
I’d like to think that Jonas Quinn led an underground resistance group when the Ori took over his homeworld and caused them a lot of grief before the Ori were ultimately defeated.
I remember being confused over Corin Nemec when I revisited StarGate some years after having seen it the first time. I didn't remember his character's name, and I thought his real name sounded more alien than his character's name Jonas Quinn. Corin Nemec sounds made up. So I thought they had made an error on IMDB.
As a die-hard Stargate fan from the beginning, I really liked Jonas! I don't understand the hate he gets. He was written well enough to have an interesting character development, and I also liked how intelligent and creative he was. He was a nice addition to the story of Stargate, and I don't understand why people think otherwise. However, I hated that he was low-key written throughout season 6 as a "Daniel replacement" and even treated as such by the rest of SG-1, even though he was indirectly involved in Daniel's radiation poisoning. It was also unfair that he was simply kicked out with little apology when Daniel de-ascended in season 7, because he did work hard when he was at the SGC.
As an astrophysict I agree with you! Journal subscriptions are ridiculously high. What surprises me in this scene is that Sam, of all people, gives him a look when he mentions he's read the research published in the journal article. Sam's been talking about things beyond the entire room's intelligence level for years and she gets looks all the time. You'd think that when someone else did it she'd react like she found a kindred spirit, not with an "Oh no you didn't, I'm the smart one around here!" attitude like she does here.
Wait they didn't like him off the screen either? That's sooo sad.... :( I read that someone met him and he was a real nice guy to him. Fame can go to your head pretty quickly I guess.
