Hi Jimbo, This is Meshal Alotaibi from Saudi Arabia, I been watching your video for 2 weeks, Thank you so much for your informative and entertaining videos! I recently passed my driving test and it was largely thanks to your clear, honest, and knowledgeable guidance. Your sense of humor not only made learning enjoyable but also reminded me of the good in the world when we have supportive people like you. Keep up the fantastic work - you truly make a difference!
I past at my first go on 1/6/2021 in Miranda NSW. I hired an instructor for one hour then he recommended Jimbo to me. I watched all his videos then passed. I have been driving with my overseas license for a year and half but I had some bad driving habits prior to watching Jimbo’s videos. But now here I am!

What a handy video. After seeing those dashcam video compilations I'm convinced they pass everybody irrespective of how good/bad the student is. And let's be brutally honest; the whole "learning to drive" program just prepares learners to pass a very elementary driving test. I was shocked to discover that passing a driving test for your HR and HC heavy truck licence is easier than passing wind.
@@aerivoa Hi Artisticful if the driving test had a few changes such as 95% pass instead of 90%, a fail if any skill has 3 errors (not just signals and observations) then you would be forced to actually be very good to pass. At the moment the driving test often passes underprepared students and fails better prepared students. Its just a random 30 min drive. It is what it is.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 What a stunningly brutul comment! Fair to say that problem is Australia wide. Scary to read about students who get their licence yet admit to not being able to do a manouevre and weren't assessed on it I learnt to drive in Germany, and later in life did police driver training (1986) and ambulance (1998) driver training (both in Australia) . As you may appreciate, I've seen first hand the result of "not yet competent" at driving. Question for you: any idea what percentage of students sit their driving test not ready? Or are most who fail a product of nerves rather than competence getting in the way? Most instructors may say "it is what it is", but you've gone the extra effort with these videos. Cheers
@@coover65 Hi Coover I think alot of young people get eager for their licence and book it the first chance they can whether they are ready or not. Nerves often play a big role as there is alot of pressure to pass. My remedy for nerves is to know ur stuff. If you know ur stuff then things go much better.
@@aerivoa Hi Artisticful your question opens a can of worms. I dont know the actual facts but Transport NSW (formally RMS) is part of a political organisation so politics come into it. If Transport NSW actually had a test that required students to be really good, most would fail unless they paid thousands in training fees. This wouldn't be good for votes so they do things that are perceived as good, ie a logbook, safer driver course, red and green Pz. All these things make the political party look good without actually requiring much from the voters. Again it is what it is.
Thankyou SO MUCH JIMBO FOR THE TIPS AND HELP , I PASSED FIRST GO WOOHOO. Keep doing what you’re doing cause it’s a great help and it’s better than spending $$$ on expensive instructors!!!.
Hi Jimbo, great videos mate! A couple of questions: 1) what is the recommended speed limit in wet weather? Will you get marked down for not going 10km/h under in wet weather? 2) When you are coming from a single lane turning left/right into a multi-lane street, do you have to indicate which lane you are taking, and if so, what is the correct way to do this? 3) When you are on a T-intersection turning left into a multi-lane street, and the lane on the left is free but there are other cars speeding through the middle or furthest right lane, is it legal to turn into the leftest lane or must you wait until all lanes have cleared? Thanks in advance and sorry for all the questions!
Hi Edotedy 1. You won't get marked for not going 10 under just drive with more space in front and gentler around bends.2. Use the same signal and just jump straight to the lane you want. There is a bit more to lane jumping I'll cover that soon in a video. 3. You can turn with one lane clear but if the car in the second lane changes lane it will hit you and you will be at fault. Low risk option is to go with all lanes clear. Sorry a bit quick with answers but I have to get to a lesson real soon. Hope this helps. If you need more info just let me know.
Great videos jimbo keep it up mate .. i have learnt so much thanks to you . I have test in 2 days and i am confident i will pass first go . Lets see what happens ...
Hi Jim, got my test tomorrow! Failed the first time due to F7 fail item, deciding to do the test in an instructor's car! I'm doing mine in corrimal. Love the videos
Hello, I love your videos. they are very useful and informative. I live in Adelaide. So, I would like to know if the rules of NSW apply to SA as well? Thank you!
The rules would be similar but I don't know how the driving tests are in SA. I did hear that you just pay an instructor alot of money and that's how you get your licence but I don't know if that is true or not.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 Hi Jimbo! Thanks for your prompt reply. Much appreciate it. Anyway, I will continue to watch your videos and master the rules inorder to drive safe and sound. ❤🙏
My best advice Mahfuzur is know your headchecks, stop at stop signs, try and stop at yellow lights if safe, keep under speed limits, don't put the examiner in a position where they have to stop the car or intervene and most importantly keep watching my vids :) Good Luck dude :)
Hi. Another excellent video. Is 3 strikes out a good preparatory mechanism but isn't an actual metric is it? What I mean is I couldn't find in the rulebook all I found was there should be no immediate fail items (1 strike out) and otherwise overall score should be 90%+
