hey Jimbo- just passed at Bondi Junction 2nd time lucky. Its been a long journey for me as my Mum doesn't drive so had no one to teach me. I learnt originally to drive in Spain which was really tricky as it was in Spanish on the right side of the road. I failed to give way in 2011 in Wodonga and was too proud to try again until August last year. Your channel is excellent- could you do more videos on P plater common mistakes or accidents to then drive more safely and defensively- I've passed now and so there is still much more to learn- I don't know how to 45-degree park eg.
Hi Lily such great news that you have obtained your driver's license at Bondi Junction. So glad I could help you out. I had a rest from videos over Christmas but I will get back onto it soon. Thanks for supporting my channel. Stay safe :)
Love the videos, Jimbo! I have my safer driver course coming up on the 28th of November followed by a (hopefully successful) hazard perception test a few days after.
Hi Sara, about the HPT test, I can suggest you to practice on SA hpt or download hpt app in the play store look for the one that have same emblem like SA hpt practice website, and when you go for the test please remember to read and remember the scenario so you can touch or not touch the screen when the clip come up. There are 35 clips in practice but in the test there are only 15 clips if you are in NSW, there might be a few clips that are not in the practice but as long as you practice those you will know how to respond to them because hpt test focus on 5 commons crashes types of P plates driver. I hope this help, good luck, by the way I did my hpt in September and passed first go, so I do not think the test format has change yet.
Greetings, thank you so much for the amazing free lessons. I have free questions that are a bit confusing here. At 4:53..May I know why headcheck on the right while you are trying to turing left? I am bit confused in that area because I thought we should head check on the left if someone is going to jump on the road while you are about to drive. 5:34...the heard check here was it on the left or right?
Hello Inner this particular head check is the one you do when you are first at the traffic lights. I've checked to the right to see if there are any cars still coming through the red light. If you re watch Part 1 of the traffic light vids i explain this more.
11:44 Hey Jimbo, I know this is very late. The diagram on the left, have I been taught wrong by my instructor? My instructor told me to give way to the person turning in front of me otherwise I would be given crosses/failed or something along those lines in the driving test apparently. I’m in NSW too.
Great video! at 11:38 the left pic, if both sides had a stop sign instead and we are Car A who want to turn right and Car B wanted to turn to their right (our left) then which car would go first?
Hi Emily both can turn at the same time. However if there is a second car behind Car B that might go straight we as Car A wouldn't go until that second car was gone.
Hi Jimbo, firstly your videos are very helpful and a huge thanks to you ! You are excellent teacher .My test is soon due at Hornsby & just wondering if it has 45angle park? I am bit nervous and will appreciate your advice/tips to handle this anxiety , any particular tips for Hornsby driving test ? Thanks in advance Jimbo
Hello Chandni thank you for watching :) I dont know exactly re 45 deg at Hornsby but it would be highly unlikely. 45 deg is usually done in regional areas. Re anxiety, unfortunately driving test bring out the worst in nerves. My best advice is to know your stuff, do lots of practice tests in the same area the test is done. Try and do it around 1030am so its just after morning rush but your mind is still fresh. Best of luck :)
Hey jimbo just a quick question about turning at intersections and cutting the other lanes you are turning over. What’s the leeway given for these situations if there is any? Thanks a ton
Hi Megan you can temporarily take one hand off to operate a control ie signal, change gear, scratch face etc. Soon as that's done both hands on wheel. When reversing or during manoeuvres they don't worry about it. Keep both hands on the wheel when waiting say at lights.
Heyyyy great vid thank you for it. I was just wondering for filling out the logbook is it okay if I have put some entries which are not in chronological order?😊
Hi Jimbo.just the very last scenario of the video when u mention we have to give way to car A.. I am confused please help to elaborate more on this. Thanks.
Hi Ruby in the last scenario with the diagram I don't say we have to give way to Car A. In the standard left turn scenario Car A goes first over Car B, in the slip lane scenario Car A gives way to Car B.
