So you're the reason the Cabal invaded! You pushed the purple ball off the Tower and it landed on Gary's head, so he got angry and destroyed the city :'(
As someone who's a huge Destiny fan & been playing since day one, this was so helpful! I never got into the grimoire which I know really fleshes out the lore so thanks again!
Thanks for compiling the D1 story to 15 min. I find it way to much to read all the grimoar cards i get. Hopefully they will put the story in D2 in another way. Keep up the great work Arekkz!
WOW! Awesome video, Arrekz! I've been a Destiny player since the Alpha...and it's really only now, after watching your video that I UNDERSTAND the sequence of events and narrative motives of our enemies! Great stuff, cheers!
What Bungie can do to improve Destiny's story for the next game: - Cutscenes. I know a lot of people rail against them, but they can serve a useful purpose for storytelling as long as they are concise, well-written, and you don't overload the story with them. - Less ambiguity. Three years almost and we still know next to nothing about what the Darkness or the Light are, how they function, what the Traveller is, etc. I get wanting to be mysterious, but there's such a thing as too much. - Flesh out existing characters. There's about a half-dozen characters who are supposed to be major players in the story, but nothing is done with them other than alluding that they may or may not be involved in certain events. And give the existing NPCs some more personality. Cayde can't carry the whole narrative (though not for lack of trying). - Stop building stories around the Fallen as primary antagonists. They're cannon fodder enemies, shattered tribal remnants, and yet they SOMEHOW managed to fircibly enter the Vault of Glass and control Golden Age tech? And then they get swept aside just as suddenly, without any real fanfare, and forgotten. They are impossible to take as legitimate threats anymore.
YES! More Cutscenes with the ability to skip (for people without patience) would be great to see what is going on. I'll be killing everything insight collecting this & that for 2-hrs and i'll suddenly stop & ask myself what am I actually doing this for?? BTW: Yea its an old comment but I just started D2 so blah- :)
Arekkz Gaming honestly I have played destiny sense the release, and I would have to say that I don't even understand the story but from watching this the story of the game looks very well made and intrusting as well as this being very well explained overall in you presentation 10/10 video bud👍👍👍
This helped me A LOT. I can't believe a RUclipsr can explain the story better than the developers can. This was great, so you get a like and I will share this with all my friends that are going to get Destiny 2. Keep it up!
you did a really good job with this, only key note that you missed is that, as the darkness approaches the traveler made preparations to leave us (as it had done with the fallen), this is where Rasputin predicts this eventuality and damages the traveler so it cannot leave. now that i couldn't leave it mounts its last defence of itself by releasing the ghosts and creating the guardians to protect itself
I played Destiny 1 when I was younger but didn’t pay attention to the story, but I remember that there wasn’t much story outside of the dlc, so thanks a bunch
Great video dude, thanks for the summary. I just got Destiny 2 in the Humble Bundle monthly and it's an awesome game. Only issue is they do not explain the background very well lol. I understand why, but it's hard to get attached to the story without it. Thanks again!
I was a hard core destiny fan, but I stopped playing just after the 3rd raid was released, no idea why I totally stopped playing but I'm definitely coming back to destiny 2! Already pre ordered the limited edition
Thank you this will help me understand destiny’s origins. Hopped in on the game in March of 2020 and did the red war, forsaken shadow keep and now beyond light and kinda just rolled with it but now I’m going to try and understand where it all started
This was a really great video, thanks, but I wanted to point out one thing. You said the hive built the Dreadnaught to fight guardians, in fact Oryx built it for his throne room to be portable and armored because he can be killed ONLY in his real throne room, if he's killed somewhere else he just "respawns"... But other than that, a great video, thanks a lot, it reminded me of all the stuff I did throughout those 2 years. 👍
thanks for making this video! really looking forward to destiny 2. only played a little of destiny 1 but none of my buddies had it :(. hopefully we can all get it this time round
Thanks for making this video. I have just bought the game (late to the party, but I tend to play on pc, so I was reluctant to pull the trigger), and I am really looking forward to destiny 2 on pc, so I am glad to be caught up on the story.
very helpful, thank you for explaining the story better than they did lol. I wish they was more ways to find lore laid out chronologically in game. Like a scribe in those progression books they introduced in year 2
