I absolutely loved Spot because he’s the first “scientist turned into a monster during experiment gone wrong” character who actually ACTS like a scientist.
He’s constantly experimenting and picking apart the broader applications of his powers over the course of the movie. And unlike every other supervillain (who usually just tolerates having a kryptonite) when he realises he can run out of holes, he quickly brainstorms a way to get rid of the weakness by recreating the accident that transformed him on a much larger scale. He's far from the joke everyone sees him as.

I dunno if I'd go that far. Most characters tend to have to learn how to use their abilities, either through coordinated practice or happy accidents. It's an old hat to have someone fuck around with their powers and see what they can do. That's not particularly scientist-esque, it's just the nature of storytelling.

I enjoy the fact he was basically a joke villain in the comics and he was made into a far, FAR more dangerous threat. Like Pockadot Man from Suicide Squad, I enjoy when writers take a weak, lame, forgettable, jokey character from the comics and twist them into something that is legitimately sad, heartfelt, thought provoking, memorable or just plain cool, character.

I like how his traumatic past is very clearly influencing his personality for the worst.

Sun-Spider isn't paralyzed! She has a genetic condition called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (just like me, and the creator of the character 🥰), which is a connective tissue disorder that affects essentially the glue that holds your body together. One of the things it causes is hypermobility, which I'm sure comes in handy as a Spiderperson, but it also causes a lot of pain and mobility problems, which is why Sun-Spider uses a wheelchair and crutches :) It was so cool to hear you guys talk about Sun-Spider because she means so much to me, I never dreamed of seeing a Spiderperson onscreen using the same crutches I do. So the death of uncle arron is just one of Miles' canon events as is Jeff's death. They're two of Miles' canon events. He will have more after and may have even had one or two in between.
Confirmed Canon events from this movie:
The spider-person gains their powers from an incident with a spider. (typically a spider bite but Peni and Spider-ham shows theres room for variation)
Death of a closed loved one (typically a family member) to teach the spider-person a lesson of responsibility.
Upside down kiss with a love interest.
Spider-person Bonds with an alien symbiote.
Death of a police captain close to the spider-person.
Spider person temporarily quits and leaves their suit in the garbage.
Spider-person is trapped under rubble and lifts it off themselves in a feat of strength and willpower.
    Spider-person gets married.
Spider-person is buried alive by a villain and crawls out of their grave.
Death of love interest (assumed, heavily implied by Gwen)

2099 and spider-woman also show variation on the spider bite (assuming this spider-woman has the same origin as the comics one). Both of them got their powers by experiments with spider cells, not an actual bite.

I like the added detail at 53:49, when Miguel calls Miles the "original Anomaly", his glitching has him briefly wearing the old store-bought costume he wore in the first film, showing how the accusation actually cuts him very deeply and digs into his old fears of being spider-man's inadequate replacement. It makes it even more awesome when he then proceeds to shrug off the fear with his rebuttal to Miguel's face, a guy who is literally pinning him down and giving voice to Miles' self-doubts straight at him where he can't run away from them like he did before....so he doesn't. Like he does when Hobbie is subtly encouraging him during their talking whilst en-route to meet miguel, he confronts the obstacle head-on and pushes through it, his own way.

Preston recreated the trailer of Across the Spider-verse and they hired him to do a sequence but only realized he was 14 after 😂
p.s. Calvin, how can you look at Jack Quaid smile and not realize that he’s the son of Dennis (& Meg), not Randy? ❤

This is one of the best movie I've ever watched. Every single frame is like an artwork, the jokes and memes are funny, the colors are amazingly vibrant, the music great as usual. I felt almost enraged watching it (and Into the Spider Verse), like how can a movie be so so incredibly creative animation-wise??? Can't wait for Beyond!

I really wish they would. I love how that show handled the symbiote arc, the villains origins, & the love interests.
The Green Goblin story was great & it sucks it ended on a cliffhanger. I wish it got a 3rd season featuring Scorpion, Hobgoblin, Morbius, Mr. Negative, & Carnage.
The Spectacular Spider-Man honestly may be in my Top 3 superhero animated shows right under Invincible & Batman: The Animated Series.
Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, X-Men: TAS, TMNT (2003), & the rest of the DCAU cartoons are all amazing too.

If you notice in the first movie when Miles' spidey sense goes off, it goes from purple/green to the red and blue. So he was meant to be The Prowler originally

    Yes, Eric, Yes.
So much upon several re-watches of this movie, it's crazy. So, someone pointed out to me that Earth 42 Miles was supposed to be bit while he was at school (You can see the back of his braids during Spot's exposition) while our Miles was bit while he was blowing off his school work to do a graffiti piece with Aaron. Miles-Prowler was a good kid who went bad and Spider-Miles was a troubled kid gone good. Further more, in the first movie when Miles met his version of Spider-Man, and their Spidey Senses interacted with each other, the visual of Mile's senses were green and purple (Prowler's colors) but changed to red and blue to symbolize his destiny changing course. And because the writers are insane, Mile's is wearing a blue down jacket with a red hoodie at his father's party. When he ends up in Earth 42, he puts on a green down jacket with a purple hoodie, a subtle foreshadow of who he is that universe.

I think Across the Spiderverse probably has the one cliffhanger where I was SO excited and hyped up for what was next....that I wasn't even mad about it being a cliffhanger. It was just so well done that I couldn't even be mad 😂

I love the meta commentary with the penguin. "Go easy on the penguin" becomes "Go easy on the Peng Gwen" (a version of Gwen). So really he's saying to go easy on herself 😭

Definitely delivered all the hype that I had after the first movie. I saw it twice already, which is very rare for me, as I prefer to wait at least two years before rewatching movies. However, I had my first time ever trip to the US in June (and from my country it's a 10 hours trip) and when I came back in September, the whole flight was very quick due to the rewatch of not only Across the Spider-Verse, but also Guardians of The Galaxy vol. 3 (also my 2nd time watching) and HBO's The Last of Us (my favourite video game and again, 2nd time watching). My top 3 things that I've watched this year, simply perfect. And it's so beautiful that I had to buy my first ever art-book (not counting art books from collector's editions of video games) for freakin 40 bucks. Worth every cent

The Spot is an oddly personal villain to me. The way he talks, his mannerisms, even the way he just stands are all almost identical to me, and this is a villain I’ve wanted to see for a major adaptation for at least a year, probably more. Easily one of my all time favorite characters now

because he was just a normal guy and proceeds to be fairly normal for most of his screentime. He just wanted to at least be acknowledged by the guy that ruined his life, he didn't even seem to care about revenge until Miles ignored him and to quote Spot, "was being very rude"

"What's important is not standing by while allowing someone to suffer or die because you do nothing if you don't get that, then you don't know the first thing about being spider-man."
    -Spider-man edge of time
I kid you not this quote came to my head during the "intervention" scene and as a long-time spider-man fan, it made the experience of watching this movie in theaters much more epic

Such an amazing film and you can feel the effort that went into making this a worthy sequel, not just "more of the same". I think what's great on a meta level about this story is that Miguel's rejection of Miles as a Spider-Man (and being "the original anomaly") echoes the initial rejection of Miles by some toxic fans when he was first introduced in Ultimate Spider-Man.
I also have my own theories about how they will resolve the "breaking of canon" in the third movie, but I don't want to jinx it just in case I'm right!
