Black people's hair is BEYOND diverse! And the fact that they needed at least 2 models to represent some of the decades, just proves that!
i feel like the young lady from the late 2010 to the next decade, the tweens should be represented by the unburdened natural sista. Instead of Beyonce we should have Teionna Parris as the face of the decade.
+Lechiffresix six but not many people know her
Someone have to hate it just how life is
Every race's hair is diverse. Except Asians.
Moana What hairstyles can black people do that anyone else can't?
I really want people at school to stop touching my hair without my permission
Don’t we all
Literally, I’ve been telling people not to touch my hair for years now, and I’ve been telling them “ it’s not my real hair”
YES OMG
Yes! They always say... “that’s not your real hair.” Like...... Yes it is.
Same! When I’m not looking, my friends PULL my hair
They're slaying these hairstyles but please specify that it's the history of black hair in America :)
JSW W this was 2 years ago
Why dose it matter¿?
Jennifer C i doubt they would notice it and change it because the video is 2 years old
Jennifer C does*
This is an American brand and an American RUclips channel. They should not have to cater to the rest of the world.
I remember I wore braids to school people said I looked like Medusa and laughed at me. I was rlly angry cuz it took me 5 hours to get done but I kept it in because I thought I looked beautiful with my braids, whether the white boys at my school laughed at me or not 💖✨

Straightening black hair wasnt just a style; black women couldn't get work unless they did. That still goes on today.
Marty Ro SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT. If this isn’t the truth...bruh
Marty Ro that doesn't happen today idiot
Poor Ting no that doesn't happen tho I've never seen it happen idiot
lil mouse the best
You’re not even trying to listen and do some research. You’re being ignorant. Ya’ll shouldn’t waste your time on this troll.
But it's changing because more Black women are standing up against such mistreatment. And in the future i feel like we can go to work or other places without straightening our hair or relaxing our hair. At my secondary school they tried kicking me out for having my afro and not tying up my hair as it was a school policy to tie it up if its below shoulder length which it was not. I rebelled and explained to the teacher who was white (and had mixed kids so idk why she didn't look into black hair but whatever) that my hair doesn't flop down like hers i'm black and that hairbands will break when i attempt to tie up my hair, my hair isn't shoulder length and that unless she wants to pay for me to get braids she should leave me alone. Since then more of the black girls in my school started coming into school with their natural hair or did the big chop. I'm not saying you're incorrect btw
When I go to school and have box braids everyone is like “ THAT’S FAKE HAIR “ and i’m like it’s on my head not yours
I KNOW. So what if it's fake huh? Do they have a problem? Does it make me any less beautiful cuz it's fake? I worked hard to pull if thus hairstyle I'm not gonna let anyone drag me down 😤
right! don't listen to them. they just jealous you can rock the hairstyle and they can't.
Chiara Martin periodt like they prob dont know what braids r
It's not like we openly say that it's our hair or anything. We're just protecting our natural hair in a pretty way. Such immature humans.
Ignore them. They did that when I was in school 10+ years ago. Smh
Y’all missed out on a lot of trends: The beehive for the 60s, the curl set for the 70s, the perm rod set for the 80s, the swoop for the 90s, the flipped bob for the 90s, the Bantu knots for the 90s, the lace front weave for the 00s, the colorful wigs for the 10s, the crotchet braids for the 10s, the “wash and go” for the 10s. You coulda gone a lot more specific.
MySisterIsAFoodie make a video?
Exactly I was looking for the lace fronts and colors towards the end the 40" wigs the bright colors against our chocolate skin
Please make a video, I think they tried their best but please if you can. Make a video on black hair
MySisterIsAFoodie looks like you should have been part of the crew !!
I Could have sworn I saw Bantu knots in the 90s. Surprised they added it towards the end of the video since it’s literally one of the most 90s hair style
I would just like to say to any white girls reading this right now, you can love the hair. You can compliment the hair. But do not touch the hair like it's your pet. It's creepy
Girl of mysteries 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 yas
Why white girls specifically? Racist
Bloodline EightySix Cause white girls are the ones that do it.
@@bobbyflythe7969 Asians do it more. There are plenty of vids of it
Bloodline EightySix in all my life it’s only ever been white girls and my school 75% Asians that come from different countries and it’s their first time seeing my type of hair. Hush your mouth and stop trying to speak on our experiences
The fact that people are offended by this video is so funny to me. Black women have been put down for literally everything until this very day. Now when we get representation about us and historically how our hair has been and the different styles we've had throughout the years, y'all throw a fit. And for what? Black girls get teased for our hair ALL THE TIME. And when we try to uplift ourselves and each other because we finally realize how beautiful we really are, you guys get so butthurt. Black people in general are always targeted and have always been looked down upon, give us a break. Let us praise each other and be proud of who we are. Thanks.
You should have seen how insanely furiously people got when a ballet-shoe company in the UK started making ballet shoes of a darker tone for non-white ballet dancers. You'd have thought the world was ending.

