I worked at a convenience store in Tulsa next to the gym where Tommy worked out. He came in quite often. Say what you want, but the man was genuinely nice to us and even called me by name when he would see me. RIP my friend.
My dad told me about him when I was really little.. imagen loving something so much that you just don't want to give it up. Having that back then was a death sentence. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.. today he could have been at undetectable levels and still did stuff in boxing maybe not be the heavy weight champ at 50 but still do what he loved.. it sounds like he just gave up rest in peace Duke
"But see me as an individual who had the opportunity to be a role model.....but blew it". What a powerful statement. Utmost respect to that gentleman for having the courage to say that. RIP.
I met Tommy a few times. He lived in the county just 20 minutes away from me. He was a very nice and friendly guy. He didn't act like he was better than anyone. He's truly missed.
Nah it ain't bro. I fucked his ass on fight night champion he went down like a bitch bro. Then again he was facing God. Obviously this is a joke. Boxing will never die.

There is a video of one of his last interviews in Feb of 2011. Called Still Standing. I saw it several years ago and was shocked. I was a big Morrison fan and hated the path he took.
Klitschko said Mercer had the toughest chin he had ever seen, Tommy's camp going for the KO against Mercer & Tommy getting gassed early was a big mistake sadly.
Mercer was always able to deal & take like few boxers could. To ME...Morrison was the same. To ME...the Greatest of ALL TIME may belong in a "TIE" (AGAIN, TO ME because we'll never know) in Ali & Tyson; but so many boxers throughout history from Louis to Mayweather Jr. have & HAD something to offer the world of boxing. With Tommy Morrison, it's a clear "Rise & Fall of a Boxing Legend" no matter how one views it.
@@shownincryption9003 Are you a grave digger, the reason I ask this question is the following, reaching for the lowest common denominator. Now, to answer your question. Yes, I would share blood as in give it, not to receive it. That has nothing to do with friendship, that is simple common sense.
It was sad to see Tommy's life end the way it did, he was a fantastic boxer-puncher that could have been soo much more if it wasn't the virus. Who else is a fan of the duke? I hope you enjoyed the video guys!

I knew tommy had died young and contracted HIV, but this was heartbreaking. I never knew about the rapid aging he went through. I just can’t picture him as anything other than the shredded baby faced kid, seeing him age decades in such a short time is just crazy. He could’ve been an icon for HIV awareness for years to come, he would’ve been huge for helping silence the stigmas that come with the disease since he comes from the most traditionally macho sport in the world
Agreed. Clearly out, Mercer landed numerous blows and was obviously trying to injure and seriously damage his opponent. Couldn't believe it was allowed by ref who was blocked by Mercer. Dirty and no class. Several lethal shots after ko.
In Greece we say: ''I know my enemies, it's my friends that i am afraid of'' which means we know that many-many times the people that we knew as friends betray us in the first difficult moment. If someone stay to help us in that moment HE IS a real friend. Tommy Gun RIP.
It's sad that he put his friends and family at risk of getting HIV and then just ignored the fact that he ever had it in the first place. What a piece of shit
I will always respect a boxer who was so well spoken and didnt talk trash, Tommy had a lot of respect for every single fighter he fought and he prefered to show his abilities in the ring. RIP.
Wake Up, man !!! If he had any "respect" for the fighters he faced, he wouldn't have continued fighting after he learned that he had AIDS. He was a Selfish PUNK for exposing other fighters to AIDS !!!
@@hugocanuto6981 why would it be a joke? He is a waste and a useless drifter. He just cruises through life on his natural talent but put in zero hard work and then easily started abusing drugs after fall from fame truly a weak and pathetic individual.
Not quite. Tommy took shots at Mike Tyson when he was clearly unjustly accused of rape by that golddigger and put in prison. Tommy made some televised comments about Mikes behaviour when he was clearly no choir boy himself. And the comments were primarily based on the FALSE RAPE ACCUSATIONS. Tommy was obviously taking major advantage of his "Great White Hope Status" he was receiving from the media and public and he ran with it right into a MACK TRUCK!
so i guess Rocky V sorta predicted Tommy's real world fate not his death but his surrounding himself with the wrong crowd like the Promoter in the movie
I think one of the darkest secrets was Resto's gloves. Padding taking out and plaster under the hand wraps. Ultimately killed Billy Collins in the end. Way too sad.
There are many really dirty stories in boxing, but that was clearly one of the ugliest I have heard about. Restos coach Lewis shouldve gone to jail as well for that deed!
This is one of the best boxing videos I've ever seen. Time to time I come back to this video, and moarn the tragic and unfortunate career of Morrison. I learnt so much more than I knew about him. And also, how you guys make the montage, how you choose the score, really gives the right aura about the sport, it's perfect. It perfectly narrates that period of heavyweight boxing, the 80s were wild as hell. And so that's so entertaining. And so informative. Love you guys.
check out the Eric Hunley interview with his widow and hear the other side of the story. I got to edit that video for the channel and it paints a very different story.

