Both KFP and HTTYD trilogies are fantastic thru and thru. The main KFP show was not the best, they have made a couple netflix shorter shows recently that are solid. The first two seasons of the HTTYD show were aired on TV and are ok, but then they moved to netflix for 6 seasons and that show is very very good.
@@KenSahaja Reminds me of what Eda told Luz in the second Owl House episode. "Everyone wants to believe that they're "Chosen", but if we all waited around for a prophecy to tell us we're special, we'd all die waiting. So, that's why you need to choose yourself."
@@crystalgemgirl731 that's a really great quote. It's true though, if no one really wants to put in the work to be better people without the promise of an eternal reward, then if there was one, it wouldn't be claimed by anyone who's worthy of it. What Po gets instead in his journey was humility, he was humbled again and again, but it's what actually made him worthy. And what he has become in the end after going through that, is someone that is far more special than any power that could exist.
Spoiler for future movies…. I like to think that if you use Chi on the paper, it reveals a lesson about how to use Chi, something you already would have learned in order to read it in the first place.
It's a nice parallel to Po asking Shifu how he'll turn him into the Dragon Warrior. Shifu trained Tai Lung and the other 5 differently than he did with Po where he first had to understand him in order to train him to his best potential.
It can tug more if you see it the way I have come to see it after many rewatches. I love character analysis, so this is lengthy. Skip for anyone not that invested. Lmao At first I think we all interpret it the same way. But something that made me think of it another way was his "Tell me how proud you are" which almost came off somewhat like mocking irony. In a way, Tai Lung may have felt Shifu was fair-weather. He built him up all his life to be the DW and heaped praise on to him constantly. But when they go to face Oogway, the latter denies him being worth it and all Shifu's praise meant nothing when he didn't defend his son's honor or character by speaking on hi s behalf. So that line may have been Tai Lung accusing Shifu of using him. "Everything I did was for the sake of your pride." So he can have the glory of training the DW. A guilt of some parents that they try & groom their children for a life they weren't successful in achieving for themselves. And as a result, they inadvertently push their child's dreams & life into the background while they live vicariously through them. When Tai failed at the ONE thing he was raised for and Shifu stayed quiet, it (in Tai's mind) proved that Shifu only ever had conditional love for him. He wasn't raised to have anything else to fall back on. And his own true parents abandoned him. So Shifu not speaking up was like a 3rd parent abandoning him. It seems Tai has an Inferiority Superiority Complex. He has great pride and arrogance in his skill, but not himself - to know that he is still great without the scroll & being the DW. Look at this line when he sees his reflection in the scroll. "It's nothing" - and deep down, that may be how he sees himself when all of his parents, and his grand-master had forsaken him. He's nothing & needs that DW validation & ultimate power to prove that he's worth something. A fact pointed out by another fan years ago. Tai Lung didn't grow up wrong. He was raised wrong. Then in the end, he ws kept alive in an abusive prison to be used as a test for Po with his father figure finding peace in his death. He truly got a raw deal by Oogway & The Universe.
@@SilverWolf442 It’s a great juxtaposition that Tai Lung sees himself and sees worthlessness, and Po sees himself and sees value. It reminds me of the origin story of Saint Walker from DC comics.
@@Sombriagethinking about the parallel, Shifu was probably afraid too. In Tai Lung he found a child with great inate Talent to be the Dragon Warrior and he had years to work with Tai Lung only to fail. Now he is expected to train someone he sees as no talent, no experience, and he gets a few days maybe a few weeks to do it.
@@jonreese7066 True. Shifu had to admit he didn't know how to train Po to be the Dragon Warrior while with Tai Lung he trained him with idea of becoming worthy to be the Dragon Warrior - introducing that obsession. A lot of the movie is about control and letting it go so that destiny can unravel by itself without forceful hands trying to pull it apart by themselves.
I love the fact that Oogway could've easily defeated Tai Lung by himself. This implies that the only reason he left before Tai Lung arrived, was to teach Shifu to truly believe in Po (as he had no other choice).
Also to believe in himself as their Master. He relied to heavily in Oogway. Oogway knew the only way that Po would be trained is to force Shifu to not only believe in his master but in himself.
@@yanbr3134ion know, in the 3rd one. That's all imma say as not to spoil Eric. If he can do it there he could in the physical world. I mean bro was balancing upside down on a staff when he was introduced, the skills are there. Plus in the flashback he barely moved when he took him down before.
