I had an Ebola scare during the 2014 Ebola outbreak, the most serious outbreak on record to date and the only one considered a public health emergency of international concern and a threat to public health in South Australia and Australia. I came into contact with another patient in a hospital emergency department waiting room who developed symptoms consistent with the early stages of Ebola two weeks after returning from a West African country affected by the 2014 Ebola outbreak. One week later I developed symptoms consistent with the early stages of Ebola. It was a false alarm I just had a severe case of the flu which causes similar symptoms to the early stages of Ebola, but it left me so traumatised that in November 2024 more than 8 years after the 2014 Ebola outbreak ended on June 6 2016 I still have sometimes graphic nightmares about it.

This made me emotional. I study medicine and for some aspects when I approach to a disease I give more interest into the symptosm, risks ect...forgetting that there are people and human lives behind all of that. I feel hopeful
