Honestly, yeah. The best subversive superhero stories are from those who love the genre, not those who hate it. It’s why the original Boys comic is kind of terrible. The show is better, but feel it’s made zero progress in the past two seasons. Invincible on the other hand, is a darker take on the superhero genre, but Mark is still the quintessential superhero.
@@andrewli6606 The Boys show kinda does a “too mature” for the superhero genre take. But it doesn’t completely shove it down your throat like the comic book. The comic book is pretty terrible, I read like 20 chapters and it just wasn’t it. The show is fantastic though, and it can demonstrate that you CAN shit on the superhero genre without trying too hard to be “cool”. Megamind takes a different route as well but it’s more fun and kid friendly.
the thing about the Boys (both comic and show) is that its not even a superhero story at all. Its a story about toxic celebrities and the systems that create them, with a superhero theme painted on top. Thats why a some people who take it as a superhero story dont connect to it, cause thats just not what its really about.
@@bobross4616 Feel the show has slowed down to a crawl. Feel like very little has happened in the past two seasons. Like I'm very aware Homelander is evil and scary Superman who can do whatever he wants. It's not scary anymore, just annoying.
@@andrewli6606 I think its gotten better as time goes on. First season was its weakest to me. The first season was 7/10, 2nd was 8.5/10, 3rd one was going to be a 9/10 until the conclusion and it became 8/10 again. Arguably 7.5/10. Its really good. Homelander is very well acted, and their take on the public's perspective is always true and funny. Corporation greed and the corruption among people is show-cased well. Butcher is a great character and had some good moments in S3. ALOT of this show is comedy, and if it doesn't hit you then the show pretty much doesn't hit you. Which i really like the jokes and satire.
instead of power corrupting hal, i think power *revealed* who he really was. he never really had much regard for roxanne's agency even before he got powers.
"This town isn't big enough for TWO supervillains!" "Oh you're a villain all right! Just not a SUPER one!" "Yeah?! What the difference?!" "PRESENTATION!!!!" I love this movie. I really want a sequel.
@@FallenOne669 Yes, yes, I know. By this point in time, Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate was released, and I watched it too, and it wasn't that good. (I'm way outside its target audience anyway.) But I stand by what I said a year ago. When I said I wanted a sequel, I obviously meant a GOOD sequel, not the one we finally got.
One of the best things about Megaminds is that he was capable of giving himself superpowers easily, but he was set on solving everything with his intellect.
So Megamind was originally written with Ben Stiller in mind. He couldn't do it because of scheduling conflicts, so he was given the role of Bernard. As for Tighten's name change, it was a low key way for the writers to show the corruption of Hal. When originally donned a super "hero", he was Titan, however, as he becomes evil, he transforms into "Tighten." The Guns N Roses confrontation is made even better when you realize Minion went all out for the "presentation," essentially that's what Minion thinks a supervillain *should* be. This movie is so dense full of fun things that it's a real shame Minions overshadowed this movie with only a few months separation. A Megamind 2 would have been awesome, but less is more, I suppose.
Most underrated movie ever. What I like about this movie the most is how this movie portrays the “nice guy” as their isn’t really a lot of films or media that have that type of villain.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps yea just like words, this combination of letters doesn't mean anything in other countries and even less in other planets, just a human-made communication system/program.
When I first saw Megamind in cinemas with my Dad, I noticed him looking like he was dying inside when Highway To Hell started playing. He said to me afterwards "When I was a teenager, these were the songs it was rebellious to even listen to, the kind that parents would have moral panic over. Now it's played in a kid-friendly film like it's nothing. I feel old now..."
Hal was powerless, that's the reason he SEEMED harmless. Then he got the power to do what he'd always imagined. Hal was the Nice Guy(TM) before the concept existed.
One of the best animated movies of all time! There was a point in time Dreamworks produced nothing but masterpieces. The recent Puss in boots movies gives me hope that they will make a comeback.
I'm surprised it never got a sequel. Seemed like a perfect series to continue, though I suppose it didn't crush the box office (did ok, but not enough to warrant a sequel I suppose). Apparently they're doing some series on Peacock that will serve as one, but no clue when it's supposed to come out.