@@BlackGirlMarvel exactly. Oogway didn't really need any physical strength to defeat Tai Lung in the flashback, which was approximately 20 years ago. He would do it again, but then no one else would change, and they would always count on Oogway to do the heavy lifting.

Fun fact: the chinese ministry of culture watched kungfu panda when it came out and they were shocked that a western movie could be this respectfull of chinese culture and kungfu. One of the best animated movies of all time.
@@MoviesAndTvShowsAreSubjectiveAnd if I remember correctly, they were even a little mad that they couldn't make a movie about themselves as good as an American company.
@@danielm.595 they weren’t mad like in anger, that’s just the way the Minister vocalized it like “we couldn’t believe this movie came from a western country!”. KFP is so beloved there that the two sequels actually an agreement with China that resulted in a smaller team of animators responsible for doing small tweaks into the mouth movements to better match the Chinese voice actors, but despite working with a notoriously controlling government no changes to plot and characters were ever demanded.
I didn't like it as much the first time I saw it, but on rewatching it a few years later I've come to realize it's one of the best sequels ever made. The scenery, the characters, the plot are all fantastic.
ABSOLUTELY AGREE. My favourite dreamworks franchises are How to Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda, and Kung Fu Panda 2 is easily the best movie of the six.
@@ZXariaHTTYD2 is mine, but that’s because there’s an emotional element with it that attached me to that movie. My dad died just a couple years prior to it coming out. And as the oldest son who had to step up afterwards (though in my case, I feel like I failed to do so), you can see how the movie struck a cord with me
I agree I think Shen was one of the best villains he wasn’t broken he was just evil there was no redemption or tugging at the heartstrings he didn’t care he killed Po’s mother he gloated at the fact he did
@@silentdelicate2299 Shen didn't believe that his parents loved him because he thought they betrayed him when he was banished. I would say that he was broken, he had a similar motivation as Tai Lung.
The older I got, the more I realised that Tai Lung is just a tragic character. He carries the weight of expectations that were never fulfilled and he's lashing out. No one does animated villains better than DreamWorks. Would love to see you guys react to the Puss in Boots movies...especially The Last Wish
Don’t know if anyone has said this yet, but the Wuxi finger hold essentially sends whoever is unfortunate enough to be victim of it straight to the afterlife. It doesn’t kill them, it skips the death part and shortcuts them straight to the afterlife part
This movie does so many things right. The characters, their development, the fight choreography, the lessons, how well it depicts ancient China, it's all so great. One part I really like, and often see overlooked, is how after Po lays out his insecurities to Shifu, we see that Tigress heard the whole thing and finally started to soften up and feel sorry for him, and realized he was actually taking Kung Fu seriously, not "treating it like a joke" as she previously stated.
I rewatched this recently as an adult and bawled my eyes out. I didn't realize how badly my fat, self-loathing self needed a hero who wasn't just strong in spite of their appearance, but BECAUSE of it. It actually had me excited to go back to the gym, not to "change" myself, but to bring out the best parts of myself rather than always focusing on those parts of me I hate.
My sister decided this year to get her physical health under control. She discovered a treatment for her thyroid disorder that works for her and she began exercising and treating her caloric intake as a budget, so she still eats ice cream and enjoys sweets and foods she loves, but she’s lost 95 pounds in the last 6 months. It’s been an amazing transformation and she looks and feels so much better. It’s all about the mentality you have when you start. She also learned from a coaching thing she uses that the first 10 minutes of exercise are the hardest and when you’re most likely to give up, so she keeps that in mind when exercising, just get past the first 10 minutes and she can keep going and things get easier. I’m going to subscribe to her mentality. Going for that goal of improving yourself and loving yourself is an amazing thing. I wish you luck on your journey.
It's not completely apparent why just from the films, but is still one of my favourite things, Mantis and Viper are allot nicer to Poe because they know what it is like to have people think less of them based on physical attributes. Mantis, as he hints towards, because of his size, and Viper (I believe this is only mentioned in a random series episode or short or something) was born without fangs, her father was actually famous for his "Deadly-Fang Style" which she wasn't able to use, so she developed her own style based on ribbon dancing, gave me a little chuckle when Eric mentioned biting and poisoning Tai-Lung.