The Golden Age = Halo Lifecycle days for Bungie (yes, Halo 2 "mishap" included haha) The Darkness = Activision's need to micromanage because they know what customers want. The Collapse = The rejection of the initial story and supercut and Bungie's turmoil attempting to recover from such a blow. ...Now Destiny's story has had to claw back it's way from extinction, which has been a pretty decent job once they got a small footing on HoW. No hate here, I was one of the initial "burned" year 1 folks, but I strongly believe you can find so much to improve when you make mistakes. Good luck to the Bungie crew, can't wait to see what they've got planned for D2 and on. Great Video, Arekkz, thanks man.
Myelin games said that it was actually Rasputin who crippled the traveler to stop it from abandoning humanity and force it to create a defence mechanism (ghosts, and by extension guardians)so I think that was a small error you made as he has done lots of research, but other than that great summary.
So I still wanna know..I remember the ghost saying we were woken up from the dead or something like that. But were we dead? Sleeping? If the guardians died what killed them? Still so many questions
Pretty good overall, except Skolas didn't escape captivity. He was a prisoner of the Queen who was given as a gift to appease The Nine when her brother's Crows entered their territory. Skolas was then set free by The Nine for an unknown purpose. Hopefully we find out more about The Nine and their hidden agendas in Destiny 2.
Great vid but just one problem...The assault on the dreadnought by the awoken. It did go according to the plan. It was a suicide mission to have Oryx destroy his entire fleet along with the awoken to make it easier for the guardians to infiltrate and destroy Oryx.
Kabals? Cabals? THOSE DOODZ! Anyway i am looking forward to put a hot one through they're dome piece this Chrismas (in Destiny 2) Big thanks to Arekkz Gaming cause i really DIDN'T play the first Destiny so i needed some sort of a recap! Now i'm set to buy Destiny 2 for Christmas WOOO
tnx a lot, i have been playing destiny a long time and my englisch wasn't that good in the beginning ( it still is bad ) but now i understand the WHOLE story and not just parts. tnx
great video! except you missed one thing Skolas challenges you in the Prison of Elders. also if you could've added Iron Banner lore and Trials of Osiris and you pretty much would've gotten the main things in Destiny
Saint Parallax yeah but when he challenges you is part of the story and iron banner was to prepare you for fights ahead and trials was to show your loyalty to osiris which was in the story you didn't have to go any deeper then that no history just what they were for btw why didn't they bring skolas up to 390 light for age if triumph?
so much history and story that we didnt really get to play, I wish they would have expanded further and let us be apart of the ancient wars or to fight alongside the legendary vanguard guardians or saladin, I hope we get to in destiny 2, im sick of them just being audio and subtitles and standing at the tower, oh and great video!
Thank you!!!!! I have gone through the campaigns several time but get so lost of what is actually going on because of all the side quests that get thrown at me along with poor story telling (before ttk)
Thanks. This helps. Just started this after 13 months of non stop Division. Great game, but confusing. Just hit level 40(LL215), and confused about many things. The main one being that it appears that sometimes you replay a mission but it has a new ending. Can you do a video advising the navigation and how to get your LL up? Just dipped into the crucible, but feel my build is too weak. Not as easy to figure out a build versus the division. Thanks, Scott.
That's yet another problem with destiny. The meta game and leveling is so complex and new players have no idea where to start or how to level up. Destiny is an amazing game with confusing flaws and lazy decisions.
Scott Mcahren you should try and do strikes & nightfall to get higher light items once you have around 350 you can do the raid in order to get 400 as well as strikes and nightfall. If ur on PS4 I can run some strikes and nightfall with you to help out
You really should've taken a minute or two to explain the Cabal angle in TTK so that people understand why such a huge fleet is there in D2, but otherwise this was a fantastic video.
"If you read the cards, you'd know the story!" lol, if that's such an effective means of communicating a story, why'd Destiny's story fail so hard that most folks do not know the story or even want to know the story? Gameplay is a way to tell a story and when story is placed in a card on a site that requires you to stop entirely put down the game to learn, what is the point of playing destiny then? Clearly the cards was not an effective way of communicating the story when playing the game is the goal in mind. Was the story decent? Sure. Was the story told effectively? Not in the slightest.
Thanks so much for this. I had Destiny on PS4 but I had to sell the PS4 to make ends meet before I got very far in the game. I played the Destiny 2 open beta and loved it so I pre-purchased it for PC. This answered all my questions that the beta left me with.

