Julie... you are out here doing The Goddess Vesta’s work! I may not be able to control family members or the world around me, but I can create a safe haven and sanctuary in my own home. Your videos are like hands-on therapy. I can always learn and implement something new for a more harmonious environment. Thank you for sharing your time and energy with us. So much love!
Lindaaaaa!!!! ☺️ I hope you’re feeling harmony in your space too! Thank you for your positive message, and may all your interior decor dreams come true quickly and easily 😊
Please more small space areas!! Thank you. This was awesome! I have a small space that has to be divided between a kitchen, living room, dining area. The photos you found is making me think its possible if it can look this glamorous in a studio. How did these designers make it look so fantasic!!!. Im going to keep watching and try to learn more. Thank u!!!
My old studio was square but with a “kitchen hallway” at the entrance, very similar to the first example but even smaller! I put the bed by the window and a chair by the closet. Between them was a low bookshelf that divided the sleep/living area and doubled as a nightstand/‘coffee table.’ The other wall had my TV on a dresser with my clothes, and a table with all my pens, papers, etc hanging in an IKEA pegboard (so my table was always clear and could easily be used for either dining or work). Living small really forced me to be thoughtful with the layout and multifunctional furniture, I really loved that studio and even miss it some times!
Julie, you have covered just about every single little to big challenge with working with small studio apartments. I have done major changes to my studio apartment since you have done this series and I am so very happy and pleased with your videos!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!! I have much more work to do and I cant tell you how much i've binged watched your videos and you have helped me tremendously!!!!! I LOVE you!!!!!!
Aww I love that Lisa!! Nothing makes me happier than knowing how my tips have helped you create your dream space!! I love that! Thank you so much for watching 🙏🏻☺️💕
Thanks Julie, your videos are informative, beautifully delivered and your visuals are stunning. This series is so close to my heart as I want to retire to a tiny house, but a beautiful tiny house. This video is packed with great design layouts. May I compliment you on your hands as today as they were particularly graceful.
Great idea! What’s your specific question when it comes to seating Dechen? Check out my video on 4 furniture ideas to maximize your living room layout for more tips! 👍🏻☺️
@@JulieKhuu I wanted to understand if it is better to keep a sectional ( and which side the lounger should be- hall side or window side?) or instead have 3+2 couch set in a contemporary setting. Am leaning towards towards a sectional with a lounger on window side but the problem is that there would be pendant light right above the head!
Shes always to The point...comes to topic...no time wasting.. Am sure she must hv spent so much tme to gve us such wonderful tips..just like that Julie adore your Commitment😍😍😍
I've enjoyed all the installments in this series so far, but this one really knocks it out of the park. Good suggestions, helpful examples shown, great tips for practical application!
WHOA! There were some GORGEOUS spaces and great advice here. I live in a small one bedroom now but moving to a studio space. I am leaving with some fantastic ideas after watching this! THANKS!
This was so helpful! Please consider doing a video on laying out 1 bedroom open floor plans- struggling so much in terms of adding an office into the living/kitchen area. Have a good weekend!
This posting reminded me of my studio when I had my kids. Had to work in 2 Cribbs to the design. It worked out great, looking back. Did not realize I had a knack for designing. What a beautiful memory. Thank you for making me think back. There has been no posting I have not liked. My favorite was the angled room with the post in the room.
Our new home has a 1 bedroom apartment on the top floor ~ sloped ceiling & open kitchen, dining area, living room plus I want to add in a little office space. This video is jam packed with great ideas.
This was awesome Julie! My space is similar to the third one and and it was exciting at first and then realized the place is too small. Thank you for bringing back the beauty of small spaces and the role of planning!!! It’s all about the interior design ✨
Can’t wait for next week’s video! Your small space series is so timely. Am putting off fully furnishing my small apartment till I receive all your precious tips! Thank you Julie, love from Singapore ❤️
Julie, I know I was one of the folks with tons of questions on studio apartment space🤣🤣 but you have really given me tons to think about and work with. I can finally get started on decorating my space🙂🙈. Thank you so much. I look forward to the rest of the series.
@11:42 loving the day bed to use as a couch / bed. Intetesting hanging lights above the chair. Love the SS island. And no curtains! Shades would be nice though. @15:10 love the corner sofa/lounge/daybed. ❤
Wonderful, concrete ideas for any size area. Love the use of color, rugs, art to define areas in small space. 👍😘👍😘 always learn much from your videos! Thank you.
You are the best Julie for sharing info on the design websites! I have been wanting to find tools online to help out with visualizing design ideas I have.