This movie has so many great moments and messages, but my favorite has to be the "I'm not Hungry" line, it has a few layers to it. Po eats when he's upset and he's gone past that, he may not even be hungry, but the biggest thing is that the dumpling was all a test of what he's learned, and "when you're done training you may eat" saying he's not hungry shows he still wants to learn and grow "when the student is ready, the teacher appears". And if you close yourself off in one mindset you'll never truly grow and learn from other sources and others, whether in kung fu, cooking, or any other examples in life
I love the answers to seeing the scroll, Po says it's blank but Tai Lung says it's nothing. The blank page can become anything as can Po. Tai Lung sees nothing, emptiness just as Master Oogway said according to Tigress.
What Eric said about wanting more Ugwe, this goes to show how solid the storytelling is. Cause in that moment, Eric is feeling "But wait, Ugwe can't go! I want so much more!" And in that moment the audience is feeling exactly what Shifu is feeling, because he is thinking the same thing. It's an incredible piece of storytelling
"Who drove me to train until my bones cracked?!" Point. Shifu basically brainwashed Tai-Lung into believing it was his destiny, only to quietly back down when Oogway (rightfully) said no. I'm with Tai-Lung on this one: Shifu made him being the dragon warrior his only purpose in life, taking extreme measures to achieve it, and then left him with nothing. I'd be devastated too to find out everything I've work so hard for my whole life amounted to zilch.
And then proceed to so desperately try to make it true. To forcefully take what he was raised to believe was his right. To prove that Shifu was right, that his life as Shifu's student wasn't a waste. That Oogway is wrong and that his father figure was correct no matter what.
May be but reacting with violence against the entire village may not be the right response dont you think? What is left unsaid is event if Oogway gave him the scroll he wouldn’t have understood the point. He would have reacted violently anyway. Your right Shifu made mistake but at that point even if Tai Lung got the scroll. Things would have ended up exactly the same?
@jonreese7066 It may not be the right response, but at the same time it would literally be the only response Tai Lung would do. The guy was raised up purely to be a machine of kung fu from an early age by Shifu. It is all he knew. All that he was good at. In a rough situation he did the one thing he was good at, act out in violence.
@@Blitzvonic Like another person said in another vid. Po wanted to try Kung Fu, but if he failed, he had friends, his dad's love, and noodles. When he thinks he failed, his dad offers comfort. Tai Lung had Kung Fu and Shifu. That was it. HIs real parents abandoned him. And if LoA is canon, then his family only gave him away & kept his sibling. Then Oogway denies him the scroll with no explanation, and Tai looks to Shifu who also turned his back on him. That's a 3rd parent abandoning him. Leaving him with truly nothing to fall back on. And the flashbacks have some details missing. Did Tai Lung get rejected, go all the way down those stairs to cause a massacre, then go all the way back up them to take the scroll? Seems odd to say the least. lol A theory I have is that he tried to deal with it, and someone in the valley said something that set him off. We've seen the Valley does have its share of jerks. Like the 3rd film where 3 geese mocked Po and called him a loser just because he failed at ONE task he had never done before. Not hard to believe 1 person ()if not a few) took the piss out of Tai Lung when he went up there & got rejected.
The quality of several of the Dreamworks Villains and especially of this trilogy is incredible, Tai Lung still seems great to me, he has a presence, a reason, excellent fights, he works very well
People have said Shifu and Tai Lung are basically Obi Wan and Anakin. I really see it so well that I wished the prequels have such well written dialogue like KFP has.
I'm actually so happy with all these movies they're doing. How to Train Your Dragon, The Emperor's New Groove, Kung Fu Panda. It's awesome. I hope they continue doing these animated movies and their sequels. Kung Fu Panda 2 is amazing
The fourth one is meant to feature of chameleon as the bad guy you can camouflage into all the bad guys of previous films and po hand passing on the dragon warrior mantle
One of the fun messages is that Master Shifu is also a Panda. A Red Panda quite different from Poe, but in a way they should have an understanding of each other and a similar "ness".
Zhen:"The Dragon Warrior and I have a deal. Mind your own business, Squirrel!"Po:"Master Shifu is not a Squirrel."Master Shifu:"I'm a Red Panda."Zhen:"You know what? I love that for you."
I love that unlike other “chosen one” heroes, Po doesn’t really have a super power other than being hungry and kinda chubby 😅 He’s so amazing as a protagonist
He's very resilient (goes with the flow and takes hits extremely well, both physically and emotionally) and clever, combine that with his passion (for Kung Fu) and you have a relatable and/or inspirational hero!
