Does it have camera control on Sony camera like touch to focus? Does it have the ability to overlay a still while shooting a scene to perform match cuts? Thank you
Been looking to upgrade my cheap non-touchscreen monitor for a very... Very long time. To me, this monitor promises everything I need as a small content creator on a budget.
In real world it's a litle bit disapointing and not the best choice for everyone. Design is great and professional looking (perfect Atomos clone) and build quality is great as well with full metal housing. USB-C power is a nice future proof feature for some people and the X3 is the most affordable way to get a good SDI monitor. BUT the active cooling fan is extremely loud which makes it completely useless for on camera mics / on camera sound. the menue operation is a litle bit complicate and confusing, not so intuitive like other monitors. last not least the on screen graphics like wave forms are not good looking in my opinion. at this price point eg the Desview 6II is a much better choice for many people: only 5.5" instead og 6" and a simple plastic housing, BUT much brighter with 2800 nits, much lighter with 240g instead of 335g and smaller, and most important, it has a nearly silent active cooling fan. additionaly nice looking on screen graphics and a very intuitive easy to use menue. so in my case, I will keep the Desview 6II and will sent back the Viltrox DC-X2. the Viltrox DC-X2 has a great design but in my case (not useable for on camnera sound) worse functionality.
So with all those options out there. If you could only pick 1 monitor for your Sony alpha (small) camera fx3/fx30. Which monitor do you genuinely recommend?
love viltrox and the other 5inch monitor from them as well, but need to say that the small withe npf battery stopped working after 2 month. Otherwise, great stuff!
Not exactly related, but I have the regular Shinobi and the DCX2 Viltrox. I like the Viltrox better. Dual HDMI is what I needed. Included sunshade is nice. Powering by 8V or USB-C is also great.
hmm...I need a 7" monitor. I do live conferences and live shows and my 5.5" is a bit small...it has to have SDI in and HDMI in for sure and good resolution
Hi Jason, which monitor would you recommend? Viltrox DC-X3 or Portkeys HS8? I would want to use the monitor as a hybrid. On one side as an on camera monitor, on the other side as a monitor for the first AC to pull focus. Which monitor has the better panel in terms of colors? Greetings from Germany
Ok man I can't take it anymore... How much money do I need to pay in order to get ACTUAL settings and setup of how you get your videos to look the way this video looks? Not worried about the specialty stuff, more into the focus and sharpness, the settings lens and etc. Help me get my videos jacked bro!!
hey I am a very good fan of yours i got this monitor today and when I was trying to upload custom Luts from USB I didn't see anything do u recon any other way?
I've ordered the monitor (Viltrox DC-X2) 7 days ago. The order has not yet been sent, nor do Viltrox respond to my emails I sent 3 days ago about the order status. Since they resist of having any type of communication, I'm going to buy another field monitor and hope the company will give me my money back.
Viltrox asked me to commit a crime… Received a defect unit efter 14 days. The bottom screw mount is faulty so the monitor can’t be mounted to a monitor stand or any 1/4” screw. Viltrox have asked me to send it back for repair and asked me to commit a crime, declare the goods value to $5 and they refuse to pay the return postage… I refuse to do take any illegal action, nor do I refuse to pay the freight back to Viltrox since they should be responsible of sending me a defect unit. I planned to use the field monitor for a job, but now I’m stuck with a brick. Sending back the unit will take 14 days. More lead time to handle the repair and another 14 days for sending them back the repaired unit. I rather ban any future purchases from Viltrox as a brand and wisley choose to buy from a more serious company. Would not recommend Viltrox to anyone. Also the mail conversation is really a hassle with Viltrox. Takes 1-4 days for them to answer any type of replies.
Commit a crime? After 14 days the unit (DC-X2) arrived. Even that the unit was included a sticker "quality control passed", the unit was defect. The bottom screw mount was broken and its not possible to mount a field monitor nor anything else with an 1/4" screw. Basically it's unusable since I don't plan to mount it vertically with the side screw mount. The response from Viltrox is really slow, takes aorund 1-4 days until you get a reply per message. After sending them a video of the defect unit, they want me to send it back for repair, instead of sending a new one asap meanwhile me returning the defect unit. Now were talking 14 days to send it back, and another 14 days to get it back. And who knows how long the repair will take. My whole shooting trip was ruined since I was planning to take it with me. But since Viltrox wants me to commit a crime and declare the goods value to $5 and refuses to pay the return shipping, I'm now stuck with a brick. I'm not paying the shipping cost when the fault is on them. I won't encourage anyone to do business with this company. From my experience from all of those RUclips videos, I thought Viltrox was a valid company with low prices but high quality. Boy I was wrong...
Seems almost too good to be true… what’s the catch? How about the image quality / rendering on the monitor ? In the footage of your review it’s really hard to judge .. I have a Portkeys BM5 III which costed me almost double the price to have SDI .. the image is really gorgeous though .. And last question, it doesn’t come with the DC power cable does it ?
Thanks for the video Jason! I checked the specs and their manual but couldn't find one thing that'd be crucial for me: What signal does the HDMI output actually send? My usecase would be to put this on top of an FX30, connect the monitor for better exposure and focus checking and have the output connected to a capture card. Some monitors do a downscale to 1080p on the output so I was wondering what's happening with this one. If it actually is a full 4K output, is there a menu option to downscale the signal? This would be helpful if I want to send the signal to the DJI Raveneye that can't process 4K signals. Thanks for any insights on this!
Just got my viltrox x2 monitor, which i was reallyyl forward too, but in the first day i. Experiencing screen flickering and the screen is bot responding to touch at all. 😢
Any idea, if it would support an open gate signal thats larger than the typical 16:9 ratio output by most cameras? Thinking of using it on my XH2S but a lot of monitors cant support the open gate signal. Wouldn't be able to afford an atomos ninja that does support the signal.
Hi Jason, how you get to see your camera info display and the video in full frame on the monitor (16:9)? with my Sony a7s3 it is cropped to 4:3 like the lcd monitor and the only other option is full frame but with no display of the info of the camera (ISO, SHUTTER ETC...). Can you help us solve it? just bought the monitor after your video but I cant use is as you are using it.
While it all sounds amazing but you never mention THEEE most important thing- the visual quality of the monitor so I'm a bit skeptical. Also these are 8 bit monitors you really want to view your 10 bit footage through and 8 bit monitor? Why?
Does it really matter that much? You are not color grading footage on this camera. Even if there is some banding and slight discoloration, you won't even notice it. And in sunlight, other things will affect what you see way, way more than that.
@@Stasiek_Zabojca it depends on the quality of work it sounds like it’s low on your end. If you set your exposure and white balance right you shouldn’t have banding so a good monitor that helps you configure these things as well worth the money and yeah try looking at an image on a true 10 bit monitor compared to an 8 bit monitor and then you’ll see the difference
I heard a problem about if you power the camera and monitor with the same battery can cause ground loop and fry the HDMI port. Not sure is it a case with your setup? 🥲
Yes, 6 inches is the sweet spot :)

