I know right? I'm not into old bikes but I'm into guy with knowledge and passion. You can tell. A friends 80 yr old father came over for some advice on how to build some custom cabinets, and I spent a couple of hours telling him how to do things, and he said to me "you love your work, I can tell by the way you talk about it...." (I'm a woodworker).
Im 80 yrs old and grew up with these machines. My first cycle was a 1947 Indian Cheif barn find. I would never think of starting that engine before fogging the cylinders and valve train for lube as well as the tranny primary chain and engine sprocket. Roll it over with the lifters exposed and checked for movement and settings engine timing verify the function of the distributer advance function. Fog top end prelube through that old stove pipe throttle full open. stove pipe. Make sure that old girl is turning over smoothly. No sticking valves or binding. Proof your spark. Give her a big hug ❤and wake her up gently.😂 Dandahermit🎉🎉
Glad you found a gem! It’s not uncommon for museum pieces to be altered/faked! A buddy spent $80,000 on a classic one owner GTO only to find out that it was prettied up for museum days! The motor was not original and had numbers restamped to appear numbers matching! It was a high mileage engine that was swapped in. The body had work done as well and under fluorescent light looked great but once in the sun revealed signs! Took him two years and $24000 in attorney fees to get his money back from the museum! He ended up keeping the car and settled for a 65,000 refund so he paid just under $40,000 for the car in the end and was able to get the numbers matching engine and transmission back! The museum started an investigation to find out how the car was certified and insured when donated but magically changed over 10 years on display! Turns out the mechanic employed by the museum was swapping parts out when he was supposed to be maintaining/ fixing leaks so the cars arnt leaving puddles! He was prosecuted and a search warrant recovered over $300,000 in stolen parts in his possession! Ended up costing the museum over half a million to settle other claims from previous sales!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm so glad that Matt is following his Father's dreams of keeping the museum going and restoring those old motorcycles and not to mention his knowledge of old Harleys and I'm sure his Dad is smiling down on him daily.
This gives me so many memories about 10 years ago I went on vacation to wheels through time. I watched Dale on TV growing up. When I went there I met Dale. He gave me a once in a life opportunity and let me work there for the week I was there. Definitely will never forget it
I will be honest, I was getting annoyed with the lowballing ( can cope with that but the comments and replies were pissing me off) but man, that was a fantastic act of humanity. Really refreshes my faith in people. Good work 👍👍❤️❤️
TO be completely honest with you, Sean. It doesn't matter what you paid for this bike. This bike has all the signs that it was loved throughout its life and actually ridden and enjoyed by its previous owner and not put up to be a showpiece and I would say that's more valuable than anything 100% original. The '37 Knuckle deserves to continue to be ridden and enjoyed regularly. Such a beautiful bike and those pipes sound amazing!
Rather than take the pessimistic view, I read this as "it doesn't matter what you paid" meaning he obviously can afford it and the value is there, so price aside he got an awesome bike that should be enjoyed rather than stuffed away in a garage collection of dust on motorcycle.. I must say, I agree, what a find and how awesome it must be to have the ability to add this to a collection of "ride it as much as you can and whenever you get the chance" motorcycles. So, @dilligafdude9434 I agree and well said.
Man, these videos are nothing short of heartwarming. I feel so happy for you dudes for getting, not only a beautiful rare bike, but also in such incredible condition.
I’m not an HD type of guy, but I love these types of videos showing the history and excitement around it. I’m just glad that you guys got it running and you’re going to enjoy instead of just mothballing it! Nothing worse than seeing cars or bikes just sit. They made them with passion for people to enjoy, so enjoy it!!!
The fact that Matt has dedicated his life to knowledge that most people don’t even know exist. What incredible guy. I was absolutely stunned at the amount of knowledge he could throw out like nothing. Visiting his museum is 100% on my bucket list.
I love that he gets so excited about his , not job , but his life , when he gets to work on any of the motorcycles or even open a pkg, so he can bring another piece of history back to life !
I have this exact motorcycle, it is a completely different animal after exhaust/air filter/ecu flash. Owned every brand and this Kawasaki is an absolute dream to ride fast!! The cruise control is incredible!! Especially for 52- year old guys that have blood flow in the hands issues.
I felt all the emotion in the pit of my stomach as you first fired it up. Then the same feeling as you went to ride it hoping the clutch and the gearbox was fine. I was truly happy for you Sean that the bike was great. Great video. I'm just coming down from the high as I type this message. Congrats mate.
I love Wheels Through Time's mission as a museum. The fact they keep everything in running condition, and actually run them a bit from time to time, is amazing. Way too much stuff is 'display model for reference only' these days.
so cool. I could listen to Matt all day long. His knowledge and expertise is crazy. Sorry that it's not original paint, but the fact that everything on the bike is original is incredible. Awesome purchase man!