Pretty sure the reason it didn’t kill it at the box office and why it didn’t get a sequel was because it came out around the same time despicable me did, both movies were similar and despicable me was clearly more popular so they decided not to continue megamind so as to not fight with the juggernaut that despicable me and the minions have become, megamind was a great movie, it just got overshadowed
Cool little detail, if u go back and watch the observatory scene, you can actually see Metroman blink in and out, I know u see it when he's in the real observatory, but I wanna say u can also catch a glimpse of him in the room with the 3 of them too
For those who don't know, the film will have a continuation in the format of an animated series. Megamind's Guide To Defending Your City will be the name of the series. I hope Blind Wave reacts to the series when it comes out.
Anyone else ever realised that Hal Stuart's name is just a mash of the 2 Green Lanterns.... *Hal* Jordon & John *Stuart.* You can tell it's apparent throughout this movie in general that the writers we're huge DC fans, especially Superman, hence why so many elements are practically based around his world of Metropolis, with a small pinch of Batman in there to.
It really was looked over. I'm trying to remember if I saw it in the theater or on cable for the first time. I'm thinking I saw it on cable and then fell in love with it. I feel it deserves so much more recognition now.
Hal was such a subversive villain for a kid's movie of that time. He was the perfect portrayal of an incel before incels were even a thing. I think it did a lot of good to show young children that just because you're nerdy and awkward, doesn't make you immune from being a bad person, which was a revolutionary idea considering that most movies and shows of the previous few decades showed nerdy socially awkward heroes get the girl from their (usually evil) muscular chad boyfriends.
One cool detail is in Roxanne's clothing where she starts out wearing red which compliments Metroman's gold, then midway through the film during her date she's wearing purple which is a mix of red and blue, which is the colour she eventually wears at the end of the film that matches Megamind. It's a great visual example of her switching sides from Metro to Mega's. Don't know if it was on purpose by the filmmakers, but it's pretty clever.
Schaffrillas Productions made a great review on this film and made me realize some thing i didn't even catch as a kid. This is trully one of the best Dreamworks animation movies, and definitely a pretty good deconstruccion on the Superhero tropes!
This film is tons of fun and criminally underrated 😎. That's a good point maybe Roxanne should have gotten the powers particularly at the end to help save the day and subvert the damsel trope a bit more.
It would have made for an anticlimactic ending. Roxanne would have just quickly and efficiently taken down Megamind (and Minion) without any of the dumb dramatics and monologs. Then taken over for Metroman. "You're the smartest person I know." From Megamind, the guy who can design and build dehydration rays, satellite solar powered death rays and a genetic manipulation gun. Problems solved. End of movie.
Yes I do have random analysis for this movie for no reason I’m copying. (Just roll with it.) Here’s the best way to look at Megamind, Metro Man and their effect on the world around them. They aren’t heroes OR villains. They are taking part in a school play and were assigned their roles. And they took both roles into being professional actors. It’s ALWAYS about the show, the presentation. Megamind’s methods never hurt anyone. It’s clear from how Roxanne treats his early threats. He wanted her to play her part, but like a show, it just LOOKS like she’s in danger. It’s all property damage, trolling…terrorism. But no one dies in this method. (You can’t possibly tell me he pronounces all those words wrong genuinely, and he just enjoys ticking people off by trolling them) He realizes he wants the other role, but he’s ASSIGNED his role, he can’t be another role unless he’s someone else. So he plays the director. And he made the WRONG cast choice but was too proud to choose someone else. He wants to escape not the show, but the tropes. He acts slightly entitled for Roxanne, but he is more saying I’m not ALLOWED to have these things because I’m the bad guy. You won’t LET me change. Metro Man straight up didn’t want this show anymore. He wanted another show. And one HE has to earn. Hence why he chose music. No physical training he always has done, no super power helping him do it, he has to actively learn how to play. And currently he’s awful and has to learn. Which is what he wants. Minion is more the backstage manager handling the costumes and helping the theatrics hit the perfect adrenaline. (Intentionally making those RIDICULOUS warm up times.) And when Megamind says he doesn’t want the role, Minion basically is saying the show may as well be canceled. Which it more or less was since all the cracks of the show WITHOUT Minion fell apart. Hal, was never in the show. He’s the camera guy. He WATCHES the show. He never played the role. He could only take what he assumed happened from watching. Metro Man got Roxanne because he saved her. Metro Man would never have died if he just put down Megamind. (There are MILLIONS of viewers that say that the hero should just kill the villain.) Not only was that untrue, but Hal never even fit in the roles in the first place. And showed exactly why someone LIKE Hal can’t have those powers. Because it’s not the power, it’s their control. And he has NONE. Because he never caught on this was a performance. He could act as he pleased because he wasn’t a character in the show. Roxanne realized as time went on how these guys saw their role and she decided to snap these people out with REALITY and not playing into their show. And it just kept getting her stuck in various versions until Hal was powerless, and she understood Megamind really was just as human as the rest of them.