Hi Jimbo, If someone walks on the road in the suburban area and I drive behind them and they have no idea that I I there, would it be OK to use a horn during the test? Thank you
Thanks Jimbo sir for all the awesome videos.. You are helping the community in a big way.. So thanks I have my test coming up in Chatswood on a Friday 10:45am slot (as advised earlier ☺), any tips for Chatswood as a route? Also another question, how practical is 3 second rule as it is relative to speed as I might need less space if I am at 40k per hour vs 20km per hour. How should I manage that in the test?
Hi Amit I dont know about Chatswood but if any viewers do then please post here. The 3 second following distance is not marked if your speed is 20km/h or below. Once you go above 20km/h it starts getting marked. The fail item is marked if you are 1 sec or less behind the car you are following and not actively in the process of increasing it. Good luck on Friday (today or next week?). 1045am is a great time to go.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 it's on 6th November ☺.. So I have time to practice. Please upload more FAQS and videos as it helps in a big way for me to prepare. Another question, can there be a white solid line on the road while approaching an intersection without a stop 🛑 sign (assuming that the sign is not knocked off) ? Have you seen instances like these? What should we do in these situations?
Thanks so much, Jim! Another great video. I've pushed out my test to Nov, so defo keen to see the detailed version of this one if it's not too much work. I guess the one question I have on this is -- I can't recall the road name but it's in inner west around Dulwich Hill area where there's a road that merges into main road but somehow always gets priority instead of the cars on the main road. I've never been able to figure out why that is but is surely the case even though the cars coming straight on the main road should get priority.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 I'll try figuring it out when I'm in the area next :) (albeit I think there might have been a give way sign for the main road guys) Looking forward to the comprehensive version of this though! Thanks for all your efforts!
Hi jimbo thank you for informative videos but unfortunately i was fail in give way cross street, she told me that i did not stop completely instead i slow down only, but the traffic was very clear no vehicle on cross street, i am giving next hopefully pass.
Hi Jimbo. Thank you for all your videos. Just a quick question on 2:54 - 3:22. You mentioned about priority road. How can I can tell if I am driving on a priority road and does not have to give way to my right going straight if I am turning left when there are no stop/give way signs? Lasly, I do not need to give way to oncoming car turning right if I am turning left on a priority road, right? Thanks again.
Hi Ernest with the priority road you don't see a stop/give way sign or a line across the road in front of you. If you are on a priority road turning left then you will only give way to the right. There are no oncoming cars in your path. There could be pedestrians on your left though that may have to give way to.
Hi Jimbo! You are fantastic!! All ur videos are excellent. U r God sender to me😊. I am doing my test on Thursday. Can you show a video on changing lanes and merging in traffic. Thanks, appreciate a lot!!
Hi Harsha thanks for watching. Good luck on Thursday. I do have plans for a lane change and merge video but it's not planned this week. But in the mean time when you change lanes, check mirrors, signal sufficiently and always check over your shoulder. Keep the wheel straight while do these checks and signals. When merging with other traffic, make sure you get the signal on early and keep checking that the cars in the lane beside you are hanging back and letting you in. Try not to slow unnecessarily while you are looking for this opportunity. Eventually someone does hang back and let you in. Go out and practice this over the next few days in some busy roads.
Hi Jimbo! Some cross streets with solid edge line painted on the Left (parking lane) extending very close to the intersection. I was told if we clipped the painted solid edge line while turning Left is a fail item. Is it true? I thought the rule allows for crossing solid edge line while turning...
Hey man thanks for the videos they have been very helpful, quick question but when I reverse out of a 45 degree/straight on park do I indicate if so which direction?
Hi Marcus whenever you leave a park you actually signal right for 5 seconds. However it looks a bit weird signaling right when you pull out to the left of a 45 or 90 deg park. When Narellan RMS used to do angle park in Camden they allowed either signal to be used. The testers manual doesnt really address this so just use left if you pull out left and right if you pull out right. If i get more info ill edit this post.
Bad luck today, examiner said I never stop in STOP SIGN, which I did for 5 seconds before I turned to the left. I wan't to complain but my car don't have camera in front. I always watch all of your vids to make it sure I did the right thing.
Hi Jimbo, I found all your videos very informative. I have been in Sydney for a year, I have an international license. Do I need to get a learner license before I signup for driving schools?
Hi Carluen if you have been here more than 3months and you are staying then you will need a learner licence. Check to see if your licence can be changed over for a NSW licence without a driving test. Some countries can. A driving school will need the learner licence for their insurance to be valid.
Hi Jimbo, thank you for your wonderful videos, Can I ask you to do a video about 45 degree angle reverse parking please, I try today for the first time could not get 1 park correct for 1 hour trying. Please help sir!