I feel so bad knowing I’ve lived 30 minutes from this incredible museum and never have been to it. I’m going to check it out and show my support. It’s so awesome seeing someone so passionate and knowledgeable about motorcycles. Thank you so much for introducing me.

Wow, memories, when I heard the bike run. Before and after timing adjustment that is. I had a memories come to me for the 1st time in my 45 ish years of my 53. The first father I remember had an old knuckle head in the mid 70s. I remember hearing it run exactly the same as the before and after timing adjustment. I swear I think I was in a playpen in the front yard. I also remember him taking up some muscles or ligaments in his leg from the same bike backfiring? Something about the kick starter kicking back? I never became a motorcycle guy. Thank you very much for that memory. I'm a little emotional as I write this. The eyes of youth painted Mike Sr. in a not so flattering light. I now know he loved all 3 of us boys very much. I, I'm sad that I didn't see that till I was almost out of high school. He's been gone years now but the warmth and happiness I felt in that moment has given me a memory that will no longer be forgotten. I'm sure the bike, as all investments, has moved on. However, one day I would like to meet you and shake your hand in gratitude. I was raised to believe that shaking a man's hand was one of the most respectful things you can do. Maybe even get my 2 brothers to take the trip with me.
Sean, I appreciate your consistency with including Scripture in all of your videos in a meaningful way. I was so shocked when I found someone on the internet so similar to me who is a believer and also loves bikes and has a beard. PTL!
He was right those pipes sounded incredible super nice , love that sound ! I wish I can heard that sound in person. I’m so happy that you get to have that bike. I really got emotional with that sound! I got in to bike since I was a kid , my dad bought his first harley in 1974 . I have a pic me sitting on the bike when he bought it , I was 7 years old.
This video truly shows WHY WE LOVE HARLEY DAVIDSON and what owning one does for a person. Sean you looked like a kid given the keys to a candy store. This was truly a gift to watch. Some oil and a few twists and turns and she is on the road. That is truly inspiring for the guy who asks "Is a vintage Harley worth the investment?" Just for the Fun-Factor ALONE, the answer is a definite YES. Thank you for sharing this. For a moment i could smell the exhaust gravel and gasoline in my sinuses. Awesome video!!!
That grin on Shawn’s face as he pulled away on it said it all! A sudden drop to a mental age of 12 years old and the overpowering need to immediately go outside and play with his new toy. It won’t take him long to start giving her the revs she needs. Totally agree with Matt’s philosophy that these thing are there to be ridden. These ‘Sport’ bikes do need to be worked harder to get the best out of them, That’ll be why Matt gravel blasted the camera guy as he knew the bike could take it!
the amount of respect between Matt and Sean is so lovely to watch. when Sean offered Matt a bite of his sandwich Matt didnt hesitate to sink his teeth in, even eating from the same bit Sean had just bit from.
"can I ride it?" he asks as he already is reaching out. He was not going to accept being denied 🤣Amazing bike and awesome you have friends like that who know their stuff!
I'm glad I watched the whole thing and it went down the way it did. At first I thought a guy is showing off his HD. Then you went and did something awesome. As soon as you quoted our lord I thought that you are doing right by him and spreading his words. Good is not hate and hate is not good. I'm a guy who feels like he has a hand in the lives of many people. I think he blessed you and guided you. The day you had was not as rare 50 years ago when I started riding but it sure is now. Good luck and of course GOD bless you.
Not a bike guy(yet this video came across my feed, so I watched it in its entirety), but I held my breath when you went to start that amazing piece of history, and gave a quiet fist pump when it came to life. I'm happy to see this bike in your hands because you'll respect it and enjoy it, in equal parts. Congrats on the purchase. Very cool video.
I don’t know anything about bikes, and even though I’ve watched a number of your videos breaking down everything, I still find these evaluation videos absolutely fascinating.
I know Wheels Through Time is only about 30 mins from Kodak, TN. i hope that the drive to visit Matt is a quick one. I LOVE seeing Matt/Wheels crew in BnB videos and vice versa.
Loved the sandwich in the tool box. Great suprise! This video was excellent and it was so cool to hear the '37 kick over. The sound of the pipes was music to my ears.
Was at the museum weekend before auction and pointed to that cycle to reference the knuckle head to the gal. We had a great ride down to see the cycles great to see some made it to RUclips
These guys look like they are very cool to hang with down to earth the way they were laughing and picking on each other about the oil reminds me of my family when we were around motorcycles.
