Keeping the craftsman alive and well. Type a guy the neighborhood kids come ask "hey sir can you fix this for us?" And he walks into the shop staring at the part in his hands the whole time. ❤ "I think we can figure this out. Come have a seat." And the happy kid left having learned something about life and mechanics possibly even starting them on their passion for doing the same one day. Our neighborhood machinist and engineers name was Mr. Keith. He kept a beautiful sailboat at our dock.. thanks for this video...really, thank you.
As a guy who has owned and loved both a Royal Enfield Himalayan and a KLR650, I can say you've built an amazing creation in this bike. I'm not kidding, if you made another one, I'd buy it.
I’m transforming my ‘99 Honda shadow 600 deluxe into a cross-country scrambler, but gradual steps. I started riding motorbikes as a six year old on stadium motor cross dirt trails, before all the X-Games stuff. Can’t get dirt biking out of my blood, hence the 600 transformation. I’ve even got a name for the transformation. I’ll have to take her on the journey to Missouri. Great work, brother.
I built a CB 550 into a scrambler 40 years ago. Of all the machines I've owned and ridden, none are as versatile or all around useful. Street capable, basic off road capable, it was unequaled. Not for motocross, lol. But just ridiculously practical, I still think of that in comparison to more modern units. Your build is a lot more careful than mine was. It's a beauty.
You are definitely right because you managed your expectations on what the bike can and will do! Some say this cx is a terrible idea to take offroad but I think those people have the wrong idea of what the bike needs to do.
It took an amazing combination of imagination, experience and talent to pull that off. It is beautiful! Your welding skills are pretty sporty too. Way to go!
What an amazing piece of workmanship. When I was young the CX500 was just the co to couriers machine, it's only saving grace was that it just kept on going. I think your re-imagining of the CX has everything a motorcycle needs, obviously not if you want a 200 MPH machine, but for those of us who've got "trying to kill themselves speeds" out of their system it's perfect. It shows that with some creativity and vision you can create an amazing machine without all the electrickery of the GS. I can do many things with regard to maintenance, my biggest regrets were never learning to weld, and never learning how to craft bodywork, my hat is off to you for your knowledge and attention to detail. A great video.
Looks so familiar. I used CX500 Custom rear wheel, and a generic aftermarket electric fan. I am going to fabricate a sidecar because I have muscle disease and have a bit unsure feeling keeping the bike up when stopping on uneven surface. When I modified and went through mine, I still was able to lift the engine easily, it weights 75 kg, about 150 lbs. Not any more... But I had a great life. No complaining about that.
You wear a lot of hats - literally and figuratively - demonstrating just how many skills are required for such a project. This is fantastic and required viewing/study for anyone contemplating a resto-mod. Kudos!
This bloke has just the right amount of tools for this type of project and a serious amount of mechanical and engineering talent to pull it off. Hats off to you.
It's a bullet proof engine but it has one major issue if you're actually going to thrash it off road; the heavy drive shaft has enough torque to makes the bike want to roll when you catch a lot of air. I jumped my dad's CX500 quite a bit, one time at more than 100 mph and the bike felt like it wanted to roll onto its side mid air.
I wanna be you when I grow up!!! No wonder Craig wanted to copy this bike...it's an amazing piece of work. I knew when I saw the picture on Craig's site that the bike was bitchin'. Shoulda known it was yours. Congrats...and you did all that in your SHED!

I can feel a definite sway towards this type of machine. Anyone who's been on a dirt road on a touring bike can understand why. I would love to be able to hit the trail. Without having to trailer a vehicle to and from the trail head. You are an incredible mechanic. I hope things are working out for you, you certainly deserve it. I'm always impressed with the quality of work coming out of a small shop. It proves , it ain't the shop it's who's in it . I never realized how much stamped metal Honda uses in their production of their motorcycles. I've been hopelessly addicted to two wheels since I was a little boy. Everything about them brings me joy and keeps me young. Stick with it kid! There are great things in your future. I've watched a ton of resto rebuild videos and you are the best by far. Camera clarity and focus and position . Music choice narration it's all broadcast quality. I think the adventure bike is about to explode like Harleys did back in the early 2000s. I hope you can benefit from it. So quit reading comments and get to work on that next project,I'll be watching! Thanks.
"Do not Disassemble" - Hahahaha! This really was bespoke heaven...where form follows function. You turned a road bike and made her a dirt bike on steroids. And you spared no expense.
Found your site from Craig's, and I'm so glad I did. What a beautiful scrambler you have crafted! Your eye and fab skills are top notch, and I'm looking forward to going through your video library. The hour flew by! Thanks!
