My dad loved Mike Tyson and we got to meet him at an airport in NJ when I was about 11 years old and Mike was very nice to me and my dad.. he signed my sneakers, hat, shirt, and $100 bill that my dad had and I still have all of those items including a few pictures of him signing everything and my dad paid to have the shirt and $100 bill framed and the hat and sneakers are in a glass case that sit on my mantel now.. I couldn't help but carry over my father's love for Tyson because how great he was as a boxer and how great he treated me and my father.. One of the last conversations me and my father had was about Mike Tyson and how he would be looked at in the future.. my dad was ahead of his time too because he always watched Mayweather and said that he would be great.. I hate my father didn't get to see how great Mayweather became but he definitely enjoyed the Tyson Era and I enjoyed spending time with him..
I've watched over 5 decades of boxing. Tyson is without a doubt the most compelling, brutal, vicious, savage fighter I have ever seen. He was a true force of nature... capable of exploding at anytime. He was also sublimely talented. If he had maintained Kevin Rooney as his trainer, he would've achieved much, much more. Loved watching him.
If 1986-1988 period Tyson fought Lewis at his peak, or Holyfield at his peak, then it would have been very interesting. I’m not sure who would win to be honest.
Once Biggs got hit he got scared you could see it all over his face and he wasn't so confident after that, totally changed after that first hit..he felt the power of Tyson.. amazing!
Think he was scared before as well. He didn't really have confidence in his abilities, he had some tough fights before Tyson against journeymen and hasbeens.
This fight shows how patient Tyson was from round 1 and on. People only remember the Buster Douglas defeat and Holyfield ear biting Mike Tyson. That Tyson was a product of Don King and others that surrounded him for money. No one remembers from 1985 to 1990 (before Don King), Tyson showed great head movement, footwork, defense and patience. At times, if he wanted to, he could be a decent counter puncher and everyone talks about Wilder being the most devastating puncher ever but, Tyson in my opinion holds that title.
By dissing Tyson in 84, Biggs accidentally gave him the motivation he needed to train even harder and show his true value to the world. Tysons discipline as far as training is concerned is nothing short of astounding. That man also applied that same level of discipline towards bettering himself as a person in his later years. His entire life has been a nonstop battle towards perfection. After his boxing career was over he began reflecting on himself and has continued to grow as a person and i find his psychological progress as impressive as his boxing achievements, possibly even more impressive. Bottom line is, Tyson gives it his all and doesnt let any form of defeat to stop him.
Well said. I read in a book about Tyson's life that when he lost in the Olympic trials, team mate of his didn't know the Mike had already lost his fight to go for the gold, and he told Mike, " good luck in your fight." Tyson got sloppy and more lazy after Cus died, he went onto win the championship like promised them just got sloppier. This was early in his career, absolute prime Mike Tyson was short lived. The look that Tyson gave Biggs after the remark was clearly, “You’re in for a long night, pal! I saw Iron Mike on ESPN Thursday night at the fights in 86. My dad and I said this guy is going to destroy everyone he faces. I think he’s still one of the best heavy weights ever!
Young Mike was so fast, so graceful with his footwork and head movement and at the same time his punching power was horrifying and his killer instinct was unmatched, you'll never see a heavy weight called the fastest in the division and the most powerful, it should be impossible
There's no one that can match me. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart, I want to eat his children. - Iron Mike Tyson
@Kenneth Moaratty- So did George Foreman. Just as Ali took him to school, Ali would have taken Tyson to school. There will never be another Ali. Ali was the baddest of all time.
Illuminatti tip o the hat to the Baphomet. Their symbolism will be their downfall. Impressive warrior tho. Growing up in a boxing family, i understood being cruel when you impose your will. Killer instinct. My uncle was a master at that. Tyson...oo boy. Ask Spinks..
@TheShqipe98 out jabbed Ali? No chance. Ali was too quick and too clever for Liston. Even the so called "phantom punch" is utter nonsense. The punch hit clean on the temple and if you watch it in slow motion you can see the force it connected with as Listons head jolts back. Liston was a great boxer but no comparison to Ali.
Don King, Robin givens, Robin givens mother, and some others we have you to thank for totally ruining the heavyweight division. Tyson needed to be on a short leash with good people. It really was a shame to watch that man go downhill. I'm truly glad to watch that man get his life back. However how much great boxing did we get cheated out of because they messed with his head.
What a shame, that he wasted so much time on those vampires. His potential was in orbit, and they were lower than worms, dragging him down. Good comment, thanks

Mike Tyson is a good example of how people treat others if theyre different. People put him on this pedestal as a legend but think Tyson is unintelligent because he has a lisp and is a fighter. Young Mike was so fast, so graceful with his footwork and head movement and at the same time his punching power was horrifying and his killer instinct was unmatched, you'll never see a heavy weight called the fastest in the division and the most powerful, it should be impossible

Boy, do I miss those days. Once you knew one of your friends bought the PPV, you immediately made a call - got your pals together and threw a few bucks each to cover the cost of the fight. The pre-fight buzz was absolutely electric - such great times looking back at how much of an event this was watching all the under cards just to see Mike beat the living shit out of a can of soup in a few short rounds or less.
Yes.getting friends together to wstch a tyson fight was a must. And then after go out on town with friends. But tyson fight was the pre-party.
Good ole days. Last time I chipped in for a fight was Shane Moseley vs Mayweather. That fight proved to me boxing matches were fixed.

Grew up immersed in the Tyson era, and I never viewed Biggs as much of an obstacle. Always seemed to be somewhat soft. A great amateur boxer who didn't translate into a tough pro. The early fighters that I thought matched up best with him were Tucker and Green. The guy who fought Tyson tough that I didn't see coming was Tillis.