He definitely genuinely mispronounces the words. He never got an actual education, so all the words he mispronounces are because he never actually hears them, he only reads them. It's common among people who didn't get a formal education.
Titan was the hero in Megaminds head, while Tighten was the villain Hal became… Also Metroman was honestly only a hero to be praised, you saw his speed he shouldn’t have struggled to beat megaminds plans it was just his hero complex.
Marlon Brando played Jor-El in the 1979 Christopher Reeves "Superman". The flying around scene is a reference to the flying date in the 1979 "Superman"
my favourite detail in this film is when Megamind is on the screens taunting Metroman at the beginning of the film, there is a 1 frame flicker where you can see Metroman appear on the screen behind Megamind.
Megamind is definitely one of the most underrated superhero films. Just because it was ahead of its time. Looking forward to seeing a TV show about on it hopefully soon.
24:58 When you watch this scene as it played in the beginning of the movie again, you can actually SEE a frame where Metroman walks behind Megamind. Stellar detail!!
Sadly we never got a sequel but there is a short that takes place soon after the movie where Megamind is trying to become a hero. I recommend you guys watch it
I love that it ends with Roxanne giving Megamind a kiss on the cheek, instead of on the lips. I think it shows that they are into each other, but not fully into a relationship, which is good considering their last one was built on a pretty big lie. They need to start fresh and new for their relationship to rebuild to what it was, and this time it'll be stronger because Megamind isn't pretending to be another person lol
If you slow the scene down a bit you can see Metroman for a single frame in the background while using his powers. Also if you put subtitles on, Titan genuinely believes his name is "Tighten" thanks to the voice Megamind was doing.
Fun fact, some Skeletons used in medical schools are real skeletons, some were from people who left their bodies to science, while older Victorian or earlier ones are often made from the remains of executed prisoners IIRC.
Wish there were more Batman Beyond and JLU reactions. Hopefully these guys will get to it, but it’s so slow going through just BTAS one episode at a time.
It's scary how often you guys react to films I'd randomly think of the other day prior 😳 Can't wait for the series on Peacock. Closest thing we get to a sequel, XD
I love the "forget me stick." It reminds me of a high school project I had to do for religion class. The point of the lesson was comparing how media can become a false idol and crap and we had to create a commercial skit on a religious topic and present it to the class. My group decided to model our commercial after Phil Swift and his infomercials. Our "product" was a spirt stick. One good wack, and anyone can be blessed with God's spirit.
Legitimately one the greatest animated movies and super hero parodies of all time. I’m both angry and happy this movie never got a sequel. Angry because it’s just by itself, and happy that it didn’t turn into despicable me (even though this movie is better than that by a country mile).
One theory I saw someone mention that I like is that had things gone according to plan, it was most likely going to be Roxanne who was going to get Metroman's powers, not Hal. Little interesting note, her dress changes from red to blue over the course of the movie. Reflects how close she gets with Megamind. No, Hal did NOT buy those flowers, he just casually stole the cart and chucked it, hitting most likely a pile of trash due to the sound of clanging metal and a cat screeching. One little joke I didn't notice until later I like, is when Megamind is hiding in the mech suit, the poster behind him is a hammer with a bunch of tomato juice splashing everyone to show Hal is targeting him and not playing into the showmanship Megamind and Metroman had. I also like the subtle foreshadowing about the copper. If you're privvy to Superman lore, either you recognize that something's off, or better yet it's like the guys here and think "maybe because Hal is human it doesn't affect him" but then later you see he's alive and him explain his whole plan. XD I'm glad Calvin joined in on the "he looks like Markiplier" joke when he sees retired Metroman, I feel like everyone makes that connection, and I just find it fun when people do. XD Megamind copying Metroman just makes sense, he's fought him for so long he knows his personality inside and out to know how to convince other people he's Metroman. XD Also a way to see through the watch disguise a lot of the time (I'm not sure on EVERY time) is to pay attention to the eye color.
