Riiiight! The fifa world cup had an entire tribute during the closing ceremony in 98. If football understands his contribution how is he not mentioned here?!
Hello, I'm a French girl, and yes, Yves Saint Laurent is really present in our fashion culture. But this video is totally wrong about our fashion history. Really.
Aina Safiya the comments, mostly- lots of these are easily debunkable as fake. They claim this to be historical fashion, except they are only imitating photo shoots, which literally is NOT what people wore everyday lol
Me too and this is luxury and historical fashion everybody knows that most French people don't dress like that everyday, the reason perhaps why you haven't seen it may be because you don't care about actual fashion and designers you know
Schiaparelli was Italian not French. She was actually the nemesis of Coco Chanel. Compared to Cut’s 100 Years of French Beauty, this isn’t accurate. During the 1930s and 1940s France was affected by WWII, so their style became less luxurious in order to send fabric to the front lines.
It was in Paris that she began making her own clothes, as well as launching her house Place Vendôme. Lots of immigrants influenced and made Paris fashion.
I don't think this was accurate. First, that cloche in the 1920s looked more like british guards hat than a cloche. Second, the New Look came after the war, in the 50s it became popular. Third, the stripes were introduced by Chanel in the 20s, not in the 50s. Fourth, you didn't mention the Chanel suit in the 60s, that influenced a lot of celebrities that time, such as Jackie O. Fifth, you also didn't mention Saint Laurent famous androgynous look in the 70s, with the female smoking/tuxedo. Sixth, that crab thing in the 30s was ridiculous.
I agree with you on almost all of your points, but technically they were correct by placing the new look in the 1940's, as the fashion show where Dior presented this look for the first time was in 1947 to be exact. But the style only became popular in the 1950's, so I don't think the look represents the 40's well. And the dress they used to represent the new look was quite bad I think. way too short and clearly not worn with the proper undergarments
Ilse yes, I agree. I don't think that the New Look represents the 40s, since it appeared in the end of the decade and just became popular in the 50s. For the 40s they should've chosen a more simple garment, since during the war the clothes were simple and with less fabric.
Now the new look was a thing in france, but this is wrong simply because the new look was formed after the war. So this is displaying the entire 1940's frnech fashion.
I'm french and when I saw this video I was like " mhhh french women wore crab outfit in 1930?!" NOO and did you see 2010 outfit it looks like old fashioned kim kardashian's suit!
if you search up 1930 french fashion the picture they used is there . , . maybe they are just going off bad internet picturess? what if they do not know
Really cool, but I’d love to see like everyday looks as well! The history of high fashion is very interesting and I love that y’all include extant photos or art where possible! But I think it would also be very fun to see what normal / working class people were wearing!
Wish this would have been more accurate... You can't talk about Fashion in the country of Fashion without some researches ! WTF is this cloche hat shaped like ?? Schiaparelli wasn't only inspired by Dali, they actually worked together, she's italian, not French, and while she is a hudge reference in fashion history today, her style was totally avant-garde and really different at the time, only a few people would wore Schiaparelli's designs so it wasn't the major trend at all. 30's French fashion was for the most part more dull and classic, becaus it was a time of financial crisis, right after WWI, and with WWII starting at the end of the decade. Dior's New look was a big trend but only came out in the late 40's and was really very popular in the early 50's, because during WWII the outifts were really sober and modest, there was a big fabric penury. It was still pretty unusual for a women to wear pants in the 50's. Sure it started to be seen on some movies but most of the 50's, French fashion was all about Dior's New look, and elegant and expensive clothes. After the war, women wanted to feel more feminin and buy dresses made with a lot of fabric. This is a 60's look that was only seen in the magazines, but not that bad bc the big tren was to wear clothes inspired by Courrege, only less futuristics. The 70's was really the decade to introduce women's pants, like with Yves Saint Laurent's famous androgynous suit. Alaia was a very talented designer, but I feel like Thierry Mugler's style sum up the decade better, as it is really representative of the empowerment of the working woman in the 80's. After that this is rich pepole 90's fashion but why not.. For a more casual look, it was either minimalist or sportswear. The 2000 is accurate but kinda boring. The early 2000's were so blingbling ! It was also the decade of the cult of brands and logos.
Camille Bourasseau actually even the 2000's wasn't accurate because no woman wore those ugly high waisted skinny jeans until 2013. Also blunt cut bobs weren't a popular haircut either. That whole 2000's look was much more suited for 2010's.
Blue Water i wasn't talking about me i was talking about us french people sorry if you feel exclud that you can't have a beautiful personnality PS:no offense to anyone just this person in parrticular
Well first of all, my great great great grandma was living in france since she was born in the 1800's and all those old photos of her in the 1910's looked nothing like this. Second of all my great grandma looked nothing like that in the 1930's. 😒😔😨😤
Al tough, most of these outfits are inaccurate, they are not supposed to depict everyday normal peoples clothes. They show the newest controversial designer trends in fashion at the time.
2010s Parisian Woman you see in fashion would be like 2000s, with a pump instead of a flat, and a structured bag. This whole very inacurate, and French fashion isn't just designer. Besides some looks presented on the model look nothing like the pictures

