i still have gtx 970
and which games can you play with it
@@ki-qk9iz most of the new games still good
So do I, my good ol reliable.
@@MasterChris66630+ fps right on medium or balanced?
Same I play escape from tarkov (painfully) and overwatch 2 (very smooth) on my 970 but I’m thinking of going to a 3080 but I’d need to upgrade everything lol
Still on the 970 from MSI bought it in 2015… starting to age now and thinking of getting a 4070 although I only game 1080 I like maxing settings and like the idea of not worrying about lowering or upgrading for another 8/9 years
Hmmm...seems overpowered for 1080p gaming. If you have a rather slow/old CPU, you won't reach very high fps in 1080p, anyways. I'd rather buy some newer used hardware and have a look at AMD's options. An RX6600 used is a deal, or an RX6700 (XT). I owned an RX 6700 XT (~$400), it's quite good for 1440p or 1080p newer triple A's. I might buy a used RX 6600 for like 140 bucks or simply wait using my old fart GTX 970.
I also game at 1080p and my Rtx 3060 12gb is great at whatever I throw at it. Cheap too.
Maybe... AMD????
One of the best cards ever released for the money.
You can play any good game, even the newest one, without any problems. At the moment I mainly play the multiplayer game Squad and the great thing is that I have 60fps with everything on high, while many others, with the latest $ 1500 cards, don't get much further or have problems.
i bought this card for $80
is this card worth $80 nowadays?
the status of the card is "like new"
edit: i meant i bought the gtx 980 for $80
How do you think squad would run with a i5-4460 CPU and 970?
@@30-06Lover The 970 is ok. The cpu a problem i think.
I have a i5 6600k on 4400mhz and that is 60 fps (vsync)
Bro theres no way you play squad on 60fps whenever i join servers i get 30fps max
@@ajsjsjs-fg2dp Now it is 58FPS after the big update and better graphics.
You have a AMD pc?
Why wouldn't you believe it? Do I have to take a special photo? Squad is better optimized for old graphics cards, but in the meantime many players already have 150FPS with the expensive cards.
I will have to renew next year, because then games will be released that I will no longer be able to play properly due to Unreal 5
My daughter is still rocking that exact same GTX970 on 1080p, and honestly if you're willing to turn down a few settings - it still runs everything.
I just picked up a gigabyte windforce gtx 970 off of the fb marketplace for 40 bucks. I paired it with a ryzen 3 2300x and 16gbs of 3000mhz of ram and i was surprised how well it preformed. I like using these and rx 580 8gb for budget builds to flip.
I do the same! Still some great value left in them
@@RAVisuals hell yeah they do. In my personal pc I'm rocking a watercooled gtx 1080 and its still holding up fine at 1440p.
I do a similar thing occasionally (pc flipping), if you get the right prices (patience:-) ) it’s not that hard to profit. The cards I most often use are: gtx 970, gtx 1050ti, gtx 1650, gtx 1060 6gb. They are extremely reliable, provide predictable performance, and can often be bought real cheap. I’m not so impressed with AMD cards (rx 580 8gb definitely is good value) they sometimes have stability issues, I never have any issues with old NVIDIA cards
what motherboard did you use?
This card saved my sorry ass when I needed something to run Halo Infinite. My friend lent me this card after thinking his buddy burned it out, and it sat for a year after I couldn't get it to work. Then Halo Infinite launched and my Radeon Sapphire R7 370 couldn't run the game. However, the games compatibility list read the 970 could. And I freaked out. I had a way to play the game, but it wasn't working. So by chance, I just tried the 970 again despite failed attempts prior, and by some miracle of the GeForce Gods, IT WORKED. And I used this card throughout all of 2022.
I just got it today and with an hour of use so far I can say I am beyond satisfied it runs vr titles such as blade and sorcery really well and 1080p gaming is amazing totally recommend the card
Wow that’s impressive glad ur happy
Is 75'C normal during gaming
@@questionmark8647 on air...yes...
Just dont play on a better system it will ruin the 970. I just upgraded and gave my 970 to my daughter tried VR on it and made me motion sick.
@@hendrixc6988 Well, that's obvious. You would need to really lower the res and quality and deactivate shadows and stuff, too less fps and too high frame times.
Been rocking a GTX 970 since I bought it new in 2015. Since I play games like CS:GO, Overwatch (now 2), PUBG and Fortnite, it's all I need to run my games at 1080p 144 Hz. Once Windows 10 goes end of life, I'll have to replace the i7 6700 and motherboard for something compatible with Windows 11 in 2025. But...I just may keep my ol 970....
The problem with picking it up now even if it's $40, is you'll need to upgrade too soon unless you absolutely only play low req games. So it's kind of a wasted $40 for only 2 years max. If you spend an extra $100 you'll get like a 6600 and you could stick with that for probably 10 years.
