The amount of money that was thrown around that night for gambling. The stakes were absolutely high. Sports has a real shady element to it given gambling being a major part of it.
And boxing/ufc? It's literally human dog fight rings. Take the sexy women, boozr and glamour out the equation and the whole thing is really grimey.
Imagine getting hit with a sledgehammer. Mike was blessed with strength. Anyone calling Golota a coward wouldn’t last 10 seconds with Mike.

Galota seemed to be the only one who understood how bad his injuries were. There comes a time to decide what is and isn't worth dying for. Quitting was the right move.
I love how they bring up the injuries he sustained and just only two rounds with one of the hardest punching boxers in history. A man who everybody knows when he enters the ring he wants nothing more than to lay you on the floor and they still call this guy a coward because he got tired of being physically hurt and broken in a ring. It's actually kind of sick that people believe that someone should continue and allow themselves to get even more messed up when they know themselves that the fight is over.
If his corner had called it when he said to it wouldnt have been nearly as big of a deal too. "Fighters trainer, under medical advice calls the fight!" is a much more mild and normal headline than "THE FUCKING GUY QUIT"

Everyone wants to be a badass but I think there comes a time when we know our body is actually under true danger of being ruined, that we all start to think of the simple things we love to do that we might never be able to again. As a former Pro MMA Fighter I really feel his trainer was negligent in forcing him into the second round. He could havee really gotten hurt bad going out there like that. Also a trainers 1st obligation is to the safety of his fighter. I get trying to talk him into going back out but when he is adamant about not continuing the fight should be stopped. Also had the trainer called it from the corner it would have saved him some dignity as opposed to having to walk out of the ring becuase no one would listen to him

I was talking all sorts of badness about the Kat when he quit, but for real...The crowd was a mob and throwing things...wanting to put his head on a stick or something. People talk about how his mental broke down. For real...you know you know you are broken...and the one person you're supposed to trust basically throws you back out with DISREGARD. Not a pep talk....And you go...All battered and with nothing left...to get hurt more. The trainer mentioned something about disgrace...and on the way out with all those injuries...getting hit with drinks...AND ITS TELEVISED... I'd have to ask...How easy would anyone judging gone through the same and not have some trauma issues?

He didn’t quit. He wasn’t listened to. He respected the fight and glad he fought with the legend. If his team didn’t listen to him, he had to do what he intended to do, so he did.
The more I watch the video the more I see how he kept fighting and punching Mike knowing he already lost the fight. That right there says so much about a man.

Mike was a front runner. He had no character. Look for Teddy Atlas’s opinion of him. Yes a very good puncher, one of the best, who would have been beaten by Ali, Holmes, Joe Louis and many others. Watch his fight with Pinklin Thomas. This is the guy who had to bite an opponents ear almost off to get out of taking a beating. Mike was a great puncher not a great fighter.

My uncle was in the 7th row at the Tyson/Golata fight and he said that the sound of Tyson's punches landing from the beginning of the fight made everyone beside him wince and say "oh my GOD!"
I was there that night. I knew he was going to quit after Mike landed the first body shot. I don't blame him I would have quit too.

No one ever steps into the ring for a "game" of boxing. It's a hard lesson in your own abilities & shortcomings & there's no hiding places. Anyone who stepped up to face Mike Tyson has my respect as they knew beforehand what he was capable of & what the likely outcome of a fierce punch to the head is. Galota's previous notoriety followed him around but only *he* knew of his limits. Boxing on against Tyson with injuries such as he had could've been fatal & whilst it's easy to call someone a coward, it's impossible to really know Galota's mental health.
ANYONE that gets in a ring with Mike Tyson should get an award just for being there.

He almost died, I respect him, He took the most humiliating option. It was the hardest decision in his life, the man stepped in the ring, took a beating and went back in for seconds. Yes he quit in the first round but he still went in, How are they questioning his character. Some guys would have taken that first punch and just stayed down, they would have taken the count and no one would have said anything, but because he tried on 2 separate occasions, the first being the knockdown, and the second was returning to the second round. The man did much more then others would have ever dared, shame on the disrespectful commentators.