It blows my mind that someone can have all these skill sets at your age. Having the tools is a really important thing but without that knowledge and experience, with a sprinkle of engineering mentality, they don't do anything. I wish I had the opportunity to do these things
What an amazing build. I was wondering why it was you converted the rear wheel from a 16" to the 17"? Ground clearance? Tire availability? That was a clever idea and well done. I do not have the skills of tools or strength to pull off a transformation such as this, but boy I do like that motorcycle now as a "scrambler!"
I click onto this because a ‘79 Honda CX 500 custom was my first very first mode of transportation when I turned 16 in 1986. For four years it was my ride until I totaled it in an accident. I loved that bike, and I’ve always wanted to get another and restore it. It would basically be an every now and then ride, bit i I want one just the same. It was, and they are fantastic bikes, being shaft driven for that year of bike was a bit ahead of it’s time. It was also liquid cooled, which was basically unheard of then, and made it essential for those hot California summers splitting lanes on the freeways. 😏 ahh the good ol days. 😎 Oh yeah, great bike build man. 👍🏻
From the time I was born till I was eight, my family rode late 60s to early 70s Yamaha enduros. This affected me in a couple of ways. What is a motorcycle supposed to look like? What’s a motorcycle supposed to be able to do? I haven’t ridden since then, and I’m fifty now, but I watched this whole video because this build answered both of those questions so thoroughly. I was consistently amazed by the number of disciplines you drew from to do the build. Welding different kinds of metal? Check. Mechanics? Check. Machining? Check. I chuckled when, as precise as you are, your tubing bending activity started sweeping all the crap off your bench. Holy, crap, you just broke out a metal lathe. Wiring? Yeah, does that too. The only time it appears you phoned a friend was for powder coat /plating and seat upholstery. Amazing job!!
Haha thank ya! I don't have the ability to do powdercoat yet but maybe in the future. My seat guy does amazing work so I just love getting to see what he makes
Just an awesome build and as someone who's ridden CX500s I'm definitely onboard. A really fun, punchy, reliable platform to take to the next step of offroad adventures. Your fabrication skills are definitely on point and you've taken this street cruiser to the next level, very well done. Take care and God Bless...
Just starting out this morning watching and it’s amazing just how far your shop has come. Starting this build prior to painting, to today, having a separate shop space.
Turned my GL500 into an adventure bike, man with that uni link it's amazing, helped me figure out how to get an auxiliary fuel tank on it thanks man, I don't have any vision hahaha there's much life left in these old bikes and people will basically give the rust buckets away a lot!!
Absolutely beautiful bike, you're a true engineering Artist and mechanic. I ride a Honda cb 500s totally stock , it's 21 years old and I'm 65 years old. Great video.
Absolutely fabulous! I had a CX500, CX500 Custom and then a Silver Wing back in the day. I loved that engine - absolutely bullet-proof! Now in my older age, I'm thinking of downsizing to a 500ish ADV bike and this video literally made me lick my lips! You're an absolute master craftsman.
hi there, I am REZA. I'm from Iran and really enjoyed your work, that is great. I do love motorcycles, especially the heavy ones. this kind of motos are forebidden in my country and you have to ride them on special places not in the usual roads. I hope you happiness and wellness and success on the entire life. Keep up the good work brother.
Absolutely amazing build. And a fantastic time lapse video. Well done you. Had a CX BACK IN THE 90’s. I just love that engine. Thank you for the vid🙂👍🏍
I've been watching motorcycle content on RUclips for years and I cannot believe this is the first time I'm seeing your videos. Excellent content & building. Awesome bike man.
Wow. Just wow. You took the most gutless lemming-of-a-bike that Honda ever designed and made it rock-&-rolla ! I mean, I pretty much despise the CX500. It really was a gutless and milquetoast bike. And a CX500 Scrambler adventure bike is an answer to a question that the universe never asked. But you actually made it work ! And admirably so ! Your fabrication skills are nothing less than superb. Anyone who can take a CX500 and make it both a respectable bike and an interesting bike has a killer imagination and superior skills. Bravo. I can say with 100% ontological certitude that you have the only CX500 on the planet worth having. And that's a credit to your skills, not Honda's. And that Acewell speedo is killer. I have a 20-year-old Acewell on my 23-year-old Honda XR650R, and I love it. Acewell is a great company and more people should know about their instruments. Too bad you didn't have an '83 CX650 model on hand. That combined with an "improved" cam would be a real ripper. I'm surprised you didn't have the cam re-profiled because the CX bikes have very mild cams. And a right-side-up fork would be the bomb. But you could still do that, right ? And have you thought about fabricating a fuel tank to go in that huge void ? You could probably fit 2 gallons in there, allowing you to eliminate the Rotopax (if you want). Regardless of all the what-ifs, you really do have a killer bike there. You'd be crazy to ever sell it.