My parents aren't into animation all that much (they're retired) but they absolutely loved this movie when I showed it to them and it got them to try out other recent animated movies. Great fun for all ages.
@@cliffturbo2146 It's not a bad thing to like animated movies as you get older. These movies being "just for kids" is just something immature or ignorant people say
This entire movie is phenomenal, Jack Black is the perfect fit for Po. Randall Duk Kim absolutely kills it as Oogway, everything out of his mouth is either a superb life lesson or hilarious. Every shot in this movie is a beautiful painting you can hang on your wall. The themes play out beautifully, Oogway says: "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it." and everything the guards do only aid Tai Lung's escape, Shifu's acceptance of his own failures and of Po as the Dragon Warrior, while Po comes into his own as a Master, utilising his natural Panda parts to defeat Tai Lung.
Fun fact: during the five vs tai lung, each (except mantis, since we dont know) did the thing that shifu told them they needed more of. Tigress was all offense (ferocity) monkey quickly got into fight (speed) crane flew throughout the entire fight (height) viper did a lot of sneak attacks (subtlety) I can assume mantis was probably strength since he entirely held that bridge himself and did the rope flick, for a bug that's impressive.
I don't know why but the first time I watched this movie it didn't click for me that Po was adopted 😅 I was like "yeah, he's a panda, ok the goose is his father, yes, absolutely, I believe this" 😂 this is an amazing trilogy, I hope you watch the other two😊
27:05 love the complete lack of reaction from Shifu when Po tries juking right before heading left. It’s the small details that help reinforce the idea of the kung fu master without interrupting the story
You cut it out but one of my favorite moments in this movie is when Shifu and Po are fighting with chopsticks and Shifu kicks the dumpling away, Po chases after it and Shifu has the biggest smile on his face in the whole movie
I love it. You can see him smiling the whole time he's training Poe, because it's something new, unique, and for him, fun. He's not just going through the motions again.
I just realized that Pos first moment of kung fu training with the dummy that he hit, that rebounded and hit him back was forshadowing the fighting style Po would develot at the end of the movie! SO GOOD!
What makes Po such a good fighter is 2 things 1. Hes REALLY tough. He can take a LOT of punishment and get back up. And 2. Hes really good at improvising. Everything Tai lung threw at him, he found a way to counter it almost instantly.
It is actually insane how talented Po is at martial arts. Like getting that desire and self confidence in, he is a martial arts genius when his ADHD kicks in and focuses on something. Throughout all the series he just learns everything in days or weeks.
EDIT: At 31:39 Master Shifu looks straight into my soul I can't unsee it lmao Mr. Ping is my fav character in the whole trilogy. So wholesome and a great Dad to Po.❤ And it was thanks to his noodle lesson that Po realized the message of the Scroll. ERIC YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE THE SEQUELLLLL it’s my fav in the trilogy but all 3 are solid movies. Also Tai Lung is a snow leopard if you havent looked it up yet lol and Shifu is a red panda.😄
"gotta admit, i love that art style so much, i want it to continue!" fun fact about the opening dream sequence, that was produced by James Baxter. those not in the know, he's a long time animator that's worked with Disney Movies, Dreamworks movies, and brought on as guest animator for a number of animated series (Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, etc.)
The main reason why po defeated tai lung was that po fighting style was random and tai lung use to analyse the fighting styles of others, thats how he learned the nerve punch from oogway, so he was confused on how po's fighting style was, what made him think that the dragon scroll gave him powers. So good.
It’s because Po didn’t use any Kung Fu method, he fighting in his own way…well mostly annoy the s*** out of Tai Lung. He did used a bit of Kung Fu near the end but it’s more like his own style
I have to tell you: the scene where Tai Lung talks to Shifu is actually better in the Spanish dub. You can actually hear Tai Lung's voice breaking when he says "Tell me you're proud, Shifu"
Never seen video about it, but i really think that the most sad thing in this film it's Tai-Lung's tragedy: Just think about it. He was trained his whole life in some kind of martial arts cult (think of it again: kung-fu masters are demigods here and unbreakable authorities, especially Ugwei who is someone like a prophet), Shi-Fu gave him nothing except his fighting skills and determination to be a best for his father (for ego as well, but mostly for Shi-Fu). And what happened after tens of years of bloody trainings with no excuses? Crazy old turtle saw something bad in his heart (actually, what? Rage? Aggression? Pride? Ambition? Never told about it. And I don't believe that Tai-Lung wouldn't try to achieve some sort of inner piece if he was told to reach that goal to eradicate that darkness from his heart and become a true Dragon Warrior. Actually, I think that the first thing masters should tell their students) and destroy his whole life like nothing. I believe that Tai-Lung could handle it, but only with support from his father - the only one and the most important person in his whole life. But Shi-Fu betray him as well and the whole world around Tai-Lung was okay with that shit. P.S. The whole fight beetwen Tai-Lung and Po was complietly screwed up. As we see in this movie and in the sequel as well, Po didn't reach his limits and in some cases was weaker then Tigress or Shi-Fu. At the same time, Tai-Lung is an ultimate war-machine, who can be stopped only by Ugwei.