I’m really pissed off when people think they can police other women’s hair. F off everybody. She wants it to be natural and you don’t like, look somewhere else. She was a weave and you don’t like, look somewhere else.
Ewa Da Silveira who said it’s only black women, men too. I mean I wouldn’t expect you too understand your white.
You know I'm Doing it When did she ever say it was just black women? You are the one who sound pretty racist here, insulting someone for being white.
@@youknowimdoingit2074 the absurdity of calling out someone "I wouldn't expect you to understand, you're white", of course she will only state never police a black woman's hair because the video is about 100 years of Black women's hair, not "100 of Black people hair". Everybody gets it, OP understand it as well, you only make an argument just to secretly spit racism towards someone. There's nothing wrong with saying "not only in women but in black men too", but adding hate comment at the end? Come on..
Also fix your grammar kid.
You know I'm Doing it so I’m black I think that was rude. She probably hears black women getting this type of treatment more than black men but it isn’t her fault that she’s white and that she doesn’t know anything about black culture
Just shut up please
*I don’t understand why certain people have watched the video and then proceeded to read the comments* if they were going to be offended about black people:
-praising black hair
-asking for their hair to not be touched
-asking non black ppl to not wear our hairstyles
Like who really forced you to watch the video?😂
shakira it’s the **cough** people
ikr, i hate it when while girls act all ghetto thinking its cool, wearing our hairstyles, just because its IN, like thats someones life you tryin to fake and dont get me started on the edges and accent.
Jazzy James Mabye it’s because they like it, and find it flattering . 🤷🏿♀️
@@sashenkadumerve3017 Who would find it flattering? The Caucasian girls? no, they want to because its a new trend, looking like black girls. Why do you think there is black fishing, but no white fishing? because most black girls are comfortable in their own melanin, where white girls cant understand their privilege and just want to look ghetto because its in.
Jazzy James the reason white washing doesn’t exist is that white people do not claim hairstyles as their own like that. Most white girls do not want to be black. Most of the ones wearing their hair like that probably just like and appreciate the hairstyles without wanting to disrespect the culture or history behind it.
These women are gorgeous

Okay, you can do freehand cornrows and they would look fantastic. I'm East African and this was very common when I was younger.
But the ones in this video just look...weird lol

It really blows my mind how people of other culture and color can come to a video that is CLEARLY about the Black race and feel some sort of way when they see a comment praising or appreciating Black culture yet put a remark saying it’s racist, it just boggles my mind. 🤯
y3ko86 so that makes it racist? No.. that’s my point! Don’t indulge in another’s culture yet call it racist obviously. 🤷🏾♀️
Right! This video about black hair and all im reading is ppl hating on compliments about blacks or saying all races or women are beautiful, when no one said it wasnt this video was specifically about us. Mfrs hate when we shine!
Complimenting it is okay but it doesn't mean the video itself is not racist. You should be the first one to be offended, since they made this JUST because it's black hair.
Why not make a video about 100 years of hair including every race?
@@TadanGirl um not sure if you noticed but these hundred year hair videos sometimes tend to focuss one one particular culture/group

When a black person is called beautiful I ask that you don’t say “well everyone is”. We know that but we’re not going to say “everyone is beautiful”. It seems that you guys are confused. If people are saying anything about black hair being the best it doesn't really mean "Oh so they think they are the best". For a while now black women have been told that our natural hair isn't beautiful. So when you see someone praising black hair then its just them giving support to the community.
I remember that in Ebony magazine that our own people would do ads telling us its unacceptable for our hair to be natural so buy this hair straightner and your hair will stay straight even in the rain. I said hair straightner because they weren't calling them relaxers at that time .People bought that trash and 70 percent of most people hair came out. We even did it to our selves. Peoples hair was coming out in the wash bowl it was terrible! I Laugh when I think back on it because if you made it through the process you had to get your hair wet set and sit under the dryer until your hair dried. some people never made it to the rollers or the dryer. They had to go next door to the wig store. This is a true story yall, ask your grandmothers. lol

