      @@bodgitandleggitgaragehey when you lip a panel like that they make a weld through primer you can put behind on the original panel so its not just raw steel behind good for coating the back of your patch panels to looking good though

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  6 месяцев назад

      @@79huddy Mate, I am well aware of that. But it does not work very well. And the heat of the world just Burns it all away. It can sometimes make the world very spluttery. Wax oil does a lot of the protection I have tried it both ways with the well through primer. And I don't see any advantage using it

    Good job Leon. You could always lead fill it.
    It’s a bit of a lost art, but that would easily be done with a heat gun, yes, I did say a heat gun.

    This is an example of a very well done rust repair. Before this panel rusts out again other parts of the van will be long gone.

    Lovely job. You probably could've gone to the door with that panel as those few inches of old metal on the sill probably won't live much longer. Isn't it easier to take the metal up to an inch of edge of the first panel groove edge? That way it's a nice, clean, straight line weld

    Great job! Just wondering on a point of technicality (and no, I'm not critising the job, it's well done and perfectly safe), does this repair meet UK MOT standards? IIRC replacement panels should be at least astrong as the original welding but welded repair patches should be continuously welded all round.

    • @bodgitandleggitgarage
      @bodgitandleggitgarage  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi mate, I am not sure as I do not live in the UK. But I am sure it will as this is the same as the factory panel. You cannot continuously weld around When it comes to edges, all the edges on every single vehicle. Are either glued on or spot welded on. Every single vehicle especially vans. When the 2 panels come together in the factory. They are just spot welded together not continuously welded So this is just as good as it was in the factory as it The exactly same procedure they follow
      What I think you are actually referring to is when people make patch panels for chessie rails Then this needs to be continuously welded all the way around, which would make a lot of sense.

    i have had my car vandalised at nct centre the guy actually made a hole in the sill where was no hole too begin with i knew there was a rusted area that would need fixing at some point but i didn't think they were allowed to actually make a hole in a panel ? .

      They're trying to get car's off the road I think, have no proof of course but every year they seem to be ratcheting up what was an advisory to MAJOR FAULT 🙄 I've a bit of welding to do on a neighbour's car that came back with 2 holes in the cills from the nct as well 😮

    Everyone is going on how great the job is etc. i get it his trying to make a so called diy video. but his clueless about welding, and everything he says to justify why he did it the way he did, contradicts what he says earlier. doesnt understand why real panel beaters use air guns to make sure it doesnt tin can, he says absurd things like you have to wait 2 hours. the lap joint is nt stronger. you have put so much weld into the panel its has pulled and shrunk so much, its not moving, it doesnt need to be stronger than a thin sheet of panel. its not a structural panel. he creates so much extra work, and gets a much worse result than actuall replacing the whole panel with the one he has, from were it meets the door to the wheel arch and the top bodyline where the replacement panel goes upto the bodyline, it will be so straight, and thats how its supposed to be. and you wont be putting the heat into the flat section of the panel you spot or mig like how its done from factory, there is minimum weld. yet at 1 minute and 10 seconds into the video he welds the shit out of the cut section of the new flat panel. he put the panel up onto the van, thats why the panel is designed to cover that section. someone with a bit of common sense, will atleast see when they put it over the cut section, thats what you replace. yet he cuts the warped panel in half, and cuts the replacement full perfect panel on a angle in half, welds them together, warps both of them totally, and he has the nerve to call it weld without distortion. he doesnt mention the \ hours if not days worth of work trying to fill and get the warped panel straight. he makes it look like the filled just appeared and fixed itself, who cuts full perfect replace panel, and welds the shit out of it by cutting it to the cut he had on the damaged panel, making some stupid unnecessary lap over. a flat section, and says everyone else is an idiot, this is how its done, what the does the whole world know anyway. says things like if you do a but weld, you have to grind away 98% of the weld you put on, WTF so your left with 2% weld, what are you saying mate. and justifies it for half the video. its bizarre. then he says its only a tiny bit of filler. yet we can see the amount of filler, the joint has caused such a dip he had to load the filler, that if he done it himself. for someone that shows everything he does. he mysteriously doesn't show how the filler was done. 1 he didnt do it himself or 2 someone else done the repair. then he says its ok he doesnt care because his going to put stone chip over it. let me tell you there is no stone chip on the front of that panel, just behind it and full under the sill. he most likely needs ot do it, because its so warped, his been doing the filler for so long, its just not straightening up. so his going to load the stone chip rough sealer, so it cant be seen. if tis comment is deleted. ill just make a video on debunking it.