Hi Jimbo, thanks for the great videos you make, you are a legend!!. Just a question, when there are 2 stop signs: one at our way and the other on the right, which car does have the way if they reach at the intersection almost at the same time? They both have to stop no doubt, but who goes first? The one which is on the right hand side? Thanks
Hello payam when it's a non standard intersection you give way to the right and oncoming if you are turning right. So you would give way to the car on the right (other stop sign). You are on their left.
Hey Jimbo, quick question. For instance, two cars come at stop sign on opposite sides. I want to turn right, and the car opposite of me wants to turn right in his/her perspective too. Who has the priority?
I have a question, let’s say a car has parked on the side of the road and they take up a lot of room and in order for me to go around it I will have to cross the double white lines, do I have to indicate to go around the car and across the lines or not?
Thanks for mentioning my name on your motivational video . Can RED P use car own navigation which will also have Bluetooth connection and hand free . Do we get in problem and I bought one navman move130 M nevigater which is hopeless , can you please suggest good navigater.
Hi Bibek unfortunately P platers (red and green) cannot use the navigation function of your phone. So you will have to stick with the GPS units. I use Garmin maybe try one of them.
Hi Jimbo, I watched all your videos and they are of great help! Just a query in regards to cross streets if my car is at stop sign and diagonal opposite road also has a stop sign. My query is if i reached intersection first and turning right and the car diagnolly opposite has not reached stop sign and is about to. Am i allowed to turn right or do i have to wait for the opposite car to stop and give way if the car is turning left or going past my car straight
Hi Sid yes you will need to give way to that car if it is close. 99% of drivers don't stop at stop signs so you can't depend on that to give you time to clear.
Hi Jimbo, thanks for your videos! I wanted to ask, will I get marked down if I cross my hand over the middle to turn my steering wheel? I tend to do this sometimes and don't realise it but am trying to fix this habit.
Hi Celine thanks for watching !. You can cross your hands over the middle but try not to excessively get your hands tangled around. Keep hands on the outside of the wheel and avoid flat hand palming with one hand. You can allow the wheel to slip through your hands coming out of a turn.
Is there any suggestions you might have as to how you would line your vehicle up with a stop line as close need be for assessment purposes if it is hard to see at front of vehicle? Currently teaching my wife and while I am a good driver myself, teaching to drive isn't my strong point.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 hey jimbo. Thanks for the reply. So, my wife passed her P"s today and I have to say, your videos helped immensely, with the aid of some private lessons and what I gave her. We are in Albury, so your videos are having an impact across NSW. She came back from her test deflated, worked up, convinced she had failed and was telling me all things she thought she may have failed at. The testing officer came over and gave her a 106/107 for her efforts. If anything can be taken home from this is that people should try not to stress as much and relax. Thankyou once again
Hi Jamboo , i am going to give C - driving test so i am going through your videos which are very helpful for me ! But just a request can i get 1 mock test from you please .
Whst do you do if you both equally have right of way and get to give way at same time. For example in your 2nd example if car A wanted to turn right. How do you figure out who goes first
Hi turnstyle Here is what Transport NSW has to say www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/safety-rules/road-rules/intersections.html#Givewayruleswheretherearenosigns
Hi Nature yes you can gear 5 to 3 but not until you have slowed sufficiently. I generally get students to gear sequentially down as it's harder that gearing up and there will be times when you need to. I will do a series on Manual maybe next year!!!
This was very informative thank you! I have a question for changing lanes and having to cross over 2 lanes. Do I need to signal and stop signal and signal again to change everytime?
Hi Jimbo, love your videos! They've been a great help as I've been learning. Just have a question for stop signs at an intersection as I got stuck on this situation last week. This is the situation: both you and the opposing traffic have a stop sign. You want to turn right, but there's a queue of traffic opposite you going straight. There are no cars approaching on your right or left. When should you go? I ended up waiting until there was no longer any opposing traffic - in the same way I would act if there were no stop lines on either side. My instructor advised that in this situation I should only give way to the opposing cars that are already stopped or already in the intersection, but that if the opposing car going straight is only approaching the stop line and has not yet stopped - I'm okay to go. This does make sense to me as if I am already stopped, I'm one step ahead of the approaching cars that still need to stop before they can proceed. The road user handbook confused me again though here. The 'Stop sign and line at intersections' page it says "you must give way to vehicles driving in, entering or approaching the intersection [except for stop/give way oncoming vehicles turning right ...]". The "Approaching" usage here has me unsure what I should do in this situation. Thanks in advance!
Hi Rachel i would also give way to approaching cars that are close as most people don't actually stop at the stop signs. If they run the stop sign and hit you, you will be at fault.
