  • A profile of and tribute to one of America's most prolific,
popular and award-winning composers. From the theme to the
television show "Peter Gunn" to distinctive scores for the films
"The Pink Panther" and "Hatari!" (Baby Elephant Walk) to hit
songs "Moon River" and "The Days of Wine and Roses," Henry
Mancini has given film and television a distinctly American
score. Mancini recalls a brilliant career with help from his
wife, Ginny, and friends Julie Andrews, Andy Williams and Blake
Edwards. This was Mancini's last interview, as he died five weeks later on June 14, 1994.

I love music and musicians and all styles and eras. But it's Henry Mancini's music that makes me cry, for hearing it again strikes chords and memories from my youth, when these songs and scores when they-- and I-- were new, fresh, and growing up and old together. Hard to put into words, but in a way, Mancini scored my life and many memories stir still at the sound if his beautiful, ageless music. RiP, Henry, and great job to those who made this tribute.