Heya Jimbo, not sure if you have covered this earlier so apologies in advance for making you repeat yourself but if we are turning left or right at the traffic light, which lane are we meant to take first? Assuming there are no oncoming cars and all lanes are clear can we take any lane? Sorry its abit of a dumb question. Thanks :)
Hey I have my test on the 19th of November I have other 5 lessons with a driving instructor I am so nervous I feel like I am capable too drive and pass the test but I am so nervous becuase I know how strict they are what’s the best advice for you day your videos help alot
Hi Daria you need to be good in traffic, know your head checks, be good with traffic lights. Make sure your instructor teaches you stuff. The Manoeuvres don't need to perfect but make sure you over lay the headchecks. Also keep watching :)
Hi Jimbo, at 6.55 of your video when we are turning left and giving way to traffic which might be turning infront of us are we not confusing those guys as they may be waiting for us to go first before turning right in front of us? How will they know we have the sign "left turn permitted on red after stopping'. Im actually thinking from this other car's perspective who might be waiting for the car to turn left (which has the sign infront) before cutting to turn rigjt in front of him.
Hi Jimbo! I failed (F1 fail item) my test on sign “turn left on red after permitted” when was a red light I stopped behind the line looked right see any oncoming traffic and judging a safe gap to turn but the examiner told me I failed on a red light 😢
I failed because I didn’t move to right while light change to red for upcoming vehicles, I didn’t noticed about light but i just focus on oncoming vehicles and view just blocked because of one large vehicle in opposite directions
I failed my test today but Im still happy that I failed since the reason why I failed is really the thing that I didnt encounter while having my driving lessons. I turned right and didnt give way to the coming traffic I thought I have the all the right way while the green traffic light was on and all the arrows were black but I should have driven to the center then wait until it is safe to enter the right lane. I almost collided to the other car and the testing officer brake it for me. According to the testing officer that was the only mistake I did but he needs to fail me coz it was really dangerous.
Hi Miss Eli sorry to hear your test didn't work out today. Yes turning with just Green circle (no arrow) is a bit more involved. Yes you have to give way to oncoming. Hopefully you can get familiar with this scenario and pass next time.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 Hi Jimbo, they gave me a learners license, I have an international license and took a driving test to get a NSW full license but I failed. But I will drive in the place where I failed and familiarise all the right turn traffic rules. I watched a video about the right turn as soon as I came home and now I have a better understanding about turning right in the traffic light especially in the traffic light that has no arrow.
Hi Jimbo I have 1 last question: I know coasting can fail me( did once ) however will below be ok in the test?- 1- not the first one in the queue when waiting for red light, can I clutch down then put on neutral ? 2- both sides parked cars, narrow road, I need to be super slow, so I use clutch on and off + break to maintain speed? Thank you so much
Hi Aimee 1. Yes you can put in neutral while waiting at a red light. Don't roll along in neutral though. 2. If your speed is below 5km/h (very slow) then you can keep the clutch in and roll.
Hi jimbo got a quick question again. Just wandering when reversing are you aloud to turn with one hand so you can fully turn your body to look out the back window? Got my test tomorrow morning.
Hi Zoran yes you can steer with one hand when reversing. Try not put your other hand on the examiners seat. Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.
hey if there is a left turn slip lane but there is no “turn left at anytime with care” and there is no traffic lights to control that left turn slip lane, is it appropriate to assume you still treat it as a left turn at any time with care because some left turn slip lanes have a sign and some don’t
I drive a Holden commodore 2001 and I want to use it on my test, but the indicators won’t let me signal off the roundabout, I checked if my indicators were stuffed but my mechanic said these older cars won’t let u use the indicator mid turn, it automatically shuts off, does this mean I can’t use it for my test?
Hi 27 Siana Auaa. This is a strange situation. Ive never known any car unable to signal when exiting the roundabout. If you physically cannot signal out the roundabout then yes that will be a problem. If you can somehow get them to flash at least 1 or 2 flashes then you will get away with that.
Hi Stephanie. Try doing the Hazard perception test as soon as you can. I use mock tests all the time. But first make sure you are clear on everything ie headchecks, traffic decision etc. The mock test will give you an idea of where you are at. You need to find a good instructor. Once you are confident with that then book the test.
At 11:35 When car A is on a standard left turn they don’t give way to car B, unless if there’s a sign “left turn on red permitted after stopping” right?
Hi BrowsOnFleek yes you are right. If Car A has a red and a "left turn on red" sign . Car B may have a green right arrow and turning their right toward Car A Car A has to give way to Car B. If Car A gets green then Car A has priority again.
