@@EngineeringHooksets I may have had an encounter or two there, but the window is very short and the competition to just get on the spot most of the time isn't worth the drive. When I used to live up the road that would have been a different story. More than once I caught, cleaned and cooked fish from that spot in the same night, good times...
Everyone who wants to target white bass and hybrids (and drum??) should hurry up and buy some white or chartreuse sirens! These spillway fish can't lay off them!
We like to use Crankbaits in about 20ft of water depending on the season and time of day for some huge Hybrid Bass. When you hook into a big one, the drag peeling is an absolute adrenaline booster
After testing your flukes I think you should either made the tail a little longer and a smidge thicker or make it jointed. Gotta love a good drum bite (The drum bite is always good when you dont want it 😂)
The bluegill is the strongest fighting freshwater fish ! Imagine a 8 - 10lb bluegill on the end of your line ? Now it be awesome they got that size but lb for lb they are the strongest fighting fish. That sideways swim is epic !
Marching to the beat of your own "drum"-mer, ey? ;) Don't feel "sheepish"...there's nothing wrong with a nice haul of sheepshead. Now, time to "wipe"-r the slate clean and try again! [I will see myself out]
Tough luck out there. There are so many drum in that river. The shad in there get massive. I have caught lots pushing a pound. Did Zac show you his home made jigs? I got my PB white bass at the sand spot just up river from your spot below the railroad bridge and a 3.5 pounder just below there. Hope you have better luck next time. 👍
@PeelingLine I told myself when I started selling lures I wasn't going to let that stop me from fishing other brands. One of my kayak videos coming up I used a Zoom Fluke 75% of the day and caught a ton of fish on it.
How did you meet up with him, i would love to fish with backroads angling. Was this video recorded late in spring or actually three weeks ago because i fish there and it has been very low
This was recorded in May. Backroads and I exchanged emails a couple years ago about fishing spots in Colorado because we both lived there for a bit. When I knew I was gonna be in NW Illinois I sent him an email and asked if he wanted to fish for a bit. He had to work that morning so we were only there together for about 10 minutes.
Whoever is giving you inside info must be full of crap! I think you got a small taste of how hard it is to edit my videos. I'm a babbling idiot. Those drum will fool you every time - they hit hard like a white bass and fight hard. I think that big rain storm just before this messed everything up. I thought it might be a good thing but it seems the rising water threw off the hybrids. We will get them next time for sure!! haha.

You are now the Drum King 👑
Cool spillway and river, glad you were at least catching something.
Keep up the great content.
Unfortunately I think I do rate that title haha. Thanks for watching, man!
Red Hot Drum action!!!
Ah you got to go to the Backroads super spillway! I am jealous! Awesome fish. Those were solid drum.
Lol thanks man
A drum run!!! They pull hard.
Indeed they do!
Great spot there! I’ve made a lot of good memories there!
Zach (Peeling Line's friend, who made a short appearance in this video) said he goes there for musky.

Yeah hybrid fishing is a blast
Nice bro 😎 and yeah I would be happy too catch anything I could after that drive too keep it up man awesome work
Thank you for the comment!
Yea we were pretty excited for the drum in Clinton that day but getting one after another would be frustrating in a way
Yeah it was frustrating, I was told there would be 10lb hybrid stripers and I got 9 drum lmao
Great video Matt 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks, Dan!
That spot is actually pretty challenging to fish. Backroads angling makes it look easy.

Thanks for the feedback! But there's really no way for me to modify the baits without getting all-new aluminum molds made, which is really expensive.
@@EngineeringHooksets Yea, I understand not like I didn't realize that when I commented. Just saying to someday experiment with new designs
What month are you fishing??? Out in those neck of woods

Yeah bluegill fight super hard. I'd love to catch a big one some time

No, he didn't show me any jigs. By the looks of it he only brought 1 paddle tail that he was using. Thanks for watching, man!
@@EngineeringHooksets I know you're trying to pump your baits but the KVD jointed flukes slay over there.

@@EngineeringHooksets Siren XL. Make it jointed.
Central Illinois to Iowa city 😅
Haha yep. I was up in NW Illinois going camping and this was only 90 minutes (round trip) out of the way.
@@EngineeringHooksets that is great 👍
12 hour drive for me

Anybody know wat website I could order those swimbait
You know what i think ? All those other anglers who thought they were catching hybrid bass dont know the difference between them and freshwater drum.

They must be, haha. That spot makes videos hard to edit in general with how loud it is. Next time!
@@EngineeringHooksets Ya I think if you spend enough time down there the sound causes hearing damage.
where do you [park?
Is this in Illinois?
No, this is in Iowa
First fish was a hybrid. Show the tooth pouch when in doubt.
Where is this what town
😂.
What address is this?
Mud line.
I believe you caught them in their spawning time/zone.
Iirc, they spawn around June-July.
This video was recorded in mid May. Maybe I'm just the drum master lol
