I also enjoy real historical context, not only a gameplay. When 90% of other guys can offer only a gameplay.

What a fantastic channel, been binging your podcast content. Keep up the amazing work, you are going to get big. The historical and strategy video game part of youtube is very much the same, so you can get a lot of people to watch your podcasts through this. You deserve everything you get.

20:04 not sure about Pharaoh, but there is an “all charge” command in previous titles, if you group your front line and then control right click the center of the enemy line each unit tries to match up and engage an enemy in front of them.

What book(s) would you suggest for an indepth story of Mesopotamia, specially discussing the different ethnic groups/cultures taking over, etc, ideally chronologically ?

Honestly, there isn't a single good overview that goes into real depth. Closest you can get is Cambridge Ancient History, particularly vol 2 pt 1-2 and vol 3 pt 1-2. Those books are dated, massive, and expensive, but if you can find them they are fantastic baseline resources. Other than that, the broad overviews like Blackwell Companion to Assyria and related books in that series are good but also dry. Unfortunately, getting a deep sense of the field involves getting into the academic literature, archeology and the ancient texts, which is a big part of why I go into so much depth on the Oldest Stories podcast. This stuff just isn't as accessible as it should be.

What would the world have done without Victorian Academia?!
As a Dublin trinity college man, even I have to credit the English with something good!
Apparently preserving the classics is that something.
Ironically, given their history in Ireland. . .
Text book's are both expensive and hard to find but I'm assuming we're lucky to have anything at all.

Hey, usually when creators get early access embargos drop at 3pm on the day they are lifted, and another content creator (I forget who) said the embargo dropped today. Love to see this video and the style of content and I could be wrong about the embargo thing with pharaoh but thought I should say. Love the video!

I am unsure on the archeology but I feel like Babylonia is looking a bit sparse in terms of regions. Would have expected Uruk to be its own capital province with both it and Babylon having lesser cities/towns represented nearby. it looks a bit sparse in game.

While I would like more in Mesopotamia, as a mesopotamia fan, the truth is that by the end of the late bronze age, a lot of the great metropolises of the south have gone into terminal decline. It is actually quite period accurate to have it starting to feel a bit sparse. The great southern city of the era very much was Babylon, and the rest were decidedly less.

You may not have unit by unit control historically, but as I understand it we are playing as the guiding spirit of a faction, and thus performing the roles of the captains as well, not just the king or general. Hence why I have no qualms about pausing to issue orders and survey the field on single player.
This may be a suggestion for future titles though - to have an option of a historically realistic player army and enemy army AI (cause you know the AI be micro-ing too lol....). I know some TW titles (original Rome?) have where you can surrender your troops' control to AI, or even just a portion of them. Perhaps it could be something more akin to Mount and Blade army control, or with even less control than that, simply using your general's unit to try to bring the best outcome in a battle that is otherwise out of your hands once started. Maybe with presets as for the unit by unit strategy that are chosen before battle. Or perhaps the unit types have their own strategies. Or perhaps Assyrian archers have different strategies from Babylonian archers, or perhaps an elite crossover "specialist" type unit has it's own strategy, all beyond your control????
This would then allow you to bask in the glory of the POV of the general/king, which I am never able to do enough save for occasionally enjoying replays. It could also increase the cruciality of using generals' abilities such as "rally", "second wind", "inspire", etc etc...
Slightly off topic, but when considering the historical lack of in battle control you demonstrate here, and that I am proposing as an option/mode for a future title or update - I actually think we should be able to fine tune our starting position a little better, as trying to select the best angle of attack to capitalize on terrain is not the easiest just using the main campaign map. Maybe an in-between map? That could help offset the ensuing lack of control after deployment and the commencement of battle.

Great introduction, but in the future you may want to disable the day-night cycle for the campaign map. Depending on the screen settings and the device you are looking at, it may be difficult to see anything.

why did they put Elam as a minor playable if no one was going to play them, everybody is giving their attention to de the Greeks, the babilonians, the assiryans, even the lullubis are getting some attention, but not Elam, this has turned personal for me already, because why would you make something that no one will ever use, it's a waste of time and resources that could have been spent into something else
