I grew up on the Susquehanna and been fishing rivers and streams for decades. Never thought of winter fishing for smallies until this year. Thanks for this video. I’m trying to get all the knowledge about winter river fishing I can. What kind of net is that by the way. Over 30 years of wade fishing and I never carried a net. 😂
Appreciate the feedback my man. The net is from a brand called “EGO” it’s their measure net. Super nice! They have a ton of different types though if you fish from a boat or kayak.
@@fishkrazed thanks Broski! I’m going to pick one up. I strictly wade. I travel 3 or more miles in a trip so I carry as little as possible. Last year I was cracking into smallies 4-5lbs and 3’s pretty consistently. I was wishing I had a net a few times. I need to find something thats big enough but not too big. Looking forward to checking out more of your content!
@@drewevans8850 thanks man! 🙏🏼🙏🏼 I love that net though. I’ve landed a couple 20” smallies in it, many 19’s. I’m hoping to make my way to the susky this spring/summer with my kayak. I’ve heard awesome things about that place!
@@fishkrazed I grew up on the north branch. I live in MD now and have a really healthy small river I’ve been doing well in. But fish the north branch of the Susquehanna every time I’m visiting my folks. I fish the upper Potomac and the Shenandoah a few times a year too. What state are you in? Sorry only seen a couple of your vids so far.
Mannnn how could you leave the susky?! 😂 I live in northern WV currently, but I travel a lot. I’ve fished some of the Potomac when I was visiting family.
Ehh… yes but no. Not because the fish won’t eat, but because if the water is extremely cold you’re probably not on the end of a 2-3 day streak of warm weather. A couple good days of sun will warm the water quick in the afternoon/evenings. I’ve caught smallies down into 35° water, but not in 32° water with ice flowing in the river. I think that’s where I personally draw the line is when ice is forming 😂
3/8 and 1/2 ounce in this video. First fish was 3/8, and the second fish I had to switch to 1/2 because I was using an old jighead and it broke on me lol
@@fishkrazed Nice. Thats what i use. I fish the same kind of waters you fish. I like how you explain what and how you fish certain areas. Just earned a new sub!
This makes me want to get some waders and get in a local creek in the winter!
Do it 🔥 creeks are my favorite to fish for winter smallies. They can’t travel far so the deeper holes usually always have fish. 🤝🏼

Try a white crank bait next time. I have great luck with that color or a white twister tail.
I will for sure!! Thanks for checking it out. 👍🏼👍🏼
GREAT TIPS! Will try next time im out this winter.
Lemme know how that works for you 🔥🤝🏼
Very good content. Thanks (would like to know what part of the country you live in ?!?!)
Sorry, just read in the comments that you live in northern WV. I live near Cincinnati (similar)
Yessir! Sorry for the late reply. I appreciate the kind words!
FishKrazed back again giving out the secret sauce!
Don’t tell anyone 🤫
Is there a water temperature you would call too cold to fish for smallies?

Yessir! Gotta love it
What weight did you use on that football head? 3/8?

Doesn't look very wintery
This was in February. Hitting those 2-3 day warm stretches for more success!
