I saw Gil performing the Korngold concerto which really impressed me immensely. So, naturally, I wanted to hear him play this, my favourite violin concerto. And NO sense of disappointment followed. He plays very sensitively when required but really knows how to let go and enjoy the music - especially in the finale. Wonderful, with fine playing from the SWR. Anyone who hasn't heard Gil play the Korngold should search for it now. It may not be familiar to you in which case you're really in for a treat. You will get the same level of energy, excitement, and joy!
Today is the second time I watch Gil’s performance. His smile is heart-melting. His interpretation is awesome and the conductor and orchestra are equally fantastic!
Wow, what an outstanding conductor Omer Meir Wellber is. His interaction and chemistry with the soloist and with the orchestra throughout the whole concerto is so stunning and amazing to watch.

Das Besondere an dieser Interpretation ist die Eleganz. Shaham sieht das Konzert eben nicht als reines Virtuosenschlachtross, sondern arbeitet die feinen, sensiblen Momente heraus. Das war ein sehr schönes Konzert.
I saw Shaham perform this a few years ago and loved the look of pure joy and enjoyment in his face. It's so lovely to see this again, especially around 6:15-40, Shaham and conductor😍
Gil loves people, musicians, and music is his very essence. Its in infectious. The orchestra and audience always catch it. 6:32 +. Its always fun at at Shaham show!

BRAVO !!!! Saludos desde España.
Whenever I hear a performance on SWR Classic, I feel as though I am hearing it for the first time because the camera work is so well-orchestrated that I am given visual clues to the orchestral nuances that I was deaf to before. Thank you.
@@Illandir in case of a baroque bow, the bowhair tension helps the playing style of the era, in which requires minimal vibrato and relatively low tension on the hand that is holding the bow. but in this case, mr shaham has applied maximum tension to his MODERN BOW for unknown reason (maybe one that i have stated earlier), which is an ultimate nightmare fuel for most of the modern violin players.
The SWR orchestra and channel are a blast. They have it all. From baroque to world premieres. Always high quality. From the orchestra and conductors, the locations, the sound engineers to the visual engineers. Thanks.
Gill is always great and this performance is another amazing one, and I am also very glad to find out this conductor, Wellber and his orchestra SWR. So impressive on their harmony
I was completely misinformed Gil Shaham was Midori's teacher from pre-internet period. In fact, this was first time I hear him play and wanted to know more about him and realized he is same age as Midori. I should dig this guy. Sounds great.
I'm sorry, but this not clapping between movements needs to stop being a thing. The 1st mov finale was unbelievable. As an orchestral musician it almost hurts when silence follows. When you watch a play, or an opera, applause always follows each scene change. This isn't any different. It's a bit insulting because of "protocol" been doing this 25 years...still hate that this has become normal.
I quite agree! Clap when it's appropriate to clap; don't when it's not. How can anyone sit on their hands at the end of that thrilling first movement finale?

Bruno Lelis Santos Lol i mean you can disagree with a few things (such as shaham starting the piece on an upbow for some reason), but it’s certainly not horrible. He plays too fast in my opinion, but he’s not rushing, has good musicality, and doesn’t make any major mistakes. At best his playing is slightly offensive because of the Bowing patterns and speed

Wow, i have never seen such an extreme bow tension used by a professional before. 😯
I saw him play this in person. So friendly and talented.
I envy you....
He is playing in my city this October - I can't wait! ❤
I met him in person after a concert many years ago. He let me hold his Stradivari,I talked to him for 10 min. He’s such a good and humble person