Tai-Lung lost because he kept trying to use overwhelming force on an enemy who could absorb almost any blows. By the end of the fight he was practically falling over from Po turning his own blows against him. Tai-lung defeated himself.
For me Tai-Lung's ending writing is so bad. After Tai finally opened the scroll, the writers immediately killed his character. He was then written like a stereotypical villain manchild "boohoo I can't have what I want so I'm gonna throw a tantrum". In a perfect world, Tai Lung would be stunned and talk a lot about his dreams being crushed, his plans after this, and THEN he can fight Po as a final stand to test if there really is a dragon warrior. Tell me if I'm wrong.
@@cry9438I mean it's consistent with his character. He always reacts in violence when he doesn't get his way. He took it out on the village, and then tried to take it out on Po.
KFP is a classic example of having an idea and truly taking it seriously. They could've just made a goofy movie about a panda learning Kung Fu, but it has such heart, sincerity and love of its roots that it transcends merely being a good movie and instead becomes a classic piece of animation. Funny, clever and most of all entertaining.
I forgot just how good this movie is wow. I always loved it and cherished it but this has aged beautifully, Dreamworks is the most consistent animation studio in my opinion. Even with all of Pixar's hits they haven't been as good lately. While Dreamworks just made the Puss in Boots movie that was incredible.
Po:"The Dagger of Dang-wa. You've got excellent taste, I'll give you that."(Zhen steps off from the Pillar, and faces Po.)Po:"But I can't give you that, give it back."Zhen:"If you insist."Me:'42:40'(Zhen throws the Dagger at Po, and he twirls it above himself. He winks at his reflection, and slams the Dagger on the Floor.)
Please watch the second movie! While it maintains its goofy fun animation moments, the story gets so much more deeper and darker, with one of -if not THE best written animated villain ever
56:30 Something I liked about Po's fights with Tai Lung and Matter Shifu was the bowl shuffling scene and how both Po and Tai Lung interacted with it. Po played within the constraints of the game. He could have knocked all the bowls over, but he didn't. He picked one at random, and got it right. Tai Lung, on the other hand, didn't even *try* to fight "fairly" when Po started the wok shuffle-his immediate response was violent and angry. That is why Po is the Dragon Warrior, and Tai Lung is not. It's not so much a need for "Peace" or "Calm", but for comfort in who you are. Tai Lung would never have accepted that "just me" was "good enough". He *_needed_* the Dragon Warrior title to come with secret techniques, powerful skills, and abilities without compare, because he needed to be perfect-he needed to be *more.* Po is Po. He's happy with himself. He's not always perfect, and he's okay with that. Also, wacky character defeats strong battle-hardened warrior with cartoon logic-did I just describe Po, or Luffy?
4:57 James Hong, who voices Mr. Ping in all 3 movies, did this bit about Mr. Ping wanting to run away and learn to make tofu when he was young because James Hong's family really DID own and run a tofu shop! And I think in the second movie, you can see Mr. Ping has started to include tofu in the dishes he cooks and serves at the restaurant, so he's finally reached his dream!
So glad you guys like this movie! It's clear how much work and love they put into this movie and its world. I know I'm going to be a parrot repeating what everyone else says, but if you get the chance, I encourage you guys to watch the second Kung Fu Panda. It surprisingly surpasses the first in pretty much every way, and is definitely one of Dreamworks best.
The final fight between Po and Tai Lung is one of my top three fights in any film, along with the fanny pack fight in Everything Everywhere and the dog fight in John Wick 3.