Really enjoyed the video Matt knows so much about these bikes could listen to him talk all day. Have a goodnight and stay safe Jimmy from North Attleboro Massachusetts
Woooow!!! Congratulations Sean!! This was something you deserved! And im so happy for you! Thank you for that verse also. Its one of the parts i really enjoy. Much love and blessings from Norway.
My Man Matt !! I just love the knowledge one acquires when you have the passion.. and He has that passion for what he does !! Ans smile on Sean's face when bike started is priceless !!
So, basically like anything old, it is technically crap because later versions made things much better, but this is valuable because of the scarcity and nostalgia. Nobody rides this bike and says "this was the best and most comfortable ride of my life!", people ride it for the "Experience", even if their legs are still vibrating and their ears hurt 20 minutes after the ride is done.
What can I say, I'm so glad this worked out for you, the affirmation that she's about as genuine and original as you can really ask for, from the master himself. A bust on the paint but I'll bet you had a pretty good idea going into it, that this was the case. But knowing the rest is basically original or period must be a great relief!
I about choked when he said he didn't know if it would start. WAIT, WHAT? Back up the truck. He paid $100,000 and didn't even know if it would start? Yikes, I was having some serious doubts about the wisdom of this purchase. Matt is a living encyclopedia of Harley info. IMPRESSIVE. As he went over the bike and kept finding items that were ONE YEAR ONLY I had a feeling it would turn out well. Then when the bike started, I felt some goosebumps crawling up my back. I thought the paint looked a bit too nice to be original but I missed hearing if it was at least original color. I would be tempted to polish that paint down so it was not so thick. That is a rolling piece of history.
Always look forward to Bikes and Beards and The Bearded Mechanic releasing videos about the same time on Friday, let’s me know the weekend is here and it’s time to ride!!
I love it when worlds collide. Matt is a very special human with knowledge about 100 year old motorcycles. And Sean is a simple moron with money. What a team.
He is definitely not a moron. He has built his own fortune. He didn't inherit it. He earned it. You don't do that by being a moron. He is also smart enough to know when he does need an expert.
This is one of the coolest videos you’ve ever done. The amount of knowledge from Matt and the history of that bike is beyond cool bro. Beyond cool. Congratulations
In 1971, a friend offered me a 47 Knuckle for $700. I bought a Honda……hmmmmm…….🤔. After all these years and dozens of bikes, I’m riding an original 1986 Heritage Softtail Classic. Not quite the same, but at 70, I’m still “in the wind”. 👍🏻😎
What a great video. And Matt is just the man, his knowledge is a thing to see. You've got a great bike there. PS: Matt loved that paint-gauge, you could see that. I'd have given it to him...in return for him finding a couple of those original gems for the saddlebag mounts. 🙂
Now I have to correct myself. Sean, generous soul that he is, gave the paint gauge to Matt. Massive respect, Sean lives by what he believes. I shouldn't be surprised, I've seen him do it often enough, buying gas for strangers, the kid he gave the moped to...such positive, life-affirming stuff. Apart from the cool motorcycles, that's why I'll always stay subscribed to Sean's channel.
If it was original paint he would be very nervous about scuffing or scratching the paint, now he will still be very cautious but not as nervous and may enjoy riding it a bit more.
The bike might 'only' be worth $100,000 but owning it and riding it is priceless. That is the stuff dreams are made of. Chase your dreams for they are endless. Oh to be able to bottle Matt's knowledge for future generations!
Just as with his father I could listen to Matt talk for a ridiculous amount of time about motorcycles. Edit- love that he didn't hesitate about taking a bite of that brisket sandwich. Hell yeah.
Wheels through time is a museum for real motorcycle lovers. They treat them like the working machines they are instead of judt decoration like other museums. Like the one that 37 nuckle head was bought from, they treated them as dead things instead of living vehicles.
The amount of Harley knowledge Matt possesses is mind boggling. 👏👏
I know right? I'm not into old bikes but I'm into guy with knowledge and passion. You can tell.

He learned all that from working with his dad, Dale.
He's a Harley genius

What is fogging the cylinders?
I'm guessing there were steps in the startup that didn't make the video edit to keep it more interesting and to the point of getting it running.
@@eleithias putting a mist of oil down the cylinder bores.
I love that Matt jumped on a $100,000 bike and immediately slung gravel everywhere! That dude is awesome.
Shawn was very gentle, and Matt "100k bike goes brrrr" xD
haha I noticed that too...craig, baby baby baby matt...vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm let er rip tater chip!

Very cool of Matt to participate in these videos. The viewers appreciate him sharing his knowledge of these historic bikes.

WHUT!?!?!? This story sounds insane.
