- What happened to the Benelli 750 SEI project? This build has been on hold as was intended from day 1. It is currently scheduled behind the Honda CBX restoration as we can only do so much at one time. I appreciate everyone being so excited for this bike but I must ask for your patience and understanding while other projects are being worked through.
A very cool update though is getting a Marving 6 into 1 header from my friend @milezero.racers as well as seeing different looks with different fuel tanks. What do you think?

That Suzuki tank is an almost perfect match, the lines follow the frame eerily well, especially at the front, just remains to be seen how it matches up with a seat

About a year since I was keeping up regularly with the channel and last saw this bike. Since then I sold all my motorcycles and my truck, moved countries and changed career. Just started looking at motorcycles again this week and catching up with the channel again. Look forward to following along with all these projects!

Cool you ask all us peeps opinion, I agree with the Suzuki tank, much nicer curves. The Laverda is nice, but tge angles don't go with the exhaust, frame, and definitely not the fairing. I suggest a different front fender, that has smooth round curves to compliment the fairing.
Definitely refurb!! Restoration has it's place, but that is a museum. You, I, and Alejandro, would much rather see this out on the road, as it was meant to be. Also, if this had been maintained as a runner all it's life, it would certainly see change from original to keep it running.

exciting to hear progress on the Benelli and the colour choice..........given the Laverda gas tank perhaps the orange should be the racing Laverda colour as the Jota was!!!
Man, I hate to be in your shoes! Both of those tanks are appealing for different reasons. But that Suzuki tank just gives it a sinister look especially with those pipes!

Yeah having multiple good options is not a bad thing!
Instead of a UJM tank for the Sei, look at using a late 1970s Ducati 900SD Darmah tank. It has the chiseled edges and curves you want, it's Italian and has the 1970s vibe. Your shop is sanitary and well laid out. That shows discipline and pride of place. That pays dividends. Performance parts for the Sei may be more plentiful in the UK. Italian bikes were very affordable in the UK in the 1970s since the Italian economy was on life-support and the Pound/Sterling was strong. UK-built performance parts suppliers sprung up and you may be able to score NOS parts from sources there. It pays to get information first. Good luck and press on.

I'm gonna be the controversial odd one out Bro....I love the Laverda tank on it....makes it look beastly and keeps it Italian. Id make it like a cross between a Jota and a Green frame 750ss ( the most beautiful bike ever made😍)

It's funny I've been thinking about this project but figured you would give us an update. The cool factor of this bike is off the charts.
A 6:1 exhaust has a wicked howl that guaranteed will raise the hair up on your neck when you hear it for the 1st time. I used to use a Winning Performance 6:1 exhaust way back when my CBX was normally aspirated, used an enlarged collector to accommodate increased exhaust flow from the 1270cc engine I was using at the time. That Marving unit looks great and will work well on your Benelli 6! Kudos to @milezero.racers for snagging that for you.

Nice to get an update on the Benelli and what a great find in that 6 into 1 exhaust! I agree that the Suzuki tank does look good on that bike but so does the Laverda tank, not sure which I'd go with if it were me. As for the dweebs that get all butt hurt because you didn't provide any update on the CBX or the Benelli and then tell you they're going to unsubscribe, you're well rid of them! I watch your channel for the free entertainment that you provide, the knowledge you impart and the tips, tricks and general help you provide when reviving old bikes. I used a lot of your methods when I got my 78 CB750 up and running, thanks man! This is your business and your channel, you have bills to pay and you have the absolute right to prioritize what gets done in your shop! Don't let the asshats grind you down BJ, keep doing what you're doing, BHB is one of my favorite channels!

The crankshaft can be sent to a machine shop that repairs crankshafts, they can probably repair it. As for an electronic ignition, a good friend had one of these and with a little help from a machinist buddy adapted a CBX ignition to his, which did make a difference in running, basically taking everything off the stock points plate then after aligning the CBX pickup plate, tack welded it to the stock plate. The forks are the same as a Guzzi of the time, so shouldn't be hard to chase down legs dampers. How these got made was DeTomaso owned the honda distribution in Italy, which meant the bikes had to be made there, so he owned the licensing for the designs and built his own bikes with derived engines and better frames. They made a 250 Quattro motorcycle which was really pretty.
Oh yes the little 250 four was futuristic gorgeous in it’s day. Did it not also carry Guzzi clothes?
@@grahamhill6616 Benelli was, as far as I know, their own brand, while they shared some Guzzi chassis parts, they were their own line, not many were sold outside the 750 and 900 Sei models, though earlier (probably Benelli before De Tomaso bought them) had been selling their bikes for years in the US, often branded as Montgomery wards and Sears motorcycles.

