I came here to say the same thing. She breathes new life into a roll that can easily fall into a caricature of Ellen
She does however hit the "he don't condescANNND" note the way Ellen does and for that she gets extra points. Lol I judge every Audrey by how they hit that one note

Love how the director has chosen to stage it in this production - with Seymour joining Crystal, Ronette and Chiffon's tableau at the song's climax. Audrey left alone center stage in her own spotlight as she realizes she can "learn how to be more the girl that's inside me." Really made me hear the song differently. Just stunning.
They did that in the movie version too.

It's really nice!! Subtle but empowers Audrey in that moment, so it's not only about Seymour the entire song
she has so much stage presence. she's absolutely enchanting. matt doyle might be my favourite seymour, ever, but i can't take my eyes off of joy. the pro recording and cast album are REQUIRED.
I adore Matt as Seymour and I am bummed he is leaving soon.
She’s making it her own in such a beautiful way. No copycat performance here. Also Matt is so good in this role.

Joy has made this her own. She’s effortlessly singing but what an impact. The altered not at “Learn how to be more …” brought me to tears. The apex has always been the preceding “can,” but “LEARN how to be more …. “. Just thrilling. Wish I could get to NYC when she’s on.

i just saw this in person yesterday but it was with jermey jordan. she is so outstanding and i desperately wanted to find her singing this song again because she had me in tears.

I saw her on stage yesterday. They’re not going to get a better Audrey than her for the rest of this production’s run. Her performance was so heartbreaking, so sincere, so endearing. I hope she gets a ton of offers and opportunities. She deserves to become a big thing.

Her last "suddenly Seymore" at 3:00 is unreal... She takes the "Sey" down mid-syllable, then pulls "more" up mid-syllable perfectly and I had to listen to it at .25x like 20 times to understand what she was doing and how. Stunning.

I saw her back in winter 2022 when she was an understudy. She was absolutely phenomenal and my favorite Audrey I’ve ever seen. I’m so excited to see her in the role full time!

I had the pleasure of seeing this duo in person and I can honestly say that their live performance was even better than this.
I'm just back here to say that seeing this clip inspired me to go see the show with Matt and Joy in it, and they were every bit as good live as they were in this clip, if not better. Truly, I don't think there has ever been a better Seymour-Audrey duo on-stage. Their performances were incandescent, their chemistry crackling, and their voices perfectly brought Alan and Howard's beautiful songs to life. Bravo, from the bottom of my heart!
She is perfect, plain and simple. Clarity, beauty, and grace in her voice.

Very nice. Different but still very good as compared to Ellen Greene. I am so happy to see Matt Doyle finally gets the chance to play Seymour. He sang this song 6-7 yes ago and I told my friend that he would be perfect for that role. Congrats to both performers. I saw it with Groff. Maybe I will see it again.

Ronette is one of their names, collectively they’re known as the Street Urchins

I saw this video and decided to go watch the show today. Wow, I was just so blown away by the entire cast particularly Joy Woods! What a phenomenal actress! I laughed and cried during her performance. Absolutely would go back again!

Fun fact: Joy Woods is a two time LSOH Alum. She did a run as Chiffon and then came back later to play Ronnette. Now she's the star of the show (and damn deserving of it too)

Great voice. I did not know what to expect. She didn't sing with that 'gritty' downtown poor girl voice. No accent ( I did not feel much emotion for the character. However, she came into her own when she brought that 'southern gospel soulful belting out loud' vibe. That was the emotion I was looking for. I am not sterotyping, but I see her 'Audrey' as a girl from the south, brought up in the church and gospel music. She and her mother escape to the big city for a better life, but don't succeed; but finds security in her gospel upbringing. That is the interpretation, I'd like to see. Just my 2 cents.
Wish more people expressed critique like this. I love this version of Audrey but appreciate your view - much respect to you sir.
I just saw LSOH with my daughter in March, but this really makes me want to go see it again. Lena Hall was a tremendous Audrey, but Joy looks amazing as well - what a voice!

I just had the pleasure of seeing this live off-Broadway this evening. Joy was playing opposite Teddy Yudain, and this number was even more incredible in person. Amazing performances from everyone present, and it was a great audience too. If you are in NYC, definitely go see it.

Ngl I was wondering that myself. This only shows Audrey singing, so I was hoping that they at least kept the raspy, babydoll speaking voice for the dialogue. I was excited to see Joy Woods’s name, but losing the iconic hair, voice, and the skintight animal-print mini dresses just kills me.