One of the best part in this movie for me is that they didn't go for the low hanging fruit by making Metro Man a twist villain or be an asshole just to facilitate Megamind into becoming the good guy.
14:22 I’m just now realizing after all these years his name is “Hal Stewart” a combination of Hal Jordan and John Stewart (most popular green lanterns)

One of the best superhero subversion movies where it actually embraces the thing rather than fight it back pretending as if it's "too mature" for it
Honestly, yeah.
14:40 the "Forget-me Stick" always gets me lol
This movie was so ahead of it's time. Especially with Hal as the "nice guy" villain
"This town isn't big enough for TWO supervillains!"
"Oh you're a villain all right! Just not a SUPER one!"
"Yeah?! What the difference?!"
"PRESENTATION!!!!"
I love this movie. I really want a sequel.
No. No, you don't.
@@FallenOne669 Yes, yes, I know. By this point in time, Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate was released, and I watched it too, and it wasn't that good. (I'm way outside its target audience anyway.)
But I stand by what I said a year ago. When I said I wanted a sequel, I obviously meant a GOOD sequel, not the one we finally got.
@@ImperfectXIIII heard there is a petition going on by fans to get a real sequel to Megamind
If Megamind came out when superhero movies was the height of popularity it would hands down be alot more remembered
One of the best things about Megaminds is that he was capable of giving himself superpowers easily, but he was set on solving everything with his intellect.
he was only in it for the game
Fun Fact: Even though his role was brief, the Boss of the Prison was voiced by J.K Simmons! In case you guys hadn't seen his name in the credits!
I love how Metro Man was such a bro to Megamind that he went to his celebration.
The “watch the neck!” Every time that they hold a baby in the movie 🤣🤣 such a dad
So Megamind was originally written with Ben Stiller in mind. He couldn't do it because of scheduling conflicts, so he was given the role of Bernard.
As for Tighten's name change, it was a low key way for the writers to show the corruption of Hal. When originally donned a super "hero", he was Titan, however, as he becomes evil, he transforms into "Tighten."
The Guns N Roses confrontation is made even better when you realize Minion went all out for the "presentation," essentially that's what Minion thinks a supervillain *should* be.
Fun fact: the movie's subtitles actually go back and forth between Titan and Tighten
Why do I feel like this movie doesn't get the recognition it deserves?
That "deserving" is just something we humans made up may have something to do with it.

Calvin: he wanted to retire, he was tired of it!
Aaron: so he let him kill him? Coppers not really his weakness?
Eric: HE JUST HAD A SKELETON?!
Dreamworks are GOATed
YES!!!!! This movie is so underrated.
@@klm7514 good call. I forgot they came out around the same time
Glad you watched this! One detail they have in the film is even when Megamind changes his outward appearance, his eye color is usually the same.
Cool little detail, if u go back and watch the observatory scene, you can actually see Metroman blink in and out, I know u see it when he's in the real observatory, but I wanna say u can also catch a glimpse of him in the room with the 3 of them too
Megamind deserves a sequel
Agreed
It should be a satire on Multiverse films the same way this was a satire on the basic hero formula
There is one... kinda
it does but does it really need one?
Nah. Let's leave the good ones at rest.
When you want to rewatch a show or reread something again, just grab the Forget-Me-Stick
Yknow, when they wrote that Queen of England quip into the script, I think someone should have realized that joke was a ticking time bomb
i just watched this movie for the first time a few months ago after avoiding it for years. perfect timing. i love this movie so much
It really was looked over. I'm trying to remember if I saw it in the theater or on cable for the first time. I'm thinking I saw it on cable and then fell in love with it. I feel it deserves so much more recognition now.
This is a real fun movie. I think this is one of those movies that doesn't need a sequel of any kind.
10:05 Calvin really is good at doing impressions.
My favorite line in this is always when Titan is beating up Megamind and goes: "And this one's for Space Mom. You LIED to her!"
YOU GUYS HAVEN'T SEEN THIS?!? OH BOY AM I GONNA ENJOY THIS.
GET BACK YOU SAVAGES!!! @30:07 is still the funniest and Eric falling over laughing reinforces my feeling😂😂
I really love that they didn’t just do “the hero was actually the villain all along!” Thing like they easily could have.
(You can’t possibly tell me he pronounces all those words wrong genuinely, and he just enjoys ticking people off by trolling them)
He realizes he wants the other role, but he’s ASSIGNED his role, he can’t be another role unless he’s someone else.
