- SPOILERS Here's the lore behind Destiny's Vault of Glass Raid, from Vanilla Destiny! The raid's lore speaks of the Vex within the Vault and their ability to control time, and of a brave fireteam (Kabr, Praaedyth & Pahanin) that failed to defeat Atheon and the Templar.

Imagine going in with your 6 fireteam frienss and you KNOW if someone gets caught from a gorgon they will be ereased from time, and you and everyone will forget he even existed. And then that moment when a forgot spots your dear friend and and fear and panic kick in and then BOOM!. You continue on with only 5 five members like nothing ever happened.

Because the importance of the raid and the certain actions you need to perform within the vault are truly understood. The sacrifice that was made by the other guardians to insure your success also conveys a sense of vengeance, of honouring the fallen guardians before you.

I've always wanted and wondered what Destiny would be like if we had a library type location where our Guardian's could read the grimoire we collect, now, I think I just want Byf to voice a character called The Librarian who's job it is to capture our imaginations with lore and stories like this...

I cannot help but think of the irony of all the main enemy factions in destiny:
-The Fallen want to become great by acting like theives
-The Hive sought meaning, only to be damned into an endless cycle of meaningless violence
-The Vex sought to be free of time, only to becomes slaves to the pattern
-The Cabal are devoted to war, but are plagued by inefficient military doctrines
-The Taken had everything unnecessary cut free, but need a master
-The Splicers and Scorn seek to become more than Fallen by re-enacting all of the Fallen's mistakes
-And The Darkness, harbinger of simplicity, tells a convoluted tale of lies and half-truths about the origin of the universe

And the Light, the being of peace brings back dead soldiers to shoot the shit outta whatever it thinks needs shooting
And the Traveler, brings creation to all but leads destruction to where it goes.
The light heals life but ironically have destruction following its "tracks"

15:00, I think it is safe to say we can be sure the cleanse spot is Kabr's doing. As the Aegis card reads:
"I have made a wound in the Vault. I have pierced it and let in the Light. Bathe in it, and be cleansed. Look to it, and understand"
That spot is where he created a rift in the pocket dimension of the Vault. Or to put it another way, he was a Striker Titan, and he punched the Vault so hard, he actually broke a hole in it on a dimensional level. That wound in the vault allows the light from our world to flow through to the Vault.
As you discussed in the lore stream, Guardians are paracausal, making them beyond the Vex's influence and abillity to change. Being marked for negation means the Vex have decided we are not allowed to exist here, but the light allows us to override that decision, and reject the Vex's laws that govern the Vault.

Hopefully they weave the storytelling in a bit better this time around. I killed Atheon either first or second week it was out, and only just now with this video had any idea of what we did in the Vault.

This seems like the quintessential Byf video. I can't really describe it... It's like the "X-factor" that makes Byf so deep is stretched across a half hour of uranium-dense lore. The chills, the awe, the mesmerizing insight was consistent throughout. The music was perfect, synergizing with every key moment. If the Vex themselves were watching this, they would approve of Byf's comprehension of The Pattern, as few organics ever could.

This finally makes sense now. Guardians broke into (effectively) a lab of the vex, while the vex try to defend their lab with their security guards, but failed, so they have to use their test subjects, which is more than a overkill TBH.
This video was amazing! I'd like to add this thought though. I believe that when we get our weapon buff during Atheon it is because all versions of ourselves from the infinite timelines are all converging slightly into our timeline, all of us shooting. Because we are paracausal we defied the vex in every single timeline we faced them in. So essentially when we're damaging Atheon "all versions" of ourselves are shooting him at the same time.

The way you tell the story is the greatest way to show the depth of the lore. The visual aspect you provide for the imagination helps make these videos some of the greatest lore videos of Destiny.

Great vid. I love the lore of the Vex and the Vault. There's something extra noble about Kabr's sacrifice to me. To risk death is heroic to be sure, but to risk being nothing, to be lost and forgotten to all you loved and all who loved you, to chance never having even existed, that takes galactic balls. Kabr himself refers to him being a 'wound' in the Vault, but I actually think the design of the Aegis is telling. It's an item of permanence, it's a touchstone, a thing not only that the Guardians can protect themselves with but also cling to. Something that is solid and immutable in the ever shifting sands of time within the Vault. I like that it physically represents an idea that allows 'normal' human minds to understand and navigate the system. No matter how the Vex change causality, the Aegis is there, and so are we, continuing the fight across all of eternity.

Kabr, Pahanin, Praedyth, these are some of the names of those who follow the path of Osiris, are we willing to do the same? Or are we more like Saint-14 recognizing the fault in his ways and will go out to hunt down someone who's ideas alone can kill.
Always love the extra lore, the way you write them really brings you into the story and makes it come alive.
Well done Byf! Your videos of lore and time spent writing the scripts is what makes destiny exciting again for me. While playing the game, I don't feel the story at all, but these videos breathe new life into the experience, thank you.
Destiny 2 is cabal and the expansions are osiris and rasputin, when are we gonna learn more about the vex? Their origins, whats beyond the vault of glass (i assume theres more, it seems odd the centre of their race and culture is on venus and not in the solar system they came from) and if theres higher ranked vex then atheon. I feel like the osiris expansion will be the vex history on mercury and not the whole vex history
L Ruddy I believe osiris has quite a bit to do with the vex so maybe in that DLC we find out more about them overall and not just mercury

Them and the hive are definitely the coolest of races and more information on them would make a lot of people happy, what about a raid with different timelines you could travel through which could make every encounter different like if your team could split up making it harder whilst getting more rewards or if the encounters are random, i kinda rambled on but more vex = cool

Traveler is discovered in either 2014 or 2016 (D2 releases in 2014, takes 2 years to get to mars and the traveler being discovered is said as present day) and human life span increases to around 270-300 years, and since the golden age lasted atleast 200 years Snoop could've been made into an exo

Praedeth was a great dummy who didn't listen to myself or Kabr, we would get the ascendant mats chest together, obviously he ran ahead and he was trapped forever with the chest... Kabr and I pushed on, Kabr succumbed to the oracles when Atheon teleported us and I only escaped because I received something called an "errorcode baboon" and found myself in orbit, I then started playing the Trials of Osiris, where I ran into Dredgen-fucking-Yor and his groupies and he shot me twice in the head and ran away around a corner where he left me to burn to his dreaded Thorns Poision rounds, we lost and I stopped going into any Crucible matches or anything against guardians, I still fight the darkness every so often but the truth is the Vex eventually came for me and threw me into a time tear, I found myself on a battlefield with 40 ft robots and weapon fire from auto rifles from scout rifle ranges, they call this place Titanfall 2... Needless to say I like it better here... :)
I honestly hope this comments section recognises this as harmless banter, bring on Destiny 2, hopefully PvP isn't part of D2 but it's popular so they'll throw it in without any thought, again... If it's developed properly then I'll be okay with it :)

This is by far your best lore video. I am honestly stunned at the level of quality within the video. You need to talk to Bungie about being a voice actor, even for a small character.
Byf you are amazing. I feel like I'm in another world whenever I listen to your lore series. I get a much deeper understanding of each race and how they operate and why they are who they are. If I were a real guardian, I'd want you to be my ghost.
