Can we just take a moment to appreciate technology. You essentially have a washer drum concept being used in another application. It's just amazing how tools and machines can cross discipline.
And what about the zillion uses for rice I mean milk flour, bread, side dish, main dish. How people figured out how to make it several times but different always amazes me.
Look up simple machines. A concept that should have come up in school. Screws are essentially an axel with a spiral ramp wrapped around the side. The same ramp a stunt person would use to jump something. Simple machines helps explain all of those similarities. That washer drum is like it is to do exactly the same thing to your clothing as it is doing to the rice starch.
At 7:25 I was so impressed by how easily and quickly they were churning out those pieces of mochi… they make it look easy but anyone that has worked with mochi knows how difficult it can be.
i’d be super interested to try this and compare it to japanese mochi! it looks kind of different in consistency than what i’ve had in jp and like it would have a lovely texture
The food chemistry of Mochi is amazing. How did ancient peoples figure out that you could find a rice varietal that has a stretchy quality to it? I am so glad they did. What a great mouth feel it is.
By accident. Beer was also discovered by accident when people forgot wheat in a tub and it fermented. Given the millions of rice users in that culture, they stumbled on mochi by playing around with rice and getting creative once a stretchy quality was observed in some variety. Most things are discovered by accident by virtue of just how many people there are doing all kinds of things. Someone finds out and tells everybody else.
Lol ur English is great keep it up btw ur english is probably better than most people who have English as their first language cause u put periods , commas ect .
I was confused when they had the flat mochi and were boxing it because I had never seen mochi sold without some sort of filling before. Simple red bean filled ones are amazing but sometimes my favorite asian market has various other coated flavors like mugwort and black bean that are also delicious. Mochi is so versatile and I am insanely jealous of all the countries that get to enjoy it more often.
It's actually super easy to make. And super cheap. But eating too much of it can be bad for you, like candy. Mix glutinous rice flour with sugar and water. Grease some plastic wrap and place that in a bamboo steamer tray. Fill with the glutinous rice flour. Steam. Then cut and shape into balls and fill/coat with flavors. (I like coating it with peanut sugar.) You have to work fast, as the mochi won't be as easy to work with once it's cooled.
This is so not how my Taiwanese mother-in-law taught me to make mochi. She made glutinous rice in a pressure cooker, let it almost cool, added some sugar while mixing it up. Finally, we beat the everloving snot out of the mixture with a wooden rolling pin. It was the best mochi I’ve ever eaten. The only drawback was I was tired, sweaty and in need of a nap when we were done. That rice puts up one heck of a fight.
Ragam Manfaat You can do the simplest method at home: buy some rice and cook it with a spoon or any device that can crush the rice until there are a few particles left, then put a little oil in another container and place the crushed rice in another. One container is finished. You can mix it with a little sugar and other seasonings or add some salt. If the rice you use is Penglai rice, the viscosity will be better and it will be more delicious. But if you can’t buy Penglai rice, general rice is also available. During the pressing process, it will be very difficult to press until half of the particles are left. You can use a mixer but be careful that it will stick to the mixing spoon.
Who thought of doing all of this to rice? France and Italy get all the praise for their food, but Asian people are the most creative with food. Having lived in France, I can't really remember anything that I ate that I have to have again. Italy did leave some fond food memories, but Japan, OMFG! the food there was stupid, in the best possible way, just wow. That said, no wonder Mochi covered ice cream is expensive, this is a lot of work. Much respect for the ingenuity and the hard work.
