You could engineer bioweapons anywhere you want if you have the right equipment setup. So I guess, yes, you could engineer bioweapons in that specific lab if it was converted
The government in the UK and the USA can create a very small amount of bioweapons and chemical weapons but for defensive research only! Offensive research is banned under international law!

So you're saying that the perseverance rover is not capable of analyzing that mars samples on the go? Like why aren't they build a rover/facilty like that on the Mars itself, controled by an AI.. as this is the so called "AI era"

It's a fair question: how much tiny but potentially catastrophic risk are we willing to tolerate for the possibility of huge scientific discoveries? Most likely there are no life forms in the samples. But if there are it would be both an unprecedented event in human history and, potentially, an unprecedented (if small) risk. Remember, also, that a huge majority of microbes on Earth are not dangerous to us and we inhale them in huge numbers with every breath.

Great! Brand new taxpayer-funded money. I don’t see a reason for a new fund of this level for such an early stage. I don’t think allocation to such a project is necessary. Do we really need a BSL-4 level, of course? I don’t really think so. It seems like NASA has run out of ideas to spend more American dollars.

Lol, yeah, let me just set fire to my own house while I'm in it! I'm sure that's the exact mentality of every scientist. (/s, since this is the Internet)
Do you think we should bring back samples from Mars?
No.
This is a very not smart idea.
Yeah I'm almost certain not even pathogens can survive on Mars.
Yes
Yes, maybe Martian soil is good for growing broccoli
Of course 👌

Could you engineer bioweapons type viruses in that lab? Do they?

I think it’s illegal or a bunch of important country leader people signed some stuff that says they won’t
They are called ePPP labs. Dangerous variants of well-known pathogens are made. Eg: airborne bird-flu virus. It's not legal to create new viruses
We don't even have the technology to completely make a cell from scratch.

NASA can only aspire to that level of security

Did we discover life on Mars? Or is this in preparation to attempt to discover life on Mars?

why not check everything on moon or iss i mean yhey are going to the moon anyway
The answer is in this video. You can clearly see how complicated process it is. Imagine it building the lab on iss or even on Moon (Mars).
