- A UN employee who contracted Ebola while working in Sierra Leone is being treated at the Begin hospital, near Paris. The same hospital treated another patient in September who survived Ebola. Bloomberg went to the hospital to meet with the doctor overseeing treatment.

Darth Plagueis most people have SOME level of OCD. If you’re offended by the original comment, you need to go to your safety bubble somewhere isolated. OCD is a very common thing, and no one feels insulted except you... for being the sensitive butterfly that you are. Just let this person enjoy their comment, and go nag somewhere else.

The low air pressure in the isolation chamber is so that just in case a pathogen is tracked out into it and then the outer door opens rather than any potential contaminants being blown out into the building the low pressure causes nothing but suction inwards. The lab I work in handles radioactive materials and our hazard hoods employ the same principle to prevent radioactive material from being blown out into the lab.
The same applies to the Sarcophagus over Reactor 4 in Chernobyl, which I think is amazing.

Why do you think the CDC has labs to study that disease and risk people's lives every day doing so? Because viruses mutate and there's a tiny chance this very thing could happen. The stuff of nightmares.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it. Ebola is evolving to become less lethal. Probably to increase its chances of spreading. It also lives in the bodies of survivors for months after recovery as an STD.

Why should they protect themselves so much, it can’t come with air only with liquids?!
I'm not really a profesional in the matter, but I think it is because liquids such as saliva can pollute the air creating some sort of aerosol, that same aerosol when inhaled can transmit the pathogen.

If you even touch their bedding that has a drop of infected blood or saliva on it, you could get ebola. A fleck of saliva gets in your eye? You can be infected. It can even be absorbed through the skin if I'm not mistaken. This disease is highly contagious and spreads much more easily than you would think. Then it's a terrifying, painful, horrible death ahead of you. Ebola is definitely not something to be taken lightly.

Those are many more pieces than I was imagining, no wonder you have to check staff days afterward. The whole assembly is much more piecemeal than I thought. I guess I'm thinking pressured BSL-4 level isolation. They actually take more precautions than this in radioactive isotope labs. This looks like a cheap $20 tyvek suit, with some gloves you'd use to clean out the sink. I guess you just make do.

Ebola is not a respiratory virus, as such, it has a very low chance of even getting into the air. It mainly spreads through contact with infected bodily fluids, which is why the medical personnel in this video are wearing full-body disposable protection suits.
