  • The quality of your golf is directly correlated to your ability to strike the ball consistently.
    Amateur golfers struggle to put the bottom of their swing arc (the LOW-POINT) in the right location which results in poorly struck shots and never-ending frustration.
    To develop the skill of improving your ball striking from the ground, you need to train how to hit the ball first and the ground second. This video explores the three different factors that determine where the bottom of your swing is likely to be and I’ll share a drill with you that can help you train all three factors simultaneously to build a more repeatable, consistent low-point.

    Great video, low point is #1. I’m finally going to conquer this. Looks like the stack and tilt is the way to go. I think also, tell your viewers how much distance is lost with numbers so they can see the super important of solid contact, thx Steve F.

    Thank-you Rob, very valuable information. I've been working on my consistency this year and my scores have dropped. In the past I would always have at least one or two bad holes due to poor strikes.

      I agree with you 100%, I've watched 100's of videos from others and Rob makes more sense to me, short and quick to the point, easy to understand and covers things others do not .
      Other teachers are knowledgeable but have trouble communicating or getting too technical in relaying the information. They'll take 15 minutes to tell you something Rob can do in 3 minutes.

      I have a question, after trying everything you said in this video... I find it mostly work.. except for a few club like short hybrid, I find myself not able to hit the ground at all.... any recommendation?

    More GREAT stuff Rob. Love the belt buckle over the left ankle with approximately 90% preset is graphically clear as hell. Will work on it tomorrow. As always my appreciation. Be good stay safe-Russ

      @@golftecasia great video lesson Mr Cheney! It's like you are not the least concerned about releasing the lag. I have major problems as well with driver low point, as well as contact point on the driver face. Is there a similar lesson for driver hackers like me. Losing lot of yards as well. jm

    This is why I use stack n tilt with my irons only because it taught about low point is the key fundermentle in golf .I have use stack n tilt for 2years now and is great for my iron play .

    Hi Rob I'm thinking of putting some twine between two tees and striking the ground after the twine. I've also started putting little mounds of sand about 7 to 10 cm behind the ball at address. All of those have helped. I've been playing "badly" and hitting par ±23. However some of those extra shots ar due to poor course management. As always, my sincere thanks for your wisdom - it's helping.

    Rob: Excellent video! I've always swung in to out and struggle with ball contact even though I try to keep my weight left! Sometimes I cast and hit behind the ball or sometimes I swing over the top of the ball and miss it completely!

    Rob I wish I had gotten that input a few years ago. it is the most frustrating aspect of golf of knowing having poor ball hitting and not knowing what one can do about it.
    I noticed in your video about how to shoot your driver further, that you seem to hit the driver of the ground instead of of the T.
    I have good days when I hit the center spot most of the time and I have days where I do not hit it at all. it is almost as if it all comes in groups and even with my best efforts, I can not change the pattern in trying to change the hitting point. I use paper to get that feedback.

    Rob, this is a key focus point and I am keen to practice this drill often. My question is how to repeatable shift into to this weight-forward position whilst swinging ‘for real’? The shift itself would seem to introduce a degree of variability, do you see what I mean. Cheers.

    Rob great drill and instruction. One question. Is the base of the noodle exactly in line with the ball-target line? I feel that if I can move it back maybe 6 inches I’ll be more successful and hopefully this won’t matter too much in the outcome during play. Your thoughts?

    Thank you Rob. This is a game changer for me as the quest for in to out has been never ending aa an ex slicer. Weight forward but my mid to long irons have been getting worse as I’m sure my path is now too acute. Will definitely give this practise and thanks again.

    Its end of winter, the ground is soft, and I'm hitting some big sloppy fat shots, that's why I'm here! I'm going to work on this drill as much as I can (it snowed last night lol). I like your videos, I'm a 9 and trying to get down closer to scratch, gotta get better at low point.

      I just bought a Divot Board and could never get a divot in front of the golf ball. I tried step #3 and began to make a divot in front of the golf ball. This is huge. Thanks Rob! 👍👍👍👍

    Hey Rob great looking drill. You reference where you centre of gravity should be (over forward ankle). Shouldn’t you also have a reference point for your head too? Some may think their head should also be above the forward ankle where as others may think it should be more centre of the stance.

    These tips worked for me, I watched, practices on the range, played today and I shot pretty decent (87, I usually shoot about 95) without hitting fat and shots way left of my target line. I got caught up trying to drop the club inside and always hit fat and I thought it was due to me dipping. When I tried these tips for the first time my eyes were telling me I am coming too far over the top but I kept trying them out with half swings and worked my way to full swing and it finally starting clicking between my eyes, my brain, and my body. Thanks Rob, I'm going to keep working on these tips.

