Pretty cool to be catching nice smallies in January! It seems like they are pretty aggressive for such cold water. The Asian carp problem is something I hope we can solve someday. It's really frustrating when they take over all our waterways. Throwing them on the bank creates another problem that other anglers have to deal with. I don't see many of them in our rivers yet but I know it's only a matter of time.
Yeah, they were aggressive for this trip! Yall didn't see the other 3 times I went to that bridge this winter and caught nothing lol. Hopefully some scientist will create a disease that only affects silver carp or something. I don't see any other way than that.
@@EngineeringHooksets I guess it goes to show that if you find a place you think is promising you should stick with it and eventually it might pan out. I work as a research scientist doing gene editing during my day job. I need to convince my peeps that it would be a worth while R&D project to explore introducing sterility or some other toxic gene into the population. I know others are working on this but it would be fun to work on a project related to fishing. I think this would severely hurt 618 Fishing's videos however because he catches a lot of Asian carp!
@@BackroadsAngling Wow, that's really cool! Hundreds of millions are being spent to keep Asian carp from the Great lakes, you guys could get rich off that! How would you spread sterility through the population if the "infected" ones cant reproduce? And I laughed out loud at the 618 comment. In reality though I think it would probably help his videos. Asain carp makeup over 90% of the biomass in a lot of Illinois rivers and that would be replaced by native species.
@@EngineeringHooksets There is a technique used in mosquitoes where they release sterile males into the environment to mate with the females. The eggs that are laid aren't viable. If you release enough sterile males to out compete the healthy males then most females lay non-viable eggs and the population crashes. They have started using this in places where Zika virus is at its worst. I think the same technique could be used for Asian carp if it isn't already. Also if you could find something that Asian carp eat but nothing else will then you would hit the jackpot. You could engineer a poison that only the carp would eat. This one would be tricky and you would have to be really careful to ensure that you are not getting any collateral damage.
For the past 2 years I have a spot where I have caught my limit of 5 smallies, not a single one under 15 inches, biggest one was 19 inches all in 20 minutes.
Dude! Is that the Sangamon or Mack? That’s crazy how many Asian carp are stacked up in there. I grew up in Decatur fishing all around central IL. Now in the Chicago burbs, Asian carp are no joke. Good vid! 🎣
Ahh cool I'm formerly from Sangamon County but reside In Tennessee been down here for almost 3 years, and you should really see some of the smallies I've caught since moving here they are on my channel and new subscriber.. Great upload 👍
Your handling is pretty rough. Lip bass when they are still in the water, don't lift them out using the line... and get them back in the water quickly.
That spot is just a network of broke off line. Its cool you are able to get smallies in that carp soup, and some studs, too. Good luck buffalo carp!
Thanks for watching, man!
great outing. Nice smallies.
Thank you!
Great video dude! Cool winter river action. That first smallie was really nice! Can’t beat that this time of year.
Thanks, man!
Good on ya for getting that buffalo back in the water!
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful smallmouth! Looks like a 🔥 spot in the summer!! 🎣
Thanks! And it's actually a lot better in the winter than the summer due to it being really deep.
First video of yours I've seen. Enjoyed it. Nice smallies.
Thanks, Mitch!
Awesome stuff man! Some really nice smallies out of that hole! 👌👌
Thanks man! Wish they would be there every time I hit that bridge up but usually its just the carp
Love your content, could watch ya all day 🙏🏾

Great video!!! Anyway you can clue me in to the line popping that you did??? Just curious...
Thanks! Do you mean when I got the snag free? You just kind of pop your line and let it go slack, sometimes it frees your hook.

Thanks! I'm hoping to move to TN one day
Where in central Illinois?
Those carp got big the one I get I just cut them up and burn them.
I usually just cut their gills and toss them back in the river
@@EngineeringHooksets ok
👍🇺🇸
Thanks for the view, Dan!
Is this the sangamon?
U using a leader?
straight 15lb braid. I dont use a leader unless its super clear
@@EngineeringHooksets Thanks
You won’t make a dent in the carp population.
I made a small dent
the only other thing them carp are good for is fertilizer.
Facts