Woo, love that you did this video. I'm collecting components for a new pc build right now (an i9 setup) and I'm considering the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 12GB VENTUS 3X OC. I found the GTX970 card in a branch of CEX and bought it because i needed an upgrade to play Doom2016. Can't believe I've been able to keep this PC going for so long - probably thx to this card. got a lot of love for it.
I do around 250 FPS with max graphics on Gmod with it.
I got a 970 and it’s surprisingly good when u tweak the settings a lil bit
for sure!
It doesn't like modern shadows, that's for sure :D
@@bjornna7767 no it doesn’t but unfortunately I had to say good by to it cuz it died on me this week so now I’m in search of a new gpu
@@badboy3842756 Yeah, it's not the most realiable card out there. Hope mine brings me trough summer.
Rx 6600 (XT) and Rx 6700 (XT) looks like a deal, I'm chasing a used one, though, RX 7600 is releasing at the end of this month, thus, there maybe some more movement in prices, at least on the used market.
Had a 6700 XT, good card, but I want more for 400 bucks.
A used GTX 1080 is also nice, but you can get a used 6600 for nearly the same price and these cards perform nearly the same.
@@bjornna7767 I looking at the 6700 xt
still running my 970 that i got back in 2015 and despite it being overclocked since day one its still kicking, guess ill upgrade one day when it finally gives up. keeping the temps down with the water cooling prob helps also
So cool! I had one back in 2015 or so as well but then upgraded to a 1070 a couple years later
I got my for free in 2016. Was brand new and never taken out of the box.
what a steal!
@@RAVisuals should add am still running it until next year
In 2015, I purchased an Alienware Area 51 R2 with two GTX 970 SLI each card has 6 GB DDR5, and today in 2023 I am still gaming on this machine. Thanks for your video.
6gb? How? There’s no such thing.
pretty sure he meant 980ti in sli or something @@Tanzu15
I got the exact same evga card for around the same price, it's in my computer right now.
Built a 300$ with this and can get 30 fps on cyberpunk
Finally got a 970 WindForce for 60€ Including port, i did 1500mhz gpu 4000mhz mem and bios edited to 0db fans and still testing
For 60€ or whatever I paid for mine a few weeks back it's a great deal if you don't really play the latest games at least.
But if you don't mind paying 80ish more the 1660TI is probably also a good pick. If I paid that kinda money I'd want 8GB RAM tho. I see my current card as a stop gap til GPU prices go down, more or less.
My thoughts exactly! But yes, the 8gb of vram cards are much more attractive for newer games
1660 TI skip that crap
@@veljkodjudurovic2352 this is a year old bro. I wouldn't buy that card today unless its like 80 euros or something
I just bought one For 50€, im playing older titles like gta4 etc sonit was a great deal For me 😊
I would suggest getting a 1060 6Gb rather than a 970 , it got more vram and more power efficient than the 970
For the price of the 1060 6gb its not worth it imo. A 970 preforms the same and is much cheaper. Personally I would go with a rx 580 8gb I get them regularly for 50-70 dollars.
@@Arsonloke Well it depends on where you live, in my country the 970 and 1060 are priced the same so maybe location is also something to consider
Will 1060 3gb a good choice instead of this?
@@Aintnowayryan If the price difference of a 1060 6gb and 3gb is really big then go for it, otherwise go for the 6gb
I've had this graphics card since 2019. It's still holding up but I can see games are just updating to much and I see it's soon close to it's end life but will never give up, Even tho the temperture is average at around 53C*. This graphics card was built for this.
I use software upscaling, works like a charme. Could play Days Gone on triples 3x 720p mid-high settings upscaled to 1440p, literally at 55-60 fps steadily, though, it's long time ago this title was triple A. I use Lossless Scaling and the freeware Magpie. And, of course, Reshade to counter disadvantages of this method. As most new games kinda suck, I'm again happy with my repasted GTX 970 I'm going to undervolt and moderately overclock. Time for some classic games. And some Assetto Corsa on triples :D
@@bjornna7767 I have to EVGA version of the graphics card
@@bjornna7767 I do have one problem with it I can't get the screws unscrewed.
@@projects6371 For undervolting you would need a modded bios, then, but upscaling would work. Luckily, I got the Asus Strix and just found out you can unlock undervolting in afterburner with spec. cfgs, gonna try this this weekend.
@@projects6371 Are they stuck or is it because of missing tools for it? You could use WD 40 to get them going loose, or watch an YT clip when somebody opens it up.
Most of the time it's enough if you unscrew the screws on the bottom side (4 in general).
I just unscrewed every screw I could found and the fans came towards me, was such a mess, I was nearly scr3w3d, lol. But it's working fine now, cool and stable.
Just picked this up for $25 for a windows xp build totaling under $200 alongside an i5-3570k. It's going to slaughter the games from that era.
