Perfect Impact Drill - Strike it Like the Pros!

  • The most important position in golf is IMPACT, and for iron shots, you need to have a downward angle of attack which help you to hit the ball first, and the ground second. It also helps you to compress your irons shots correctly, just like the Pros and experience that euphoric feeling of a perfectly struck golf shot.
However, most amateur golfers never experience this feeling, or, at best, have it occur once in a while and leave them endlessly searching for a way to recreate that feeling again.
The key to achieving this solid contact and compression like the Pros is SHAFT LEAN at impact. Having the shaft leaning forwards at impact allows you to hit high enough up on the face to strike the ball from the centre of the club face and hit the ball more consistently.
This drill will show you exactly how to achieve the desired SHAFT LEAN at impact every time with such a SIMPLE idea, you won't believe you hadn't tried it before.
If you want to stop “flipping” or “scooping” at the ball which is leading to poor contact, low distance and random shot patterns, then you simply MUST try this drill.

I used to feel the same way, but over time and with daily practice, it's S&T all the way now. I had my biggest issue with my Driver, but over time I have that working pretty well now too. I could not imagine using a different swing for different clubs. S&T for me anyway, was a complete re-build of my entire swing. I was just not able to hit the ball first consistently with any other method. Now at 67 I am striking the balls more solidly and consistently than any time in my life. I only wish I had made that change when I was younger and had more club head speed.

Hi Rob, you mentioned that part about feeling some pressure on your trail index finger. A while back in one of your videos on grip you mentioned the importance of that but I never saw anything you did that elaborated on it. Do you have a tutorial on it? I mostly feel the swing with my lead arm but have messed around with feeling it in the trail hand and explored a “skipping a stone” feeling with the trail index finger but never quite knew if it was a good path to go down.

Although the left shoulder is going up.. Are you trying to keep it down as long as possible? I say that because it seems like to hit the sweet spot on a specific part of the ball.. You need a pretty specific amount of shaft lean based on angle of attack.. Really no more less per angle of attack and it seems really hard if you're left shoulder is going up fast. It goes up.. But last minute right?

How many grooves up from the bottom of the club face should we strike the ball? Thank you.

4th or 5th groove from the bottom is ideal 👌

Great video, just hope the public don't throw cans of beer at the players, YES plastic cups is fine but not half full cans of beer, but they had a lot of fun apart from said missiles.