100 years of PARIS fashion. Each region of France has a distinct culture. The culture of Lorraine (where I've lived) is NOT the culture of Provence or Bretagne.
French clothes have always stood out to any of the other clothes I wear. I begged my mom to let me get a beret and she is finally letting me get one! I think that they all stood out to me is because none of my friends or anybody I went to school with had them.
I have always lived in the United States, but I can read and write in French. All that is French is very interesting to me, which is why I clicked on this video!

Nina Yu you look so beautiful 💕

Hello, I'm a French girl, and yes, Yves Saint Laurent is really present in our fashion culture.
But this video is totally wrong about our fashion history. Really.
Yes. Le Smoking jacket or suit?
Exactly
I love how everyone in the comments is a French fashion expert 😂
I'm no expert but I don't think some of those are accurate.
Lol jahahahaha
Everyone in the comments IS french lol
Confuse which one are trusted 😂 the comment or the video
Aina Safiya the comments, mostly- lots of these are easily debunkable as fake. They claim this to be historical fashion, except they are only imitating photo shoots, which literally is NOT what people wore everyday lol
I’ve been living in France my whole life and to be honest, this really doesn’t look like French fashion.
I know right! The first few did but after 1950s they didn't look too much like our fashion
Me too and this is luxury and historical fashion everybody knows that most French people don't dress like that everyday, the reason perhaps why you haven't seen it may be because you don't care about actual fashion and designers you know
Huhu hu. You obviously do not like grammar, either.

Yeah, Dior's New Look didn't come about until 1947 and was only popularized worldwide in the 50s.
++
This isn't supposed to be about what regular people wore like the Cut's versions, it's about popular designers in French high fashion sphere.
hang1iderswing yeah but she's not french...
It was in Paris that she began making her own clothes, as well as launching her house Place Vendôme. Lots of immigrants influenced and made Paris fashion.
No nod to Yves Saint Laurent? Wow
I was shocked about the same thing!
Me too

Tout à fait.
Enrico Da Ponte merci.
Enfin.

I think what they were trying to do with the 30s look was to channel the famous lobster dress that Schiaparelli designed and Dali painted.
Great points. I was bothered by the 40’s thing as well.
August Pritchett yes, but she is not even french. Honestly, I don't think this dress expresses well french style in the 30s.
honestly french fashion is so timeless, like most of these looks could/are worn today
I'm french myself, and honestly, this is NOT french fashion. Be accurate, I mean French people wasn't that luxurious during war and WWII.
I don't think anyone was, at least not in countries involved in WWII.

@@fluffybunny5238 do you know there was world war i before wwii?
Yeah I think it meant 100 years of french RUNWAY HIGH FASHION.
I'm french and when I saw this video I was like " mhhh french women wore crab outfit in 1930?!" NOO and did you see 2010 outfit it looks like old fashioned kim kardashian's suit!
mama v why is everyone calling it a crab. It’s a lobster
Timothée Chalamet literally wore the same suit in the Little women premiere in Paris! Suits him soo much better
if you search up 1930 french fashion the picture they used is there . , . maybe they are just going off bad internet picturess? what if they do not know
@@natbug8237 well they should know, if you are making a video on fashion history, you should know what to include and how to look for references
the crab look was not even French, Elsa Schiaparelli was an Italian designer and btw no-one wore dresses like that unless for photos or paintings.
Really cool, but I’d love to see like everyday looks as well! The history of high fashion is very interesting and I love that y’all include extant photos or art where possible! But I think it would also be very fun to see what normal / working class people were wearing!

wait there's armys there too i feel like you're taking over the internet it's scaring i'm jungshook
Wth Armys we are everywhere xD
....there's always at least one.

This isn't super accurate I wish they'd done more research

You missed out on YSL and Balmain :/
1940s & 50s fashion were so class around the world..
I'm not even French and I can tell you that this isn't accurate.
For me this is a off and I feel like it more relates to the US and Great Britain but there is definitely French influence in there so good job!! ❤️❤️
And than we hit 2020 with hijab being the most popular piece of clothing worn in France
