It’s likely people that simply don’t care. I run into the so called bucketheads there nearly every time, people get annoyed when they don’t catch what they’re after and then proceed to do something completely stupid like that. It’s a shame to see nearly everywhere in IL, but vids like this hopefully get the message across.
Was wading in clear lake northern Wisconsin, and was of course standing still in water at drop off, casting distance from log jam crib. Was catching perch & rock bass on minnows, but warming up for some musky fishing with bucktails. As I released a smallish rock bass, I felt a bump against my leg. Water was crystal clear in this spring fed lake. I was hip deep on the typical north Wisconsin rocky drop off. To my surprise, the bump was from about a 20 pound musky that must have grabbed the rock bass I just released, and overshot the strike. Bumped my leg. Musky just stayed there for 10sec or so.
I actually caught my PB pike on one a few days ago so they are pike certified! Pic on Instagram but the video won't be out for a few weeks. And that would be awesome! Thanks!
Hey man. I'm from sterling Illinois. I live in Florida and come back the 15th and found this video doing research on which River I want to fish between the kank, dupaige, and fox river for smallmouth bass. Gonna go over by Naperville for a day as I have some business to take care of there. If you could let me in on which stretch of the kank this is, I'd be very grateful. I'm catch and release, and would love to even fish with you.
It's the hydroelectric dam in Kankakee, IL. You'll catch a lot of fish if you use a ned rigged Engineered For Hooksets lure! (Engineeringhooksets.com 😉)
The lack of common sense or just lack of caring in some people is really sad. I deal with this a lot with people leaving drum, buffalo and any other species they don't like laying on the bank. Or just the piles of trash people leave after fishing just makes me wonder what they are thinking. Nice smallmouths on the homemade lures! I'm not sure what plastic you use but it is very durable. The do-it molds stuff I use seems to tear out after 1-2 fish.
Thanks! I use Dead on Plastix floating hard blend for the Siren. For the Wyrm, I use medium blend which is a lot less durable, unfortunately, but I have to do that to get good tail movement.
Rock bass actually change colors depending on their surroundings. I discovered this when I caught some super dark ones and then put them in a white bucket. They turned super pale, then dark again when I took them out and held them in the water. Also, those guys chucking fish are horrible. That's just messed up. 😤
Gotta take care of the resource. Just no excuse for that stuff. Hopefully they were just ignorant, if not there is no excuse. Awesome looking baits, looks like they are doing the trick!!
Man I was fishing and wading that exact spot likely before you were born Caught countless smallmouths quite a few walleyes channel cats and a few northerns Did hook into two huge fish that took off as if on fire I never got a look at either before they emptied my spool. Guessing were large flatheads or Blues.
Love the Video! I fish Chicago harbors a lot for Trout and Northern. We should link up! I’ll put you on to some trout you hook me up with the river life. Have been wanting to fish more let me know if you’re interested man from Orland Park area!
There are some ignorant people out there that should not be allowed to fish at all ! I see it all the time ! They ruin it for everyone else until they are caught and fined . They are everywhere and in large numbers.
Quality smallies and rockbass. Too bad those ned rigs aren't concreteless so you wouldn't get snagged. 😂 It is nice catching on your own lures/bait. Carry lipgrips. I've seen a lot of people get cut badly by pike and the grips are light and take up no space. 👍
Kankakee river is a great river to fish. Never fished that dam though. That was pretty messed up with the throwing of fish. It’s crazy what you will see while fishing. Keep up the great videos, and I will have to check out those baits.
I hate people. I see guys catch and keep bass during the spawn all the time and did so this past weekend. I can't stick around and fish when I see them do it. In NJ bass cannot be kept until June 15th as well. I think if anyone is going to keep an 18 inch smallie, they don't really care if its in season, and I would bet they don't have a fishing license as well.
It takes a true moron to drop fish on the rocks or cement. It’s for that reason I try to fight the wet hand myth that causes so many people to drop fish out of the water. That being said the DNR in my state routinely stocks fish from planes.
I had forgotten some states do that, but this river is very shallow. I've waded all the way up before and its probably only ~2' deep where some of those fish were landing. Combine that with a boulder under the surface and that's probably a dead bass.
New bait makers spend years refining their baits/patterns prior to releasing them on to the market. Waiting until they get them perfected. "Hey guys, I've never actually caught a fish on this color scheme, but please buy my product." Come on man, must have been an airwinger.
Ah yes, my favorite hater is back. You have got to be THE dumbest person I've encountered in my comment section. It's literally just a color, not rocket science, and it clearly works. I went through 10 different 3D Printed prototypes to get the shape right. If you think lure manufacturers specifically test each color before they sell them you are insane. Bass will eat anything, every possible color combo will catch fish and everyone knows that.
hey its the kid u met walleye fishing i just learned how to tie my own knot and i caught A NICE smallie
Thats awesome!

