Choctaws (S-Steps) are by far one of the most difficult steps in figure skating. A deep running curve one way, twisting those hips all the way open and then creating a curve in a different direction! Besides being an EXTREMELY difficult step to do, they look absolutely AMAZING when done right. So what is the easiest way to learn this cool step?
In this lesson, we show you the easiest way to learn a choctaw (S-Step), even if you have never attempted one before. Beginning at the barrier and understanding the movement of the step is crucial for any figure skater. Then we take it to the middle of the ice where we slowly add speed before putting it all together to show it off. So if you're ready to learn a Choctaw (S-Step) then check out this lesson!
In this lesson you'll learn:
- The simple steps for new skaters to start doing a Choctaw (S-Step)
- The beginner mistakes that all figure skaters should avoid
- The easy tricks that will have you feel the step sooner rather than later
Happy Skating!

Choctaws look so good. Thank you!...and you're soooo good, incredible how you flow on those deep edges. I've seen that on your backwards swizzles lesson.
My pleasure 😊❤️❤️
I love you videos you help me for my audition in Disney on ice ❤

Our pleasure!❤️❤️❤️
какие же вы молодцы. Vielen Dank!
❤️❤️❤️
Great instructions
Thank you!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much for the very pedagogical and bimechanical analysis. I have a question, can you make a few videos to advise dancers on pair exercises? Video material for pair dancers is disastrously scarce and the popularity of this sport is declining. Could you help?
Great suggestion!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much Stacey! Been trying these in my last session. How do you keep your direction of travel going down the ice instead skating a circle on the inside edge?
After you step/push onto the back outside edge from the forward inside edge, you must press that back outside edge and make sure shoulders are open. The curves should be even. If you only have good forward inside edge, the S step won’t keep moving down the ice. I hope this helps. You can always DM us on our instagram so I can send you move videos on the S step 👍
You have great tutorials!!! Can you mąkę wideo with some excercises to open hips and increase mobility for skaters? 💚
Yes of course!❤️❤️❤️
Stacey how many steps all counts to push your together
Thank you very much! Do you think I will able to do it if my turnout is horrible?
You can do it!❤️❤️❤️
@@nextedgetutorials❤thanks again
Thanks for this video! I have troubles with the transition to the inside edge. I am loosing a lot of speed there (unless I put it more to the direction of the glide, but then the other leg is not in front when I lift it). How can I fix this?
You're welcome! Just keep practicing it and using the barrier feeling the edges and how the body shifts back and forth 😉❤️❤️
You say Choctaw kinda funny!
☺️☺️☺️
Choctaws are the most diffcult for me because I dont have that hip turn out
They can be tricky but keep working on them and you will get it ❤️❤️❤️