@@miriamhavard7621 sigh
The problem with the use of the word rebellion is that its white ppls narrative. This should be about Black womens hair history. Not once again, White ppls story about why Black women wore them.
@@9175rock I definitely appreciate that point. Bear in mind, even OTHER Blacks disapproved of Afros. You'd be shocked how many times Black people got hassled by *other* Black people for wearing Afros, cornrows, African jewelry and dashikis.
@@miriamhavard7621 I understand that too. Some ppl used to call me militant. But my point was and is that Black ppl are not exactly monolithic. There we're many different reactions to Afro's. The fact that the narrator would say that it was a symbol of Rebellion and or not that it was a symbol or Rebellion, Pride, Liberation, Knowledge, Reconnection, etc. is suspect. Black ppls afros we're "symbols" of many things to Black ppl. Rebellion was the only thing it meant to white ppl.

So happy we are finally wearing it natural!!!!!!!!!!!!!
more people are going natural yes but most people are still not wearing it natural.. lets be real
I disagree, from what I've seen (as someone who lived all her life in a predominately black city and attends an HBCU) having natural hair is becoming a standard - as it should. If not entirely natural, most people cut out the perm and wear wigs or protective styles (like braids, or faux dreads in their hair, and obviously straight weave) but underneath is still natural. The percentage of people who keep the perm is getting a lot smaller now days.
Nah you aren't. I live in a city thats 80% black. Everyones got weaves and fake hair.... just cuz youre not perming doesnt mean youre natural.
If you're talking to me, I've always considered someone natural if they don't have perm in their hair because weave comes out. I even have weave sometimes to keep my hands out of my hair for a while. No, you don't have your kinks up for a minute but that reversible - chemicals aren't unless you wait that long time for new hair to grow, or you chop all of it off.
I used to iron my hair everyday and idealize straight hair. but now, because of influences in these past years I started to loove curly hair (and started leaving mine alone). it feels liberating. Basically, role models are really important. the 2010 part of the video made me happy lol
Normally I cringe at how people used to do their hair. This, on the other hand, shows how fashionable black women were and still are to this day. Rock it girls!

And you basically just went ahead and confirmed my point. Any other race can do these things with their hair. Yes, the end result would look different, obviously. Just as a black person can do a white hairstyle. It would look a bit different because of the texture but they are still capable of doing the style. The fact still remains that black hair can't magically do all sorts of things that other hair can't. Except for, as I already said before, an Afro. That would probably be the only actual style I can think of that most white people couldn't achieve. At least without a perm or curling.
An excellent selection of hair models. 😊
The fashion stylist and makeup artists did a great job too.
TheMovieMyLife i see you everywhere!

The change in music as per time passes by...just according to the type of decade.. awesome!
I'm not black (I'm Mexican) but I think black women are absolutely gorgeous.
@DD P yeee it's a nationality
@DD P and where do Indian people fit..they have a big variety of skin?
Isidora Sekulic tru

Watch somebody that's not black make this point about them.... I'm waiting...
jaa d Waiting too, lol.
Róisín Grant boo fucking hoo. Google brunette and youll be fine
We found one in the comments, y'all.
Róisín Grant the difference is one is a race and one is a color lol. You do know that you can find hairstyles without searching “black” right? I mean what does the color have to do with the style? Lol
ty ahmad RIGHT since when does hair colour dictate how a style would like. Smh.
These are so pretty!!! The girls look so pretty in their curly hair! I love natural looks~.
Since I was a kid I’ve always been in love with all the different styles I’ve seen in black hair. I remember my friends in school coming in every few weeks showing off their new braids with different lengths and colors and designs. I’m not sure if my mom being a hairdresser inspired my appreciation for hair in general but as an artist, I love drawing/painting different hairstyles and textures and there are soooo many absolutely stunning hairstyles for black women especially that I use as inspiration for my art❤ I’m thankful for educational videos like these that give me more historical context, especially if I am working on a painting set in a specific time in history
man black is beautiful like wow look at God's creation 😍😍😍
But this video still is a racist, lazy attempt to get views. Historically inaccurate and poorly executed. I'm disappointed. :(
Svetlana Anjuska
THAT RACIST COMMENT THO are you mad because BLACK doesn't need to be mixed with white to be cute #UMAD
Svetlana Anjuska Not true, black is beautiful by it's self
Svetlana Anjuska Wait r like 9? Because if ur older than omg😂
Rectal Fluid Toucansexual Soy Boy ??