This was a really good video! Everything important summarised in a good way. Keep up the good work 👍
Seeing this video reminded me of all the things I have done in the past 3 years with my friends on all those DLCs.
You forgot about the part where I knocked the purple ball off the tower.
I'm waiting for that guy who says:
"Back in my day we knocked off Atheon in the VoG."
Pawn Gelato Back in my day we knocked off Atheon in the VoG
So you're the reason the Cabal invaded! You pushed the purple ball off the Tower and it landed on Gary's head, so he got angry and destroyed the city :'(
Arekkz Gaming
It wasn't just me, it was my whole Fireteam!
Every Iron Banner we dropped the hidden ball, as well!
BEWARE!
Dear Arekkz Gaming I'm level 13 in destiny
God bless. I just got Destiny 2 over the weekend and HAD NO IDEA WHAT WAS GOING ON
Finally ... some1 who had time to explain ...
EdDotNL haa good one
Oooohhhh, genius!
Haha, nice one. :)
EdDotNL cause it didn't seem that the speaker or stranger explained
I love that joke
As someone who's a huge Destiny fan & been playing since day one, this was so helpful! I never got into the grimoire which I know really fleshes out the lore so thanks again!
The way it's delivered here actually makes me interested in the series again. The way the story is delivered by Bungie is just so damn lackluster.
Thanks for compiling the D1 story to 15 min. I find it way to much to read all the grimoar cards i get. Hopefully they will put the story in D2 in another way.
Keep up the great work Arekkz!