I have a honda 750 that has been in my shed for a couple of years. I have heard it run in the last two years, maybe three but the guy that was working on it redid the electrical on it. He rebuilt the carbs..and abandoned it. I have the title. We never signed it over as he never paid us for it. I would be happy to donate it to you just to watch the videos of you putting it back on the road.

The header makes that bike look sexy! Torn on the fuel tanks because they both have good qualities in different areas. I trust your judgment because you have a great eye for styling. Super excited for this build BJ!

Firstly, I am one of those people that is MOST interested in 2 bikes ever since you mentioned that you got them...and yes its both the CBX and the SEI. So when I saw the title to this video I thought finally one of the 2 bikes gets started.
Having said that, I am happy to watch any video you put up as they are ALL interesting and entertaining.
Secondly, I respect your choice regarding the direction you are taking with the Benelli build. Since you asked for opinions here is mine. Either you go full custom and in that case you do whatever looks good to you and don't worry about angular this or that to keep it Italian. eg. That Suzuki tanks looks a 100 times better then the Laverda tank on it etc etc OR you do OEM restoration. Its obvious to me now that you have chosen the former path and I would have chosen the ladder for one reason ONLY...that 6 in 6 exhaust ! THAT is its party piece in my book and I remember when I was a kid in the 70's having a poster of that bike on the wall and that 6 in 6 was the coolest thing about it.
Anyway, we all have our opinions and I am still looking forward, even if it won't get a 6in6, to that build. I also like your idea about making it a set with the Pantera....what a great idea.

You have to do what you think is right and what you love to do. I wanted to buy the Benelli back in the day because it was a six. I think it was hard to get and a bit expensive but I did manage to get a CBX when they came out. It is still one of my favourite bikes to own. The noise it made with a 6 into 1 on it was fantastic.

Who are these people that threaten to unsubscribe if they don't get the exact content they want? I'd understand if they were paying a monthly subscription fee in hopes of more Benelli content but thats not the case. All they did was hit the subscribe button for free motorcycle content. If you're a vintage motorcycle guy you should appreciate all old motorcycles.
LA Nik cracks me up. He looks like the 5th member of Motley Crue and seems like he'd be a Harley guy who hangs out at the Rainbow Room on Sunset but he's got a really eclectic/cool motorcycle collection.

One hack I’ve started using is using zip ties flipped inside out. The latching mechanism doesn’t clip in so you can just pull them right off.

Thanks Seth and BJ. So happy to have this update. Surely you could set up a dial guage on the middle of that advance bolt, turn the engine over and see if there's any crank out? You'll want to go through the engine anyway but I can't think of a better way to test it. It would be harder to test with the crank on the bench? i like your repair not replace philosophy. So get the plastic welder out for those used cable ties 😂

The Suzi tanks looks a very good fit for the Beneli but as always, you do what you think is best, BJ. We'll watch it and enjoy being taken along for the ride!

Nice to get an update on this bike. Both tanks look great but you have (possibly) a vision of the end game in your mind's eye, so I guess we'll just go with that. Your channel, you do all the work and pay all the bills, so you decide on timelines, priorities and schedules. We just sit back and enjoy the content. p.s. the more zip ties you save, the less you have to throw away🤣

You should do your projects when YOU want to., You don't work for us. Those of us who get what you do and how cool the things you do are, and how informative they are... that's already a LOT. You have inspired me, I am clueless with anything mechanical but now have 5 bikes to 'revive' and spend hours frustrated at seized nuts and screws that I cannot get out! I think I am going to make my handle - 'cotter pin hater'. Keep up the great work on whatever motorcycle you want! Should be a given!

I completely understand the want for the boxy angular lines of the Leverda tank and I really do like it, but when you put the Suzuki tank on there it just works.

That Suzuki tank looks perfect IMO, especially with the offset filler hole. Some period, angular paintwork maybe to compliment the fender etc?

I love the continued shade about "reusable" zip ties.
Restoration is expensive and not everybody is interested in that. My '75 cb750 will be restomod. I'm not buying an OE exhaust and I'm going to replace the JIS screws with allens and hex bolts because they're less likely to strip out if I need to work on it. I will just go ahead and plan on being buried with it. Then nobody has to worry about whether it was "restored".
I look forward to the rest of the Benelli project.

Fun fact. Back when i had hair where i wanted hair i worked for an italian bike shop.
We got 1 of the 1st 900sei's and after 80 miles it developed a misfire on 2 cylinders. After a lot of WTFing we popped the tappet covers off to find 2 inlet rockers had snapped off. Benelli wernt interested in taking the bike back and didnt have any spares available (odd but that was benelli) so we ended up fitting cb550 rockers in it, they were a total match.