All of these ladies are just gorgeous, their smiles are pure sunshine ☀️
the 50s hairstyle looks stunning. i could imagine it with a dark purple evening dress, slow jazz and glimmering champagne glasses. great job
I love how they use different shades and ethnicities in this video.
I originally thought it was referring to the hair colour that was black but I get it now. I understand if you are a bit confused of the fact that there is no Asian, Hispanic or white representation, but it is talking about black people's hair culture, not black coloured hair itself
@@gabynicole0184 i think she was talking about different shades of skin, like they showed lighter and darker skinned women in the video
@@gabynicole0184 She was talikg baout the skin volour of the women the hair texture and their ethnicity there Is not only one type of black
I don't think all of you understood what I was trying to say! I was just basically saying that this video talks about black hair culture through the century and not the hair colour black
@Kleco102 Literally the comment that I commented on. I've come across a lot of confused viewers though... You just have to scroll
I love it! I love how everyone is back to embracing their natural selves (Hair wise). Now if everyone can go back to embracing their natural bodies.
Yes! This giant silicone ass trend is just.. ew.
刘凯琳 lmfao hater
That’s so different from hair 😂
God_Speed Yep. I hate huge fake asses. It looks disgusting to me. You can like it if you like, but I don't.
I cut my hair really short because I permed it and it ruined my hair. After the summer my hair grew a few inches. If my natural hair was a little bit longer I would defiantly wear it natural. But for now, I wear weave as a protective way for my hair to grow. Not becuase I don’t like my real hair bc I really do love it. I’m just waiting for it to grow back to its original length. People assume that I wear weave because I’m “bald headed” or I’m trying to be “white” when really I’m just wearing it to protect my hair and let it grow.
Black women always slayed
Thank you for making this video💚💚🇯🇲
Black hair is so beautiful! 😍
not really
their
naturally hair are gross ,till they put tone of cosmetics for hair and make some hair style
Zak Mik ...
Zak Mik Atleast us black girls don't have to wash our hair 2-3 times a day. I wouldn't trade my kinky curly hair for the world. 🙂❤
Dear women of other races,
When a black woman gets a compliment of beauty in no way, shape, or form does this automatically mean that you are not beautiful too. I know women have a tendency to think this way but it is logically fallacious. #Alllivesmatter was birthed out of this same lack of logical reasoning. Furthermore, just dont come on channels that represent black women--just dont waste your time if it makes you feel some type of way.
Christina Schimp what you mean
@@amerebaby8685 typically when someone says she is beautiful, gorgeous, pretty( towards a black woman) and so on, women of other races feels some type of way. Just because someone is pretty doesn't make another woman not pretty. That thinking was the same thinking that led to alllivesmatter to form. They would say if black lives matter then all lives matter while missing the point of it all. Reread my comment and think about it for a few minutes.
Christina Schimp umm first of all I’m not about to reread yo comment first of all that’s not how some people think you can’t speak for everybody if you don’t know everybody
What race are you
I'm black

I mean E for Effort. We be wearing our afros if they hadn't been banned like we was carrying nuclear weapons in em or something.
ItssaLyssa96 so true...
lmao wow that's sad. i wish i had "afro" textured hair (im white) and it's sad that my race made the beauty standard set around the world :-/ i feel like they only did that because they know how unique and stunning black people truly are. black people can obtain anything us caucasians do but we cant do everything you guys' do :-/
Glad your pointing this out.
ItssaLyssa96 Facts!
Jessey Boe
The amount of white guilt you have is nauseating. White people make up less than 20% of the entire world population... They didn't go to every country and "set the beauty standard" LOL
1:43 she's gorgeous
All those people in the video are absolutely beautiful! I’m a huge fan of their hair and smiles of course!
It’s sad how we were ashamed of our nature hair and how we had to straighten for job but I love how today more girls are showing off their natural hair and being proud 🙌🏽
Korah Meneus I completely agree! Enjoy 👉🏽 ruclips.net/video/nLgdL78MykE/видео.html
I’m not ashamed, it’s just a lot of work 🤣☺️
I am really so proud of being black. We’ve always been through a lot and WE keep fighting harder every single day.