I’m using my friend car for test, will I get point deduction if I race accelerate a bit more, happening because not use to of that car ? Especially when moving car from a stop point
Hi Shubham if you over rev or accelerate too hard you most probably will get a circle error in the control column code "eco driving". The odd time wont be a problem unless you do it alot. If you get a chance to take that car for a drive before the test that might give you a chance to be familiar with it.
I am a little bit confused now, here in Adelaide, we have some turning left with a sign say turn left on red light permitted ,turn left with care with arrow, then the one without any sign ,for the one without any sign, can I still turn left with red light?
I have a question about kerbstop. When the examiner asks to do a kerbstop is there a certain limit of distance you can drive before completing the manoeuvre?
Hi Maree there is no limit of distance. You don't want to just hook it in though. Make sure you sufficiently signal and do checks before you pull in. Obviously you don't have unlimited space so try and get it done before there is no more room.
In some cases, they’ll tell you to kerb stop after a specific car. They’ll be a certain distance then another car, so they’d expect you to do the stop somewhere in between before the next intersection. Sometimes there’s only really one suitable spot to stop, I did my test today and I was specially asked to “stop after the red car just under that tree” Assuming there’s not a lot of cars and a lot of free space, there should be no limit on distance you can drive :) Hope this helps

Hi Jimbo!! I passed my test at Whetherill Park (my name is Emily). I'll definitely stay subbed keep watching your videos 😄
Great work Emily!!! I've already filmed the next vid pass section I'll mention you on the next one after that. Stay safe :)
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 no worries!
Excellent Video, Jimbo. Thank You, for sharing :-).
Hey jimbo thanks to your videos I passed first go!!
Great news Maree well done!!! what test center did u use?
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 I used blacktown
Great video! at 11:38 the left pic, if both sides had a stop sign instead and we are Car A who want to turn right and Car B wanted to turn to their right (our left) then which car would go first?
Hi Emily both can turn at the same time. However if there is a second car behind Car B that might go straight we as Car A wouldn't go until that second car was gone.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 oh so just checking if both turn at the same time there's no risk of colliding in the middle?
@@emilylay7852 It can be done if both turn correctly. In practice though the one who arrived first often goes first.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 thanks for explaining!
Hi Jimbo! Can you tell me the rules on taking your hands off the steering wheel? Whether it's when turning or when scratching your face etc.
Hi Megan you can temporarily take one hand off to operate a control ie signal, change gear, scratch face etc. Soon as that's done both hands on wheel. When reversing or during manoeuvres they don't worry about it. Keep both hands on the wheel when waiting say at lights.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 Thank you!
Heyyyy great vid thank you for it. I was just wondering for filling out the logbook is it okay if I have put some entries which are not in chronological order?😊
Hi HM, the logbook entries don't need to be in chronological order.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 cheers! thank you so much for replying 😁 I hope you have a lovely rest of your day
@@iDHM01 Cheers :)
Brilliant video. Thank you sir
Thanks Sojo :)
really useful, thank you so much
Heya Jimbo, not sure if you have covered this earlier so apologies in advance for making you repeat yourself but if we are turning left or right at the traffic light, which lane are we meant to take first? Assuming there are no oncoming cars and all lanes are clear can we take any lane? Sorry its abit of a dumb question. Thanks :)
Hi Meleha if you are in a single turning lane then you can "lane jump" directly to any lane.
The context here is we both have red. So the other car is not trying to turn. We can turn on the red if it is safe.
Hi Jimbo! I failed (F1 fail item) my test on sign “turn left on red after permitted” when was a red light I stopped behind the line looked right see any oncoming traffic and judging a safe gap to turn but the examiner told me I failed on a red light 😢
Hi Cool rocks sorry to hear you got F1. Do you know the location of this intersection?
I failed because I didn’t move to right while light change to red for upcoming vehicles, I didn’t noticed about light but i just focus on oncoming vehicles and view just blocked because of one large vehicle in opposite directions
Hi Rajiv sorry to here you didn't qualify. Yes you have to watch the light change and complete the turn.
Hi jimbo ,
My test is on Wednesday whetherhill park.
When will your other video come?
Plz tell me some advice for my driving.
Hi Sachindra it's nearly done. Maybe tonight or tomorrow.