Wow, the header looks great on it! I was liking the second tank until you talked about the angular lines of the front end and now I think the first tank was closer to that look. Either way, the bike is going to be awesome. Love those pipes! Thank you for the updates!
Yeah it's a tough call. I think the fairing I choose will have the ultimate determination for the tank
I reckon go with what looks best to you. I really like the Suzi tank, but if you have something you prefer, use that😊. Mind you, a different paint job on the Suzi tank will change its appearance enough that you'd never know what it was off.

Yeah I don't think this bike would be the best candidate for restoration anyway. There are plenty of those already sitting in sheds never to be seen. This will be ridden and shown off

Nearly everyone starts a bike after me and finishes before me. It happens all the time lol. I see many cx builds started using my bikes as inspiration and being done before mine is

I love your work and your projects. It's very cool that you are going to paint the Binelli grabber orange to match the Pantera. I'm going to be a bit different I guess. I like the Suzuki tank on the bike, but to me it makes it look JDM. For me the other tank would look better to do the TT build with. Just my opinion

GS650 tank looks spot on 👍🏻 Saw a 900 sei in the 1980s only time I ever saw a 750 or 900 on the road - rare bike.
It fits oddly well! I have seen a 900 sei while in Austin, TX which was neat!
As you say the Benelli is a "build", the CBX is a restoration. This is the ultimate project. IMHO.
Yeah I likely won't get another chance to build something like this so I want to take my time and do it right
@@BrickHouseBuilds Maybe, to keep your subscribers happy you could do a series called 6 cyl builds, some of the CBX, some of the Benelli. work on both projects. but only in small chunks. Just a thought. I'm doing 2 bikes myself an XS650 and a KZ400, both are cafe racer/street tracker builds not restorations, getting OEM parts just plain sucks. Now I use what I can find and fabricate the rest. Much more fun.
+1 for the Suzuki tank. The timing wheel is very cool! A few years ago I built a Ducati, and for timing I bought a plastic protractor and made it into a timing wheel. It would have been cool to have an original Ducati wheel but the 79 cent protractor did the job.

At the time De Tomaso owned Moto Guzzi, Benelli and Motobi. He wanted to compete with Japanese motorcycles by building multi-cylinder motorcycles. Unfortunately, wanting to save on the quality of materials, these engines proved to be unreliable.
I am happy that this project continues, because for better or worse these motorcycles are very rare pieces even here in Italy.

The Benelli was also a big draw to this channel for me, but in the end, I subscribe to channels made by people I'd like to hang with. It's another way to indulge in car guy/bike guy camaraderie. RUclipsrs who put effort into building the community by answering comments get extra credit from me. BJ is excellent at that. So, whatever he decides to undertake, I'm there. Stop being so whiny, people.
Anyway, I'm excited to see new content on this special bike. It's about damn time! LOL.

Regarding the vmax,the ecu's have problems with failure of oil filled capacitors due to their age. They are also prone to water ingress and corrosion on the boards. I you disassemble it, desolder the plug connector pins so the board will come out of the case and it is possible to replace the capacitors yourself.
You will definitely see what we did in the next electrical video. Not good..
Look at the early 70s Suzuki colour schemes, candy red with white highlights or the mint green with white flash would look good in my mind. Was never a fan of the Benelli colour schemes at the time. Good luck with it and keep sourcing the parts 😅
The Suzuki tank is a winner! Thanks for parking the Benelli so we ALL can see the exhaust in future videos. (What's up with that bitchin' mini-bike???) I am a big fan of Panteras! I remember when they came out when I was in high school...I spent many Friday nights down at the Lincoln/Mercury dealer in my hometown (they were the Pantera dealership) just gazing longingly at a couple of 'em. Good on ya'! If you haven't, check out the BITCHIN' RIDES episodes on Motor Trend TV where they did a resto-mod Pantera. They did a really fine job honoring the car and its heritage.
SCORE OF THE CENTURY... Marving pipes for a Benelli!! Boxes full of hens' teeth had to be moved aside to access that thing...

I think you should do an actual build, bore the heads as much as possible, but leave enough meat to run Nos without detonating the engine. Put a set of CBR forks and disk brakes, possibly EFI and a Dyna ignition kit on it. Should push it to 120hp with a monster Nos boost when you hit the scramble button. Either way I'm sure you will do an interesting build and I'm excited to see what you create. That's one thing I don't necessarily like about straight restorations. They didn't create anything, they don't modernize anything, they barely update anything they sometimes throw on some pretty paint, and add some personal period touches, but I like to modernize the reliability of the bike and then turn it into something I would ride rain or shine to work or on vacation across country, it's not always pretty or anyone else's cup of tea, but it's my bike and when I sell it and start my next build, I never have any complaints.

Keep the red tank on it! Everyone else and their uncle are using suzuki and honda tanks for that sort of bike, the red italian tank with its styling is way cooler and more unique!