There are so many good actors in this. And I can't believe that James Hong (who played Po's father) also had a voice acting in Diablo 3 after that 😊. He turned to be a great voice actor as well, besides his stellar acting career. Can't wait to see the 2nd movie reaction. 👍
There are so many points of great praise in this movie, but one that I particularly like is how perfectly modelled the characters are to real life kung fu forms. Each member of the five is an animal directly corresponding with a particular style of king fu, with Po using the rarest 6th style known as dragon style. Tai lung’s fighting is the same ‘tiger-style’ identical to tigress, but with far greater ferocity and tactical environmental use. Shifu uses a mix of all 6 styles throughout as he is the teacher, and Oogway just uses super advanced chi techniques which are beyond any style, showing just how removed he is in power from the others at this point. Really shows how much research and thought went into the film and it paid off.
This is personally my favorite trilogy of all time, though the first two do most of the heavy lifting. I tear up every time with that scene between shifu and Po, and he is asking how gonna turn him into the dragon warrior because I know exactly what po feels.
This movie takes me straight back to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the attention to detail is unreal especially in the fight choreography actually incorporating real Kung-Fu styles like Tiger, Monkey, Leopard, Crane etc Just all the jade, the colors, the music. It feels sm like China and it was back in a time when China was probably the most open it ever was to outside countries
This movie was one of the best cinema going experiences of my life. I saw it with a friend for free in IMAX and both of us were high as hell. The chopstick fight is epic.
What I love about the bridge fight is it shows the Five are a force to be reckoned with. Instead of these life-long martial artists being overshadowed buy one guy with a week's training, they get their moment to shine and show us just how strong they really are. I also love that even with all the training, it was Po's father's "There is no secret ingredient" which pushed him that final step.
It is very wishi washi and in any case it would still be less time but the movie gives no indication of how much time it took for Po to train. It could have 1 week, I could have been 3 months
The Kung Fu Panda trilogy is my favorite trilogy from DreamWorks. KFP2 is my favorite of the three, but I gotta pay respect to the first film for being a fantastic first outing. Hope you guys get around to the sequels soon.
Mine too. Their other trilogies all have that one film which is not as good as the others. Madagascar 1, Shrek 3, HTTYD 3. I'd say Kung Fu Panda 3 isn't as good as the first 2 but it's still good enough that the whole trilogy is pretty solid
@@joevictor53 Yeah, KFP3 is the weakest of the trilogy, imo, but is still a fun movie with a solid message to wrap up the trilogy. Honestly, I'm curious where they're gonna go with KFP4 whenever that releases.
KFP is a perfect movie. The characters, the voice acting, the plotting, the dialog, the humor. There's no dead space, nothing that needs to be cut or added.
I have been waiting for Blindwave, and especially Eric, to watch the Kung Fu Panda trilogy for years. So this reaction basically made my day. These movies are great, and can't wait to see you guys react to the rest!
FYI: Turtle or Tortoise is actually consider a martial animal. The tortoise entwine with a snake is call the Xuan Wu. Is basically one of the 4 major mystical creature and also the animal companion of a martial god most associated with Wudang. The snake is speed, agility and offence while the Tortoise is slow, immovable pure perfect defense. Together they represent the yin and yang.
Makes sense even with ancient Rome, the snake would be a skilled gladiator putting his sword through you in seconds and the turtle the group with shields wearing you down.

I have finally realized what the conversation about 'control' is about; Teaching. "I cannot make it blossom when it suits me, or make it bear fruit before its time." Oogway is talking about how you can't make someone learn at your pace, only their own. "I can control when the fruit will fall. And I can control where to plant the seed!" Shifu counters by saying he decides when and how his students learn. And while he is mostly right, one peach (Po) disobeys and falls on his head. "But no matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple or an orange, but you will get a peach." And Oogway ends by telling Shifu that people don't change at their core. Tai-Lung was always going to have darkness in him, even if Shifu unknowingly cultivated it, and Po was always going to have a kind heart.
"To take your opponent's weakness and use it against him" Tai Lung was obsessed with the Dragon Scroll. That's the thing he desired the most. Po used it not only to make a fool out of Tai Lung but also, making Tai Lung trying to take it from Po, tired him out enough to beat him. Also, Po being fat was seen by everyone as a weakness, but is what prevented him from being affected by Tai Lung's nerve attack.