I'm running 2 GTX 970's in SLI, both ASUS Strix OC editions.. SLI isn't dead, just use Nvidea Profile Inspector to tweak around with any game to force SLI compatibility.. Works great on PUBG, Witcher Wild Hunt, GTA5, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Shadow of Mordor, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Skyrim SE, Fallout4, Black Ops 2; 3 & 4. Also CoD MWF Remastered, Watch Dogs Legion & Crysis 3 Remastered.. My GPU's are paired with the 3770K, Overclocked to a stable 4.2ghz, with 32gb 1600mhz DDR3 ram overclocked to a stable 1900mhz.. The details matter in regards to FPS..
Does your SLI work on actual modern games like cyberpunk?
No, couldn't get Cyberpunk to work properly.. Modern games suck, man.. I'm busy with a z390 9th Gen. 1080ti SLI build. I have very little regard for games after 2019..@@Tanzu15
just putting it out there, but the 970 has DVI, which is good when looking to hook up a CRT monitor for retro gaming.
Yes, this is actually why I'm keeping it on my "retro ish" rig. The 9 series was the last to include an analog VGA signal so it's a good candidate for using a CRT.
The useful life of a GTX 970 is longer than people think. It has practically the same graphic features as a 1080 Ti (12_1), the most powerful of the GTXs.
It only suffers from compatibility with Ray Tracing (12_2) of the RTX as relevant feature. But with HBAO+ available, it's more than enough.
It is nowhere near as powerful as a 1080 ti
@@olsaaan I'm not talking about performance, I'm talking about feature graphics, that's what defines obsolescence. If a game is well optimized, you can adjust it to video card performance, barely losing perceptible quality.
@@somebody2978 I get you
Trueeee, I had a huge fail with my GTX TITAN 6GB that didnt have hardware dx12_1 feature set and I could not even boot Death Stranding.
gtx 970 can be made to run in WinXP so it's both a budget win10 gaming card and a retro friendly gpu!
As someone who has owned a GTX 970 since release 2023 has sadly been the year it was laid to rest. In my main PC it was replaced with a RTX 3060, so the 970 moved into my media PC (which was a nice little upgrade from the GTX 760 that had previously been in it.) However while browsing Aliexpress I came across a RX580 8GB 2048SP for only £41.42 (around $50.49USD) and I snapped it up for that price.
So now I have my first all AMD PC and it performs so much better than when the GTX 970 was in it. If you have a GTX 970 it's perhaps not quite time to retire it yet but if you're in the look out for a budget card to buy today the RX580 8GB 2048SP is a better choice.
I know this is old but it is a instant subscribe when he tested eft
I beat Cyberpunk 2077 on my 970 but i had to drop resolution down to 900p for decent framerate.
It’s crazy that a 970 can even boot cyberpunk.
I have a 4080 in one pc and a 970 in another 😂 The 970 still shreds 1080p gaming 👀
My Zotac 970 SLI can still run mainstream games at mid-high settings along with 40-60 fps average.
When HL:Alyx was released I finally decided it was time to replace my faithful 970, so I ordered a RTX2060 super (yes, I'm a budget gamer). When it arrived, I really was not able to see any difference between the two in-game. Still got three 970's going strong in the household, but my daugther is not having a very good experience with it on RDR2.
Yeah, got one too and RDR2 is hard, had to lower quality a lot, that game made me wonder for a new card but the prices/vram combo don’t match my wishes for the moment 😂
yeah for rdr2 you wanna target for 3 to 3.3 gb vram usage. setup the "steamdeck 30/40 fps settings"@@flowinnature8235
I have to wonder though, can the GTX 970 handle emulation such as the Cemu (WiiU) or Dolphin (Wii-GameCube-Virtual Console) emulators, and so on?
if it doesnt drop below 30, and has consistent stable fps, you are good

@@wawery6579 well my whole PC died while I was just playing some BeamNG, and I was obviously very confused as to why. So I thought that maybe my PSU was dying, even tho it's less than 12 months old. So I unplugged the GPU as it's a big component as to stress the PSU less, and it fired up. Then to see if maybe the cause is my GPU being dead, I tried my brothers GPU, a 1050ti, and well my PC booted and worked with that, so I isolated the cause to the gpu, and it's likely the Mosfat chips that have died, or so I think because that's apparently a common thing

gotta 970 XTREME - some tech knowledge - you'll be at 60fps with most games (even dx12)
Yesterday, I again put it in my desktop I bought in 2021. I've already had put it in once as I first returned my RX 6900XT (too overpriced back then) and now again as I returned my RX 6700XT (nice card, but I want more for 400€). I bought the GTX 970 used in 2017, used it until 2021, donated it to my daughter, and gave her my used GTX 1080 I bought for triple screen sim racing in late 2021 and got this baby back in return. After 2 years of sleeping, this l'il *u*** is again pushed to the limits. Just replaced the thermal paste for the first time, runs very cold. Next step is to do some undervolting via MSI Afterburner (got the Strix model, there are specific cfgs for afterburner to unlock undervolting) and see, how less it needs to run stable, then, give it back some more volts and do a moderate overclock. Well, seems like im literally stuck with this card, haha.
