I saw The Gathering live in 2007, when they recorded the A Noise Severe DVD. I don't know how, but the rumour that Anneke was leaving was going around already, so when this song came it was felt throughout the arena as a goodbye and we sang our hearts out to let Anneke know that her music would stay forever. By far the best concert I've been to in my life!
Nightwish, Epica, Gathering, Within Temptation, Delain... they tell stories that grab you by the throat... we are not known for being very emotional people in The Northwest of Europe until we start making music...
This is the strongest, most relatable reaction video on a TG song I've enjoyed so far. I feel your responses in almost exactly the same manner and I so much appreciate it that it makes me play this again every now and then. Thanks Olly! And thanks a lot for giving TG and Anneke the attention they do justifiably deserve. Now I just wondered if you would consider to create a reaction vid on TG's Opus Magnum (in my view): the full 'A Noise Severe' concert recorded in Santiago 2017. I'm so curious ...
Anneke kills it. I love the gathering. Nightime Birds is my favourite album. And you still haven't seen Anneke's work with Devin Townsend. Some magic when those two are on stage.
Super album!! Love Third chance also, recently i had to deal panic attacks, and when i listened to this song again I felt so comforted somehow. "And what i really hate, is that panic that stops me from breathing".
@@mjoezic3198 Am the same way I've been dealing with panic attacks for a few year's. This music and especially harp and Celtic music they have on RUclips has help me tremendously . 👍 Good luck me friend
This was their 25th anniversary concert...all of their previous singers were present (and they all joined Anneke on stage for the last part of this song in case you were wondering who all those other people were). It was magical. By the way, Anneke had already left the band many years before to do her solo career. PS...the song is about Mozart. Cheers!
I'm not hugely familiar with The Gathering (yet), though I'm familiar with Anneke's amazing vocals through her work with Devin Townsend. Just a few weeks ago I caught her live (solo) opening for Delain, doing a bunch of covers from all across the musical spectrum. She was utterly amazing - had a great rapport with the audience, she was funny and engaging, and her voice was so powerful and crystal clear. It was a beautiful set. So glad I got a chance to see her.
I recommend listening to all the albums in full and in order, their evolution is so interesting and awesome! Enjoy, the gethering with anneke was so special
I saw her four times on that tour :) -- I agree, she's very funny and lively, very positive, even when there were a couple glitches a couple times with her guitar. I just tried to soak in her voice as much as I could.
her amazing vocals on top of this music is just mesmerizing. Another good one from them is Strange Machine. Also you can see her with Devon Townsend Project in songs like Grace from the Retinal Circus. Thank you for reacting to this great song and band.
I had to watch this one again. I love Anneke...her voice soothes my weary soul when I need it. I still listen to How To Measure A Planet regularly (along with a couple others). I wish she was more well-known and more recognized for her influence on all the female fronted metal bands that seem to be everywhere these days. If it wasn't for Anneke, we may never have heard Floor doing metal and fronting Nightwish. I still get emotional when Anneke hits those high notes, even when her voice cracks a bit at times....it just makes it more emotional IMO. Cheers!
@@ollytherock7324 Hi Olly, a bit late reaction but nevertheless. About emotion: I know Streisand songs since my mom played them when I was a little boy. Never had any emotional response to her songs. There was a big influence of new wave and progressive rock in their sound... Nightwish took some of these elements... Anneke was just a 17 year old working behind the cash register of an album store called Elpee... She is now in her 40s but I still love her as an inspiration...
Travel is trully a spiritual experience, even though the best live performance of it was in Amsterdam-Paradiso just before she left the band. This is from the 25year reunion, and even though Anneke follows a solo road since 2007, she gave trully emotional performances to the songs she mostly wrote the lyrics for. They are still a part of her, however different her new ones are. The Gathering will never be the same without her.

Incredible song, thanks! More please! Should listening to their older tracks more i think. I discovered this band after the departure of Anneke, seems i missed out on a lot of good stuff. One really great song from the first album i heard from them was Pale Traces with Marcela Bovio as guest singer: ruclips.net/video/vcVSt1ngkj0/видео.html
Anneke Van Giersbergen w/ Residentie Orkest - Travel - Den Haag, Netherlands 5/19/18 You should listen too this version , reaction not necessary .
You forgot hypnotic...
She is amazing! With her own band but also as quest for others. I especially like her with Amorphis. Check "Her alone" live version ruclips.net/video/sufeGxjCuEg/видео.html and Amongst Stars ruclips.net/video/Jg2VqUTNjsw/видео.html I did not yet check if you have done any Amorphis videos, but they are another great Finnish metal band
