In other eras in Europe /America, before 70s, most trends were supposed to be heat styled in salon independently of the nature of the hair. The only oppressed community regarding hair is black people’s hair. So stop crying thanks.

@@caij8456 yeah, I feel like overall, sticking to your natural hairtype is being encouraged, even with people on the 4 spectrum. There is a general trend towards more wavy hair on the straight end of the spectrum, the flat ironed styles from the 2000s are definitely gone. But it's not like you're gonna get shame for having just really straight hair, it's just not super fashionable and with just a bit of work put in you can usually get something resembling texture in there.

It was heated above coals until at the ideal temperature and then worked down a strand of hair kind of like a crimper. Imagine getting burned with that! I would totally overheat and burn my hair. So nice that heating elements have improved.

Sierra Maria, they call our natural curls frizzy and damaged. I came from one of those surprise makeover videos. A mom had long naturally curly hair to her waist. Stylist cut it above shoulders and flat ironed it. There was so much ignorance in the comments section. They were calling all her hair damaged. Only the very ends needed to be trimmed. The mom also needed to learn how to style her hair and do hair treatments to protect her ends.
What amazes me is that the mom said she doesn’t have time for herself. Why give her a style that looks good only straight? She won’t be flat ironing it every day.

Straight hair trend is a 2000’s trend, historically curly hair were on trend for white women a lot of times. There are way more things available now a days for curly girls than there was 100 yrs ago. We have deep conditioner, diffusers, products to maintain frizz, etc. Hell we even have brushes specifically *for* curly hair. My hair is both curly and wavy so yes they can be in the same category and I'm sure many women out there feel the same.

ok even tho they aren’t naturally curly none of the hairstyles are also the slightest bit historically accurate 😭

nice try. the 20's look had way too much volume for me - although it's somewhat accurate, finger waves were arguably far more popular. in the 1930's short hair was still more fashionable and you'd never see anyone with such limp looking hair. the 1940's look was just plain wrong - it was basically straight hair with a few rollers in, not a proper pin curl and brush-out; it should actually look curly. what you actually did for the 40's could have suited the 50's better. although i don't know much about the 1950's onwards, i know for a fact that if they're as inaccurate as the first three decades, something's wrong with your research department.

That one really wasn't accurate, especially with the modern makeup. It's still a beautiful style, though.

After years of attempting the VS waves, I finally embraced my natural curls. And, watching the VS fashion show showed me that many of the models are, too!

Apparently my curls help distract from the Great Depression.. But I'm still in it, it's not distracting.

This video has a mix of curly hair and curled hair. I wish there were two separate videos for that. Especially in the 2010's when loose beachy curls with straight ends were such a coveted hairstyle.