With lots of reactions that I’ve seen to Kung Fu Panda, I usually reference Jack Burke from the RUclips character art channel Subjectively, and how his video on Humans vs. Non-Human characters uses Kung Fu Panda to exemplify physical and conceptual themes of what makes someone special via the Furious 5 being animals. It makes the training that Shifu puts Po through more potent and have broader appeal compared to if they were just humans. That’s the beauty of animation being able to discuss these topics substantially better that most live-action pieces.(Highly recommend checking Subjectively; great character artwork lessons and lots of League of Legends and Pokemon related stuff too)
Tai Lung is one of my favorite animated villains ever. I really enjoy the villains whose motivations you can understand and even relate to. He was the “bad guy,” but it’s not entirely his fault. His entire life he was trained to be the best and taught to think that it was his destiny to become the Dragon Warrior. Shifu practically groomed him for the role. He put him through hellish training, all of which Tai Lung endured because that’s what he was supposed to do. All he wanted was to make the man he viewed as his father proud. Even Shifu thought Tai Lung was gonna be the Dragon Warrior. All that changed when Oogway denied him that. Oogway obviously saw the dark streak inside him and knew he was unfit. But Tai Lung at that point didn’t understand, how would you expect someone to react to being THIS close to achieving something they’ve worked their entire life for, just for someone to come in at the last second and say they’ll never be good enough for it? Obviously he wasn’t gonna just accept it and move on, at that point they pretty much told him that his entire life and everything he worked for was for nothing. He was angry and bitter, understandably so. He’s not cartoonishly evil and that’s what I love about him. The whole “Fallen Chosen One/Star Pupil” schtick he has really reminds me of Anakin Skywalker in a way.

The message of this movie always sticks with me, "There is no secret ingredient, it's just you." So simple, yet so powerful.
The fact that who you are and the process you put into becoming worthy to earn a special gift is what's special, not the gift itself.
Spiderman into the spideverse< Great movie:)
Tai Lung's line, "All I ever did, I did to make you proud! Tell me how proud you are, Shifu! Tell me! Tell meeeeeee!" always tugs on my heartstrings.
Lmao
At first I think we all interpret it the same way.
@@SilverWolf442
It’s a great juxtaposition that Tai Lung sees himself and sees worthlessness, and Po sees himself and sees value.
Dont think so, oogway was not only not in his prime but also like a 100yr old human. He couldn’t fight like before anymore

@@BlackGirlMarvel that's a nice addition
@@BlackGirlMarvel exactly. Oogway didn't really need any physical strength to defeat Tai Lung in the flashback, which was approximately 20 years ago. He would do it again, but then no one else would change, and they would always count on Oogway to do the heavy lifting.
The line “one often meets his destiny on the path he takes to avoid it” that oogway said is a huge reoccurring theme in the series.

Damn Bruh! u Inspiring Me Right Now
Yeah Po's weakness is actually a strength. It's all about perception and about believing in yourself. It's such a beautiful movie.
I’m inspired by reading this,
It's not completely apparent why just from the films, but is still one of my favourite things, Mantis and Viper are allot nicer to Poe because they know what it is like to have people think less of them based on physical attributes.
😍that is sooo cool. Love this movie. Great take
I made that Viper connection as well, but I totally agree with you on the ther stuff.
The way you spell Oogway 😂
2:43
"Who drove me to train until my bones cracked?!"
Point.
@@Blitzvonic Wonderfully said.
Seems odd to say the least. lol
A theory I have is that he tried to deal with it, and someone in the valley said something that set him off. We've seen the Valley does have its share of jerks. Like the 3rd film where 3 geese mocked Po and called him a loser just because he failed at ONE task he had never done before. Not hard to believe 1 person ()if not a few) took the piss out of Tai Lung when he went up there & got rejected.

fun fact about the opening dream sequence, that was produced by James Baxter. those not in the know, he's a long time animator that's worked with Disney Movies, Dreamworks movies, and brought on as guest animator for a number of animated series (Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, etc.)
The main reason why po defeated tai lung was that po fighting style was random and tai lung use to analyse the fighting styles of others, thats how he learned the nerve punch from oogway, so he was confused on how po's fighting style was, what made him think that the dragon scroll gave him powers. So good.
Tai Lung: the scroll is giving him power….NOOOOOOOOOO
Po: no, my cookie bruh
It’s because Po didn’t use any Kung Fu method, he fighting in his own way…well mostly annoy the s*** out of Tai Lung. He did used a bit of Kung Fu near the end but it’s more like his own style
I have to tell you: the scene where Tai Lung talks to Shifu is actually better in the Spanish dub. You can actually hear Tai Lung's voice breaking when he says "Tell me you're proud, Shifu"
Never seen video about it, but i really think that the most sad thing in this film it's Tai-Lung's tragedy:
Just think about it.