Dude did absolutely nothing wrong- Mike hurt him BAD. If he kept fighting, he could have sustained a life-changing injury. There’s no cowardice in recognizing when you’re completely outmatched, especially after the dude literally breaks your face in round 1
I seem to remember Tyson saying similar things between rounds in either the Holyfield or Lewis fight. "I can't do it" etc when he was taking a beating.

I think context is important. Golata would never be in the same zip code as the word smart. But he did do the correct thing here by quitting. Golata was a bully and behaved as such in his other fights, he won't get any respect from me. But I won't penalize him from withdrawing from this fight.

Golota looked reluctant in the first round. His trainers didn't work on him psychologically but picked up in the second round. He's a hero for his well-being.

the guy was never a coward, he just wants to live and be with his wife and children till his old, I look for the guy and google him and on other social media, the guy looks content and happy being with his family, he's still with the women he married 30 years ago. that right there is an achievement. As soon as Mike left Kevin Rooney everything started going down hill. It's a real shame. I believe if he would have continued with Rooney he would have retired undefeated. After Rooney he lost his head movement and became completely unprofessional in his training and competing

Yes and I think it affected Mike a lot when Cus Dmato passed. He did well but he goofed around and lost some of discipline. And he lost 3 good years of his prime in prison which was unfortunate.
Losing Cus was what really made the difference. He became less of a human, but at least Rooney helped him remain a good fighter. Don King was a vulture.

As I see it, Andrew Golota knew it was over after feeling that first hit. Remember, he lost two Championships because of dirty tactics, but was unprepared for an opponent who's punch can actually break bone. Once that hit connected, he was basically done for. He knew he was not going to survive the onslaught. He realized that it was better to throw in the towel and still have a recognizable face, that to throw it all away just to seem tough.

Also, you may as well be willing to risk damaging your hand for a one-punch KO - in high-pay-day fights. I don't the gloves are to protect the hands only. They are also to protect the life of boxers.
@@GraduateMonkey no, it doesnt work that way. Look at Bare Nuckle Championchip (or something like that). Without gloves u do more cuts, but the real damage is way higher with gloves. First of all the reasons i mentioned before, second there is more mass (weight of the glove) hitting your head.

Many other fighters half of his size, and didn't have even half of his punching power, stood toe to toe until the fight was over, fight was stopped, or there was an KO. He agreed to the fight. To put in bluntly and plainly he just didn't have as much balls as he thought he had. He got cut and wanted to quit because he knew there and then what he signed up for and knew that he didn't have the heart to fight. Quitting and giving up, RUNNING AWAY, was easier than manning up, following through with what he signed up for, and seeing it out. Even if it ment a knockout

Man the Palace is basically my backyard, can’t believe they got rid of it along with the silver dome. Luckily i got to see ALOT of monster jams, WWE, and ALOT of Detroit Viper hockey games there but never seen the pistons play, i also got to play a football game through parks and rec league at the silver dome and it was the only game we won that season lol but i never seen a Lions game there, still have pictures from that game, my uncle brought a crazy good camera for the times (2002) and i got to keep the memories. But seeing Tyson would have been even better than any of that, too bad i was born in 90 a but too late.
He showed real bravery in standing up and saying he’s had enough. He could have faked knockout or something but chose honesty. Mike Tyson was no one to be messed with.
I respect this boxer a lot. Knowing when to quit is one of the most important things in life. Quitting too early is not good and quitting too late or not quitting in a losing situation can be catastrophic. The problem in this fight was his shitty corner.. If you get massively injured in a fight, it is the corners biggest responsibility to protect you. And this corner was just ignoring him.. total garbage. Besides, in heavy weight boxing many people are afraid of the competition. They just would never show that, but that is one of the main reason that the boxers appear to be such egomaniacs.. they have to convinve themselves constantly that they are better. Also, Mike Tyson said that he was afraid before every fight.