Best animated movie created! Nothing surpasses it
So sad we did not get this movie's most iconic line in the reaction
"What's the difference?"
"PRESENTATION!"
Titan was the hero in Megaminds head, while Tighten was the villain Hal became…
Also Metroman was honestly only a hero to be praised, you saw his speed he shouldn’t have struggled to beat megaminds plans it was just his hero complex.
27:36 i could never see this scene the same way ever again 🤣
Megamind is one of my favorite childhood movies! I loved seeing this in theaters back when I was a kid!!!
Marlon Brando played Jor-El in the 1979 Christopher Reeves "Superman".
The flying around scene is a reference to the flying date in the 1979 "Superman"
Tighten really is his super hero name. Megamind actually tells Hal that was the only way he could trademark it.
“There is no Queen of England” Damn that hits hard 😔
my favourite detail in this film is when Megamind is on the screens taunting Metroman at the beginning of the film, there is a 1 frame flicker where you can see Metroman appear on the screen behind Megamind.
I LOVE MEGAMIND it makes me sad that so many people haven’t seen it! Not my favorite movie but definitely in my top ten
I love this movie. I'm glad more people are watching it
24:20 “What is it with animation and those hips?”
Roxanna: “Can we focus”
😂😂
4:14 - how, in all my viewings of this movie, had I never noticed the balloon man get hit!? 😂
Megamind is definitely one of the most underrated superhero films. Just because it was ahead of its time. Looking forward to seeing a TV show about on it hopefully soon.
15:20
That Cars cosplay is on point though.
17:04 Can't believe you guys missed "I'll just pack my thing and go!"
24:58 When you watch this scene as it played in the beginning of the movie again, you can actually SEE a frame where Metroman walks behind Megamind. Stellar detail!!
BTW, in Sonic 2, one of the outfits Agent Stone has for Robotnik is a Megamind outfit.
Megamind basically got a get out of jail free card for creating a homicidal metahuman and defeating him.
I am overjoyed that you guys absolutely had a blast throughout the film!
The Obama-eque poster in the background that says, "No you can't." 😂😂😂
The Queen of England joke, in hindsight, might be the most hilarious joke in any animated movie ever.
You have no idea how happy I am that y’all reacted to this :( Tysm😭😭
Hal being your typical "why doesn't she like me" Nice Guy™
If you slow the scene down a bit you can see Metroman for a single frame in the background while using his powers. Also if you put subtitles on, Titan genuinely believes his name is "Tighten" thanks to the voice Megamind was doing.
I thought he WAS named Tighten, because Megamind couldn’t get the copyright for TITAN.
Fun fact, some Skeletons used in medical schools are real skeletons, some were from people who left their bodies to science, while older Victorian or earlier ones are often made from the remains of executed prisoners IIRC.
I kinda want them to react to the DuckTales 2017 now. Going through a phase with that show now and there are so few reactions for it
Wish there were more Batman Beyond and JLU reactions. Hopefully these guys will get to it, but it’s so slow going through just BTAS one episode at a time.

Can't wait for the series on Peacock. Closest thing we get to a sequel, XD
A legendary moment in Blind Wave history
Such a genuinely good, fun movie, full llof comedic moments
This is the only Will Farrell movie I'll willingly watch. 😆 But he was excellent as Megamind.
This is a great Movie, it's just overshadowed by DESPICABLE ME, because it doesn't have cute mascots that appeal to the younger audience.
It's crazy how back in 2010 the writers wrote an incel as the bad guy and not going down the more predictable route of making Metro Man the villain
XD
I'm glad Calvin joined in on the "he looks like Markiplier" joke when he sees retired Metroman, I feel like everyone makes that connection, and I just find it fun when people do. XD
Megamind copying Metroman just makes sense, he's fought him for so long he knows his personality inside and out to know how to convince other people he's Metroman. XD Also a way to see through the watch disguise a lot of the time (I'm not sure on EVERY time) is to pay attention to the eye color.
"Is this movie about Trump?" had me rolling 🤣🤣
TDS
Well, you know, in an indirect sort of way, it kind of was (at least as a Hal surrogate).
One of the best part in this movie for me is that they didn't go for the low hanging fruit by making Metro Man a twist villain or be an asshole just to facilitate Megamind into becoming the good guy.
I hope u guys react to more old animated movies like this