Hi Jimbo, I have a question regarding the last scenario. I am standing on the stop sign (carA) and another car (carB) diagonally opposite to me is also standing on the stop sign. Who has right of way if carA is turn right and carB is turning right?
Hi Jimbo. two questions if you could help clarify: 1) if the vision to my right is completely obscured (case in point: near the silverwater test center, there was a truck parked right at the corner of the intersection (to my right) and completely blocked my view to the right side, so i am assuming that stopping and then gently rolling a bit to try to assess the oncoming traffic from the right would be ok in an actual test? becuase the truck was blocking a fair bit of the road view in this case. 2) turning left onto a main road and the traffic light is red to go straight but black (goes off) for the left turn- can i turn left or do i need to wait for the left turn green light to come back on? asking becuase i was told by a friend that if the light goes off you can turn left taking care of incoming traffic from your right. but my instructor said that is only allowed where there is a sign that says specifically to turn with care. just wanted to get clarity on the cases where lights suddenly go off. thanks
Hi Naveed, (1) yes you have to move in very slowly to see better, bend around left if you can and stick you head forward. If its a stop sign stop at the line and then move in. (2) Yes you can only turn left on a red if the "Left turn on red permitted after stopping" sign is display. If you watch my traffic light vid Part 2 you will see it.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 thanks a lot. i had my test today at silverwater (in the rain) and i passed on my first attempt. many thanks to your videos and the confidence they gave in getting it done. wish you more success with your channel.
Hey mate, I know you said the new test route is around gledswood hills, but isn’t that mainly residential with rounded curbs, so would we do paralell or kurb side there ?
I did my kerbside stop and parallel park in Smeaton Grange in a very quiet street. We only just cruised around in Gledswood Hills :). Watch all of his videos and practice everything bro. His videos are amazing.
NoAustralianBias I know they have been very helpful, I failed my test last month while exiting the parking lot 😢, some guy indicated to go into the RTA and slowed down, but last second changed his mind and continued and I had already left, but I just never realised gledswood hills was a testable area
HI Tech, with the new Gledswood Hills course its starts by going into Smeaton Grange and then doubles back onto Camden Valley Way to Gledwood Hills. It does the reverse park in Smeaton Grange as there is no where suitable in Gledswood Hills. The kerbstop could be either location.
@@techunboxings4485 Sorry to hear bro... But yeah practice Smeaton Grange, Gledswood Hills and the main roads with traffic lights and all that. Just be overly careful while not being too slow to make a decision. Good luck next time bro!
@@techunboxings4485 Yes Tech the car park is a test in itself. Many fails there and watch out for that one kerb when you turn left that is blacked with a thousand F3 fail items.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 update!! I PASSED! I nailed the reverse parallel park first go. Only had troubles with signalling when going straight thru round abouts and my hand placement when turning. Thank you for the videos!
Just a question, what are the rules with the use of the reverse camera when doing the park? Some people are telling me that you are not allowed to use it? Thanks 😊
Hi Tristan you can refer to the camera if you find it helpful but you have to keep checking regularly out the back window with your eyes. If you don't then you get an observation error. Three of them and you are out!
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 Heya Jimbo. I passed my test on the first go. I could not do the test on 15th. Especially the mock test videos were extremely helpful. Keep up the good work. Thanks once again. 👍🏼
lets just say your at a cross street and there is a giveway sign and on both sides its really bad vision and your turning right. Your creeping up like your supposed to cm by cm and while you doing that at the moment you still cant see because the road is pretty narrow and the parked cars are just completely blocking your view and you creep up until you have better vision but you are already like half or a quarter over the the give way line and you see a car coming on your right and you know like they will hit your car unless they dont stop, what do you do? The parked cars combining with the narrow road is extra blocking your vision. Did I creep up to much? Even worse if you are in that situation and you creeped up into you are literally half way or a quarter across the line and theres a car coming to your right and then at that unlucky time there is also a car from the left coming as well, do you turn right to avoid the collision with the car on the right or reverse back a little until you are not obstructing the car on the right and then restart the whole process of creeping up a little bit. Im so sorry for the long question and explanation I Just want to know what to do in every situation so on my Ps test I dont get a fail.
Hey mate, do any crossroads have no give way signs/stop signs at all? It came up in my online test and it really confused me. I know you have to give way to the right. However, id assume I’m on the normal road and not have to give way. Please explain
Ok ill will look into this a bit more but here is want i think. If you are turning left then give way to the right only. If you are turning right then give way to everyone left, right and oncoming that is going straight. If you are going straight then slow up and see if there is anyone coming from left and right that look like they are not stopping then back off and give way to them. In all scenarios if no one is giving way to you when they should you should back of and let them go to prevent an accident.