The thing I remember about Foreman is that he would basically let his head take the shots and cover his stomach. His stomach was where he was soft, he was okay with you beating on his head
When I first saw Mr. Morrison box I saw awesome skills, when Mr. Mercer knocked Morrison out in such a ruthless display it actually broke my heart And then when he said that he tested positive for H. I. V I knew that the world was gonna lose a special fighter. And then when he passed away I actually grieved. So Tommy I will see you in paradise, where u will always be the champ.

this video was insane, the editing, research and just the overall time spent to make this is unbelievable. I felt like it was a TV show tbh. much love bro keep the great content coming !
Yeah, Shocking actually. He got hammered 3-4 times after he was visibly out. Bad on the ref and kind of cruel of Mercer. Have fun. : ) Edit: Mercer asks after the fight? "Why didn:'t the ref stop the fight. I mean, I could have killed him." What strange values some people have.
Still one of the most brutal late stoppages in boxing I’ve seen. Sad story all together man but he still lived more and achieved more than the overwhelming majority of people ever will.
Jasmine Owen - When you’re unleashing a vicious combo trying to finish your opponent in such a high stakes fight where your belt is on the line most people don’t stop until it’s stopped by the ref. Adrenalin and wanting to be sure you get the W plays a part. Anyways, he wasn’t called “merciless” Mercer for no reason.
It’s such a sad story. To see how he looked at the end of his life, shocking and sad. To say that he had so much promise is an understatement. Plenty looked up to him. He needed wise counsel when he gained success to keep him level headed and on track. He didn’t have it or if he did, refused to listen. He seeemed to get HIV fairly early in the disease’s discovery. Why he would stop his meds other than financial ruin or medical misery might be a real mystery here. It’s a sad story to me. RIP The Duke.
@Jerry Smith It's the referee's job to come between the fighters when that happens. Unfortunately the referee was sleep walking. Fighters lose control in the heat of the battle, it happens all the time, referees are there to stop the action.
Mercer was a merciless, with murderous disposition. he kept beating his opponent even though he passed out with his eyes closed. and just then he put all his strength into it, with the aim of killing. Just look at the eyes full of hatred and anger afterwards .. other boxers stop, seeing the opponent fall to the ground
@Jerry Smith If it's the fighters fucking job as you put it why is it then that referees in boxing matches have stopped fighters from inflicting more damage countless times? Have you ever seen a boxing match in your life? Boxers continue punching after an opponent is no longer defending himself. It happens all the fucking time.