Love your small space series. I’ve gotten some great ideas. Can you do a video on maximizing sleeping and seating in a small space? We have a tiny cottage (800 sq ft) on a lake that needs to sleep and seat 8 adults and children at a time. There is one tiny bedroom, bathroom and kitchen (with no place for a table and chairs)on one side and the other side is mostly an open space. We are currently using a sleeper sofa, bunk bed with storage underneath , daybed with a trundle and a queen bed in the tiny bedroom. The front of the cottage has sliding doors to maximize the view and provide another point of entry. We are stuck with the homes exterior footprint at this time.
not everyone needs those large beds, though. I'd like to think that my boyfriend's bed is the big one and I can go there if I don't want to sleep alone. Men still make more money usually, so maybe he can afford a bigger place or maybe needs less closet space than his girlfriend.
You look beautiful! Love your makeup look, your lipstick is gorgeous on you! Another great and informative video! Love all the tips and pictures! Thank you Julie! 💕😊
Awesome video, I didn't get these inspirations when I lived in a narrow and rectangular apartment back in Shanghai. I loved the idea and it will definitely help me in near future. Thanks again.
I’m in Senior housing studio apartment. To separate the bed area from living room area, I used an Asian four panel screen. The couch I got is one with chase, and I have a side table I got from IKEA. I’m lucky there is a small room for kitchen with fridge and stove, but no a lot of counter space. Lucky the entry way there is room for a utility cart and butcher block cart with two draws and two shelves. Since kitchen room is in the entryway it expands the kitchen. There is a small hallway going to bathroom with a closet on either side. We are not allowed to paint the white walls so, I bring color in with the couch being colbalt blue. Since I’m an Artist, I have hung some of my artwork on the walls. You can also use fabric to make artwork. I was going for a Mid century modern look and was lucky to find fabric with that design. Get a big canvas or stretchers to staple the fabric on, and also use mod podge. Although I went for mid century modern look, do have some traditional pieces. Near the Asian screen is a small wall. I put my black lacquer cabinet I brought with me from my old house. We are not allowed to hang a TV on wall. One of my elderly neighbor’s and his son were nice enough to make me a very low down tv stand, so, tv doesn’t hide the decorative panels in center of screen. I was able to find at Purl River Mart in New York Cities Chinatown, some wrapping paper with cherry blossoms on it. I chose the part with pink background, and glued it to small canvases I got at Dollar Tree. I was able to hang them on the wall over the Asian cabinet with Ginger Jar lamp. That is the only furniture I’m allowed to put in the space, as we get a yearly inspection. No clutter allowed. I liked the video very good ideas. I didn’t mention, before I got my BA in Art and Secondary education, I went to FIT, to study Interior Design.
Hello Julie👋🏼 MaryAnna here. I watched this video yesterday and forgot to comment because I got distracted by a phone call! This is a great video and helps with showing different placements of furniture. Love your channel- You are the Bomb 💣
My space is like #3. I pretty much did the second suggestion. Except I turned my large closet into a Murphy bed sort of situation, put my dining area where you had the bed. I love when people come over and they’re secretly curious where I sleep😂🤣 Great video!

Ooooo this is so good!! Can you do small entry way video ideas for townhomes that have that weird setup where the front door leads to a row of staircases and a bedroom on the left/right of the home! Haha! With all the new builds? Most townhouses look like that in the MD metro area. Love your content hunn! ❤️
Thanks. I actually got A Lot of ideas from all your photos. Will have to watch it again. Caveat: Some televisions are really too high, challenging to the neck and eyes. Otherwise, aMAzing🏆. Thanks again. Cheers.
Hi Julie. As always, you share tons of inspiration and tips to your viewers! Can you also come up with interior design ideas for 2 bedroom, 1000 sq ft. high rise condo apartments? Thank you and looking forward to that one :)
Thank you for watching! Check out my video on open concept layouts for more tips for the common areas. Also check out the Dream space series and common design mistakes per room 👍🏻☺️
So cool the ideas But theres something that doesn't fit me right, where can we put the washing machine plus to dry the clothes ( or a drying machine )? Plus students that don't have money what they can do to furniture their spaces. Also would you clean it ?
The layout with the white shelving unit - that has a tv that pivots (1:32) - is exactly what i told i told my i wanted. Sent it to my contractor. Now lets see if it fits in my space. The tiny house is shaped like a capital T . the bathroom n kitchen in tbe up n stand. The living n bedroom have to be on tbe crossbar- thw area that is 12x20. Thank u
Thank you for watching Amy! I have a few videos on open plan layouts- check it out in the awkward space series as well as the Dream Space series. The episode on scale and proportion will help immensely 👍🏻☺️
Do you have any recommendations for privacy when it comes to the bedroom? I currently live in a two bedroom apartment and I sleep in the living room and it is a hassle to remotely get privacy when I am sleeping or just do not want to be bothered.
Retraumatized. These examples are large compared to what I had. It was fine when the Island was my living room and I was young. Glad I'm in a huge apt now and can have lots of beautiful things.