And Po was the perfect counter
I love Eric’s reaction when Oogway turns into petals 😂

I forgot just how good this movie is wow. I always loved it and cherished it but this has aged beautifully, Dreamworks is the most consistent animation studio in my opinion. Even with all of Pixar's hits they haven't been as good lately. While Dreamworks just made the Puss in Boots movie that was incredible.
I mean, DreamWorks has made some stinkers too
I love the face Po makes when Tai Lung calls him fat. 😆

He *_needed_* the Dragon Warrior title to come with secret techniques, powerful skills, and abilities without compare, because he needed to be perfect-he needed to be *more.*
Po is Po.
I am SO HAPPY you guys watched this!! Please do kung fu panda 2!
Mephiles:"44:02"
This is personally my favorite trilogy of all time, though the first two do most of the heavy lifting. I tear up every time with that scene between shifu and Po, and he is asking how gonna turn him into the dragon warrior because I know exactly what po feels.
ERICCCCC YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE KUNG FU PANDA 2. THE BEST IN THE TRILOGY AND AMONG THE GREATEST FILMS OF ALL TIME.
Nick Fury:"42:30"Riot:"42:33"
10:48 Po's "I LOVE KUNG-FUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuu....." is followed by the score dropping dejectedly as he realizes he's not taking off lollll
First "The Emperor's New Groove", now the "Kung Fu Panda" films?!? This is amazing, I'm so happy to relive this with yall!
Love me some Kung Fu Panda... I hope Kung Fu Panda 2 reaction is coming soon.
This movie takes me straight back to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the attention to detail is unreal especially in the fight choreography actually incorporating real Kung-Fu styles like Tiger, Monkey, Leopard, Crane etc
Just all the jade, the colors, the music. It feels sm like China and it was back in a time when China was probably the most open it ever was to outside countries
You should definitely watch the whole trilogy as well as the Super Mario Bros. Movie. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is also pure art.
The fight scene between Shifu and Tai Lung is honestly one of my favorite moments ever in an animated movie.
@@wolfpack_104 I would say that the ending of KFP 3 is strong with its message on family.
Agree 100% , it goes KFP2 > KFP1 > KFP3. Both in movie quality and villains
The thumbnail made me smile so hard and I'm so happy Eric hasn't watched it. i already know he'll love it or at least enjoy it 😂 i love their smiles
Fun fact, when it comes to recognizable techniques, Po actually uses Dragon-style Kung-fu
43:41;Chameleon(Mashed w/Tai Lung)(Disoriented):"I'm stronger than ever opponent you ever faced, because *I AM EVERY OPPONENT YOU EVER FACED!!!* "
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps Even more fascinating is that the Roman Yin Yang symbol predates China's
@@patrickchang9135 That is fascinating. Is it visually identical or is it a similar take on the concept?
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps Visually identical. I learned of it from the Vsauce video, "What's the Brightest Thing in the Universe?". Not sure on the spelling, but the symbol is called a Taijitu
@@patrickchang9135 Interesting.
One often meets their destiny on the road they take to avoid it
I love that quote
One of my favorite things about this Silly Panda movie is that if you take the themes of each movie you get a pretty in depth look at Buddhist Philosophy.
If they love this can’t wait for the sequels!!!!! Eric will be in tears
8:34 😂😂😂😂"Don't introduce him that way."🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love how much Eric loves this movie
Y'all have to watch the next two now, love seeing Eric's reaction to this
I just rewatched this the other day, one of my favourite childhood memories, great timing
now they need to watch both sequels too 😭🤞🏻
Yes do the sequals soon please and while you're at it do the Puss in Boots films soon lol 😎.
This film is indeed beautifully animated, has fun action, some well-paced storytelling, great music, a lot of heart, and a great balance of comedy and drama. One of the best film franchises out there 😎.
I need Eric's reaction to all of the movies in this series. Loved the passion for the movies, and I think he'll find that the sequels are actually very, very good!
I hope yall do the 2nd one. I cry at the end every time
I have finally realized what the conversation about 'control' is about; Teaching.
Yes, more Kung Fu Panda please! This trilogy is amazing!
"To take your opponent's weakness and use it against him"
Tai Lung was obsessed with the Dragon Scroll.
Eric's reactions right through are just delightful. This was just a lovely time, thank you for sharing it with us :)