2:57 - 290 Wins and 263 KO's in the amateurs!!!!!!! That's BY FAR the craziest KO ratio I have ever seen in the amateurs, and with that many fights as well, that's just plain nuts!!!!
@@LiberalsGettheBulletToo exactly right. that's what his amateur record wants to point out. not so much about the wins and losses but the KO percentage, since amateur boxing had fighters with head gears on and made to use heavier and bigger gloves so ringside judges can easily see and score punches that are made in a fight. Amateur GOAT's like Lomachenko, Rigondeaux, Teofilo Stevenson, Felix Savon, even the great Roy Jones Jr. and Andre Ward (who went undefeated as an amateur) wasn't knocking people out during their time. That's how unbelievable that amateur record of Tommy had. Crazy power indeed.
@ Then why does every boxers KO ratio dramatically increase as soon as they turn professional and start fighting without headgear? Headgear tends to soften the blow's by around 30%. I know because I've sparred many times with and without headgear. The blows still rattle your head a lot, but they're not as concussive. They're just jarring and you can hear the BANG every time you get hit, especially round the side of the head. Once you get used to it it doesn't bother you much at all. It's just when you start out sparring that it feels dangerous and like you're still going to get KO'ed with the headgear on (which of course you can if someone hits hard enough or if your chin isn't great and/or neck isn't strong enough to absorb the blows).
@@joenobody5913 Lol, I've known about Lomachenko for quite a few years now! He's been a pretty big name in boxing for some time now. He is considered the best amateur boxer to ever compete, but I was just pointing out the ridiculously high KO percentage of Morrison's, combined with such a high number of amateur fights. Normally KO percentages are less than or around 50% in the amateurs once people get into the high numbers, even with big hitters.

Morgan Jones prime foreman was strong but old foreman was smart and don’t get me wrong young foreman might’ve won but old foreman is still a feat even Tyson didn’t want anything to do with him and neither did Larry Holmes but Holmes was scared he’d get ko’d again
He’s story is so sad. I watched him rise to the top, and was so ready for him to fight Tyson. It’s just sad to see your age 20’s hero go down like this. It still makes me sad to this day.
Yea I seen it too. He just got caught in the moment like I did.

That stoppage against Mercer came too late, I think it’s an awful knockout. And seeing that last picture of him was like being slapped in the face.
Love your name. :)
Yeah, Shocking actually. He got hammered 3-4 times after he was visibly out. Bad on the ref and kind of cruel of Mercer. Have fun. : )
Edit: Mercer asks after the fight? "Why didn:'t the ref stop the fight. I mean, I could have killed him."
What strange values some people have.
Rhythm Of The Knight the tua KO of Ruiz was also hardcore . Every so often I watch both
It’s such a sad story.

That Mercer knockout's got my vote for the nastiest KO of all time. Looks more like a Hollywood production than Rocky V ever did.
Razor ruddock has an evil left hook knockout .
Marciano nearly took Walcott's head off with his right hand.
He has two sons that both fight in the Heavy weight division. His son Trey Lippe Morrison is 15-0 with 15 ko and is trained by Freddy Roach
His other son, James, is also undefeated on 14-0-2 with 12 KOs. That power clearly runs in the family genes, even if they haven't been tested all that much yet.
@@Doc92IDH Exactly, I grew up with Trey and he has always been a beast. He has always been a phenomenal athlete. I talk to him everyday, and you would never think he's a boxer, but the power can't be denied. He is currently 14th in the U.S.

GOD Loves us all.
JESUS CHRIST came to seek and to save that which was lost. HE came into this world to save sinners. All humans have sinned except JESUS CHRIST. JESUS lived a perfect life yet died a horrible death for our sins. GOD the FATHER raised HIS SON up from the dead and Set HIM at HIS own RIGHT HAND in Heaven. JESUS CHRIST Shall return again at the appointed time to judge the world in Righteousness. Only those who are born of the SPIRIT of GOD shall be saved in the end. Therefore, to see GOD you Must be Born Again (Jn 3:3). Call on JESUS CHRIST! Ask HIM to save your soul today. Be baptized with water and Receive and Obey HIS WORDS all of your days, seeking GOD'S HOLY FACE in prayer every day and night so that you can be ready when the LORD returns. AMEN.

2:57 - 290 Wins and 263 KO's in the amateurs!!!!!!! That's BY FAR the craziest KO ratio I have ever seen in the amateurs, and with that many fights as well, that's just plain nuts!!!!
Check out Vasyl Lomachenko. His amateur record is 396-1. Probably best fighter out there right now
Knocking guys out through head-guards in 3 round fights is impressive power.