    If you get to the front foot early and keep your shoulders rotating through the hit, you can release earlier ala Mike Austin and Count Yogi. You'll save your lower back while enjoying the high draws. Or you can go down+up after it like Tiger using more lag/forward lean and hitting more down while delofting the face. Works either way unless you stay back and/or quit accelerating on the turn through.

    Rob.....???....i always focus on back of ball during swing....?..better to focus on front of ball ?..or point of ground that is the low point?....i wonder if this would help "collect the ball" before the club reaches its low point.....i have tried this....its not easy....but wonder if changing focus of eyes on target would help with correct impact?

    Ive been practicing this skill a lot lately. Two things that have seemingly helped are taking the club wide with a very slight pause at the top & while shifting more to the left keeping my right elbow in so I get the inside out swing instead of coming over the top. I start with the swing hard stop quick drill & lengthen it out to three quarter swing. Really enjoyed this video!

    Rob...after watching and having great success with these critical areas of low point contact in the swing at the practice range...yesterday I went out and played an absolutely horrible round, because mid -round I proceeded to begin topping about 8 or 9 iron shots and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong....can you recommend any drill I could have tried on the course, mid round to get myself " reset "and back to a somewhat consistent swing...I am going back to the practice range again today.....thanks much for any help offered

    So is transition in a full swing getting your hip/belt buckle over your left ankle?
    I tried this drill and I hit the ball a little lower and just as far with a much smaller swing as I normally do. Just wondering how to take the drill to a full swing.

    Hey coach, I'm scanning all videos. I'm also 1/3 through the S and T book.
    The question that I think is blocking my progress at this time is this. When if any time at all, should the left wrist stop it's rigidity on the grip after impact, thus naturally allowing the club to move around the body?
    This may not be important for great contact but my mind and body want to know.
    The pictures of great golfers at the end of their follow though seems to be something I would like to imitate. At least in the structure of successfully transfering all weight and power into compression of the ball.

      The thing that has helped me the most is the feeling of the connectedness of the arms, especially the upper arms, to the torso.
      And you've got it spot on with the title, all pros are doing this.
      When your arms are connected to your torso you can generate a tremendous amount of power with the least amount of extra unnecessary movement.
      That's what the good players are doing.

    How do you avoid shanks when keeping hands forward of the clubhead? One of the biggest issues for me personally. I can easily get hands forward but find I am lagging the hosel or leaving the clubface open. The dreaded early release with all of its other detrimental side-effects lets me strike the ball and more often not fat. But not particularly well either I am sad to say. Been playing for 10 y and this one issue with shanks appearing when otherwise proper conditions exist plagues my game.

There is some solace in knowing the shank problem when trying to hit ball first is not only mine. Wish you could do a video exploring what may be the various causes of the problem. . Still trying!     Yes,weight should be on your lead foot at impact , but you do not want to move the outside of your lead hip beyond the outside of your lead foot . Doing so will affect the ability of the lead hip socket to move back, which in turn will affect the ability of the pelvis to rotate.
    Worrying about how to weight your lead foot can be eliminated by setting up in a “reverse k” , with weight already left.

    Rob, I have a suggestion for another video. You could visually show us the difference between in to out, out to in, and the correct path. I went from being an out to in player, and thought I was doing the right thing by moving to in to out. But then I started hitting a lot of fat shots. What are the keys to the correct blend of in to out and out to in. Thanks for all you do for us. You are a great teacher.

    I’ve looked at literally 100’s of videos. Hit farther, more solid, etc. etc. not happening. I still watch and try, but I’m fairly sure it’s hopeless.

    It does make me laugh when these videos state that, ‘it’s the only drill or tip you will ever need’ and then proceed to release more videos. I have found the more my head is filled with ‘special tips’ or ‘drills’, the harder it is for me to actually start my backswing.

      The thing is this is 1 thing you absolutely need control of when playing golf if you want to be half decent, Without us average golfers will have to rely on timing to much because we’re compensating, sure you’ll score well relatively but when you have your off day it’s not going to go so well. So imo this is the 1 thing everybody should be getting right at first, will save you a lot of trouble long term.

      @@golftecasia No doubt about that but you have to agree, whether the golfers fault or the teachers fault, we average amateurs can't seem to learn this skill in large enough numbers. Myself included. At this point I have practically given up trying. Nothing I do ever works and that is the case for so many of us. And I'm still a decent golfer but I will never get much better than I am now until I start hitting ball first, like so many other golfers out there. I don't understand why this is so hard for me and golfers like me.

    Very Surprised this instruction is not compulsory for every beginner of golf. Unless one gets this right at the outset you are doomed ! Golf instruction over the ages has let us down so badly. This is the number one starting fundamental of golf. Everything else should come after this. It is all about ball striking. Period. Get this right the other stuff will follow.