love to see it! these things can seriously still push most games for sure
@@RAVisuals Well, I haven't had time to play lately, had a deal to sent back the 6700XT within 100 days (did that on Friday), and for those games I play atm, the GTX 970 is sufficient. Summer's also coming, hot temperatures and low GPU prices, was a no brainer to me as you don't get much for this card on the used market nowadays. Switched from triple sim to playing on one bigger screen in the living room via steam link, Assetto can run a stable 80 fps @ 1440p, as Steam Link only delivers 1080p, Shutoko at night is also stable :D. It's still possible to play it on triples, though, if you make it 3x 720p plus upscaling.
Had my first experiences with undervolting, too. When gaming, I can undervolt the card by -60, even -70 mV while ocing clock by 180 and memory by 466 mhz, which is insane. Only tested Assetto so far, Furmark crashes after some secs :D, but the card is very cool @60 C° (manual fan curve), only draws 160 watts and has stable overclocked hz with power limit @ 114% (which it seldomly reaches).
It's idling @ 25 watts with 2 monitors which is kinda meh compared to 7 watts of the RX 6700XT (PC's a daily driver for work), a heavy undervolt and underclock could only decrease 1-3 watts there. Also seems like the card needs some time to fully go into idle, then it sits at ~ 15 watts.
Hope it brings me through summer and maybe autumn, I keep my fingers crossed.
Iv got one one of the with a i5 10400 on a asus z590 board. It's runs gta5 online with zero stutters around 65fps. I'm happy for the 100$ I paid for the gpu...
As long as it can play the games you want it to, it’s a good buy!
@RA Visuals bought most the stuff used for under 500$ , just wanted to learn how to build a working computer... serves my purposes.
Thanks for the reply! Have a great day, your videos are good 👍
upgrading from the 970 to the 3050 😢
I don't mind getting one of this
they're still pretty darn good!
my first gpu
5 million words and all I could hear is "970 is still amazingly good in 2024".
My evga 970 sc plays baldurgates 3 amazingly good
Weird this other guy is ( zWormz gaming ran red dead with the same gtx970 and it was really good, smooth. .
seems ill be fine till i get my new rtxt card
Been going strong untill the last year. 8 years. It just can't keep up.
Thats the best model of 970, the evga
saying that 60-70fps are not optimal is kinda weird because if you have such a cheap card i dont think you will have a 144hz monitor more like a 60 to 75hz monitor
no, mine just burned out
Probably used it wrong. Sorry for you man..
@@emir7521 actually not. Just age. Never overclocked it, never did anything but tweak nvidia settings and shit, and daily gaming
Gtx 970 it is then thank you for this insight!
no problem!
I got gtx 970 for 30$
I can get one for 50€, is it worth it?
For that price, i think so!
@@RAVisuals Seeing as I have a piece od junk integrated intel hd graphics, this should be a nice upgrade.
GTX 9070! I'LL ADD IT TO MY LIST OF POSSIBLE GPUS
give them like 10 years maybe and a 9000s series will exist lol but yeah good gpu
time traveller spotted
I use EVGA Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB and it's great GPU for 2023-2024
What are your motherboard/cpu specs? I bought an pc that I didn't know was not usable so I'm just stuck with this same graphics card as video, fans, and a case
@@a.n.c.r.3564 MSI Z170A PC MATE & intel i3-6100 ;)
Still gaming on a 970 lol changed my psu before it died
I'm sure a lot of people still are!
i have it in my pc
Me playing Fortnite with a 970 getting 40-60 fps
Really?? What's your CPU? Fortnite is more CPU bound.
Meh for less than $130 you can get much superior RX 5700 xt that let you play anything at high/ultra at over 60fps/1080p (unless that's last of us remastered but that game is really unoptimized and still broken due laziness of the devs)
only problem with 5700 xt is the power use. For like $40 more you can get a 6600xt that will have the same performance fps wise. Buy paying the extra $40, you end up saving more in the long run in the monthly electric bill.
@@tgo007 6600xt is significantly more expensive in my country than just your $164 (it's more like $220) , for the same price of rx 5700 xt i can only buy broken 6600xt that shows black screen so yeah no thanks lol. Living in Europe sucks balls if you want to buy something newer but still rx 5700 xt is a great gpu for the price i can play 98% of the games i want.
I got mine for 50 on Facebook
test a gtx 1060 6gb
You ask and you shall receive!
Ooh
Lol Bought mine for 25 dollars on Facebook Market place just now.