Yeah, it's pretty sad. People suck. Thanks for watching, man!
Buckethead poachers are a big problem in northern Illinois. The DNR need to be at these bodies of water and issue tickets and warnings!
1000% agree

That's really cool!

might have to get some of those plastics fishing my home town river ive cought pike on the south side bank
I actually caught my PB pike on one a few days ago so they are pike certified! Pic on Instagram but the video won't be out for a few weeks. And that would be awesome! Thanks!
Dude the Siren put in work! Love to see it man! You’re making certified fish catchers!
Thanks man! The baby carp squarebill will do that too!
glad to see you got on some good fish. What you saw is why I like fishing from the yak..
I love kayak fishing as well! Unfortunately spillways attract that type of people
That is a really nice lure set up.
A grat vid. Incredible looking spot. Just what a a gob of crawler's on a small Carolina rig would catch. Just looks so much like spots i fish. 👍😄
Thank you!! Im glad you liked it
Where can you park to get here??? I know where it is, i’m in the Kankakee area
Just went and ordered myself a pack of Sirens. Super reasonable prices, too man. Love your content. I expect I'll love the lures too.
Thank you so much!!

Yeah, they're pretty neat fish! Thanks for watching!
i grew up in Kankakee. Those guys fishing do not care at all.
Anyways great video. I would love to start fishing myself. Would be great
nice video fhising very good my friend
hi i had a question when u upload your videos what catagory do you put your fishing videos as entertainment sports?
Yep, Sports
Gotta take care of the resource. Just no excuse for that stuff. Hopefully they were just ignorant, if not there is no excuse. Awesome looking baits, looks like they are doing the trick!!
Thanks man!
Hey, I'm a big fan trying to follow in your footsteps, how did you get and fish here, where is it?
You're a big fan but not subscribed? Interesting. Its in the title, dude.
hehe@@EngineeringHooksets
I would have contacted a CO. Great video though. Love fishing that stretch of the river.
Thanks!
My friend and I are watching your videos dying laughing.
Because Im a bad fisherman? 😂
Man
I was fishing and wading that exact spot likely before you were born
Caught countless smallmouths quite a few walleyes channel cats and a few northerns
Did hook into two huge fish that took off as if on fire I never got a look at either before they emptied my spool.

Its a great spot!
Man that’s frustrating seeing those fish being launched
Indeed it is. Thanks for watching, man!

I appreciate the offer! I actually just took a job in TN though, so I wont be fishing in Illinois for a while.
There are some ignorant people out there that should not be allowed to fish at all ! I see it all the time ! They ruin it for everyone else until they are caught and fined . They are everywhere and in large numbers.
Yeah, it's pretty sad.. A few people ruin great fishing spots for everyone
Caught many great fish in the river over many years, the best with chicken livers and soft shells.
Quality smallies and rockbass. Too bad those ned rigs aren't concreteless so you wouldn't get snagged. 😂 It is nice catching on your own lures/bait. Carry lipgrips. I've seen a lot of people get cut badly by pike and the grips are light and take up no space. 👍
Thanks man! But pictures look way better without lip grips 😂😂
The entire face of that brick wall under the "dam" sign to the right of the stairs fell off
Kankakee river is a great river to fish. Never fished that dam though. That was pretty messed up with the throwing of fish. It’s crazy what you will see while fishing.
Keep up the great videos, and I will have to check out those baits.
Thanks! The dam is a good spot, very highly pressured, though. And that would be awesome!
man i hate when people don’t respect the fish
Same man, same
I’ll never understand keeping any smallies. They are suffering everywhere
Yeah, its unfortunate. But if its legal then I have no issues with it. Unfortunately most people who keep smallies don't respect the seasonal limits
Lake Michigan lots of pike

Yeah it sucks. I hate bucket fishermen. Thanks for watching, man!
Too expensive... Bought 5 different patterns😊
They're only $6 a pack haha, but Thank you!! Are you Robert? If so, your order is gonna be shipped on Tuesday.
@@EngineeringHooksets yep, thx 🙏 God bless man
A DNR officer probably would have been glad to come talk to that guy if you gave them a call.
Probably
Spillway area like to check this out

The people up on that wall is pissing me off so bad watching this video
Yeah its frustrating
Walleye fishing is much better in the rock river.
I'd like to fish the Rock River at some point
Stop being initialed ruler of everything learn to share
Lmao what does this even mean