You should every roundabout except those small dome ones. The test examiners only mark the dual lanes ones. By exit signaling on all though, you will make it habit and not forget the dual lane ones. 3 strikes on signals and you are out!
on a traffice light if im coming from the side street and going straight , and other car coing from oppsite side street , but wana turn ( his left ) who will have priority ? where i can fund such funny rules
If you are going straight on a green light you always have priority. If the car on the other side as you say is turning his left he isn't even in your way so there is no reason to wait for him.
@@trap1trap1 Ok if you are on green and going straight and the other car is opposite wanting to turn HIS right in front of you then you go first. You have priority. You do not wait for him. Imagine if YOU were turning right you would naturally wait for oncoming cars to pass before you completed your right turn. You wouldn't expect the oncoming car going HIS straight to stop in the middle of the traffic lights and let you turn right.
Hi C examiners only mark left head check when turning left if there is room to fit a car up the left side. Watch my head check vid and I explain it a bit more there.
You have forgotten Australia’s biggest traffic problem. Aussies don’t know how to use a round-about. There are two rules how to use a round-about. The legal rule and the popular rule. The legal rule is to slow down approaching a round-about and give right of way to the cars already in the round-about or One very _I_M_P_O_R_T_A_N_T__rule is not observed in Australia! A car coming from the left has the right of way if arriving at the round about first or waiting. Here is your Popular Aussi rule: race into the round-about. Disregard everybody except people entering from the right. (as it it was a normal crossing). People coming from the left who legally have the right to enter round-about, if they arrive at the round-about are waiting patiently. These people generally don’t know that they have the right of way!!!!

