  • Without a doubt, he number one deficiency in amateur golfers is their inability to control the low-point of their swing. Specifically, they struggle to get the bottom of their swing to bottom out far enough forwards, resulting in fat shots, thin shots, and topping the ball.
So how can you practice in a way that trains this skill and improves your ball striking?
First, you need to understand WHAT the factors are that control low-point. There are 3 main factors.
    1. Location of weight
    2. Control of swing radius
    3. Swing direction
This drill will help to improve ALL THREE of these factors and will teach you the necessary feeling to deliver the club to the ball first, and the ground second for perfect ball striking and insane compression.

I watched this video a while ago but only recently it clicked that the wider someone's shoulders are, the more forward the ball position will be in relation to the feet. I now tee up my driver of my left big toe and for all other clubs the ball is somewhere between left instep and just inside of the left heel. I've heard comments that it looks so far forward but it feels comfortable and, most importantly, works (when everything else falls into place).

This could be the most transformational lesson apart from heads up putting I’ve seen. Tried the ball forward, tees under the arms and could not believe the consistency of strike and accuracy😳. This begs the question - should you position the ball in this manner every time on the course for your irons and woods?

Used the hit hard and stop quick for 15 balls and then worked on this drill. Hit about 80% solid and after ball. Was using a top tracer outside and was struck how accurate each shot was, the distance wasn't always consistent but I'm confident that will come with more practice. Thanks for this I may use this in a game when I need an accurate shot :)

This is a great drill as I can attest to it.
To my fellow golfers, start doing drills. I've seen it so many times at the range, golfers hitting balls with very little effectiveness because they have no clue on how to improve (I was guilty of this too). It wasn't until I started doing drills (specifically ball striking drills) that my game improved dramatically. The trick is you have to stick with it. You will hit ugly shots but it's no better then the bad shots you're hitting now. At first the changes will feel unnatural to most. I've often said a good golf swing is an unorthodox swing. You're changing the biomechanics of what feels natural to you and that's why there's this need to regress to your old swing. Don't! Stick with the drills. You will eventually start seeing results
I have 3 drills and this is one of them. For beginners, I would start with the split hand drill. This will help you understand what the swing path should feel like. You have to ingrain this into your motion and repetition is key. The good news is you don't need a range or course to do this. A high ceiling or cut off shaft with a weight on the end will suffice.
Also, I now hit balls with the stack and tilt method and I'm playing great golf. The only club I don't hit with this method is my driver. I still use the pivot method for that club. That may change soon but for now I love the way I'm striking the ball with all my clubs.

Great video !! Quick question, if you can train yourself to cleanly hit the ball 5inches further in front (in line with your left foot) whilst still also taking a divot in front of the ball, what would be the advantage of then bringing the ball back to being in the centre of your stance again ? (And re-training your brain again)?

Would you recommend the same distance of 4 to 5 golf balls with your drill for where you want the low point with regards to hybrids? With irons, what if I tee up the ball slightly on the tee box, am I still looking at the same distance for a low point as well? Thanks again!

Good Pros don't even think about their downpoint much. They just get up to the ball and stripe it working on other things. That's because they're gifted 👈. For us mere mortals however, downpoint is a big deal and just a little practice on it can yield rewarding results!