Good explanation
Hi Jimbo I have 1 last question:
I know coasting can fail me( did once ) however will below be ok in the test?-
1- not the first one in the queue when waiting for red light, can I clutch down then put on neutral ?
2- both sides parked cars, narrow road, I need to be super slow, so I use clutch on and off + break to maintain speed?
Thank you so much
Hi Aimee 1. Yes you can put in neutral while waiting at a red light. Don't roll along in neutral though. 2. If your speed is below 5km/h (very slow) then you can keep the clutch in and roll.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424Appreciate your help~ good human 👍🏻🙏🏻💯
Hi jimbo got a quick question again. Just wandering when reversing are you aloud to turn with one hand so you can fully turn your body to look out the back window? Got my test tomorrow morning.
Hi Zoran yes you can steer with one hand when reversing. Try not put your other hand on the examiners seat. Good luck tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.
The Driving Test Guy NSW ok thanks and are you aloud to let the steering wheel slide through your hands back to the straight position?
@@zorangregory972 Yes that is ok to do.
The Driving Test Guy NSW ok thanks. Sorry for so many questions
@@zorangregory972 Not a problem :)
hey if there is a left turn slip lane but there is no “turn left at anytime with care” and there is no traffic lights to control that left turn slip lane, is it appropriate to assume you still treat it as a left turn at any time with care because some left turn slip lanes have a sign and some don’t
Yes that's right. Just exit the slip lane when safe.
Thank bro😊
Hi mate, what area is this 6:53, is this near the Narellan or the Mock test video you did?
No that was in Campbelltown.
Coming from a slip lane, are you allowed to turn left into the lane furthest away?
If so, do you keep the left signal or change to red signal?
You can keep the left signal on if the slip is a modern one that doesn't wrap around much and you just jump directly to the right lane.
Great tips mate!
Glad i could help Jett :)
Hello Jimbo, if there is a bicycle lane on the left and a cyclist in it going straight ahead and I need to turn left, who gives way to who?
You give way to the bike.
My re test on wednesday. Have to nail it this time after that accident last week. 🤞
Good luck!
Goodluck mate!
Yep good luck Rohan give it your best!!!!!
Good luck Rohan
Thank you. To be exact about my last driving test scenario, the scenario of 8:45 in this video is exactly what it was like.
What happens on the last scenario you presented but there is no "Turn left on red permitted" sign? Can you turn on red?
If there is no "Left Turn on Red" sign then you cannot turn on red.
can you also do a video on right of way ? or something like it . I think thats where i screwed last time
Hi AB i have covered priority and give way rules a fair bit with videos for Roundabouts, T intersections, Cross Streets and Traffic Lights.
If you can somehow get them to flash at least 1 or 2 flashes then you will get away with that.
please make a video on right turn at traffic light
Coming up next Muhammad :)
ذرHello jimbo
If the crossing control with light should I wait the light to turn green to turn left or not
If yes why ???
Hey how close to the driving test would you recommend doing the hazard test? Also is it worth doing a mock test with an instructor
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 thanks again(;
@@AlAjal313. No worries :)
Thank you!
I am a little bit confused now, here in Adelaide, we have some turning left with a sign say turn left on red light permitted ,turn left with care with arrow, then the one without any sign ,for the one without any sign, can I still turn left with red light?
No not with that one. The light must be green.
@@thedrivingtestguynsw8424 Thanks,Jimbo
I have a question about kerbstop. When the examiner asks to do a kerbstop is there a certain limit of distance you can drive before completing the manoeuvre?
Hi Maree there is no limit of distance. You don't want to just hook it in though. Make sure you sufficiently signal and do checks before you pull in. Obviously you don't have unlimited space so try and get it done before there is no more room.
In some cases, they’ll tell you to kerb stop after a specific car. They’ll be a certain distance then another car, so they’d expect you to do the stop somewhere in between before the next intersection. Sometimes there’s only really one suitable spot to stop, I did my test today and I was specially asked to “stop after the red car just under that tree”
Assuming there’s not a lot of cars and a lot of free space, there should be no limit on distance you can drive :) Hope this helps
the slip lane if its controlled by traffic lights but the traffic lights are off, what do i do?
Hi Daniel watch here 10:50
Which side do i headcheck for on this part, left or right? 5:41
If you are the first car then check both left and right. If there is space on your left side ie bike lane check left blindspot.
