The relationship of Megamind and Metroman is like Batman and Joker. They're the nemesis of each other, but at the same time ironically they are actually the ones who understands the other party the most. They are the closest thing to a friend to each other.
@@saiyanobe23g6 Their relationship parodies both, honestly, minus _either party_ having a life outside of the cape. Both of them being from doomed planets knocks on Superman directly, while Megamind doing his antics _effectively_ for any attention whatsoever is on Joker. There being no “actual” malice between them, whatsoever, is where they go their own direction.
MetroMan is a really complex character, and it’s really easy to miss that fact. Like, from how he acts towards MegaMind after they find him in his fortress, it’s obvious that he knows that their entire good guy/bad guy thing was all an act, and that MegaMind only acted that way because of how he and everyone else treated the poor blue boy when they were kids. He knew it was all an act. But he also knew that he was the only one who knew that, and the only way to show that to everyone else, was to stop playing their game. But how could he stop playing the game? As far as everyone else knew, MegaMind was a legitimate threat. How could he, the hero, not save them from MegaMind? So, he decided the only logical conclusion was to fake his own death, and force MegaMind to come to terms with how it was all just a game that neither of them were ever going to win, and to change for the better. You can see how MetroMan really just means well, despite the act he puts on at the start, by how he goes to congratulate MegaMind becoming a hero, and how he chooses to pursue music as his new career, as music is clearly one of the few things his powers can’t help him be great at.
And its set up from the start: "I often ask myself, who would I be without you?" That doesn't mean "I'm nothing without you", but rather "I can't be me, when I'm busy being what you need." It's a surprisingly deep movie, considering the wacky humor and cartoon aesthetic.
In the scene where MegaMind goes up to Roxanne in the rain, and says “I can explain!”, the camera pans after he says that, to reveal one of his “No you can’t” posters.
Friendly reminder that there's no such thing as general intelligence. Megamind being a genius with robotics and being terrible with words and relationships are completely compatible facts.
This movie was overshadowed by Despicable Me, which had a lot of the same premises: a bad guy who was actually a decent person, the bad guy begins to let his true nature show due to love, even down to the fact both movies have a character named “Minion”! I always kind of preferred this movie, I like the whole “sassy super villain” trope! I mean, Hades is my favorite Disney villain for a reason! Megamind genuinely is a good person who was out casted, thus acted like a bad guy. But, when push comes to shove, will never be an actual threat to the city. It’s all a show to him, a game. This is clear when Hal kidnaps Roxanne. When Megamind does it, she has fun, she isn’t scared in the slightest. This isn’t due to the fact that she’s constantly kidnapped, but because she knows that Megamind wouldn’t actually cause her harm. It’s all an act of showmanship. But when Hal kidnaps her, she’s terrified. She knows that Hal is feeling emotional and is now bulked up with super powers, and considering where he brought her to confess, was in actual danger. Hal could’ve very well killed her there, and she knew he could. It’s why she clung to his shirt when backed against the ledge, she didn’t know if Hal would save her post rejection. Whereas Metroman and Megamind would safe her if she was ever in danger. It really brings upon the difference between a “nice” guy and a “good” guy. Nice guys are like Hal, being nice is an act to get what they want. Good guys are like Megamind (and Metroman), who have a good nature at heart and good intentions.
I think the point is that Megamind was never the villain, to him being a villain was like cosplay - because of the way he grew up, he just thought he needed to be what everyone told him he was. But he never wanted to harm anyone, when he thought he killed Metroman by accident he was shocked and sad not long after. I think its a commentary on how certain circumstances and upbringing set you up to viewed as bad even when you're not really.
@@burstig5732 i don’t know none of these people actually am just a viewer but since you seem like you know them so well in real life I would love for you to tell me 😂
Yeah I was actually about to comment that. He does that literally every reaction where he straight up acts like guessing the whole plot of the movie to its tiniest details.
The villain of this movie is just a massive incel about 11 years before they really rose to prominence. Plus everytime an evil Superman character is created it strengthens the original purpose of Superman, a man with all the power in the world yet chooses to use it for good.
That's what a lot of people fail to get about Superman being The Big Blue Boy Scout, it's a conscious choice made by Clark Kent because he wants to embrace the humanity in Superman rather than the god. The really good Superman stories, like "Superman vs the Elite" focus on this and the villain gives a Zack Snyder-like justification for the Superman portrayal in "Man of Steel." He did so a year before MoS was released. It's also the reason "My Adventures With Superman" hits so hard, it focuses on the humanity of Clark Kent rather than the persona of Superman as shown in his last confrontation with Ivo where he pushes Ivo out of the Parasite suit, instead of, punching it, an action that makes Ivo break down as he finally realises that the alien has more humanity than him, an actual human.