Well thank you so much! For a bit more story on the bike please check out this writeup on Bike Exif. There are various constraints I have to work with that are more explained in this article. www.bikeexif.com/honda-cx500-adventure-bike
Just love that CX500 Sir, such a fantastic design scrambler and why not, the power would be great, and NO chain to oil either ..................thankyou for your time
If you want to make your airline job quick and easy and not worry about pvc joints blowing apart use 3/4 PEX. It's rated the same psi and won't develop the nagging little leaks or have the joints blow apart. I've used it as airline for years and I've yet to have to replace any. Just keep about 3'-5' of metal pipe after the compressor so it doesn't get too hot. Your new shop is beautiful. I love watching it come along!
You sir are an extremely skillful and talented mechanic and engineer. I don't remember watching a video that long that I enjoyed as much as this one. Thanks for sharing and that is one great motorcycle.
I'm lost for words. Sat and watched this in one hit nine times out of ten wide eyed and opened mouth. You have an amazing talent and the finished machine is a thing of beauty. Absolutely fantastic mate, just incredible, you are a maverick genius who genuinely deserves the tag.. ♠️
Absolutely fantastic build! The attention to detail and overall quality look fantastic. Such a reliable power plant deserved to be offered straight from Honda in this configuration. You are a man of vision and skills. I not only want one, I need one!! Great job!!!
To me, this is a seriously nice motorcycle, which would appeal to a lot of riders. I`m too old now, but I hope someone at Honda was paying attention to this video. You did a wonderful job, and no motorcycle sounds better than a Guzzi.

That has to be a labor of love.
Yes it was a lot to say the least. I wanted to push my skills
It blows my mind that someone can have all these skill sets at your age. Having the tools is a really important thing but without that knowledge and experience, with a sprinkle of engineering mentality, they don't do anything. I wish I had the opportunity to do these things
Well thank you. It's all from practice that I can do this stuff. There are so many more skilled people than I as well.
Respekt für diese wunderbare Arbeit 👍!
Besten Gruß aus Deutschland.
Thank you!
One of the best builds I have seen. Amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
Just incredible! Love all the small touches that go into these builds.
Thank you! This one took many details to come together
You have a great fabricating mind. Not many people can Invision a project as complicated as this bike. Excellent results.
Thank you much!
Beautifully done BJ! Absolute inspiration, thanks for building, filming and sharing 🫶👏👏
Many thanks Jeron!
Thank you. Correct both ground clearance as well as tire selection were the reasons for the change.
I mean, his fabrication skills… Respect.
🙏🙏
Oh yeah, great bike build man. 👍🏻
Glad it brought some good memories back. Happy you enjoyed the video
This is not a motor build timelapse, it's art, I love it 😍😍😍😍
Haha thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Straight up. Way beyond well done.
@@tomupchurch4911 thank you!
Front fender? Ingenious man.
@tomupchurch4911 If you want to see more I detail ever aspect of the bike in the full playlist
Thank you!
A true work of art. What a beautiful bike is has become. Very purposeful. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
Just starting out this morning watching and it’s amazing just how far your shop has come. Starting this build prior to painting, to today, having a separate shop space.
It's wild to see!
Wow!! Awesome fabrication work , everything from A to Z
Thank you!
I took a CX500 for a test ride when they first came out. Super smooth and quiet, and handled really nice!
They are fun bikes for sure. I feel they can do anything reasonably well
Turned my GL500 into an adventure bike, man with that uni link it's amazing, helped me figure out how to get an auxiliary fuel tank on it thanks man, I don't have any vision hahaha there's much life left in these old bikes and people will basically give the rust buckets away a lot!!
That GL500 would be even better than this bike for sure. I'd love to do another using a GL650
Any late 70's to late 80's Honda is an engineering masterpiece. Great build!
Much appreciated!
soooo much knowledge, you must be very proud of yourself man - wow what a dude and what a wicked way to give the Honda a new life
Thank ya!
Absolutely beautiful bike, you're a true engineering Artist and mechanic.
I ride a Honda cb 500s totally stock , it's 21 years old and I'm 65 years old.
Great video.
Thanks so much!
That's what I love about old school Japanese motorcycles. You can customize and modify them in hundreds of ways.