This was great! I noticed in one of the pictures there was a bookshelf/media console that separates the living room and bedroom. where the television was, which was in the middle, it was able to swivel so you’re able to see if from the living room or when you’re in bed you were able to turn it around. Do you have a link for that?
Most likely a custom piece Chanelle. Try my Pinterest hack- take a screenshot of the image and upload it onto Pinterest’s search bar for direct shopping links. Good luck!
with more people working from home, I'd love to see more desks that are minimalist, do double-duty, are unobtrusive...and use real monitors, real computers instead of laptops.
Hello Julie, I watched your videos and really needs your brilliant mind in designing. We have this very awkward wall in our living room & I don’t know know how to design this wall… sending you pictures…
This is a great video! Sadly, my studio layout is none of these. What would you recommend for a studio that has the bathroom on the left, followed by a kitchen, and the closet on the right? Then there's the open space. Thanks!
Address the open space only Andrea. Check out my video on how to measure your space in the Dream space series. Understanding scale and proportion is critical to your success. You got this 🙌🏻
hey julie, any tips on built-in bookcases for people who don't have lots of books? i also don't ahve a lot of knick knacks, and if i did, i'd hate the hassle of cleaning all that. Are there other clever uses for open shelving i can't get rid of?
Baskets! My favorite trick to hide your junk in plain sight. Check out my new stylish storage solutions video for direct shopping links and more inspiration 👍🏻
You could also close it off using a window blind. There are many different types available. Then you dont have to look at the open shelves all the time
Do you know the brand of the dining bench with storage on the back (towards teh living room) at 14:33? It's really nice and exactly the kind of thing i'm looking for.
Hi Julie! Looking for tips if I have a completely open space with my kitchen taking up one full wall? The bathroom and closet are next to each other on the opposite side, separated from the main space by double doors.
Having a comprehensive video that speaks to multiple layouts is the real value add here.
Thank you for watching 🙏☺️

Here are some things I found for small places:
Use 2 or 3 burner stoves on the counter, with a small microwave. Add a toaster oven for cooking. Get rid of the big stove. Use small compact refrigerators and get rid of the big one to free up space. You can put a washer/dryer or dishwasher in the extra space you save. I also place washer and dryers in the bathroom.
Also, you can use an extra cupboard down below as a place to put in a compact dishwasher.

Yes, but it’s not necessary for a child’s room if you need the space Karen. I prefer symmetry, but do what works for you. 👍🏻
I wish I was single again. I love the coziness of studio apartments.
Especially when you’re located right in the middle of downtown/ nightlife action! Oh the good ol’ days before kids 😆
Very valuable content. Can you give dimensions of the square option ? Thank you.
such a great video
Thank you for watching 🙏🏻
Thanks for your tips! : ))
Thank you for watching Jan! 🙏🏻☺️
So cool the ideas But theres something that doesn't fit me right, where can we put the washing machine plus to dry the clothes ( or a drying machine )? Plus students that don't have money what they can do to furniture their spaces. Also would you clean it ?

The tiny house is shaped like a capital T . the bathroom n kitchen in tbe up n stand. The living n bedroom have to be on tbe crossbar- thw area that is 12x20. Thank u
Thank you for watching Amy! I have a few videos on open plan layouts- check it out in the awkward space series as well as the Dream Space series. The episode on scale and proportion will help immensely 👍🏻☺️
Helpful video.
Thank you for watching Ivana 🙏🏻☺️
Do you have any recommendations for privacy when it comes to the bedroom? I currently live in a two bedroom apartment and I sleep in the living room and it is a hassle to remotely get privacy when I am sleeping or just do not want to be bothered.
What’s the name of that TV stand that swing around
Retraumatized. These examples are large compared to what I had. It was fine when the Island was my living room and I was young. Glad I'm in a huge apt now and can have lots of beautiful things.
You can still create an inspiring space no matter what your budget, size, or style Lili ☺️
@@JulieKhuu I had an Alice in wonderland cute space. With 1870s wardrobe, antique table and bedside table. But it's really hard to live in 200 sp ft.
You are brilliant.......
Thank you for watching Umaasankari 🙏🏻☺️
More bed space!!
I realized I’m 50/50 since we host so much ☺️
This was great!
Thank you for watching Sheings! Check out my video on focal walls for more tips 👍🏻☺️
Isn’t it gorgeous?! I would bet it’s a custom piece
@@JulieKhuu Ugh. Can you use your clout to bring it to different stores attention! It needs to exist in mass. So beautiful!
Hi Julie! Looking for tips if I have a completely open space with my kitchen taking up one full wall? The bathroom and closet are next to each other on the opposite side, separated from the main space by double doors.
Check out my video in the awkward space series on open concept layouts Katherine! Hope you find the answers you’re looking for