When is the movie?
That's crazy man who even does that like damn. Crazy story
If not a movie then a RUclips documentary waiting to happen.

“Can I ride it?” That reminds me of my childhood when every kid in the neighborhood had a mini bike. 3 of us had Honda 50’s…
It warms my soul to see this relic pulled out of limbo and ridden how it’s supposed to be ridden
You can't imagine how good it is to watch both You guys working on some bikes - love both your channels, best wishes from Poland!
The collabs with you 2 is amazing. Can't get enough! Amazing content as always!
watching this dude go over this bike was awesome , so cool to hear all the little facts about the parts
The amount of times I caught myself smiling during this video was hilarious. Very happy for you man, it’s such a beautiful bike ❤
There's ONE guy who knows all the (historical) in and outs of Harley, you surely came to the right place/museum.
Love it when someone with the knowledge and experience Matt has, finds a new tool that just blows his mind. Like a kid in a candy store... 😅
What can I say, I'm so glad this worked out for you, the affirmation that she's about as genuine and original as you can really ask for, from the master himself. A bust on the paint but I'll bet you had a pretty good idea going into it, that this was the case. But knowing the rest is basically original or period must be a great relief!
I am a dirt bike guy but this episode was unreal. The knowledge on these old bikes was off the charts. Excellent video.
I’m not big on bikes, but hearing it fire up for the first time made me smile ear to ear!
Love you Shawn keep up the good work your work is amazing and i really appreciate you as a host.!
Matt's the master and Sean's the apprentice that's what makes these episodes great to watch
Matt is the biggest bike nerd and I am here for it! Amazing dude
Always look forward to Bikes and Beards and The Bearded Mechanic releasing videos about the same time on Friday, let’s me know the weekend is here and it’s time to ride!!
yeah it is !!!!!!!!
I know a guy in the small town I live in that has been riding an original 37 since 1990 something, such a beautiful bike.
I love it when worlds collide. Matt is a very special human with knowledge about 100 year old motorcycles. And Sean is a simple moron with money. What a team.
He is definitely not a moron. He has built his own fortune. He didn't inherit it. He earned it. You don't do that by being a moron. He is also smart enough to know when he does need an expert.
lol
@@spartanx169x Guy Humor, blue collar, red neck, let'er rip humor.
8:01i love how you just sat there ,like very innocent child admiring and listening to what the expert guy says😂🥰
This is one of the coolest videos you’ve ever done. The amount of knowledge from Matt and the history of that bike is beyond cool bro. Beyond cool. Congratulations
The thing about a less than perfect bike is that it's a bike to ride and enjoy. A scratch in the paint is not the end of the world.
It made me smile when that bike started as I’m sure it did most viewers.
I love the camera men in matching flannel uniforms. Gives it a very Footlocker feel. Great video! I love that guys shop.
Love you dude! Keep doing good work and sharing words of wisdom! Also can’t wait to meet you.
I met Matt back in August and immediately liked the guy. What a true genuine dude!
If it was original paint he would be very nervous about scuffing or scratching the paint, now he will still be very cautious but not as nervous and may enjoy riding it a bit more.
Its a great bike Sean so happy for you. A 37 is the hey-day of motorcycling and in my mind it doesn't get better. Hats off to ya man.
"I paid more for this than my first house" Damn I wish I could find a family home for less than 100k
FYI: A few months ago, my son sold his house for under 100K in Huron, South Dakota.
Pittsburgh pa and around the suburbs you can find that all day long.
I am so happy for you Sean and that you got it running that bike is a true classic. I would hold on to that one forever... God bless you brother
For that price Steve McQueen better have owned it.
He didn’t ride junk.
I can't get enough of these videos! Thanks!
Glad you like them!
I love these videos! I love when Shawn colabs with WTT%
The bike might 'only' be worth $100,000 but owning it and riding it is priceless. That is the stuff dreams are made of. Chase your dreams for they are endless. Oh to be able to bottle Matt's knowledge for future generations!
Two minutes in I feel like im watching Pawn Stars 😂
This is so much more watchable without the quotes from your favourite comic book, keep up the good work!
Just as with his father I could listen to Matt talk for a ridiculous amount of time about motorcycles. Edit- love that he didn't hesitate about taking a bite of that brisket sandwich. Hell yeah.
It’s a brisket sandwich! How could anyone. Hesitate there delicious
@@BikesandBeards for sure. As a Texan I completely understand. Love the channel.
Wheels through time is a museum for real motorcycle lovers. They treat them like the working machines they are instead of judt decoration like other museums. Like the one that 37 nuckle head was bought from, they treated them as dead things instead of living vehicles.