Definitely true!
Well thank ya! I've been hearing great things about the new cb500x if that's the market you are after.
hi there, I am REZA.
Hello and glad you enjoyed!
I am not an off-road guy and I never liked those CX500s but you build had me fascinated from beginning to end. Very inspiring.
Thats good to hear. Thank ya
Daaaamn that thing purrs man. Good job on that one. Love that tone from those pipes too.
Absolutely amazing build. And a fantastic time lapse video. Well done you. Had a CX BACK IN THE 90’s. I just love that engine.
Thank you for the vid🙂👍🏍
Glad you enjoyed!
A great great great guy. It is like watching a creation, in a way. You have a good and interesting and happy life. Keep it that way.
Glad you enjoyed!
I've been watching motorcycle content on RUclips for years and I cannot believe this is the first time I'm seeing your videos. Excellent content & building. Awesome bike man.
Well I'm glad you found your way here now! Glad you enjoyed this one and I'm sure you will like many more!
Vermont's stunning wilderness and your amazing technique brought an old Honda ohv motorcycle back to life as a Scrambler Impressed
🌲🍀🔧🍀🌲
Im actually in Missouri but the plate was from a previous Vermont registration
As a backyard fabricator myself, I have never been so impressed!
The goldwing back tire.......YES!!!! great build
🤘🤘
Enjoyed this one. Thanks for recording your time. There are those who build, then those who build and record and share.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
@@BrickHouseBuilds I donated some to your PayPal
Wow.
Just love that CX500 Sir, such a fantastic design scrambler and why not, the power would be great, and NO chain to oil either ..................thankyou for your time
Glad you enjoyed! I feel on paper these have good potential to be capable bikes. I'm looking forward to seeing how this one does.
Amazing work. Thanks for taking the time to film and share it.
As a professional artist for over 30 years, I am honored to welcome you into our ranks!
@grumpyartist9416 thank ya 😊
Thanks for the tip!
This was a cool build and you have inspired me to find a CX and build my own scrambler
whole lot of work and love, no one would ever imagine the CX could go there
Glad to show they can!
What a skilled guy, and the bike is a beast, well done !!!! looks and sounds pure class
Thank you!
My first bike was an '81 custom. Really missing it after watching this badass build.
Well I appreciate it 🙏
Unbelievable transformation I take my hat off to you such a craftsman 👍🏻 and to think I had a 1982 CX 500 back in the day 😃
Thank you 🙏
You sir are an extremely skillful and talented mechanic and engineer. I don't remember watching a video that long that I enjoyed as much as this one. Thanks for sharing and that is one great motorcycle.
Well thank you thats very kind! It's tough to keep the videos shorter with so many details to focus on so I'm glad you enjoyed
Great project and awesome fabrication of accessories and mounts hats off to you sir you are a true Jedi. Long live the Republic
Haha thank ya much!
J'ai eu un CX 500 Custom à la fin des années 80 et c'était vraiment une belle moto avec un moteur exceptionnel en terme d'agrément et de solidité.
They are definitely good bikes
I'm lost for words. Sat and watched this in one hit nine times out of ten wide eyed and opened mouth. You have an amazing talent and the finished machine is a thing of beauty. Absolutely fantastic mate, just incredible, you are a maverick genius who genuinely deserves the tag.. ♠️
Thats extremely kind! Thanks so much and happy you enjoyed!
What a sick project. Cooler than 90% of bikes marketed as dual sport or ADV today.
I appreciate that 🤘
Absolutely fantastic build! The attention to detail and overall quality look fantastic. Such a reliable power plant deserved to be offered straight from Honda in this configuration. You are a man of vision and skills. I not only want one, I need one!! Great job!!!
Well thank you very much thats very kind!
That's some serious dedication and craftsmanship (on the bike, and the video.) Great job!
Thank you!
To me, this is a seriously nice motorcycle, which would appeal to a lot of riders. I`m too old now, but I hope someone at Honda was paying attention to this video. You did a wonderful job, and no motorcycle sounds better than a Guzzi.
Thank ya! Those 46works videos of his Guzzi builds definitely makes me want one
True artist with great imagination. It makes me wish I still had my old 1978 CX500 with reverse cone Hooker exhaust! Great music that flows well with your videos. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed! I actually have a video showing how I made this one and explaining that music flow if you are interested ruclips.net/video/un3bAtYL3Zs/видео.html
I’ve always liked the CX 500 mostly oh I see your exotic café bikes which I love. This was even more special who doesn’t love a scrambler
Scramblers are the MOST fun