I’ve got two of the dc550 pros and they’re absolutely solid, can’t wait to try out this one too.
Oh nice! Yeah these are just a step up from those. The DC 550 are great value though
I've got one of those as well. Such a good value monitor.
Can you record video ?
@@The_Idea_of_Dream_Vision no these don't record video
What’s the difference between the 550 and the 550 pro besides the price?

Great video!!! Getting my camera setup for a mission trip to Costa Rica. Going to order one tonight!
Tell them to make a 7 in that can do touch focus control for sony and the option for vertical masking, and they would have a winner
Alright, honestly... worth getting over a SmallHD, like a 702? That price and features are enticing... but not sold yet.

can you output SDI while inputting HDMI?
Which would you recommend between this and the Atomos Shinobi II?
Would love to see a comparison between the Shinobi II, This Viltrox and the Atomos Ninja V. Nobody has made this video yet.
I wanna see this as well!
PRetty cool monitor! Does it have Edge sharpen peaking of only color peaking? Does it cross-convert from SDI to HDMI?

I think that having SDI BNC is always better than HDMI and VILTROX has more nits than Shinobi II

That is nice monitor,Compared to DC-X3, I like DC-X2, it is more suitable for my shooting needs.
How's the color accuracy? And can you adjust it if needed?
Also, can you loop from HDMI in to SDI out? And vice versa?
DC-X3 supports HDMI in to SDI out.
How is the noise from this monitor? Is the active cooling fan loud, does the mic pick it up?
Hello mate. After watching your video I bought dx 2 model:) i wonder what is a battery life?