No worries :)
Hi Coover (again) yes you are right. You can get a HR licence in a day course.

I have my test coming up in Chatswood on a Friday 10:45am slot (as advised earlier ☺), any tips for Chatswood as a route? Also another question, how practical is 3 second rule as it is relative to speed as I might need less space if I am at 40k per hour vs 20km per hour. How should I manage that in the test?
Hi Amit I dont know about Chatswood but if any viewers do then please post here. The 3 second following distance is not marked if your speed is 20km/h or below. Once you go above 20km/h it starts getting marked. The fail item is marked if you are 1 sec or less behind the car you are following and not actively in the process of increasing it. Good luck on Friday (today or next week?). 1045am is a great time to go.

Thanks for videos 🤗
Hi jimbo thank you for informative videos but unfortunately i was fail in give way cross street, she told me that i did not stop completely instead i slow down only, but the traffic was very clear no vehicle on cross street, i am giving next hopefully pass.
Hi Hari sorry to hear that you didn't qualify. Yes if it was a stop sign you have to completely stop. Better luck next time 😃
Very nice voive, useful tech-skill, u will be faurous soon!
You can cross these lines when within 100m of turning left.

@@vyompatel5273 You can turn in front of each other if left and right are clear and no oncoming behind the turning car.
I have a question, let’s say a car has parked on the side of the road and they take up a lot of room and in order for me to go around it I will have to cross the double white lines, do I have to indicate to go around the car and across the lines or not?

My query is if i reached intersection first and turning right and the car diagnolly opposite has not reached stop sign and is about to. Am i allowed to turn right or do i have to wait for the opposite car to stop and give way if the car is turning left or going past my car straight

@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 Ahh I see, thanks Jimbo! I'll play it safe then if I come across this situation again
Hi Jimbo, I have a question regarding the last scenario. I am standing on the stop sign (carA) and another car (carB) diagonally opposite to me is also standing on the stop sign. Who has right of way if carA is turn right and carB is turning right?
hi Shailija in that case both cars can turn in front of each other if there are no other cars that A or B have to give way to.
Hi Jimbo. two questions if you could help clarify: 1) if the vision to my right is completely obscured (case in point: near the silverwater test center, there was a truck parked right at the corner of the intersection (to my right) and completely blocked my view to the right side, so i am assuming that stopping and then gently rolling a bit to try to assess the oncoming traffic from the right would be ok in an actual test? becuase the truck was blocking a fair bit of the road view in this case.
If you watch my traffic light vid Part 2 you will see it.

lets just say your at a cross street and there is a giveway sign and on both sides its really bad vision and your turning right.

If you are going straight then slow up and see if there is anyone coming from left and right that look like they are not stopping then back off and give way to them. @@mlgdumptruck5666 Congratulations MLGDumpTrucks on passing !!! Great work 👍 On there green score sheet there are 2 numbers one for YES ticks and one for NO ticks. If you got 107 YES then there should be a number for NO. Whatever that is then add that to 107 and that's what your score is out of.
Do we have to indicate left when exiting every roundabout?
You should every roundabout except those small dome ones. The test examiners only mark the dual lanes ones. By exit signaling on all though, you will make it habit and not forget the dual lane ones. 3 strikes on signals and you are out!
on a traffice light if im coming from the side street and going straight , and other car coing from oppsite side street , but wana turn ( his left ) who will have priority ? where i can fund such funny rules
If you are going straight on a green light you always have priority. If the car on the other side as you say is turning his left he isn't even in your way so there is no reason to wait for him.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 my bad, i mean right and coming my way
@@trap1trap1 Ok if you are on green and going straight and the other car is opposite wanting to turn HIS right in front of you then you go first. You have priority. You do not wait for him. Imagine if YOU were turning right you would naturally wait for oncoming cars to pass before you completed your right turn. You wouldn't expect the oncoming car going HIS straight to stop in the middle of the traffic lights and let you turn right.
Do i need to do left head check before turning???
Hi C examiners only mark left head check when turning left if there is room to fit a car up the left side. Watch my head check vid and I explain it a bit more there.

What if you stop at a giveway sign for a second?
That usually will be ok. However if you have excellent view and it's clear and you stop for no reason you may get a negative point.
You have forgotten Australia’s biggest traffic problem. Aussies don’t know how to use a round-about. There are two rules how to use a round-about. The legal rule and the popular rule. The legal rule is to slow down approaching a round-about and give right of way to the cars already in the round-about or
One very _I_M_P_O_R_T_A_N_T__rule is not observed in Australia!