Great stuff, cheers!
I've been playing this game for 4 years now and most of this I never knew. Tnx!
although I know what happens I still love watching these videos because it reminds me of the adventures we've been through

Such a great recap, thanks for this - keep up the good work!
been playing Destiny for 2 years.. and now (because of you) i finally understand the story.. thanks lol
just coming back to destiny after 5 years away. thank you for this
i want someone to make a 30-45 min movie version to destiny. and make it a 2 parter. one about the past and one about our guardians.
do it
Thanks Arekkz, appreciate it (even though it's an old vid)! Definitely helped my memory.
This explains a lot. The game just throws you into the middle of things without filling in any of the blanks.
Great video! Thank you for the effort and time you put into this video.
Thankyou so much now i understand the FULL story of destiny, keep on the good work!
Thanks for the in-depth video of the story. And great work on the channel.
This was a really great video, thanks, but I wanted to point out one thing. Amazing stuff for new lights
very helpful, thank you for explaining the story better than they did lol. I wish they was more ways to find lore laid out chronologically in game. Like a scribe in those progression books they introduced in year 2

Damian Kill He's right
Damian Kill Rasputin DID crippled the traveler to force it to help humanity
you always do an amazing job with your videos
This was great, thanks a lot, I didn't play the last dlc from the first destiny, now I know what I missed.
Thank you for this video Arekkz
So I still wanna know..I remember the ghost saying we were woken up from the dead or something like that. But were we dead? Sleeping? If the guardians died what killed them? Still so many questions
That was awesome! Good video!
This vid clears up a lot but I would like that vid on the golden age
I just realized that destiny's story is similar to LoTR in the sense that most of the cool stuff happened in the past.
Excellent job dude!
Quality video Arekkz 👌🏿
You missed the part where Rasputin was the reason the traveller didn't leave the earth when the darkness attacked
Pretty good overall, except Skolas didn't escape captivity. He was a prisoner of the Queen who was given as a gift to appease The Nine when her brother's Crows entered their territory. GoDz Glitch Well trials and the Iron banana were pvp events, they weren't crucial for furthering the main story along
Saint Parallax true i see your point but skolas' Revenge was a main part if the story just like Crota's end or kings fall
Thanks man! Great video!
so much history and story that we didnt really get to play, I wish they would have expanded further and let us be apart of the ancient wars or to fight alongside the legendary vanguard guardians or saladin, I hope we get to in destiny 2, im sick of them just being audio and subtitles and standing at the tower, oh and great video!
Really good video so ready for destiny 2
Destiny is actually really deep. I love the lore of the game. It's sad people always say destiny has no story lol.
Watched this cause I am about to buy destiny 2... it really helped THANKS!
I don't have enough money to buy it, so I'm watching this instead.
Thanks man
Thank you!!!!! I have gone through the campaigns several time but get so lost of what is actually going on because of all the side quests that get thrown at me along with poor story telling (before ttk)
may gods rain many blessings upon for making this video. I joined the game late and don't have the new dlc

ty for all the time you put into that. 😀
The lore is actually quite interesting, hope Destiny 2 conveys the lore better
I hope they make D2 story in the complete game and in the dlc make another story for it
really good video, you will get so much views
"If you read the cards, you'd know the story!"

Really good video!
Great factual summary.
Amazing video!!
gonna have to watch this 100 times to understand
in the destiny 2 trailers it clearly shows the people with the guardians building the city themselves.
LOVE this video.
This was great!!!
Thank you for this, I can’t play through destiny 1 cause I had it on the 360. And I wanted to redo destiny 2
May 18 is the unveiling of gameplay for D2
Thanks so much for this. I had Destiny on PS4 but I had to sell the PS4 to make ends meet before I got very far in the game. I played the Destiny 2 open beta and loved it so I pre-purchased it for PC. This answered all my questions that the beta left me with.
None of these would lost forever.... Lmao made me turn on captions
Well done!
Nice vid now Im fullt up to speed! Bern Playing D2 for a Whitle not knowing the original lore
Great job 👍🏻👍🏻
Damn I wish I'd watched this before playing in the PC beta. That first mission gives absolutely zero context for anything that's happening and this video would have helped immensely.
awesome job bro
I show this to anybody who says destiny doesn't have a story
this is great
Thanks mate. Thanks a lot.
When you have a 3 year old videogame with 4 expansions and the length of the story is a video of 15 minutes... XD
SabalastroBoy I mean he didn't dive into the obscene shit like the fundament, Iron Lord legends, warlords, and Vex simulations
The vanilla Desty was ripped of content in every level If a company need DLC to complete a game is screwed up, or is a Scammer company. I play Destiny since year one (with breaks there and there) so no" you are a hater" or "Why commenting on a video of a videogame you don´t like or don´t play".
Having a lore OUTSIDE of the game is super lazy and leaves a vacuum of content in it.
Dude, there's hours upon hours of Grimoire for people who care to dive into the lore.
Outside the game, it cut the immersion if you have to leave the game to learn what the fuck is happening in there, is a really bad choice in development, and i care to dive on this but it was a stupid choice to leave that outside the game.

thx for the review
Thank you !
This is great and all.
Well done 👍
Really cool thx for that
Great story teller
I'm really hopeful that Destiny 2 does a better job at storytelling. The whole time I was watching this video, all I could think is "man it would have been nice to know this while I was playing".
Awesome. Very well done. I'm glad somebody could make some sense of that horrible story.
Dr. Jeffrey L. Jackson it's not horrible, it just utilizes a different median for story telling that people aren't used to. You read one grimoire card, it leaves you with a question so you keep searching and searching. I actually enjoyed it because I only knew as much as I wanted to know. I controlled how fast or slow I gathered information.
The lore is very interesting, I agree. And you make a great point that we are not used to looking outside the game for information about the lore.
I do think there should have been a complete story in the game. The cards should have also been in the game for those willing to explore more of the backstory. Perhaps something like the methods used in Mass Effect and Dragon Age.
